  1. At the event now and thought I would share this. On the receptionist desk in Ghostbusters there is a red button, me being the person that wants to find ALL the secrets I reached for it and pushed it. The Actor tried to push my hand away and some nearby staff yelled at me. They then held us there for like five minutes and im not sure if it was because I screwed up or if it was a cast switch.

EDIT: I did end up pushing the button and I think it made the phone ring which was something for the actor to use. Notice that her voice is not prerecorded, it's all the work of the actor.

To be honest, I don’t have a massive problem with lighter content being featured. Trust me, I love the intense stuff, but I think that, as said before in this thread, it’s important to introduce a new audience of teenagers and young adults to HHN. I know that ST coming to the event ultimately serves as a means for Universal to make massive bank, but it does that by drawing in a population that might never have been interested in the park before.

With the event coming close to 30 years old, we have to consider the generational differences between the diehard fans and the newcomers. Horror Nights wasn’t incredibly dark in its first few years, as they mostly revolved around the classic monsters (which are back again), and it sort of amped up in terror-factor over time. I don’t think that the older audience is “growing out” of the HHN fandom - we definitely have many middle-aged site members - but not everyone from the older days has still been frequenting the event. Passion and dedication towards theme parks in general is kind of niche as an older person with a career and a family.

I also don’t think that we’re being patronized by “softer” content. Compared to, say, the Carnival of Carnage, the event has steered away from a lot of the intensity it once had, but that may be to welcome those who are just getting into horror. I don’t know about you guys, but HHN was NOT my first horror attraction, and I think I had to be exposed to other things first to not be terrified. I think that, even with “soft” content, it’s undeniably a blast to just sit in a street and witness what’s going on with areas like Vamp ‘85 and such, and being fun is harmless and what can pull people back.

Also, I think it’s important to consider the toll that gun violence and internal terrorism has had on the United States and the world at large in the last decade, just as we did with 9/11; from dozens of school shootings to the Ariana Grande bombing to the horrific events of Pulse only eight miles away from Universal, it’s sort of difficult to tackle gore in a way that doesn’t drive people away.

I don’t know how much of that side of things actually influences the HHN team, but I think it’s important to consider that the audience isn’t necessarily the stereotype of otherwise stable adults that can’t handle the slightest offense, but younger people who are invested in ST and likely the rest of the houses once exposed to them, as well as the possibility of a community heavily affected by Pulse.

None of this talk really means anything anyway, because the team is going to choose the IPs that they choose and base it on profit in the end, but I think we should be more welcoming of younger people and their lack of exposure.

Of course, I say all of this as a twenty-year-old who was first exposed to Horror Nights content at twelve but has only gone for 28 and soon to be 29. Personally, I had a blast last year, to the point where I not only bought more individual tickets, but ended up upgrading to an Ultimate Frequent Fear pass, contributing hundreds as just one individual. I was prepared for the gore and violence that comes with HHN (the first house video I ever saw was that of La Llorona, and damn, was that dark), but I left with a smile on my face every night. The scareactors put so much energy and joy into their zones, and the concepts were expressed so creatively that it didn’t matter whether they were “dark” or not, at least for me. Did anyone here particularly hate Vamp ‘85? To me, it was so unique and entertaining compared to other ‘traditional’ haunts, and that’s what kept me coming back.

Anyway, yeah, if HHN30 isn’t a celebration of everything that the event has been, brutalization and all (including a Jack show, please god), I’ll be bothered. But for 29, it looks like, if nothing else, the HHN team wants us to have fun. Based on how much enjoyment the event brought last year, I went ahead and got myself a UFF+ pass as well as the six-house tour, and I’m anticipating so many nights of excitement. If you got this far, thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great time, guys!

Damn, I honestly have been thinking about this same thing since November of last year so I could make this years speculation list.

I feel like next year is going to reflect HHN as a whole like you said.

It's going to represent classic horror and modern horror.

    Different Medias and different Era's.

  3. The Ghostbusters situation really pisses me off, like a ton. If you look at how they have been advertising Ghostbusters you can see that it is not represented in the commercial and is replaced by US.

BUT! if you look at the Advertising for HHN on posters and flyers you see that Ghostbusters is present. Also I would like to bring attention that the announcement video was completely original and had to be shot by Universal, the only way you could tell it was GB was the jumpsuits, and we had the lack of the iconic theme. They are being super strict on how they represent there property. I have no idea why there is a lack of GB representation.

Just a friendly remainder that even though we have all house and SZ pretty much universal only confirmed 4/10 houses and 0 SZ stuff can change(hopefully not) or not be correct till Universal announces it.

If there was a house change we would probably know by now.

However, the worst that can happen is that an IP falls through but it's unlikely.

I actually hope Scarezones get changed or get redesigned, because Scarezones this year are kinda underwhelming.

I just want more details about Scarezones so I can really see how the Zones will shape the event.

