  1. There better not be any Edwards. I would mock the Edward scareactors mercilessly. And it would border on torment and torture.

Anyways, Edward isn't a real vampire. He belongs nowhere near HHN.

I haven't even seen any of the "Twilight" movies, but from what I've heard and seen on commercials, he's about as un-vampire like as they come. Seriously, could he look more anemic? I mean come, he's a freaking vampire.

I see why this legion is necessary, but vampires have always been my least favorite monster/Halloween character. I guess because they always seem to be just kind of there, not really super threatening. I can't be scared by someone who dresses better than I do and in the case of most female and male vampires, wears more makeup than I do.

  2. Why would you want to run through that? That sounds AWESOME! I'd spend as much time in there as I could. Of course, I'm also weird...

This is why you and I will get along famously...every time we hit that room room in DE with the mannequins and live scareactors mixed, I made it a point to walk as slow as possible...regardless of how many people were pushing us from behind...I wanted to enjoy that room to its fullest extent :)

I'm very curious to see if the strobe and light elements that made DE so successful will prove to do the same for this house.

  3. I think it unlikely they are icons as they have not revealed any in depth information about them at this point. I think we'd know about it by now if they were. We are in September and so close to the event that I am starting to fear we won't be seeing an icon this year.

That and all the billboards thus far showcase houses, i.e. TWD and Silent Hill. I would think if there was going to be a designated icon...even The Iniquitus, they would be showcased.

I would have to disagree... its pretty obvious this is our backstory for the event. So yes, The Iniquitus would basically be the iconic masterminds in control. Look at it this way.... you accept this over-all integrated story of them & their legions... or the TWD is our event theme like it said on the survey..

The Iniquitus have basically been pushed aside like The Usher.

For me, the Iniquitus are more of a back story character to explain the scarezones. They may be who are in control of the legions, but unless something changes dramatically, they are not close to what I could consider the definitive icon for this year...in the sense that we are not going to see television or print ads based around them.

And as far as the Usher goes, I always viewed him as a friend of the Director who really, really, really so badly wanted to be an icon. He asked the Director to put in a good word for him and milky eyed self, but in the end his creep factor was lacking severely.

When it comes down to it, I don't care who or what is or isn't the icon this year...it could be a troop of rabid Girl Scouts and I wouldn't give a rats ass. :)

  4. I'm very curious to see this whole zone in its complete glory...I think this is going to appeal to all of us who really dig that traditional Halloween vibe.

LOL Lyn! Spider webs and little plastic spiders EVERYWHERE!

I know right? Come on...with the budget Universal has, the Dollar Store is the mecca of decor stores.

Plastic only, please! I'm more than a little trepidatious for what may be awaiting in Alice's place for that reason! Rats are cuddly and adorable, snakes are awesome and amazing. Spiders? Peein' again.

Rats, fine with 'em. Snakes, fine with 'em. Hell, even spiders, yes, fine with 'em. But if you put silverfish in a maze, I would go freaking bat shit crazy.

  5. For me, the entire point of this house is to walk in the footsteps of the characters of the show through some of the most iconic scenes from the first two seasons. That being said, having zombies in the house is kind of necessity. I don't really know how they would use any of the characters to begin with...unless they had dioramas set up and they were battling with zombies, etc. But to me, watching someone else avoid the zombies isn't quite as much fun as trying to avoid them myself. :)

  6. I'm headed to the park today to pick up the passes I was going to pick up last week. I'll try to do a once-around to see what's there and what may be new.

I so wish I would've known you were going to be out there today...Eric and I were out there too!

I was happy to see Kid Zone in person with all the jack-o-lanterns. Didn't see a ton of additional construction, did notice that they are working on the queue line at The Simpsons, have half of it boarded up and ready to go.

  7. We walked through Kid Zone today and at least we get our jack-o-lanterns in the trees over there along with some of the larger stand up ones too with a few crows to boot.

There are what look like mausoleum entrance doors close to MIB with more crows too.

This is what annoys me about the park in general. They'll make SOME effort for Xmas & Mardi Gras, but apparently HHN is supposed to count as our "halloween decor" :chainsaw:

It'd be nice to see tombstones in the grassy area near the lagoon back by MIB. cobwebs on the windows/door frames. Giant spiders. Fall leaves on the light poles. MORE jack-o-lanterns.... just decorate the park. /rant

Amen to every word of that...I'm just so old school when it comes to Halloween decor that it pains me to not see more of it at a Halloween event! I always thought with all the row house facades it would be neat to see jack-o-lanterns in the windows of a few of the houses. And of course, just more outright Halloween oriented decorations throughout the park.

