  1. It is in reference to

video, which was then turned into a song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMtZfW2z9dw.

This weekend I've found myself one of around 13,000 people who used Crown Currency Exchange to order foreign currency, who due to them going into administration (bankrupt) won't be getting my $1100 next week and most likely won't be getting a refund of GB £s. Things were tough for this trip already, but now I'm needing to order a second lot of money to eat and drink for three weeks when I'm over there. And that really, really hurts.

But this video made me smile when I thought I couldn't. Definitely glad I saw it before going in blind to the B&T show, I'll laugh that much harder now.

  2. Because I won't be at the event until the 20th, I'ce skimmed past the spoilers and just read the 'it sucked' comments :(

It's a shame because for me, Bill and Ted is a huge part of HHN... back in 97 when I was too scared to go in houses, the show was my favourite part, even if most of the humour went over my head. I make a point of catching the show every night I go now. So to hear almost universally rotten things about it saddens me.

On the one hand, I have enjoyed the last few years, so maybe it'll be funny to me... and at least I'll be going in with low expectations, so they could easily be met.

Or, the show could suck so bad it puts me off saving up for another year to visit in 2011.

  3. I'd like a review from anyone who is able to attend, to know if it's worth my money... just being able to listen to the creative team discuss their work would probably be worth it for me, but I'd like to know if it's a super-short presentation or of there's no time for questions or hanging out afterwards - that'd probably change my mind. Also, how much are the drinks, can you stay there the whole night or just the time around the talks, etc.

  4. OMG, it's unreal how well the both Menace and Malice fit in this venue. doing the shows at BJ makes me really see all the challenges we had at Animal Actors... BJ theater is more intimate (there's not a bad seat in the house), the sound system is better, the lighting is incredible, and we're able to use the entire stage... very excited.

I havn't been to the Beetlejuice show in... oh, 10 years maybe?... but I remember the stage being (or feeling) quite a way away from the audience? Sorta similar to Bill and Ted with the wide pathway at the front... whereas when I saw the show on the Animal Actors stage it felt as though we were very near to you, almost like we were part of the show, or a studio audience or something. Might be because I remember BJ with an elevated stage so you're looking down on us? I dunno, has age just played tricks with my mind, or I wonder if this year will feel more like 'observing' compared to 2007/8's 'involved' feel?

  5. I think the crowd who come for one night will pass on at least one of the shows, maybe even both (and Bill and Ted), because at the end of the day they're turning up to get scared in the houses and on the streets, not to see magic and illusion shows. With house times hitting 2 hours sometimes, it's an inevitability they won't get time to see it all.

But I think those of us who spring for the Frequent Fear pass, who hit the event on multiple nights, are just as excited as you are about what you've got lined up for us. I'm going seven nights this year and plan on catching both Menace and Malice several times. How does that work, will the map list which show is on at which time, or will we just have a list of all showtimes and we don't know which one we're seeing until we're in there? That's important, if they only see times for one show ("Brian Brushwood: Menace and Malice", as they plug it on the website) they'll see it and not even realise there's new stuff to stick around for in the next one.

  6. I for one have never seen Brian as I live in England and can only get across every so often for HHN. This year I will be able to check out the shows and I'm looking forward to them, I hated Rocky Horror and Bill and Ted was a bit cheesy for me, although I will give it another go. It is nice to see something different this year for those of us that haven't seen Brian. I think a lot of people on the forum's need to understand that we/you are just a handful of people out of thousands, and I believe most members of the general public who attend the event will also watch Brian's shows.

I'll reserve judgement until I see the show but try not to bash the guy too much for repeating an act, I'm sure with the kind of thing Brian does, he can't exactly reveal his full hand of ideas and tricks to the audiences by changing every show, this way he would have a very short career. He needs to be able to hold a certain amount of material back for future years to prolong his career. If you're reading Brian, good luck and I hope the shows are a success.

I really don't care if we see the same stuff we've seen before - he's sticking a pipe through his head and sending water out his mouth! How can anyone get sick of that??

...but who knows: I may bring the RB2 setup anyway.

Dude, if you bring Rock Band, shotgun drums! That'd be too awesome.

  7. Yeah, kind of a giant anti-climax... I wasn't expecting a huge leap of improvement from what leaked originally, but they still tease the cymbal-monkey in the intro, and don't show it... yeah, this and last year's commercials have been disappointing and kinda tame.

  8. See, I've always found it the other way around - I think the 23rd is classed as a 'hell week' where a bunch of schools are out, and Halloween weekend people usually make other plans... like they'll go to the event earlier in the month, and go to a friend's party on Halloween weekend.

Either way, Fri and Sat will be very heavy days.