  5. Now on a scale of one to ten how likely are these houses on the spec map being true? For Orlando anyway. And if we are going off of the concepts of originals instead of there names how about the likely hood of those too?

I ask because Im trying to debate if I should buy tickets now in the possibility of the lineup being a bit different or if I should not go at all this year. Nothing really connects with me this year like past years did. The only houses im kinda looking forward to is Nightingales and Uni Monsters but that's it (maybe yeti)

And it really breakes my heart to say that out loud. I don't really have any interest in The Graveyard concept,  or the Underwater Original. Yeti sounds like it could be interesting and alot of fun.

Im with the Majority when I say Originals are pretty amazing but it's just not clicking for me like 28, 27, and 26 did. IP's are eh. Klowns was expected, House of 1000 corpses doesn't really capture my interest, Ghostbusters sounds incredible but I just think it's off putting and a little desperate.

    So im losing hope......

However, There is always the fact how likely these concepts are of happening. A change of an Original and or an Ip or two would make all the difference. You can disagree with me if desired and that's totally ok just thought I would speak out and voice my opinion.

  6. I think we are gonna get another announcement around the beginning of May. Tbh, I was not expecting to get the Nightingales announcement as early as we did. I actually want them to wait for them to announce House 3# just for a sec. I always feel like they are rushed to announce all good IP at the beginning of the HHN Announcement Season and not wait until July or August so they can gain hype and Presales which kinda ruins it for me. Especially when you have an IP that's BIG and they just drop it in the Early months, not saying that it's not surprising, but it would be more surprising to do it during later in the Announcement Season, im talking Augustish. Im aware it's harder to have surprises later because the amount of leaks we get that confirm and debunk stuff is crazy.

I know last year we had IP's announced later but by they got here we already knew they were coming -_-   Im talking about something completely random and exciting. If im oblivious and they have all ready dropped some bombs like I've described please make me a list xD

Speaking of Presales, where are Tickets!? Pretty sure they went on sale last year when ST was announced.

Im gonna call it and say if we are getting an announcement Tuesday next week, it might be Child's play...

Orion is trying way to hard to make people go see that movie. But who knows......

HHN speculation really kicks you in the ass sometimes.

that's what I mean we might be getting either or. and as for Stranger Things is going to be a mega house, getting The Walking Dead treatment, I wouldn't doubt a return next year would be like how Walking Dead exit was like where we go through each season and then finally season 4 but too soon talk about. As for the new Chucky movie I don't think Universal will go for that, people will hate it, after coming off the scarezone last year, I think Chucky just needs a break, he's been sorta overused like Freddy, Jason and Leatherface, and Michael, take a look at Hollywood, it shouldn't happen over here too. They should only bring him back if there is an anniversary of the Child's Play series or something but after seeing how the new movie looks not saying it's the worst but I don't think it will be the best, after seeing how they did Poltergeist, I rather Universal do an original Child's Play maze but they need to find other ips and not re-use.

How is Chucky overused? Hasn't he only been at Orlando like twice?

Ive heard that this year might be mostly rehash from last year.

Jesus, I know that might sound horrible but it might not be bad as we thought. (Hopefully)

My Spidey Senses tells me that surprise that Murdy mentioned means he is gonna throw us a really fun and unexpected curve ball. A property that know one has mentioned yet.

A part of me wants it to be a Video game Property but that sounds so silly saying that out loud. Hopefully this doesn't happen, but it would suck if that property is exclusive to Hollywood.

Im gonna go sit in a corner and wait for them to announce an Original now XD

  8. Since the Stranger things house contains 2 and 3, does that means it's gonna be a mega house?

Also, the fact that they arnt coming out with ticket sales yet kinda confirmes that there will be more then one big property. I want to say we will follow the announcement pattern we had last year that they announce an IP then an Original but who knows.

I also wanna add that instead of a house based off of this years Child's Play reboot that maybe instead we are more likely to get one of the first three movies in a house (or all of them)

Going through the Good Guys factory from the second film would be pretty Jaw dropping for me.

  9. Im still clamoring over what Murdy said in a QnA a bit ago.

    "Some things you wouldn't expect"

    So vague and so mysterious!

Im waiting for him too pull some crazy rabbit out of his hat and everyone be like "HOLY SHIT!!?!?!?!?!?!?!"

Im hoping for Gremlins, the fact that Murdy didn't disprove it makes me hopeful. And Spielberg is buddy buddy with Uni, so maybe?

WB don't ruin this for me please :(

It's such a niche thing that it would never happen, but god an SCP house would be so cool. It's getting weirdly popular again though, so it could attract some people!

Love the idea! The rights for that though would be fucking monstrous!

If one person went and did the whole thing by himself then maybe but it's a huge collection of people that make up the universe.

I was also thinking about that idea recently as well.

It's nice to dream sometimes. :)
