I can't comment on much, but HHN has built fairly large scale zones DAILY between day-time to event. Like, building full structures, moving out props, etc etc. It's not as crazy as some suggest,

I understand. I'm not saying that Universal is making a poor business decision in this manner. I was merely stating my personal reasons for preferring the original haunts. "Living a movie" loses a bit of its luster when the actual movie couldn't keep your interest.
nah, I hear ya. I do like IP houses just as much as originals. And I think there are very few houses where we "lived the movie" instead of taking a property and spinning them on their own to fit it's own story line. I don't have the wherewithal to defend that statement, though. Hahaha.

I guess I find myself rarely a big fan of the movies that Universal selects. I mean, obviously the New Line deal brought a lot of classics in, but all too often it just seems like they find whatever sub-par movie they're turning out in the general time frame and say "good enough."
Doomsday? The Wolfman? The Thing? These had classics as their origins, but the modern movies themselves were pretty awful. Chucky had some degree of prestige at some point, but when was the last time someone left a Saw sequel saying "that was a good use of my two hours"?
So, I guess I don't really get the same things out of those houses that, say, a huge fan of the movie would. Now, if there was a house based on The Shining or Halloween or....
*wishful thinking*
I thought The Thing prequel was pretty good. The Wolfman was a Universal picture, so that's a no-brainer to promote that. And the general public loves SAW, as much as you might not (and the wait times for the house proved that)

As for the topics at hand - if the Simpsons ride was closed during HHN, couldn't they put a cool SZ in front of it? I mean, really, how important is it to have that ride open? I've often thought it was a great spot for a SZ.. a natural, really, with the big clown head right there.
the rides being open is a VERY good thing. A 15-45 minute wait for a few of those rides keeps the wait times down for the houses. You should thank those R&S attendants too, because I think they get it worse than the people doing the scaring.

it's called Halloween HORROR nights, Not open mic night...I want SCARES.
I don't go to get scared, I go to see what an amazing job Universal and the scareactors have done. The scares are awesome and definitely adds to it, but that's not the reason I love the event.

BloodenGutz will not be the icon, nor will he return. The actor who played him in the queue video does not work for the company anymore.
wait. wha? When did that happen?

just to give everybody a heads up, there's a pretty awesome Walking Dead shirt at teefury.com right now. It will go away at 11:59pm tonight.

For such a hardcore fanbase of an event that we all love, you guys turn on it on an INSTANT without any hesitation. I mean, people were bashing the event before anybody knew anything official! That's just crazy to me. Saying you don't like something and YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS YET. I'm truly flabbergasted by this.
Disappointing.

Like I said.... joy puke my face off.

Maybe they will be ditching the parade, allowing more room for scarezones and a empty building for a house (parade building)
I certainly hope not.

I just can't even begin to fathom all of the hate on this year AND IT'S JULY. JU-LY.
Also, my sources told me that the icon is going to be the deer head and laughing lamp from Evil Dead II.

I will FIGHT you.

My thoughts on themes for the houses:
Silent hill - A walkthrough based on the upcoming movie. You would have to have the classic Silent Hill sign, ash covered town, The lakeside carnival, the hospital, and possibly the mall. the air raid horn is a must and a trasition effect from the fog world to the other world would be awesome. The nurses, and pyramid Head, and Robbie the Rabbit are a must. Missonary, Valltiel, Insane Cancer... are other possibilites. (hard to say I don't know what's in the movie). The split worm and the closers would be sick!
if there's a Silent Hill house I will joy puke my face off. You have no idea.

I just started drawing since the beginning of March 2012. I've honestly never drawn before other than some crude stick figures and some occasional robots. I got my tablet today (3/21/2012) and a copy of Photoshop CS5. I'll be posting art whenever I finish it. I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think!

One of my favorites was the Weeping Angel/Facade of Winter's Night. Amazing costume/scare and one if the most ominous, beautiful facades ever crafted.

Don't forget about the Universal store in Festival Bay. I got my XX House shirt there on the super-cheap.
HHN 22 Speculation

it's easier for guests to get into the ride and it's easier for the TM's there to be able to talk to guests without everybody getting scared. That's a ride that requires to put your bag into a locker, so it requires a lot of communication between the guests/TM's operating the ride. It doesn't have to do with popularity, despite Revenge of the Mummy being fairly popular during the event. I can't confirm this is why we haven't seen a zone there, I can only infer that this is the reason why.
