If there was a maze with a 184 page treatment, Murdy would've made a big deal about it and just not mention one of the other 5, I assume. So I think it's safe to say there will be 7 mazes, on top of TWD. This could mean either A. the event is big enough to handle 7 mazes plus a show, or B. they're back to no shows.

There will be at least one show. Jabawockeez implied they would be back on their Twitter. Seven houses, a show, TWD, and Potter is going to eat up capacity like crazy.

I think foodstamps brought this up, but Galin said that we may not be getting Krampus this year. Murdy did say that the letter "k" appears once in the line up. You know what else is rumored in the Orlando thread?

    Killer Clowns from Outter Space.

Murdy loves clowns, fans have requested this a lot, and the movie screams material for the obligatory 3D house. Looks like we'll be sharing that. What do you guys think?

  2. ^Murdy isn't counting TWD. Why wrote treatment for a house that is almost done? It's not going to be an overlay but it's own separate attraction.

I feel like its a huge mistake on Murdy's part to reveal the number of treatment pages he's worked on if he wants to keep the house count under wraps.

Excluding TWD, we are getting at least six for sure, but I feel like we're going back up to seven.

  3. Well, it would've been nice to know where this was located. Here's what we got:

    1) As was previously mentioned, the "in-between" scenes for the bedroom will take inspiration from the banned trailer.

    2) This will be very blackout heavy.

    3) Will be very theatrical. Several scenes will not have traditional "jump-out" scares.

From what Murdy is saying, this is going to be hit-or-miss execution. I'm looking forward to seeing how those effects are going to be pulled off as several of them can't be pulled off by a scare actor. Yeah, I know, this sounds eerily familiar to Evil Dead, but I'm confident Murdy will deliver.

Those transitions better be good and not just some black walls. I really hope they're creative.

I really hope they go all out and have completely uncensored sound bytes from the film.

I'm going first weekend. God knows everyone is gonna be offended to high heaven with this maze and it'll be toned down to nothing by After Party.

Don't give your hopes up. If they bleep the word "hoe" out of the Jabawockeez show, there's no way they're going to allow even half the stuff Captain Howdy says in there. They have been really scared to offend people recently after Bill and Ted.

  5. First off, congratulations to Murdy for finally catching his Moby Dick! I'm happy for Murdy. He's been wanting to do this for more than a decade. Glad to finally see the blood sweat and tears to getting the rights pay off.

As for what they can work with, it doesn't have to be just in the room. Murdy did tweet in the past he would also use scenes from the third movie. They could also use the scene in the living room where Regan pees on the carpet and the basement where she finds the weegee board. They can use Capt. Howdy for the scare in those scenes. Throw in scenes from 3 as well as the spider walk scene and boom. You have enough material to work with.

I'm excited but cautiously optimistic. I'm confident this will be a top ten for sure as this will be a passion project for  Murdy. Although this issue has improved last year, I really hope there won't be any choppy or inconsistent transitions as that tends to be Murdy's biggest weakness for designing mazes...namely the infamous black walls. It would be a shame for a house with great scenes weakened by choppy transitions. Yeah, I'm looking at you AWiL.

But I'm stoked. Good for Murdy. I'm sure it'll be great.

  6. Going to say it's Krampus as the Blu Ray release is tomorrow. Maybe they have an ad inside the case and they don't want to spill it until the actual announcement. Remember that Evil Dead leak three years ago?

Whatever it is, I'm very happy to see that we're getting house announcement MUCH earlier now. The fans are happier, leaks are minimized, we have a bone to chew on….everybody wins. It's a far cry from 2010 when we didn't get our first announcement until August (Still traumatized by the fiasco of that year).

With A lot of the construction finishing up there will finally be tons of breathing room

When I was at the entrance a couple of days ago, there was a TON of space on the main entrance. It feels a lot more free. I don't think we're out of the woods yet for construction. A reliable source on Inside Universal suggests that Cartooniversal may not see any of 2017. Unless they don't plan on getting rid of it until after HHN's run, then we could see more walls around Cartooniversal. Other than that, it's going to be all about the lower lot for a while.

Oh, I'm terrible at getting pictures, but if you are able to dig through InsideUniversal's Twitter, they posted a picture of the former Gibson entrance. It's not a HUGE open space and that could be a sizable space to hold a JP queue-scale house. Just have the queue in WaterWorld and have a staff member moderate restroom traffic and the queue.

  8. "Most challenging maze ever"? Hmmm….. the Conjuring and the Walking Dead are no different that what they've done. Krampus and FVJ maybe a little more challenging. The only thing that comes to mind that could be "challenging" would be the X-Files. I haven't watched the show, but it's got aliens in it…which has been a hit for HHN. I think that's a good possibility.

