I've had a blast listening to all the podcasts tweaking their top ten lists.

What seems to be consistent from these were:

    • A lot of high praise for this year.
    • Monsters & Graveyard Games are at the top of everyone's list.
    • HOTC was much better than everyone expected - even if it wasn't their cup of tea
    • Yeti was quite high on lists.
    • Stranger Things seemed to disappoint.
    • HUGE polarization on Nightengales, KKFOS, GB, and Depths.  You loved it or hated it.
    • Us seemed to grow on people, to where it was high on lists.
    • AoV did not disappoint like last year.  Complete redemption.
    • This year's Fallen award seems to go to Vanity Ball.  A lot of people said it started strong but just petered out over the season.
    • There doesn't seem to be a single soul that was even indifferent to the Lagoon show.  It is an instant classic which puts a crapload of pressure on the pour soul who programmed it.  I'd get started on 30 now if I was him/her...  How do you even match it, let alone top it?

Anyone else who went at both start and end of the season want to comment on changes?  Effects that went missing?  Houses/zones that improved or declined?

I also heard something mentioned by exactly one podcast that conflicted when all else I heard.  That was that Graveyard Games was the last house that was directed by Mike Aiello.  I thought Charles and Patrick each took 5 and directed them.  If it was Mike behind the scenes - what a way to go out, right?

What podcasts did you listen to? Always interested in some new HHn podcast finds

Based on your comment I went to youtube and looked for another video.  And, you are right.  There were a lot more effects than in the first video I saw.  I guess maybe the effects were not on during that first show.

Still, it looks to be as expected.

Yea not much different than expected. I see it being something kinda cool to watch once for the 15 minutes it lasts and that is about it

I just spent 10 minutes of my Saturday morning watching the YouTube video of the Lagoon Marathon of Mayhem.

I have really made a massive mistake here.   I've watched this without my wife and I am going to have to sit through this again.

When I speculated, back in August, that this would be a 100% dud, a commercial for the houses, and it would not provide any additional content.....I was only slightly wrong.  It is not a commercial for the houses, per say.  There is a scene of some classic monsters, but the rest is what looks like old VCR info projected onto the facade of buildings and music, lights, and water jetting into the sky.

Truly it is horrifying that I may have to watch this again.

You must have seen a pretty horrible recording if that is what you got out of it

Just got the press release that all tickets are on sale now, but the website hasn't been updated.

EDIT - The site is slowly updating with ticket info. I'm guessing a noon launch (about 10 minutes from now). It also says Rush of Fear (the pass I usually get) is for the first 17 nights which is all the dates in September. Probably means it's gonna be a lot more expensive.. :(

How do you get on the list to receive press releases? We have  a podcast that the last episode was listened to by 77,000 people. I was hoping that would be enough to get us the press releases and maybe even eventually an invite to media day

  6. Off topic but if anyone on this forum is at the event this year and sees two guys wearing “Nick and Jason’s Excellent Podcast” shirts come up to us and say hi and tell us you are from the forum. We decided we are going to have special gifts for forum readers since we have been enjoying this forum for a few years now.

It's no longer set up like that on the website.  Also, I guess it all depends on if you consider Universal Monsters an IP or Original (it's a little bit of both).

Interesting. I haven’t checked the website in a while. Someone asked that exact question on Twitter to Aeilo and he said it is considered an IP house. I love the fact it is considered one of the IP’s cause to me it feels more like an original so basically in my head we get one more original this year than I was expecting

Plus if it was considered and original it would make the split even more skewed and 6 originals 4 Ips. However if it is not set up like that on the website any more then my point is moot

  8. I could be completely wrong but I just got a sense that they said it was during a drought as an excuse for why the gladiator games were going on for so long that the ground was drenched in blood. Therefore attracting the Nightingales. Thatvwas a very superstitious time so having the games go nonstop and sacrificing that many gladiators to the gods seems like something they could have done in hopes for the gods blessing them with rain.

Because they didn't spend a ton of money and years of development on making the VR look awesome?

Honestly it seems like you're trying to find any reason to dismiss everything this event does as a dumb cash grab while you're in the middle of handing them your money over and over again.

    Welcome to his M.O.

But due to ADA rules, they can't require proof to get one. So you can pretty much give any reason why you can't stand in line, and get one.

Yea so you can pretty much lie if you want to be an absolutely horrible human being and lie to take advantage of a law made  to help the disabled

I'll keep it short since I don't want to ruffle any feathers. Experience the event, then make your critiques.

How exactly do you expect us to walk through an entire event , 9 houses, 5 scare zones and enjoy it when really all we can think about is just how plain the billboard is we saw once two weeks ago?

Let's hope it stays the whole event. Someone always has to ruin everything for everybody else because they got "offended." I don't know why these people can't just look away and ignore it. It didn't physically hurt them so why even complain. Those are the people that don't need to come to the event.

I have two words for you that created these people that think everything has to cater to them....... Participation trophies
