I heard on (I think the Scarezone) podcast that they were contemplating a specific IP.

So, what they are supposedly hashing around is having the new show be - wait for it - based on SNL.

When I heard that, my first reaction was - Why?  What's the point?  And I'm still not totally accepting of the idea.

The supporting arguments included (not saying I agree or disagree with any of these):

    • B&T has an aging fanbase; kids have no idea who they are (assuming we don't ever see a B&T 3)
    • B&T never had anything to do with Halloween other than having Halloween in the title.  Were it not for the time travel phone booth, B&T show would probably have never been.  The time travel gave the writers the ability to create new situations, locations, encounters, etc.
    • B&T had become largely dependent on roasting celebrities and IP not owned by Universal.  Legal is getting tired of having to deal with it.
    • SNL is a Comcast property
    • SNL well known by target audience.  The Sean Spicer opener from 2017 was basically an SNL opener itself - right down to the "Live from Orlando...".  It had a YUUUGE response.
    • SNL evolves year to year, and the show can likewise evolve
    • Skits can take place in any location, time period.  One skit doesn't have to justify any other.
    • It replaces a comedy show with a comedy show, not a dance troop, magician, etc.
    • B&T could appear in a skit within the show
    • Opportunity for a live band
    • Opportunities for actual SNL guest stars and even celebrity guest stars to appear
    • SNL seems to have caught lightning in a bottle with David S. Pumpkins
    • Standalone skits may be easier to edit/swap out than story arc (like last year's music festival getting scrapped)

So what do think about SNL as a replacement for B&T?

I'd be okay with it. I admittedly have not watched Bill and Ted in years. I remember thinking it was great in my teens but it slowly turned into something for me to just sit for a while.

idk I imagine they would use that on a new show, but I'm kinda new to the event, what do the veterans here think will happen show-wise this year?

There's chatter that they're currently looking for a current IP that could create a Bill and Ted-like show. I think they've got their hands full with so many other things to announce, however. I wouldn't be surprised if we see HHN announcements come late this year.  Hopefully they don't ditch the live entertainment aspect completely, however.

"had it to ourselves"... I wish Orlando had that possibility. The only way I could imagine that happening would be if someone literally sprinted across the park when it 1st opened and maybe was 1 of the 1st groups to enter. Once it's dark out, it would have to be an apocalyptic rainstorm to even have a chance to have a house to ourselves (even then it would be doubtful). It must be nice to not have lines now and then. I've never witnessed anything like that in my past 6 visits to Orlando.

We used to get it like that all the time -- before early arrivals. Right as the park opened, we'd often be the first people through a few of the houses. Then right before closing, we'd get it that way again. Those days are long gone now, though.

Personally, I miss the really old scare zones that weren't crammed with people. It was just lots of fog and tons of scareactors. It was damn near impossible to see.

As someone who did go and did the house more than a few times due to the short line, I second this statement. It was just very reliant on timing. The first time we went in, we hit all the resets. Second time around, we had the house to ourselves and it was a ton of fun. Third time, we had it to ourselves with the exception of a group of middle aged adults behind us and THEY got hit with the scares which made it funnier for us. It wasn't flawless by any means, but it wasn't the worst either.

Judging by only the video I found on Youtube, it looked like a pretty fun house to me.

  5. I'm curious to see how this how they pull this one off considering much of the film (specifically the scary moments) takes place in one bedroom. I have hopes for the house, however. They've always found ways of being creative.

  6. 1. Blizzard - Body Collectors is still the most frightening house I've ever been through.

    2. Run III - I remember enjoying the original and loved the gore in the second. I'm excited to see what they do.

    3. Freddy vs Jason - Big fan of both of the movie franchises and just find Freddy to be incredibly scary.

    4. Alice - A fan of the originals and can't wait to see what they do with it.

    5. Insidious - Could make for a rather freaky house.

    6. Anniversary House - I'm sure I'll enjoy revisiting scenes from the past, but it's difficult to get super excited over something you've already experienced.

    7. AWIL - ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS HOUSE, but it was only two years ago.

    8. The Purge - Preferred Scream but am okay with this.

    9. The Walking Dead - Unfortunately, I was never a fan of the show or any of the houses.

The great thing about HHN is the houses I usually am least excited for, end up at the top of my list by the end of the event. Can't wait until September 18th!
