  1. Right on! I can see them recycling them there and I am happy to see these again. I wonder how they will merge Hollywood Die In with the pumpkins. As always, scarezone construction amps up after RTU. Does anyone know when that is this year?

    Same area as last year.

    These pictures are getting me really excited. I can't believe how close we are.

  2. Well earlier tonight I posted some of my thoughts on houses and scarezones on CSW so I will do so here too;

    Houses

    Hey all,

    Yeah, I like to make some early picks and see how it all comes to fruition. For

    me my personal pre- event house favs are;

    Wolfman- What is promising to be a vast soundstage house with outdoor forest

    areas is definitly toward to top for me. I think the fact that I have not seen a

    werewolf house is one of my main reasons and that now I hear that Uni is working

    with Rick Baker on the make-up only gets me more excited. This will be a teaser

    for the movie and I am hearing nothing but good early word. Should be a great

    house this year.

    Leave it to Cleaver- First and formost the fun factor, this

    one has me salivating. The 50's feel, the cannibalism and cheesy funny feel.

    Should be gruesome, gory and a tad creepy too. Those masks have that quality.

    Hopefully the acting will be over the top ala PS and we will have a varying

    exerience each and every time through.

    Dracula- I am hoping that this will ring Bram Stoker/ Coppala Dracula as I feel

    that aside from Nosferatu is the creepiest and sacriest of all the Dracula

    movies. I really liked the gothic tones of Castle Vampyr in 2004 and hope that

    this one is similar but takes it to new levels of darkness and features

    aggressive scareacting and some cool make up. Keep it gothic, keep it scary and

    dark in tone. That is all I ask.

    Houses that I am feeling might be on the bottom of the list;

    The Spawning- I hope to get a dark sewer setting and I don't know how they will

    pull it off. The B movie feel might ruin it too. It was funny in Creatures last

    year and fitting, but I just get a "throw in" house feel here. The creatures

    here sound kinda goofy too and I hope the costumes wont be too bad.I obviously

    want it to kick ass but I doubt it.

    SAW- What I have seen thus far looks promising, but I think that we may have

    another sub par house in the Jaws Queue. I like what it may offer. An industrial

    setting with a voice over that Tobin Bell has been called in to voice just for

    HHN, all the familiar traps and scenes of carnage from the SAW films and tons of

    gore and blood. Sounds good, but I feel that many will be let down as it could

    be scene after scene of torture ala Run; Hostile Territory and not have any

    level of suspense to make it work. I was so let down with the Reflections of

    Fear house last year and I hope we don't get another crappy Jaws Queque house. I

    really don't like that area in the park either as it is tough with B&T and the

    lines are out of control. Overall I just get a bad feeling about this one.

    Some other feeling about the houses;

    Frankenstein- I don't know what to think of this one. I have never thought that

    the subject matter is scary. It is tragic and the story is great, but not scary

    at all. I respect that Franky is an important

    classic monster and given the theme this year I feel it should have it's place

    along side Dracula and Wolfman. I think that it should be a spectical house and

    hopefully the art direction does a killer job to make me want to visit this on

    again and again. I am hearing Roddy hyping the Bride in this one so that should

    be interesting.

    Silver Screams- I hope that there are more movies represented here then what I

    have heard. The Phantom of the Opera (another Uni classic) is not thrilling me,

    but I think it could be cool, Shaun of the Dead is definitly one of my favs so I

    expect it to be fun and I always love zombies, My Bloody Valentine is crap in my

    opinion and it is sad to see them use it here. There are so many other films

    that they could have chosen and I just hope that it as least comes off

    aggressive and threatening. Hopefully we see some surprises. I heard that there

    is a Drag Me To Hell homage in this one so there is hope. The facade of this one

    looks awesome and the fact that the house of the year 08 Scary Tales 3 was in

    this location have me mildly excited.

    Chucky- I have warmed up to this one a bit, but overall the whole Child's Play

    world does nothing for me. Chucky is not scary or funny or anything to me. In

    fact I think that he gives horror films a bad name. The general public think of

    horror films as a genre to not take seriously and here you go with a

    wisecracking doll running around killing people while spouting one liners. Dumb.

