  1. I have to say that after reading the reviews from opening weekend, I have much brighter outlook than I did after leaving employee preview. We are going to head out next Thursday (Oct 4th) in hopes of the lines being short and the crowds being sparse since it's a weekday. The one house I will get through that night is TWD...if it kills me.

  2. I'm sayin! Lol

I've heard of this happening to plenty of people. They were "dragged" to the event by a friend or family member, voiced how much they really didn't want to go but are doing the friend/family member a favor by going. Then when they don't get invited, they pipe up with how much they wouldn't mind tagging along.... :)

  3. Had they given us amazing prosthetics and make up in this house, we all know for a fact that people would just find something else to complain about regardless. It would then be that the house lacked detail, there weren't enough scareactors, there weren't enough scenes from the show, etc. I'm not saying that everyone's complaints and suggestions aren't valid, because they are...but on the other hand, no matter what, people find fault with this event every year in some, way, shape or form...myself included.

I have only seen the walkers outside the house, haven't even had the chance to go in this one yet because of the horrendous wait time during employee preview. The walkers outside looked alright to me at a glance, I didn't study their make up closely at all...which is probably what Universal is thinking in terms of using masks. The average event goer isn't going to get up close and personal and analyze what the walkers look like...most people are walking through these areas fast to avoid getting the shit scared out of them.

  4. There is ash, it's possible it wasn't working when both of you walked through. There is also fog..look at the Welcome To Silent Hill sign next time you go through. There is only one part of the house that has the siren because that's the only scene where it makes any sense.

I saw ash as well as fog too on my walkthrough Saturday night.

Also heard the siren right as we entered the facade. Love the "fog prop" too next to the Silent Hill sign as Perse pointed out :-)

Yep I was very impressed by the ash effect in the house. and wondered how the floor didn't get slippery

All of the above comments make me a happy camper... :) If I've got sirens and ash, then the rest of the house is just a bonus in my book.

  5. Parking for Disney can be Free, it is pretty easy, you go to Downtown Disney and park there,

then you take a Disney bus to a Resort then a Bus to the park, free parking, your car is safe and secure, you just have to take two buses, but that beats paying those prices,

also if you can manage to get into a hotel you can do that as well, but Downtown Disney is a sure way to do it

That's one of the few parks where you can easily get around paying to park, yet still park on property and know your car won't get towed... ;)

  6. I have a problem with theme parks charging for parking. To me it makes no sense that you pay out the nose for the ticket and then have to pay more money to park on their property (which typical is the most logical way to get to an establishment).

If a resturant did it you would scream bloody blue murder. But for some reason its ok for theme parks. At least the theme park goers should get it free.

Regardless, The AP is worth its price simply for that and admission. If they ever took free parking away I would cease to have an AP.

I'm not saying anyone enjoys paying for parking, especially at theme parks, but unfortunately it has become the norm. Trust me if it wasn't for Eric and I both being employees and parking for free, we would by the AP just for the free parking to use for our dinner trips to CityWalk.

But all things considered, again, as much as people are willing to pay for tickets to HHN, merchandise, food/drinks, etc. parking is just another cost that I would think most people would factor in.

I remember the good old days when parking at all the major theme parks, Disney, Uni, Sea World and Busch Gardents, was free. I've yet to understand the concept behind charging for parking, expect for the sheer monetary factor.

If we're taking several cars and we've only got 1 AP for parking, we have that one car go ahead and park and have the rest of the cars wait in the drop-off/pick-up area. Once parked, whoever has the AP goes and gets in one of the cars waiting and goes and parks it using the AP. Repeat until all cars are parked.