    Also from Murdy's Twitter:

"Later today I'll be sitting down with my partner Chris to do the first concept session for maze #3 which is a huge creative challenge. For most of the mazes we design, it's pretty clear what the concept is going to be and its just a matter of which scenes make it. This property is a different story. It violates almost every rule we have for what makes a great maze, it requires a different approach. So why attempt it? Because I know the chances of failure are high. It scares the hell out of me that's going to push us to do our best work."

  9. Put this in the pot for speculation next year, but Hellraiser may finally have a chance for 2017 as a remake is in the works. Doug Bradley and Clive Barker are back on board.

    http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Clive-Barker-Bringing-Back-Original-Pinhead-Hellraiser-Remake-We-Can-Actually-Support-40018.html

The only issue is that it's under Westein. We all know how much of a headache they can be for HHN. Just throwing it out there and hope it works out for next year.

  10. I thought about this codename and the whole letter thing. Of all the movies I know that have been heavily requested and would involve production with the El Cucuy wig, Cabin is the Only one I can think of that would make sense. The problem is, if it was on the short list, none of the properties have a b in it. Maybe the loophole is that it came up after that tweet? IDK...Any other ideas as to what it could be?

Unrelated to the codename, but do you guys see the X-Files as a possibility? The series has a large following and the relaunch airs tomorrow.

  11. I'll try to keep up with this as much as I can, but this will be used for reference to figure out some of the houses.

    Miscellaneous Notes:

-Letters "Q", "B", and "Z" appear nowhere in the line up. The letter "P" only appears once as well as "K".

-Terror Tram will be an original idea not based on an IP.

    -No music house this year

-There are a total of 678 pages of maze treatment this year

    Wisconsin:

-Codename ties with a specific city in the state the codename is based on and the film that's connected to the codename
-Highly requested house by the fans
-Film that's never been used in Horror Nights
-Has some original elements, a crazy idea John had that was inspired by something from the movie but not in the movie..
-Will be working on a production for it with the El Cucuy wig returning.

    -Treatment is 92 pages

    Dorris Day

-Codename can be a song, album, or movie title from Dorris Day.

-Most "original" maze of the bunch

-Has a small revolving piece of scenery that can alter a scene

-Features a fairly long intro that will set up the story at the facade, before you go inside. Also has a strange ode to the Smiths

-Some "Original filming" was done for facade

    -Treatment is 90 pages

Maze #3 (Confirmed to be the Exorcist)

-Score is going to play key element in audio design.

-It is a "Huge creative challenge" and "Violates almost every rule" they have for what  "makes a great maze" and "requires a different approach".

-Possibly may be the "darkest maze ever"

    -75 pages of treatment

    Maze #4

-Possibly the "Dark Horse" of the event

    -Has treatment of 110 pages

    Maze #5

    -Treatment is 127 pages

Hmmm. It's either Freddy Vs. Jason or the Conjuring.

The Conjuring. That's what I am thinking it can't be that easy.

What if it's so easy, that it would be the last thing the fans would guess. It's an ingenious carny plan. Also, if it is true, then you guys will not be getting the Conjuring.

I know this is reaching REALLY far, but Guillermo del Toro is in talks on creating a "Scary Stories To Tell In the Dark" movie and I think that would make for a cool (if not only nostalgic) maze.

I think it can make good speculation for next year. There's no way it will be out in time for it to be considered into this year's line-up.

    TWD year round????

Really? You didn't hear about this? This was Murdy's secret project. One of the leakers from 2015's line up said that Murdy is working on a year round haunt themed to TWD that will go in the HoB replacement building. That gap between that building and Baker will be for a queue.

So so that's one house down. Add Conjuring and FVJ to most likely and we already know almost half the line up already.

So, Murdy has tweeted that the 2016 slate is nearly locked.

I do not recall this every happening this quickly.

Knowing how fluid and hard to lock down IP is, it makes me envision two scenarios:

    1) All 2016 mazes will be related to Walking Dead.   Lots of readers just threw up in their mouth...

    2) Maybe - just maybe - 2016 won't have that many IPs.  I know there's a better chance of my first scenario happening, but one can dream.

I think the reason why the slates locked so quickly at this point is because Murdy already knew what he wanted during the event, pretty much. I seriously doubt that means there won't be very many IPs. FVJ and Conjuring are pretty much in the bag, TWD was something he's worked on some the past year on the side (As that will be a year-round attraction after HHN's run), Krampus and Purge are properties Uni already owns, and the rest of the properties are probably ones owned by producers he already has a good relationship with. Maybe we'll be fortunate enough to actually have a really good original concept. If we do, I'm sure he will make it the 3D house, unfortunately.