    However, for this event if done right, it could be a fun house. I expect alot of

    crazy evil toy ideas here and that sounds cool! Roddy had something to say about

    a barrel of monkeys the other day of Fango and it got me thinking. We could be

    in for sleeper house here if it is done right.

    Well there are my usual long ass pre-event thoughts for the houses this year.

    Cheers!!!

    &

    Scarezones

    Most anticipated;

    Hollywood Die In- I really hope the magic that transpired last year in this area

    will once again be brought to life here. I like the area and the thought of

    horror films literally coming out of a drive in screen and stalking you is grand

    for any horror film fan. I hope to see some surprises as I am hearing Psycho,

    The Strangers, Drag Me to Hell, amongst others but overall I think this could be

    really fun. Any word on if they are using the area where the pumpkin were last

    year? Just a cool idea in general for this zone and the fact that real cars will

    be brought out with speakers and a torn screen promise this one will have

    potential.

    War of the Living Dead- I love the premise of undead Nazi solders coming at you

    in a tight area like Shrek ally. Hopefully the make up and props will live up to

    my imagination and the acting will be aggressive and threatening. I hope all the

    best for this zone. Any wolves cast in this zone?

    Least anticipated;

    Cirque Du Freak- Sorry to all of the Wolfers that have been cast here. I mean no

    disrespect, but I really don't like the Kidzone area for a SZ. You have 2 queue

    lines there and it turns out to be a big cluster f*** there. Not to mention the

    theming. I just feel that it does little to HHN to have a SZ based on a teen

    book/ movie. I hope I am wrong as I am hoping to see plenty of cool freaks and

    creatures of the night, but I really think this will fall flat. Hopefully,

    Jesse, Brooke and Kevin can save it and at least make it an area I want to stay

    in. I don't expect much though.

    Lights Camera Haction!- I think that this is a fun idea and people love the

    staple of chainsaws at HHN, but I just think that this one will be a bit silly.

    I love the people in this area and know that it will be entertaining to watch

    them chase and scare the crap out of the guests but overall it will not do alot

    for me personnally. I guess this is a bit of a mixed bag for me. We shall see.

    Good filming ops here I am sure.

    Thoughts on other Scarezones;

    Containment- From what I see this one is a mix of The Mist and Toxic City with a

    heavy military feel and green lighting, heavy fog and eerie music no doubt. I

    hope for some music from Planet Terror as it is quite over the top and cheesy.

    Very fitting here. I really wonder how the acting will be portrayed here. I hope

    for a fun with some freaky people coming after you and stuff, melting or just

    enraged by the toxic cloud. Sounds kinds cool!

    City of Cannibals- I have no idea what to think with this one. I have seen some

    pics of buses and overturned cars in New York and this fits, but the pic that is

    on the HHN site with the creature like thing makes me think this one is going to

    be alot different than I expect. I love this area for scarezones and hope this

    one rocks!

    All right! There ya go. Should be interesting to see how it all turns out.

  3. Oct. 18, 21, 22, 23, 25, 28,29,31

    S/ D/ M

    FYI, Guys I think that most of you know I am a CSW guy and wear my CSW colors proudly. No dis intended at all for this board as I think MZ is doing some awesome stuff over here and I enjoy this group a lot, but I will be pretty much following all CSW meets and if it falls during the same time period and place as HNN meets all the better. I will be hanging out with Radka and family, Jim and Judy, Justin and Phyllis, Dusty, Chris and all of the others down that time of the run as well as many Otown HHN nuts such as George. Hope to see you all there.

    Cheers!!!

  4. I'm into seeing LT come back, knowing that I am going to be at HHN the last 2 weeks, it's going to be fun to be there for the last night this year!

    I agree Mike. I was a bit annoyed last year even though I thought that it was a cool idea. It just seemed like something that I would not be into during a week long trip. Now, given the fact that I wil be at 8 nights of HHN this year I may change my tune. It might be kinda cool. I know we will be doing all of this hanging out together so we can do some LT stuff in a group with Justin, Jim, Dusty, Rachel and everyone else.