Agreed 100%! My guess is that because HHN costs so much to operate, they focus more on that than general park dressing. But I'd love to see some general decorating as well, along with some spooky characters walking around the park. During the day, you can't even tell it's October if it weren't for the bit of HHN SZ dressing.

EXACTLY! You walk through the park during Mardi Gras or Christmas and the amount of decor reflecting both is readily apparent. They just need to hit up the Dollar Store, think of all the decorations Universal could buy there...LOL

  8. My check in time is at 4:30 and I would like to show up but unless it's pulled back to 4pm. There's no way, I'll just scare you inside.

Unfortunately, it looks like there is a good chance I may not be attending opening night anyways....so as far as pushing the time back, I'll update to 4pm on the starter post on this thread.

That way anyone who has a call time of 4:30 can stop by before heading in for their shift. :)

  9. Yes! Hush and Boogey, your ideas are awesome! This is something they can for sure pull off nicely. Though, the thing I hope to see the most is maybe old-fashioned trick or treaters. Those old Halloween constumes are so chilling and eerie. Overall, I think this section will have a nice assorment of characters.

I think back to the costumes that were available when I was younger (we're talking the 70's here) they were the ones with the plastic face masks that had just the openings for your eyes, nostrils and mouth...looking back, those were creepy as hell. I agree, the old costumes it looks like they'll be using in this area have an extra special "oh shit" factor to them!

  10. I will most likely already be at Finnegan's by that time, but: 1. If not, definitely will swing by; 2. Otherwise, if you're at the get together, I figure you'll be at the event, too. So - either way - see ya real soon!

Kathy, we will definitely be seeing one another and wreaking havoc together.... :)

Hmm.. Attempted to attend this last year to meet some fellow HNN'ers did not go that well. I went solo last year for opening weekend and was looking forward to meeting some fellow Horror nighters but when I went and itroduced myself as everyone else seemed to know everone else let's just say after a 10 minutes of being ignored I just decided to head to the lines into the park. But I guess I can try again this year would still like to meet some fellow horror nighter's.

I try to say "hello" to everyone who comes, which can be a challenge, but I attempt it. If you see me, please introduce yourself as I'd love to meet you!!!

If I am there that weekend, I will be there!

Kat, I've got my fingers and toes crossed that you will be there!!! :D

  11. I'm not worried about the streets at all. Hell, I remember when there was absolutely no theming at all; just a ton of fog! THAT was awesome. You had to walk through slowly with your hands straight out to make sure you didn't run into anyone.

    Fog was the theme....LOL

To this day I am still completely in love with the original Midway of the Bizarre. So much fog it took you forever to walk through Amity simply because you couldn't see your hand in front of your face and you could hear the screams of guests the entire way across the lagoon.

  12. This is the section I am most excited for. I have always had a fascination with traditional Halloween, and from the constrcution pics posted in the Construction forum, the set up for it seems the most promising to me, of the ones poseted of course.

I'm the same way, traditional Halloween has always appealed to me. Give me jack-o-lanterns, trick or treaters, ghosts, grave stones, witches, black cats and the like and I'm a happy camper. And what's odd is it's so rare to see any traditional Halloween oriented decorations or concepts integrated into events like HHN. Although I have to say, they've really improved upon this area over the past several years. Give me the tree pumpkins that are up in Kid Zone every year and you've made me happy!

  13. And what it is is an event with TONS of love, care, and creativity put into it, no matter if it's IP or not.

We get NEW houses every year. None of them are the same from one year to another. We could be like BGW's HOS, which don't get me wrong is a great event, but this year 5 of the 6 houses are the same as last year. Yea, there will be a few changes inside them...but 5 of the 6 are still the same thing, in the same place, with the same theme. I don't think HHN fans realize how good they have it. This is one of the most well funded, creative events for a mass market that you can get.

    Exactamundo my friend...well put.

I'm not saying everyone has to love everything about the event. Everyone has their own opinion about what they like, what they want to see, etc.

Here's my thing (I'm going to get all philosophical on ya'll right about now):

    *Start of philosophical rant*

if you can afford to go to the event, then you are much better off than so many people are...you have discretionary income that you can do what you want with. You aren't worried about whether to buy groceries or pay the power bill...your concerned if the streets this year are going to be what you want them to be or the houses will be up to par with your standards. Sometimes when I read the heated arguments about certain aspects of this event, it makes me want to smack some heads together to get folks to realize that what they are fighting over is completely ridiculous.