Now THAT'S how to get the most use out of your AP right there... :ninja:

  7. I love this house design. It just feels so old and run down... To me, a classic haunted house. :)

If it evokes that old classic haunted house feel, then I'm looking forward to seeing this one even moreso than before.... :)

  8. 1.yes

    2.no

I heard the siren but kinda faintly,

I did not see any ash at all, or any for for that matter,

they did everything backwards this year, Gothic has a lot of fog this house doesn't really have any

Thanks for the heads up! :) Although I'm sad to hear that the siren isn't the prevalent sound in the house given the fact it is such a major part of the creep factor of the movie. (Well for me, the only creep factor...)

Strange about the fog too, again given that in the movie, fog was the constant weather factor of Silent Hill.

  9. What I don't understand is if your willing to fork over money for a ticket to HHN, which is pricey ($88 plus tax for one night) unless you have some kind of discount, what is $15 to park your car? Something tells me people spend at least 3 times that on drinking once they get inside.

Like Armando said, if it's that big of an issue, wait and head over after 8pm when the price goes down to $5.00.

  10. So I've been dragging my bff to HHN since 2000 (that's when we met, in high school). As the years go by, I've been getting the feeling that she's pretty much over going to HHN and definitely just goes to please me (which I really appreciate).

Last year and this year I found other people to go with, and told her she was off the hook both times.

Guess who asks me when I'm going this year, and that she might be interested in going with me anyway?:lol: (She said she felt like she was missing out. Mwahahahaha!)

You have brainwashed her so perfectly that she doesn't even realize it..... :)

  11. For anyone who says "they dont have time" for the makeup is wrong. They have plenty of time, thats why scareactors have call times. They get there at a certain time to get in there costume, makeup whatever so they can go on set. You have more extensive work to be done, then you'll need to be there earlier.

Now I have to say, from someone who has worked the event, the call times afforded to scareactors don't truly allow for overly elaborate make up. If your call time is 4:30 and your house opens at 6:30 that gives the makeup artists two hours...which for elaborate FX make up is not a great deal of time at all, especially for a large amount of people.

That being said, they could've taken that time and really put together some amazing make up effects to utilize on a smaller group of walkers and left the remaining ones use the masks. TWD house and the supposed large number of walkers outside, I don't think it would be feasible to do make up on each and every scareactor which is probably why masks are being used instead.

I have to say I was surprised at employee preview that more time and effort wasn't put into the walkers make up, especially since this is one of the big houses that has been marketed heavily. And from the sounds of things their look didn't change over opening weekend and they have continued to use masks. Guess we can hope that might change, maybe we'll start to see more elaborate make up over the next few weeks.

  12. I'm a fan of the show and I generally enjoyed this house. I thought for the most part the zombies looked good. It was a little underpopulated the first time we went through last night, but the second time was better. I'm looking forward to going through this one again tonight.

This is the one house that come hell or high water, I will see before the end of this event... :) Glad to hear a fellow TWD fan enjoyed it so much!

  13. Seems like your guys Preview night is much more crowded than ours. :o I thought preview night was the least busiest day for HHN?

No, preview night is usually one of the busiest. You've got Universal employees, third party employees, friends and family members...it's a shit ton of people...LOL

Also the lines for the bars were horrible. In KZ there is a bar across from a food tent and the lines were crossing each other, it was difficult to get through it all. The bar line outside P&T/AC exit was across the walk way too. At one point the line in front of Silent HIll/Monsters (bar) was going across the road and there was a fight. They really need to get the lines in control...add ropes or something like the regualr stands have, or it will be a nightmare.

The lines for the bars were EASY 6 people across and 10 people deep. The line for the bar in front of Silent Hill/Monsters Cafe was a MAJOR clusterfuck, you couldn't tell where one line started or the other ended...trying to just walk through it was a challenge.

I have no problem people expressing their opinion of the preview. I just don't thinks it's fair to base a whole event on the performance of a preview that for years is never at %100, meant to test out the event for tweets to perform, and is not officially not a event night. If you have issues with the preview by all means let us know but wait until the event opens before making a opinion on the whole event.

