Good review and yeah, the hedge wallpaper was my biggest gripe with Halloween also. Like that is seriously the most lazy thing I've ever seen in a HHN maze. Worst of all, it was in Halloween, which deserved way better. Apparently it's getting better scores than the 09 maze, and I just don't believe that AT ALL. Saw may have been the top rated house that year, but Halloween was well regarded by everyone on the forums to be the best maze. Not only that, but it had longevity in memory, since Saw was tainted by the repeat the following year (which is probably what's going to happen to AVP for a lot of people -- amazing maze the first year, meh maze the second year, suddenly it goes from one of the best mazes ever and down to a slight nod, shrug, and "yeah, that maze was cool I guess."
I'm really surprised by your high grade for Crimson Peak. I went back and looked at videos of La Llorona, and just no, that maze is way more amazingly designed. Crimson ain't bad looking or anything, but it just doesn't hold a candle. However, it sounds like they stepped up the scares for you guys this week because by all accounts and reviews, Crimson was very soft EPN and opening weekend. I'm hoping it'll be way better on my next go around. Also glad you enjoyed Insidious way more this year.
And of course I'm glad we can all agree TITE is a steaming pile
How did ya have time to see Jabba? Especially if you did TT first?!
I know last night was sold out, but they must've sold way less tickets or something then.

For early entry, it was way less crowded.
-
(Last updated at: 6:50 PM)
Current wait (or next start) times:
UPPER LOT Halloween 30 min Terror Tram NO WAIT! Jabbawockeez 7:30 PM Despicable Me OPENS 7:00 Simpsons 20 min LOWER LOT The Walking Dead 20 min Insidious 40 min This is the End 5 min Transformers 10 min Revenge of the Mummy 10 min Jurassic Park NO WAIT! BACKLOT Crimson Peak 10 min AVP 10 min Really good wait times. However, it is a much less crowded weekend. So that might be a factor and I don't think they should see this as a "win" just yet. I urge Universal to continue to think of ways to make Early Entry less packed in upcoming weeks.

TWD opened to a 50 minute line. Which is pretty DECENT, but still pretty horrible for the regular 7 PM crowd.

That sounds like a horrible idea. Once people are done with that maze, they'll then line up for Insidious and that line will be at a stand still for another 30 minutes, meaning it'll just get super packed and make that line insanely long by 7 PM.
UGH, THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY'RE DOING!!!!!
-
Seems like they're trying to fix Early Entry, which I'm really proud of. Let's hope this weekend goes much better.
-
I really don't see the point of adding F&F to Terror Tram. That doesn't help with capacity, if anything, it makes an attraction much longer and gives you less time to get to your next maze.
I swear, they're purposely trying to make people miss all the mazes.

The point of this thread is how to experience the park without FOL.
As for Halloween, I don't think you can legitimately get in line for it yet. I believe you can hover in that area until 7 hits, but that's probably the most you can do. The line shortens between 9 - 11, so that'll be your best bet to see it.
-
Great job, I know you were kinda bummed to be in there before, but I promise this is the best TWD iteration since 2012, so you all should be proud!!

That Jabba show sure seemed to be packing people in in the queue. Still doesn't get the wait times down AT ALL though.
If this Fast and Furious weekend doesn't help with capacity at all, I strongly urge Uni to start thinking about adding something else on the upper lot to get people to gravitate away from the lower lot. Heck, maybe even open Shrek 4D -- show some horror clips if you want, but do something with that nice big theatre that can fill people in. Animal Actors, there's critters sleeping okay, decent excuse, but there's no reason you can't use Shrek. Before there was a maze there, had to use the queue, so that was problematic, but again, no excuse anymore. In fact, what would really be cool is if there was a Crimson Peak sneak... peak... in there like Disneyland does for their movies, with 4D type environments. Not only would this get people interested in the movie, but also make them more familiar and want to go to the backlot to see the maze. DOUBLE WHAMMY with driving people away from the lower lot.
Now realistically, I know it'd cost some dough and take some time to convert a Crimson Peak sneak peek 4D experience into the Shrek auditorium. However, a regular sneak peek of the movie would cost almost nothing. How many people does it take to run that attraction? It'd also be cool to see a horror special effects show, like the Special Effects Stages back when it was on the lower lot. A quick little 10 min presentation with some fun and informative gory moments. This could fit in the theatre across from Despicable Me. Right now, Dark Christmas is an extremely low traffic area with House of Horrors closed.
I know Uni is trying to save money, hence the cutback on so many options, but this cheap strategy is really digging into the event, making the event a less fun experience for guests because of the insane wait times. VIP was also a good way to get a lot of guests away on the tours, thus lowering capacity in the lines.
Spend a little more money, add more options throughout the park, improve guest morale, and send everyone home happy.
Universal, hire me...

