  1. Hopping on here to see what everyone is thinking. This was the year I was going to skip and for sure attend the 30th. I live in Canada and it gets costly to travel and especially if I bring my kids. Well I found cheap flights so now I have a scheduled trip! (kids are not attending HHN- don't worry)

I am excited for the rumors because I love the idea of more original than IPs. I just hope this isn't being treated as throwaway year from the higher up fiance ppl. They're riding on the success of stranger things and I *really* hope the other mazes will have a decent budget too! Maybe budgets were increased due to the success of last year?

An underwater maze sounds amazing!! Graveyard has so much potential too. Not sure about house of 1000 corpses.. anyone know what that is about?  Something creepy and  haunted would be awesome. There is also no Blumhouse from what I can tell.. I'd rather see another original.  I too am on the fence about ghostbusters but I do enjoy the comedic houses.. they're a little refreshingly different which mixes up nicely.

What is everyone thinking? Have the leaks been better controlled? I see no ideas for scare zones yet.

oh and PS- there better some great effects in these mazes. I have really enjoyed where they have been going with it- snow in the shining, the storm in poltergeist- wind and rain effects.. it was so good and really added to the experience. I really hope they continue with it.

  2. Wondering if you all feel construction is behind compared to prior years. Normally there would be a bunch of vlogs about park updates but I was watching Tim Tracker the other day and it sounded like even he was suprised by the lack of changes in the parks.

I just hope with the marketing is going, that construction and the builds are just going ahead like normal.

We are travelling from Canada and have already arranged our tickets-- just getting worried that this year is gonna be a mess. :/

As a married man with two kids I envy you.... I'd kill for 2 weeks on another country by myself!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto from a married woman with 3 kids!!

Husband and I were discussing the possibility of leaving the kids behind to go to HHN! One can dream but the kids doubt have it. We'd have to lie and say we were going to a conference.

My final opinion about all of this:

    Today sucked. Obviously. Big disappointment.

But I personally think Marketing's actions shouldn't affect our opinions of CREATIVE's work. I believe Creative's successes can make up for Marketing's failures once we enter the gates.

Bad Marketing does not equal a dead year. I think it's a very short-sighted way to look at things, to say it kindly.

That is very true. Maybe it just shows more division between departments and less communication-- maybe due to structural changes. I am grasping at straws but you're right-- all is not lost. One question-- who oversees this all? Wouldn't someone see this as a bad idea.

  5. Do you think they just don't have a budget this year? They messed up with VB and although a nice park they are getting bad reviews. 2 of the IPs they have a promoting a new season of a TV show as well as a new movie? They just can't put it all together because they are too busy with other things?

I think this is the lesson that's been learned today.

I mean, even people complaining about it on Twitter are entering the stupid sweepstakes. Some things never change.

i dunno-- i travel from canada (the land where i can't even enter the sweepstakes) and i wish i didn't buy my tickets. think i would have skipped out this year. oh well-- i am sure i'm a small part of their market that they probably don't care about us.

Well we're hoping the full reveal, but we don't really know. There's a mysterious countdown on the website that doesn't say what it's counting down to.

Thanks Scott- I wasn't sure if anymore news was pointing to more information being released. I remember when i signed up for that, the countdown seemed so far into the future and now we're almost here! My trip countdown in reaching the 40-mark. Crazy!! I wonder if Universal peeps are feeling the pressure too. Really only a month away now.

Shouldn't local store displays and stuff be arriving soon to sell tickets? It would be really interesting to know what happened with the reveals this year. A slow, steady stream of announcements (once every other week) seems like the most logical way to keep the hype train going. Most people that are not 1) already intending on going or 2) super fans that follows forums have probably totally forgotten that AHS and The Shining are coming because they were announced SO long ago without anything new. I would love to know what the ticket sales numbers are at today compared to this time last year when we basically had everything but originals.

Either this was a HUGE mistake on the Marketing team or some major IP's were not locked down securely enough to move forward with the announcement. Heck, I just saw on Twitter the other day all the permits to start construction. Either permits just took a while to show up online or they are really behind on some houses.