So appreciate the event for what it is, like Parkscope said, something that is put together with a lot of love, care and a shit ton of work. It's fun, nothing more, nothing less. Appreciate the fact you can log online, check out this website, the HHN website, attend the event, etc.

    *End of philosophical rant*

  14. Can I ask what the big deal is if there are IP houses? Is the only reason people dislike them because they aren't "original"? Sure, I love the original ideas too but this is UNIVERSAL STUDIOS. IPs put you inside the movies, or in this year's case the TV show, music, and magic act. That's what the Studios is all about! If this was another park like the Six Flags chain or even HOS, then I can say that you have the right to complain about IPs over original creations... but this is Universal Studios, where you are supposed to "ride the movies"!

I'm not looking to get into any arguments, I just really want to know why there is such hatred for IP content...

A to the men my brother!

I'm in that rare percentage of fans that doesn't really care either way. IPs, originals, hybrids, in-breds, rednecks, who gives a shit? I go to this event to have fun, not dissect the content of each house.

It's a Halloween event. People need to learn to chill, relax and have a good time. It is what it is.

  15. The commercial makes me even more excited for this year...which I didn't think was possible.

I love the look on the guys face as he turns around from closing the gate and sees the all the various forms of the Dark Legions behind him. He looks like he's thinking "REALLY? You've GOT to be freaking kidding me."

LOVE, love, love it...short, sweet and to the point... :)

  16. OK. So far this is the rankings.

    1. Dark Legions: Traditionals #1 votes = 7

    2. The Iniquitus =2

    3. Dark Legions: Beasts =3

    4. Dark Legions: Warriors =2

    5. Dark Legions: Vampires =1

    6. Dark Legions: Walkers =1 (Our very own TWD fanatic, Hush)

    7. Dark Legions: Prisoners =0

The bottom shows a lot of the "Been there before" groups, while the top shows the newer, never seen that before groups, and I believe everyone's fondness of the 2008 "Skoolhouse" zone leads the Traditionals to the top. ( I loved those freaky Trick o' Treaters.)

You know the only thing that would make the Walker SZ better for me would be if they had a Shane zombie that you could pay more to chase and smack upside the head with a shovel :)

The Traditionals came in a very close second simply because I'm a complete and total sucker for all things, well, traditional Halloween. Jack-o-laterns, black cats, witches, ghosts, goblins, skeletons, grave stones...all that stuff to me just screams Halloween. I was happy to hear they busted out the tree pumpkins for this area!

  17. so fun-fact the zombie on the site is called "deer eater"

Guess that's not a vegan zombie then.

So do you guys think we'll see any of the characters from the show? Maybe a generic sheriff who's supposed to be Rick. Or Shane and Sofia. What do you guys think?

I'd like to think we'd see a few them scattered throughout the house...Rick, Shane, maybe even Merle? A zombie version of Sofia would be pretty damn cool.

I'd say it'd be neat to see Carl, but they could never use him because he wouldn't stay put, he'd keep on wandering in and out of the house.

  18. In a way, I'm glad that Universal didn't start marketing earlier this year. They typically start sooo early that by the time the actual event rolls around, I've become tired of hearing the radio ads and seeing the TV commercials.

With this being a holiday weekend, I bet we start to see and hear more about the event on all fronts...good way to amp up curiosity among the loyal fans who are used to seeing and hearing about it long before now and to drum up the interest of the rest of the general public.

  19. So I think it's safe to say the house will feature only classic Universal and open domain horror. I'd love to see Mother Bates though.

THAT my friend would be freaking amazing. She/he is one of those classic characters that just completely creeps me out. She/he really is a monster, just not the typical kind we associate as being such.

I really wish this was in a soundstage... the sets for this could be EPIC

The parade building has all the makings of a mini-soundstage...with this being somewhat of a signature house for Uni. If they didn't think this building would do the concept justice, they wouldn't have placed it there. :)

If they execute it correctly, I believe the classic Monsters presented in black and white could be fabulously eerie. Find yourself emerging in a B&W celluloid world, populated by 100 year old horror icons. Throw in some Murnau and Lang, and I'm set for life.

Oh, and I love the idea that Norman could be the one who comes home. Uni did demolish his home, after all. With Psycho also being a black and white treasure, I would not holler if Mother came to visit.

    ...erm, actually I probably would.

I was thinking the same thing Kathy! This is one of the few concepts that could pull off a completely B&W house devoid of all color. Norman and Mom can make an appearance, hang out, stay and have coffee even...because that would make me an equally happy camper.