  5. I got this from Bloody Disgusting;

    Harry Warden To Stalk Universal Horror Nights

    Friday, August 21, 2009

    In the most bone-headed decision of the year (which is saying quite a lot), Lionsgate has decided not to make a sequel to the super-fun, super-gory, and super-SUCCESSFUL My Bloody Valentine 3D, by more or less claiming the success of the first one was a fluke (enjoy Saw MCMVXIII though!). But at least Harry Warden isn't COMPLETELY dead - Universal just announced that an MBV-themed maze will be a part of this year's completely revamped Horror Nights, which also includes new mazes populated by Jigsaw and Michael Myers. I still hold out hope for "Dr. Giggles Hospital Of Horror", personally. Check after the break for more details!

    LIONSGATE® AND UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOODSM PRESENT HEART-STOPPING ALL-NEW “MY BLOODY VALENTINE” MAZE FOR

    2009 HALLOWEEEN HORROR NIGHTS

    Inspired by Lionsgate’s 2009 theatrical re-make, My Bloody Valentine 3-D, the Genre Film Favorite Joins “Rogues Gallery” of New Attractions for Annual Halloween Event, Beginning October 2

    Universal City, CA, August 21, 2009- “My Bloody Valentine: Be Mine 4 Ever” an all-new “live” multi-sensory horror experience, will be a standout attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood’sSM “Halloween Horror Nights” event beginning its 16-night run on October 2, per an agreement between the theme park and Lionsgate®, the leading next generation studio.

    The attraction is based upon the 2009 theatrical re-make of the original 1981 Canadian slasher classic, which was released by Lionsgate to great box-office success earlier this year and is now available on DVD and Blu-ray. Widely considered “the ultimate slasher film” by horror aficionados, the all-new Universal Studios Hollywood maze will bring to life the terrible events that take place in the town of Harmony, which is crippled by a series of horrific murders. “My Bloody Valentine: Be Mine 4 Ever,” will recreate the film’s bloody massacres in disturbingly realistic scenes. This “Halloween Horror Nights” experience will assault the guest through the sense of sight, sound, smell and touch. Guests entering the maze will smell the dank, stale air of the film’s mineshaft, will feel the spray of spattering blood and will pass closely through scenes of unrelenting carnage. It will be the most lifelike representation of film horror ever created for a Halloween maze attraction.

    The entire "Halloween Horror Nights" event at Universal Studios Hollywood has been re-designed for 2009. “Halloween Horror Nights” will feature four all-new mazes, a new “Terror Tram” backlot studio experience as well as terrifying new “Scare Zones.” New attractions will include a “live” maze experience based on the “Saw” film franchise, per an agreement among Universal Studios Theme Parks, Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures. The “Rocky Horror Picture Show: A Tribute” will also join the “Halloween Horror Nights” line-up in a live stage presentation of this classically edgy movie.

    Updates on “Halloween Horror Nights” are available at HalloweenHorrorNights.com/Hollywood and on Twitter and Facebook, as Creative Director John Murdy reveals a running chronicle of exclusive information. Fans are invited to follow John Murdy on Twitter at: twitter.com/HorrorNights or via Facebook at: “Halloween Horror Nights - Hollywood (Official).”

  6. I was going to post this in the movie section but since it does possibly have bearing on HHN19, here ya go;

    Source: JoBlo.com by: Mike Sampson

    CIRQUE DU FREAK is perhaps best remembered by me as the Salma-Hayek-as-bearded-lady movie. The film has had the misfortune of being bumped around quite a bit on the calendar and was recently set for a January, 2010 release date. That give me a feeling of dread as little good ever comes from a January release date. But now Universal has given the film a little overhaul and moved CIRQUE out of the January graveyard.

    The film has ditched the CIRQUE name and will now go by the more straightforward (and TWILIGHT friendly) THE VAMPIRE'S ASSISTANT. And instead of January, the film will release on October 23rd of this year. That date, a week before Halloween, surely make more sense than a week when most people are buying six foot subs for their Super Bowl parties. This would also mean though that the marketing campaign would be heating up and we should be seeing a trailer sometime soon.

    Kind of interesting to see that Cirque is getting renamed and a new HHN friendly date. We shall have to wait and see if this one pans out as an HHN attraction this year.

    Cheers!!!