I don't think any of us are basing the entire events success on employee preview. What you also have to remember is preview is usually a week out before opening night, so sure, tweaking things is easy. Preview this year was one day removed from opening night, you'd think with the two dates being so close many issues would've been ironed out already.

I'm not by ANY MEANS saying the event is going to suck completely based on my experiences at EP. I hope that everyone who goes has an amazing time. However, our night at preview was easily the worst of the past 5 years.

And you also have to remember that many of us have been attending this event for decades, going numerous nights each year. We have seen how great preview can be, so to see it as the all out clusterfuck it was Wednesday night definitely made me wonder how the remainder of the event will run.

Everyone need not take our mere opinions so seriously. Hell what WE all might think are horrendous lines, you all might find bearable. What we consider lackluster streets, you all might find absolutely amazing. It's all about perspective.

  14. That seems incredibly unfair and short sited based on a PREVIEW meant for employess. The whole point of last night was to find what does and does not work.with the event and fix it before the GP see it. I'm not reading the reviews because I don't want to know till I go. But anything can happen. Bars can be moved, Street experience will be fully staffed in the actual event, and houses can be tweaked.

If fact, I don't form a full opinon on the event till I've experienced it twice. So, once I've been Friday and Saturday, I will review it. But Cmon... the event sucks based on a rehersal? That's jumping the gun a bit don't you think?

I think we are all just being honest with our opinions from last night. I'm not going to sugar coat it and say it was amazing. I've been to a ton of employee previews and this one was by far the worst. Ever.

For everyone who is going, I hope they have an amazing time. For me, personally...again, this is MY opinion, there's going to be have to be a LOT of changes made for things to improve.

Kind of disappointing to hear how bad EP was, especially in regards to the street experience. I mean I had a feeling it would be not be perfect, but it sounds like this new concept is a complete disaster (or at least in the way they went about implementing it this year.)

I know it was just EP, and things are not completely ironed out yet, but do you guys think that there is any way to improve it, or is it kind of too late to save this?

I'm sure improvements can be made, but like I said above, there are going to have to be a LOT of changes made for that to be so. With EP being so close to opening night, I would have figured last night would be a major dress rehearsal...because every other year there is usually a week between EP and opening night.

Here we go again, everyone doubting universal, everything will come together

We aren't doubting them, we are just stating our experiences from last night. I hope for the sake of everyone who goes that it does come together and everyone has a great time.

  15. I can assure you... there are NOT "more" bars. There is infact LESS. Trust me, if anyone would know, it is me.

And their placement is awful. especially the one shoved right next to the photo-thingy next to Disaster across from Lombards. You come through Amity & BAM! There is a wall of people... which is a line for the bar. Genius idea.

They really need to take a step back from Transformers & get that new "london" waterfront finished so there is more space for guests by doing away with that construction wall.

Same goes for the placement of the bar adjacent to the entrance of the soundstage house at music plaza. WHO thought up THAT mess?!

  16. Why was it so hard to get into the park? Just crowds and disorganization?

Crowds and the fact that the security company they hire to man the metal detectors works at a snails pace.

And mind you, they had EVERY arch at the entrance open with two metal detectors per arch, so they were working at maximum capacity in regards to open entrances.

Disorganized is a "nice" way of describing the clusterfuck that was last night :)

  17. Easily the worst employee preview of the last 5 years.

We waited almost an hour to even get into the park and then were greeted by 60 to 75 minute wait times for houses, the streets were completely underwhelming, while the crowds were completely overwhelming. We were home by 10pm.

Didn't see a single house, this "no safe zone" street experience...yeah, about that.

Unless a shit ton changes, this year is going to go down as a completely unorganized mess. All I can say is, make paying guests wait almost an hour to even get into the park and see what kind of hell they raise.

  18. I am expecting a room full of scareactor nurses and dummies all still and not moving until you approach. The the scareactors will move but until you do you won't know real from fake. Now that would be a good scare.

The Silent Hill version of Dead Exposure optical illusion....I like the way you think my friend! :)