Speaking of which, I feel SO SORRY for anyone who has those dialogue repeat roles, which there seems to be ALOT of this year.
I can't imagine how mind numbingly annoying it must be to stand in one spot for HOURS and mouth the words "he's got your baby" every time a light hits you, which is every 10 seconds or so.
The amount of money you'd need to be pay me to do that is far beyond a practical amount.
Like, you don't even get to actually SAY the words, which then you'd get to change up every once and awhile and make fun for yourself, but you're strictly prohibited to mouthing the words of these dang lines at least 10 times a minute,
Which is even worse for Emma Watson who has to physically throw an axe on each one of those intervals.
I imagine those are the most challenging roles, more so than any heavy lifting role, because these are psychologically damaging. That's just how I'd feel though haha -
Yeah, if you have FOL, you could prob come at like 9 and still be good haha
-
I don't think it would be popular at all.
Kong express was pretty popular, so I'm sure F&F will be too.
-
I remember someone saying that as well, but mine definitely has TWD. Unless there's another one floating around somewhere...

From what it sounds like the back lot is not that crowded this year. Is that the case for those who went on opening weekend?
It's pretty tolerable for the beginning and the end. I'd say 40 min waits between 7:30 - 9, 12 - 2. While from 9 -12, it's maybe 60-80 at the most, which isn't that bad in comparison to the other mazes all 80 - 150.

I love the idea of a vomiting Jonah in one of the boo holes instead of the demons. I mean, those demons are just so out of place...
-
I don't have a pic of it, but the souvenir sipper is the TWD with the walkers coming out of the truck. It has the same cap as last year, but the actual cup is red, see through, and has an engraved design on it. It's not a horror-ish design though, it has like stars and such.
I really wish they would just go back to the old, simple souvenir cup designs and have multiple properties on the picture.

So, I'm going on a Thursday and I just wanted to see this years game plan and being able to visit all mazes at least once. If there's any revisions I should make, please do. My current schedule consists of getting there at 5 or before, for Early Entry and not going on any rides just so we can be in line already, due to the lines being long before the park has even opened yet, which I heard, then from there, running to every maze. I would love your guys' output and feedback and help!
I think my current plan is this:
TWD, Insidious, TITE, Crimson peak, AvP, (maybe tt) Halloween.
Does that sound good, or should I go with...
Plan B:
TWD, TITE, Crimson Peak, AvP , Insidious, (maybe tt if I have time), Halloween.
You'll have plenty of time on a Thursday for either plan. I wouldn't recommend saving Halloween last though. Try to get that some time in the middle of your night before TT closes. From 7 - 9 and 11:30 - 1:30, that maze has a 100 minute wait time (which will prob translate to 70 mins on a Thursday).

I probably did see you because that sounds familiar. And I liked this portion of the tram, very good energy from all of the cast and it was chaotic. Story-wise, I was a bit confused because of the auctioneer and what that had to do with. I tried to slow down because I heard about the little "show" or whatever, but never saw anything, so it makes sense now why that didn't happen. Hopefully story-wise the section gets smoothed out, but I think you guys are doing great at Bates.
My only complaint with the tram was the hill and the ten minute line just to get to the top. Everything before and after was pretty great and the cast was surely rocking it. So hopefully within a few weeks, the story comes together better so the atmosphere isn't muddled and hopefully they fix whatever traffic nonsense they have to so the awesome cast can really shine without any disturbances in guest experience.

Great post and very helpful to those who are still yet to go. So did you not get to do TWD on Saturday? And did you ever have time to see the Jabbawockeez show?
Based on your two experiences, what would you say is the best game plan of attack?