  7. Yeah, that could work. The problem with scare zones, however, is there are so many people walking through them at once that it's hard to feel like you're actually walking through a field of corn. They could put it off to the side though, like they did with the Skoolhouse last year. That would be cool. Children of the Corn is one of those movies that was incredibly scary when I was younger, but was ruined by the ridiculous sequels that followed. That's one movie I wouldn't mind being remade, just because it is an incredibly creepy atmosphere. I don't know who has the rights to the movie though. I know the short story was written by Stephen King, so that could work with using Stephen King inspired scare zones. Anyone ever read Bag of Bones by Stephen King? Great book that could make a pretty scary flick. I also enjoyed "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon."

    Last I heard Children of the Corn is going to be a Sci-Fi Channel movie remake that will air sometime this year. I'm sure it will suck. I agree with you about the crappy sequels. The original was somewhat creepy but overall a pretty crappy movie. I just thought that it will make a decent scarezone. There probably are many non film related SK stuff that would be cool as scarezones, but lets keep with the film stuff as that is what the theme is this year.

  8. Where would they put it though? The year they did it, they had Horror Nights in both parks. It would be awesome though...

    I seriously doubt they would do it this year given the time frame they would need. Don't forget that they grew the corn. One thought is that they could do a simulated corn field and use the same area that the pumpkins were last year. Just a thought.

  9. Don't forget the corn field from Field of Screams was almost destroyed by a hurricane and they were able to make enough out of it to be a pretty good zone. The end result would have been much better had the hurricane not damaged it. I kind of think that if they were going to do another corn field they would be growing it by now. But we can always wish.

    Yeah, the corn field didn't work out quite the way one would have expected. It's difficult to pull that off for a scarezone, though it was one of my favorite scarezones that year. I thought they did a great job with the cornfield in Scary Tales last year.
  10. If Steven King is involved then you can't forget about The Stand. I would say The Shining, but that would kind of be hard to pull off without a hotel. Maybe the snow maze at the end? Oh yeah, and IT!

    I too thought, The Hills Have Eyes could be quite interesting. Not too hard to pull off either.

    Let's see... A Suspiria zone could be interesting. One of the only witch movies I've seen that was actually scary. Halloween as a scare zone... Though I would have preferred a house. Maybe a Van Helsing scare zone that brings most of the horror icons together battling against Van Helsing.

    Silent Hill, Resident Evil, The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Descent, and more as I think of some.

    One more... Wrong Turn.

    Yeah, The Shining would best be used in a house. You need the wind corridors of the hotel to make it work. But the hedge maze would be cool outside. It still could be done in a studio though. Fake snow and all. I can hear Jake yelling "Danny!!!! I'm right behind you!!!"

    I thought of The Stand and I guess they could do some stuff with plague victims and Randell Flagg. I just don't think many people would get it.

    Yeah, I could see Hills Have Eyes working. Make a very deserty like rocking setting with some miner looking props (Use the knuckle grunts tunnels) and alot of big scary guys in mutant masks. Maybe a small girl playing Ruby. That would be sweet.

    Suspiria is a great film no doubt. Not sure how a scarezone would work for it though. I could do without Vam Helsing, but it is a Universal flick so there could be a chance we will see that.

    Silent would be great!!! The creepy siren, the out of this world monsters and that awesome music would make a pissa scarezone. Good Call!!! Resident evil could be good. Sixth Sense not so much. Sign has potential. The Descent definitely would need to be a house. You need inside sets for that and a very close setting for it to feel cavelike. Great movie though.

    Wrong Turn would also work but it would basically be like Hills. Got some good ones there Dick!

    F.U.B.A.R.

  11. I was thinking about the idea that Uni could use the survey idea of Stephen King movies as scarezones this year. I think that if they did that it would work good for The Mist, Children of the Corn and now that you mention it, Salem's Lot would be cool.

    On non King ideas, as CD mentioned 30 Days of Night would be cool. I could see them doing a simulated snow cover with nice bright red splotches of blood here and there. Those vamps were vicious too.

    Dick, I also like the idea of a The Hills have Eyes zone too. A bunch of wild mutants would be neat.

    Keep the idea coming!

    F.U.B.A.R.

    Planet Terror, Quarantine, The Strangers, Army of Darkness (if it's not a house,) The Evil Dead, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Village of the Damned, Hellraiser, Salem's Lot, and The Hills Have Eyes...