I am having issues even buying tickets-- getting the rush of fear passes and they keep telling me there is an internal error and they are getting IT to look at it. I have an annual pass and am trying to buy them with the discount. The rep has been very nice and opened a file to call back when they're ready-- but I am very surprised as that is a lot of lost revenue if they don't even have all the tickets

I still haven't gotten an email. It's been 3 days! I checked my emails, junk email, and other mails and nothing. I know it's probably because they got slammed with sign ups, but I was wondering if some people still haven't gotten an email yet?

Didn't get one either. I wonder if it is because I'm in Canada? I had to fit my whole mailing address on one line.

We have a room called The Asylum, and we promote the fact that we can alter the "scare" level from 1-10 based on what the customer wants.  We've got some good effects in that room, not to mention an extremely immersive set design (we had one of our friends from Universal A&D help us with the set, so I'm not joking or bragging).  We also have one called The Ringmaster which isn't scary like the Asylum, but it's creepy.  If you go to our website and watch the videos, you'll see.  Haunt fans love our rooms.  It would be great to have our Nightmares family come and play.

We were at the same conference and same tour.  It's possible we talked to each other and didn't even know it.

Owner to owner - if you want to play our room when you're in town, please private message me

THANK YOU Alice!  You really should play The Ringmaster at least.. you could handle it.. maybe. :)

Same goes if you're ever in Toronto!!

I'd love to check it out. We're travelling with our kids and are already planning to leave them for 1 evening for HHN so I'll need to see what we can do about them but it would be really fun!!

I am sure we met and talked.. hahah. small world!

We travel from Chicago for multiple HHN weekends every year.  We've been doing this since 2005.  It is, hands down, my favorite event and my favorite time of year.  We are fortunate to have a family condo in the area which allows us to do the multiple thing.  FYI - for those traveling, if you ever want to do multiple weekends like that, I would highly recommend looking into renting a condo in the Kissimmee area (only 20 mins to the park).  You can get them VERY cheap at that time of year.

Just had to comment about Hell's Gate - it's a GREAT haunt.  The guy who owns/runs it is a friend of mine, and he's one of the smartest, kindest, weirdest people I know.  I just love him.  We were thrilled when Hell's Gate finally opened as it has been a labor of love for him for a few years.  He also runs Statesville Prison haunt which is about 10-15 mins drive from Hell's Gate.  I would highly recommend both haunts.

If you'd like another scary escape room when you come in for HHN, please come visit us at www.dare2escape.com  I dare you to play The Asylum.  We are going to be running discounts for all our Nightmares friends during HHN.  This invite goes to ALL of you.

oooo.. why thank you! i'd love to check it out. we're ER owners too and we must run in the same circles then... we toured hellsgate with the last escape room conf. in chicago. had the pleasure of meeting some zombie army ppl. you can certainly tell what they were doing with a life long dream and a labour of love. it was so inspiring! we're working on a new escape room facility in Toronto and plan to open Sept/Oct.. therefore not much time for fun but we made the last minute decision to go to HHN because after all this work, it's nice to have a little something to look forward to.

  12. So what is the latest speculated/leaked list for Orlando? I can't keep up with the posts :)

I honestly don't see them spending much of the AHS maze inside the Coven season. There is simply not enough "horror" elements they can pull from that season. It's (imo) the weakest season by a long shot. I hope they spend the most time with the Roanoke season because there are so many things they can put into the house. I am SO jealous that USH is getting an entire maze based off that season alone.

The one good thing is that it is going to be the biggest house again. I'm hoping it's even bigger than last years! While last years was big, it didn't feel nearly as long as "Jack Presents 25 Years". That house seemed like it was never going to end which was great because by the time I got near the end, my nerves were shot and any little movement made me jump.

That's good because I tried to watch coven and fell asleep. I think I'll just skip that season and go right into Roanoke. Too bad because I like witches.. but Coven seemed more like a teen drama to me.

We have escape rooms, I don't really know if we have any scary ones. I haven't done any escape rooms in general. How are they?

Yeah most definitely. Let's start with one of the easiest, the saw house. What potential traps do you think we'll see, and which are you looking forward to seeing the most?