In the parks before HHN I've never noticed huge lines, however this year there's the "Potter Factor" so I don't know what to expect

  9. Yeah it is your opinion, its a wrong and impossible one, but an opinion I guess I have to respect. The thing about Brushwood is you and I mean you corpselicker are just one person. The majority of the "hate" of the brushwood show comes from the "hardcore fans" of HHN. Well guess what, most of the online forum board "Hardcore fans" are only a handful compared to the ones that aren't and go to the even just to have fun and could care less about certain themes, the production behind the show, etc. You know the stuff we discuss on the forums and also care about. The same goes for the other things people whine about. There are going to be things that do not please everyone. You can't please everyone it is quite impossible to do so. I say just wait sit and wait until the show actually starts then whine about it, because all of the hate of houses, scarezones, events, etc are all based off of speculation.

See, now I'd consider myself to be a 'hardcore HHN fan', and yet I really like Brian's stuff. Both times I have seen his show I have been entertained, which is all he (and the entire event) sets out to do. It sounds like the hate stems from something that happened behind-the-scenes in 2008, something I havn't heard of and, if everyone's this vocal about his participation in the event, I don't WANT to hear about it.

  10. He always hangs by the stage to chat to anyone who wants to talk to him... I've met him both times I've seen the show and he's an awesome guy, there's a lot of people who want to get photos with him but he always gives you as much time as you want - in 2008 we spent like 5 minutes talking about my "The Cake Is A Lie" shirt, and how game developer Richard Garriott pulled one of his scams from the International Space Station! I know he's a touchy subject on these forums but I for one am very glad he's back.

  11. Something to celebrate about HHN 21: our favorite event will finally be old enough to drink!! So I would like to pitch a house for next year:

We enter a soundstage through the usual doors, but instead of meeting a facade, we find ourselves backstage - white sheets of paper taped to the black walls tell us where our boo-holes are, and we snake our way into "Scene 4 - Kitchen". As we walk through what looks like any other HHN house, frat boys jump out at us and get right in our faces, then laugh to their friends and walk away. Occasionally, a big guy with his girlfriend will punch one of us in the nose, just to prove how tough he is. We exit through another boo-hole and find ourselves at the end of a house, where we report the guy to the police. He appears, still laughing and waving his blinky-cup, until he is led away, charged and escorted out of the park. The 'house' actually continues outside the stage and we walk past the vendor shouting "ICE COLD WATER! BEER HERE!" as several other men vomit into a trash can and/or over our shoes.

  12. This description of Saws n Steam leapt out at me:

Beware upon entering the city, as the water in your body is now a coveted resource. And the citizens will stop at nothing to get it.

Sounds similar to how in Bioshock (video game), the citizens of the underwater city wanted to harvest the 'Adam' (a power source) from your player's body. I know a lot of people have said how a Bioshock house would rock, but I'm not suggesting for one minute that we'll see Big Daddys roaming the street... the setting is completely different. Still, Bioshock has a very heavy steampunk theme, and much like how Buffy's "Gentlemen" were an inspiration for the Collectors in image only, perhaps we'll see some elements of the game appear in this scarezone.

  13. After looking back through Wikipedia, I've deduced that my first year was '98... I was too scared to go in the houses but me and my Dad walked the scarezones, knocked out a few rides and saw the Bill and Ted show - even though I was too young to get a lot of the humor I really liked it and that's what brought me back in 2000 and 2001. I got up the courage to go in The Mummy Returns house that year. Then I couldn't return until 2005, at which point we got the Frequent Fear and went about 4 times, so I went in every house once. That's when I fell in love with the event and I've been back every year since, doing every house.

It's tough to save up to fly over every year, especially recently, but it's always worth it.

  14. I'm having a hard time choosing. Part of me says that it would be nice to not have to wait so long in a line but the other part of me is saying that i will be attending a lot this year..do i really need a FFP/w express pass? I will end up seeing and doing everything anyway. I also was thinking that if my friends come along, they most likely wont have a EP ticket so i wont ever go on the EP line because i'll wanna be with them.

    Idk which to buy!!!

Sounds like you've already convinced yourself what to do :P

  15. Ok here's what i've been thinking since I got offline last night, i'm definitely feeling a gateway/portal vibe, with the previous years as a tool to collect fear (like Doctor Doom Fearfall) maybe? Also the device from 2008 might also have been a faster or more efficient way to collect the energy they needed, maybe why the previous staff is now gone and maybe why they may be working against us because they want this to happen. The pictures might be that gateway/portal showing up, now how the lantern ties in or who/what is coming/going through the portal I haven't got a clue, but Legendary Truth name for their agents even hints at this...."the COLLECTIVE" as in collecting fear/energy/whatever. The ancient symbols, the eye of horus, everything could be part of the plot, heck most of those symbols tie in to the portal idea

I like the idea of working against the staff from 2008...