    All of those, I think could make for an awesome scarezone. Not sure which ones they could actually use, but all of them would be interesting, in my opinion. I actually think Army of Darkness could make a better scarezone than an actual house. Salem's Lot could be bad ass.

  12. Hey boils and ghouls,

    Thought that it would be fun start a scare zone speculation thread so speculate here on what you think might make a good (or bad) movie based scarezone for HHN19; Ripped From The Silver Screen.

    My pick for a good one; 28 Days Later

    I'm interested to see what everyone has for ideas.

    Cheers!!!

    F.U.B.A.R.

  13. Oh man that would be so cool if you do get that chance. Let know how it goes. If it weren't so close to the end of my vacation I would drive down to PA.

    Yeah, we're going to have some good times!! We deserve it, we work hard the rest of the year!!

    Believe it or not, I "Might" miss being the house sound tech for a Lamb of God show while we're in Orlando. They are negotiating dates now for that new club I'm going to be working at. One of the 3 dates being thrown around is in early November, (the other 2 are the last week of October) so of course I told the promoter to go for the November date !!!!!!!

    I'm sure we will see you again Dusty. It is always great seeing you and doing some HHN! See ya then.

    Hi everyone!

    I will be there sometime around the first of the month and then the 21st and the 28th and maybe more who knows. I cannot wait to see you all again!

    Dusty

  14. Actually if you think about the other movie based haunts of HHN past you can get an idea of what Uni creative will try and achieve. They usually try and give us enviornments that are right out of the movie. Think Dead Silence. You had the graveyard, the mortician's office, the dressing room, the catwalk above the stage ect. Same for other houses like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, People Under the Stairs and of course Doomsday. Sure, The Thing had the essense of the movie, but it was supposed to be a different research facility. I think that you could expect the same for SAW and that would be a very industrial setting with room after room of scenes depicting the "games" and traps of Jigsaw. Each having it's own victim and voiceover from Jigsaw himself. Expect the SAW doll on his trike and of course Jigsaw in his famous red robe and pig head costume. I am sure that there will be many gross out effects in this one kinda like Body Collectors and Run: Hostile Territory. Every year has at least one gross out house. I would expect some cool effects with great moments from the movies like the toilet and the key. Maybe a closet where pig Jigsaw jumps out at you. Who knows, maybe they will have the Amanda character in this too. Some of the traps I see being used are the reverse beartrap headtrap in the first, the pit of syringes and the furance trap. Check out his list for a refresher of Jigsaw's traps;

    http://saw.ugo.com/?cur=traps

    I am not a huge SAW fan, but I can see it making a pretty good house. What do you guys think?

    Cheers!!!& Let the games begin

    F.U.B.A.R.

    That would be neat, but then how would they set up the elaborate traps that Saw is known for? Unless they get scareactors to dress like "normal" people and then they act like they were just thrown in there...This is a tricky house to think about how it would work.
  15. Hell yeah! I will literally be living with you the first week. Whatever we do not know about each other now will surely be known then eh. Lots of good times ahead.

    Cheers!!!

    F.U.B.A.R.

    Me too, as I'll be chillin' with FUBAR a lot during our stay!

    -Mike

  16. Well, thank you for the info Michele. I greatly appreciate it. I ended up booking a mid size car from the Thrifty site and got a great deal of $356 for the two weeks. Of course after the taxes and fees it was $456, but still pretty good.

    Thanks again

    F.U.B.A.R.

    I use Priceline all the time. They have great deals on rental cars. Every time I have used Priceline to travel to Orlando (5 times at least), my car was rented through National or Alamo. They are owned by the same company and are located right next to each other in the airport terminal. Their rental process is quick and painless. Even though they won't tell you the name ahead of time, I'd bet that's who you'll get.

    Using Priceline does have a couple of negatives. They will not let you change or cancel your reservation for any reason. They are very, very strict about this and won't even let you add days to your hotel or rental car. And, if you use them for plane tickets, most airlines will NOT give you miles on a ticket booked through Priceline.

    Well alrighty then. I will be the lucky one Drew!

    And if you hang out with MZ you get me as an added bonus :P