I play a lot of them and I own a venue too. I quite enjoy them so I could totally geek out about this more than I should. But if you haven't played one- do it!! Just read reviews to find a good one and maybe try a few as they vary. Try to find a fun group of friends and enjoy!! it's a fun and immersive game. It's great to interact with friends, collaborate and just use your wits for a change (no uncle google needed).

I guess we can guess who the main icon is if this year has a medley of the unused icons; or who knows maybe they all have equal representation

I'd be down for that. At least it's different and leads to some interesting merchandise.

We may change to September. If we do I will let you know. I'm booking the tour as soon as it goes on sale. I'm in agreement with you. It's different when everyone is a fan.

oh ya-- lemme know and if you're happy to have a couple extra haunt fans tag along.

There's one that I really enjoy that's in Dade City, it's called Screamageddon. It's a great local haunt, I make it a yearly thing. They've got a couple of full contact houses, only if you choose to though. I would suggest it to anyone.

I am still trying to figure out how to make touring haunts a full time job.. maybe one day when i am retired it can be my hobby. We did make it to the haunt show in St. Louis this year.. quite a fun event. You guys are lucky to live in the US where it's a more common thing. We don't have many in Canada... but we have scary escape rooms so that is at least something.

The best single haunt I've been to is probably Bennett's Curse. The Headless Horseman in NY was also great. Nightmare New England isn't too shabby either. One thing that is better about haunts in the New England area is that we have actually have a fall season. There is something about the leaves turning and the cool crisp air that makes that time of the year especially good for haunts.

yes I do find Orlando weather a bit unbearable in Sept. We're in Toronto so we get the autumn weather too.. however sometimes it gets too cold and cuts the season short.

We fly down from south of Boston, MA each year. There is only 2 reasons we started going. 1. A while back my uncle who lives down there told me about it. 2. We try to go to as many Halloween haunts as possible and it had to be done. We've hit literally haunt (big/small) in MA, CT, RI, NH, and even a couple big haunts (MD, NY). Although there are single haunts that are better than HHN houses, I don't think anything matches up to HHN as a whole package deal. Not to mention all the stuff you can do in that area during the day.

Oh cool! Now you have to tell my some of your favourites. We went to Hellsgate in Chicago last year and were quite impressed. There was one that just started in our city and it wasn't bad either. I'd love to do a tour of some other haunts although I lean towards enjoy more of a gothic/scary atmosphere compared to gory. I think I like HHN because it's so immersive-- having the whole park (or most of it) involved just makes it so much fun. Plus we are theme park people as well so it's just a great trip overall for us.

I don't see them going another week without announcing something, if they don't drop something within 2 weeks max. If it goes past that then you can start to worry a little bit. You're traveling a long ways to come to this event and really their big announcements help the people in your situation choose if you're going to spend the money to come. I can honestly see how it could be stressful.

Ya- it's a big investment. We stopped going for many years and a part of me regrets not keeping it up. However, it's not very realistic to expect to go every year. We still have our APs so we wanted to sneak in another trip before they expire. We don't have anything close to this in Canada and I have travelled to other haunts but I still enjoy HHN.

It's no secret.... marketing pretty much sucks. I think just about everyone expected an announcement this week and now that all we got is a tiny website update everyone seems to be acting like the sky is falling. C'mon ladies and gents, we just need to suffer for another week or two (or three). No big deal, right?

Marketing definitely doesn't seem to care at all about us travellers who come from across the country (or from another country). If I hadn't already been to the event, there is no way in hell I could justify booking a trip around what has been presented thus far. I'm not too worried though, regardless if I've enjoyed every house or disliked scare zones (2012), I've always had a good time. They'd have to do something pretty epic (in a bad way) for it to truly suck at this point.

RIP Tours aren't booking yet? I booked the Unmasking the Horror Tour even though you can't book it using the website (lame). Did you call 1-866-604-7556 and ask?

No didn't call but I guess I can try that. Online it says 'coming soon'. Where are you traveling from? I am from Canada and it isn't well known here at all.. I guess it has always been like that. We only found out about the event when we on our trip and it just happened to be HHN season. We bought a ticket and were pleasantly surprised at how amazing it was. That was many, many years ago but still if I didn't know about it first hand, I wouldn't plan a trip around it either.
