Well, as most of you had heard, Wes Craven died at 76 today after losing to brain cancer. You know what sucks? The year we were supposed to get Scream happens to be the same year the horror legend who made that great satire on horror passed away. Instead, Dimension screwed us and Universal by yanking the rights to it. That house could've been a a nice tribute to the passing of Wes Craven. Screw you Dimension and screw you producers of the (abysmal) show who own the rights to it. What a shame.
R.I.P. Wes Craven. You were one of the greats.
Unrelated: My dad happened to be a sound editor for his show Chiller.
I know dude No doubt his legacy will be done justice in Freddy Vs. Jason but Dimension screwed us and Universal out of the ultimate two-for-one tribute to Wes and his work

I'm interested in seeing The Storyteller finally getting a Scary Tales scene.. weren't they trying to retcon Scary Tales into her signature house since 2006 (if my history is right?)
-
Signing on for the first time since I saw the Purge announcement and caught up on the last 10 pages or so explaining what happened. I understand that Universal really didn't have a lot of choice in this matter but it still sucks to lose Scream for The Purge. Scream is one of the best slashers ever and I was really stoked for it. With it's cancellation, that might be the straw that stops me from attending this year.
So can anyone confirm if it was originally based on the show? If it was, why would A&D agree to it? The show is fucking awful and is a slap in the face to any of the movies. Seriously there is a reason it is rated as one of the worst shows on TV by sites like AV Club. Generic plot, horrible dialogue, terrible acting and awful characters. Even by MTV standards it is so bad in every possible way. I can't believe it was renewed for another season but teenagers watch stupid shows I guess. I couldn't continue after episode 3.So if everything that went down last week had to do with rights issues with the house being based on the movies vs the TV show, why would they have chose this property knowing full well that they couldn't do the movies beforehand? Did they think it would become a huge hit or something? I mean the writing was on the wall when everyone involved with the movies distanced themselves from it.
If the house was going to be based on the show then I'm happy that the Purge replaced it. But if it was going to be the movies, man what a bummer. So much potential with the original alone.
I just can't see A&D not knowing that they couldn't use stuff from the movies beforehand. No way would they waste an IP for the big anniversary on a show that was not guaranteed to be a hit. If they knew in advance they seriously should have chosen something else right when the rights holder said no. Now it's just a huge mess with marketing.
The Purge fits but it still feels like a wasted IP when we could possibly see it again next year for the 3rd sequel. I feel like maybe we could have gotten Crimson Peak or possibly something even better to replace this idea once they found out that the movie was off limits. It completely made sense in the leaked list because the original is a huge IP but no one wanted the show. It's ratings are nowhere near AHS which pulls around a 1.8 - 2.2 in the 18-49 demo. The last episode of Scream pulled a 0.3. To give everyone an idea how big TWD is, it regularly pulls 7.0 - 8.0 and even higher for season openings/finales. Plus that makes 3 properties repeating this year that have been at HHN very recently (TWD, AWIL & The Purge).
I don't know, overall like a lot of others, I'm just not that excited this year. The main house I'm looking forward to is Freddy vs Jason but I don't see it living up to the classic NOES house from a few years back. I doubt they did a new cue video like they did for Dreamwalkers. Besides that I'm really only looking forward to the return of the Body Snatchers.
Insidious will be cool to walk through but I hated the 3rd movie. The second has scenes that will fit really well into a house though.
I'm a huge fan of it and understand it being back but TWD this season isn't right for a house. The press didn't even mention Alexandria so I guess it's going to be based off the first half of the season minus the Atlanta scenes. Last years house was fun but I've been bummed about this property ever since it's return the second time around. Still kind of shocked AMC won't let the characters be used after how much money this makes them.
Not excited about the return of AWIL. I wasn't raving over the house like everyone else the first time around. It was good but I liked Halloween last year way better. I thought the Piccadilly scene in the original was hugely lacking scare actors so maybe they'll fix that? Not sure what else they can do with it. Once again feels like a waste of an IP.Anniversary House was forgettable the first time around so I hope this ones better. Alice has been done to death and I hate the 3D gimmick. That idea is better for something like Howl O Scream. Don't care about RUN either.
So I'm stoked about two houses and pretty meh on all the others especially at the price with Express Pass. All of that will amount to like $200 for a total of 8 minutes. I'm kind of on the fence about attending right now but don't want to miss Freddy vs. Jason. Losing Scream was big for me.According to some of the insiders on the forum, it was supposedly based on the movies

honestly if you do early entry and plan it out right you'll hit everything... but I'm starting to wonder how much money they spent on Jabawokeez I could not put my thumb on it earlier but it seems like this year's event has a big chunk of the budget missing. I mean we lost a maze, a scarezone, and VIP and the only thing we "Gained" is Jaba-f'cken-Wokeez.
I heard that a lot of the normal HHN budget was instead spent on Wizarding World of Harry Potter

should I tell them I'll call Gloria Allred
Yes, then give an exclusive interview with Vice about how it offends you that there's no VIP

I'm just disappointed this was not given an original maze full of elaborate Gothic Christmas-y/winter-y environments and scenery..

