  1. For everyone looking to get one last look at HHN this year, the Orange County history center is having an exhibit called "The Serious Art of Make Believe" from now until april 29th. It features tons of concept art, most of it seen, some of it not. It also has loads of props and costumes from the events, including this year as well as Grinchmas, Mardi Gras and more. There's also going to be a few chances to talk to the creative team, one intimate, the other not so much.

Check out pics, a review and more details here.

  2. As many may know...or not...Behind the Thrills is having the 2nd annual "Thrill Weekly Awards". It's a group of awards given out to the best of the theme park industry of that year. Unlike other events such as the Golden Tickets, the winners are chosen by the fans.

This week is the vote for King of Halloween. HHN 20 won it last year. The voting goes on until Sunday and currently HOS is in the lead.

If you'd like to vote for whichever haunt you think is the best....show your love and support for the haunt by clicking here.

Other fun polls are coming up including...site of the year.

  3. I seriously need to get my FFP and go more often. This year is really a blast with very minor exceptions. FEAR isn't used enough, but everyone else is used plenty to make up for it.

So speaking of being a blast, I was recently invited to Boo Camp at HHN and was allowed to be a Scareactor for a night. It was too much friggin fun. To see all of my pictures, and videos, click here.

  4. Okay...sure, you could be right. But then we have TJ on record, and on tape saying otherwise.(click here to hear that) He says and I quote "next year will be a scrapbook of years past...we'll see characters from all the other years come together".

Sounds like a reunion to me. People always read too much into these things, and in the end they always say "See I told you!" but rarely say "Yeah I was wrong".

But remember, HHN 19 was brought to you by the word "classic"

  5. To clarify:

In other news, I'm afraid Erik is correct, Midnight Syndicate probably WON'T be playing at HHN this year, although they do have a few surprises in store. According to the band themselves, they've been so busy with the movie and new music projects that they haven't had any timne to think out a live show. How would they play? As a two or three piece band, just standing there hacking away at computers to create the soundscapes? Or full-on, with orchestral backup and a choir...and maybe one of those big-ass pipe organs? They could actually go either way and make it work, but there would also have to be a strong visual component(especially if they chose the former approach) to consider. It would have to be a SHOW, you know? These guys are the Mannheim Steamroller of Halloween, they can't just step on stage and start banging out a Stooges or Ramones cover. (But wouldn't it be funny as all hell if they DID?) There would have to be video, and lighting effects, and fog, and lasers, and midgets in dresses, and dancing horses, and Lord knows what-all. It would quite a production, to be sure, but not one they have time for this year, I fear. But they DO want to play at HHN. "Eventually." says Ed. That's a direct quote. I'm disappointed too, but there it is.

I really wish I was rolling tape on that...I could have edited out the other part...but, off the record was just that.

It's really fun to speculate about it, but as someone told me before <ahem> Some ideas are just too crazy to work. The ones that make you scratch your head in disbelief when you hear them. "There's no way in hell they'll do that. It's too stupid!" you might say. Those are the ideas that usually stick and end up being brilliant.

Unless you can say it happened yesterday, it's a rumor.

  6. I kind of feel like Skynet when I start talking about my first HHN. The first year I became aware of HHN was 2002, and my ex and I were taking my son to IOA for the first time for his birthday because he was a Spiderman NUT. We walked over the night before and saw the fog rolling over the bridge as soon as you walked over it from Citywalk. There was a preacher outside telling people not to go in and his followers were all tore up and bloody and just whacked out. It was great.

2003 was the first year I went in and wow. I was drunk in the first five minutes, and didnt know anything about any of it. I just knew it looked cool and I wanted in.

We did Disorientorium and I loved it.

I think that was also the year of Vampyre, Hellgate and one of my favs, Terror in Wax.

The fog was my favorite part. It was like Pea soup! It was great.

I'm now a loyal devotee and took my son to his first in 2008, he had to skip 2009 because we took him to HOS in tampa and VA, and did several local haunts. But this year he wants to go for his birthday. He'll be 13, so gotta do it.

Now one thing I kick myself in the ass for is Bill and Ted. I didnt see my first show until 2006...and to think I missed two years of it.

  7. Hey all. Working on a special project for someone....cant say what just yet, but believe me when I tell you it will be epic, and should be widely seen. What i need is for any of your vids of HHN from 17. You will be credited in this little project, and again, it should be seen. I'll let you know when Midnight approaches ;)