The studio/rights holders to the Scream franchise sound like a bunch of dicks Now I understand why Murdy in Hollywood wants nothing more to do with the Scream franchise.. It has nothing to do with the environments or whether or not Ghostface is still considered "serious horror" after being parodied in Scary Movie, He just doesn't want to put up with the Scream rights holders again, especially after the nightmare of dealing with them in 2011
-
Only in the implication that what they could replace it with would be similar to the marketability and revenue-generation of Scream.
American Horror Story?

I just realized if Terror Tram really sucks as it normally does, Triple T may beat me to it. I'll bet he's still mad at his dad, who is good friends with Murdy, for not letting him smoke a joint with his gf. He could smoke one and then smoke the Terror Tram.
I DID see TwoTonTick at ScareLA last Saturday near where Murdy and Chris were doing the post-HHN Panel meet and greet..

Murdy up in his office watching Freak's furry road ".....F##K This job"
Freak Yelling: "I live, I Die, I Ride Transformers again"
Okay, this NEEDS to happen on Terror Tram this year...

Maybe they're testing their horror-comedy waters to prepare for Ghostbusters next year? #silverlining
Ghostbusters would be cool and wasn't American Werewolf technically the first comedy-horror maze? It is a horror-comedy film..
-
If Scream is ultimately scrapped, wouldn't surprise me.. This was the same Scream franchise that gave Murdy a hard time out here in Hollywood and only limited him to using Scream 4 elements which is why we only had the Tram. I wouldn't be surprised if the real reason that Murdy isn't so keen on doing a proper Scream maze is because of the hassles of working with the producers/rights holders
-
Its my understanding that they cut the 7th maze to bring the tram back. Why the hell would it be between a maze and a show? They have nothing to do with each other.
They cut Rocky Horror in 2010 to make room for a 5th maze and Murdy's "reasoning" for not doing Bill and Ted last year was to make room for a 7th maze saying "People would rather have more mazes than shows"

Rumor has it that Murdy chose This Is The End because he was tired of not being able to get The Exorcist rights and that He figured that TITE was the closest he'd ever get

Umm "Maze Monitor" job has a description of "9/18-11/7"
So that confirms Nov. 7th last day?
That'd be awesome.. an extra weekend of HHN

HHN HAS to expand the team to improve the quality of the event.
They have to! But, at least keep Murdy as the figurehead/public face of the creative team.. Twitter, social media, interviews, convention panels etc..

Not to detract from 2015 speculation but someone tweeted Murdy saying they noticed a Creative Director position open and asked if Murdy was either retiring or expanding the team..

Unless there are some amazing reviews, I will absolutely skip this one. I know what the Jabbawockeez are about, but they still look like a Purge dance-crew. They don't even have spoken words in any of their acts, right? Ironic to see Universal mollify people with hypersensitivity to "sexual humor" with an androgynous troupe. What a wonderful world in which we live... Trust me - at the rate our society is devolving, the show line-up for HHN 2033 is going to be "Ow My Balls!" and "Ass" **.
I would have preferred Brian Brushwood or Dan Sperry myself, but I am predicting now that this Jabbawockeez show will be about as well received as Heckles and Twitch. At least it will suck bodies from the house lines.
I've been going to HHN since the very start. Anyone else remember seeing Penn & Teller in 1992 or the Kiss cover band in 1998?
** If you don't get the reference, check out Idiocracy on Netflix.
All of this is true, Zombieman.
and as a huge KISS fan, I would have LOVED to see the cover band HHN hired back in 1998.. Did they have the whole KISS show with the wall of amps, pyrotechnics, fog effects and laser lights?

What?! why did he not do it now? this is bonkers! The Hot Tub kill would of been cool! it's not like most of this maze has not been used yet, odd choice now I'm really getting the feeling they are pretending 09 did not happen....
Something tells me that Murdy has plans on taking us through Haddonfield again after this year..
-
Murdy said during the panel that he'd be interested in doing the Hospital scene from Halloween II in the future.. also, one big difference that no one has pointed out is the Smith's Grove asylum scenes from 2009 are not in this maze..
-
Murdy said no going back from 7 but the leaked list says only 6 due to the return of show programming and the Trams to the Backlot..
Ever stop to wonder though.. is Murdy being incredibly tight-lipped about yet another brand new maze venue that might be hosting the 7th maze?
-
It's not my cup of tea personally I think the notion of dance crews is lame but as stated at least it'll eat up crowds (as to how much who knows) I would of perfered something similar to B&T, Slaughter World, or Rocky Horror but hopefully this means I can take my time with mazes and rides.
Amen, Grind.. Bill & Ted, Rocky Horror, SlaughterWorld.. hell, even a Walking Dead stunt show in the WaterWorld theater would have been better.. ah well, it's best to give it a chance I guess..

Idk, that's probably why I get confused.
House of Horrors was Soundstage 13
