  1. They couldn't hire a child actor to play the part, hence why the concept was slightly revised and a prop corpse and coffin were utilized.

I'm not sure if this should be in this thread or not. Feel free to delete or move.

While on the UTH tour last year, our guide informed us that the reason scareactors were not placed inside the coffins in Drac was that Uni had bought them used.

Uni was not allowed to put people in the coffins for this reason. It was an interesting tidbit of info.

  2. Per your request

    Although I don't see anything.

Thanks so much JW. I knew I wasn't making myself clear. I don't have a photo editor and was using paint terminology. I should have said reverse the image I think. Like a negative. Anyways here is what I meant. Finally got my comp to cooperate.

    Flipped

    bm_smallflipped.jpg

    Flipped & Colors Inverted

    bm_smallflippedinverted.jpg

If it's a projection we could be seeing it from the backside. Anyways, who knows.......

  3. Or unless someone drew up the picture themselves, stuck it on a scanner to make it look more "authentic" and "snuck" and that's why it appears to be backlit by a scanner bulb. That's my own uneducated $0.02 guess :)

I fully agree. Which is why I stated that my observations do not give authenticity to the picture. But like MrBungle, I cannot dismiss this image as an outright fake. I remember last year images of concept art that were dismissed as being fakes, and that the character they depicted would not appear at the event. Yet Julian did appear and ushered us all into the Universal Palace Theater.

So allow me to once again play Devil's Advocate.

Since this is the Parade Building, which will most likely be a HHN History house, an image of Mary would be very fitting. Further, the image appears to almost be a negative image. Mary showed up in several houses as a projection in 08. A small projected image of a character that Uni cannot name would pay homage to the icon rather nicely.

EDIT: JW - Could you flip the image horizontally and invert the colors. I am having issues with uploading pics from my comp. Thanks so much.

  4. Ok. Several thoughts regarding the image of Mary.

    1) it appears the light is coming from behind the picture. (unless it was photoshopped to lighten it)

    2) it appears to be textured. Which leads to...

    3) it is either a painting, done in charcoal, or is some form of projection viewed from behind. (It truly appears to be on some kind of screen or cloth or mesh)

None of these observation of course help to solidify whether the item is real or not, but atleast it may help explain some of the abnormalities and flaws with the pic.

EDIT: Since I can not figure out how to upload pic from my computer. May I suggest flipping the picture horizontally.

  5. AHL2

    AIL3

    CDL2

    NYL3

    SLL2

    SWL1

    WML2

AH, AI, CD, NY, SL, SW, and WM... could they stand for the scarezone, and newly arranged zone? There were seven files for 2008, and there were seven case files yet to be revealed. Four files for L2, two for L3, and one for L1... very much like the arrangement of 2008's..

    What do you think?

During the conference call with TJ at the end of the game in 08, it was confirmed that these cases were nothing more than window dressing. They were there to add to the experience, but were not clues. TJ also confirmed that we had guessed the majority of them right. He never said which ones were right. Going by pure memory, here is the list we came up with:

    AHL2 - Amityville Horror

    AIL3 - Alcatraz Island

    CDL2 - Charleston Dungeon

    NYL3 - The 13 Curves

    SLL2 - St. Louis Cemetery

    SWL1 - Salem Witch Trials

    WML2 - Winchester Mystery House

All of the hauntings occur in the zip code that is provided as the case number.

    11701 - Amityville, NY

    94129 - San Francisco, CA

    29401 - Charleston, SC

    13215 - Syracuse, NY

    70119 - New Orleans, LA

    01970 - Salem, MA

    95128 - San Jose, CA

32819 is the zip code for Universal Orlando.

  6. At first I sought to reconcile these divergent accounts, taking my cue from the old fable of the Blind Men and the Elephant. In that story each blind man felt part of the elephant and thought he knew the whole, he only had a piece of the truth which was far more marvelous than he had imagined. So I had hoped, that the sources had only heard part of what was going on, and neither being wrong the truth would encompass all of what they had learned.

It can be done. You know I love to play Devils Advocate.

Greek Mythology House – What are Greek Myths? Stories that attempt to explain the existence of man like all religious stories. Therefore myths are stories. They could easily be told to us by Elsa. The StoryTeller was supposed to be placed into an ST house in 06, but things fell through and we did not get our eighth house till 08. Elsa could easily be the one who brings this house about. It does bring a new element to her.

I apologize for not being able to reveal why I believe this next theory, but….

Second house in SS23 could very well be a Scarepy style house, which of course brings the possibility of Jack once again participating in it.

    SS22 is still a mystery.

With the information received recently about the Disaster house, there is speculation that this house could be Scarepy. The description of the facade does not bring to mind an asylum though. Ladders on the outside of a building make me think of an industrial warehouse.

Carnie, Mechanic, 1980s style van…could A&D attempt to converge Eddie’s two storylines. Edgar Sawyer lived in a trailer park on the 1980s. Eddie Schmidt was carnival folk like his brother. It would not be odd to see an industrial complex filled with Carnies and Ride Mechanics, all of whom work for Eddie of course.

Jaws que is the hardest house for me. After the last two years of placing the house with the largest GP pull in this location, I have to wonder if Uni will once again place their “most Important” house here.

Since I am not privy to some information, I must continue my suspicions that this will be the Icon House. Not Morpheus though. Can you imagine the confusion the name Morpheus would cause? Hypnos or Phobetor? Hypnos is the sandman and better known, but Phobetor is the god of nightmares. Hmmm..I must wait and see.

The Parade Building will be the HHN History house.

Tent 1 is interesting. We have a museum, a doctor and a mummified girl. We have two doctors that we have seen at the event. Dr. Mary Agana and Dr. Albert Caine.

Dr. Caine seems to be from the Victorian Era, and appears to have had some money. Have you heard of Cabinets of Curiosities? I would not be surprised if Dr. Caine had his own collection. It would be a different approach to his character.

Tent 2 my personal favorite since it housed the most terrifying HHN house in my experience. No movie houses yet nothing is ever new under the sun. HFTH was a house that was inspired by Black Christmas, but of course used original concepts. Unlike IT which paid homage to the movie Event Horizon, HFTH gained its own identity separate from the movie.

Splice is not an original concept. Think of The Island of Dr. Moreau. The Dows will have shaved heads. Interestingly enough, the creature from the movie Splice is referred to as a human chimera tying into the myth theme. Gene splicing and manipulating DNA is a very common trend in horror. Not to mention a trend toward Doctors creating human monsters (The Human Centipede). So while the house may not show homage to a movie like IT, it could be a mixture of inspired imagery and ideologies that span the spectrum of movies that lie within a given trend.

  7. Observation Deck.

I know Shadow has stated that there will be no movie houses, but a look toward the past can show that no movies houses doesn't necessarily mean no movie based houses. IT was loosely based off of Event Horizon. Ship of Screams was loosely based off of Ghost Ship. The Skoolhouse was heavily influenced by Trick or Treat. So, could the Observation Deck be pointing toward a house loosely based off of a movie.

One of the first things I thought of when I read Observation Deck was a laboratory. Could we see something along the lines of Splice? Scarepy HFTH loosely based on Black Christmas which was made by Copperheart, the same people who made Splice. Just a thought.

Maybe the house will be based off of Splice?

Seriously, that movie creeped me out. Another dude and I actually RAN out of the sex scene toward the end of the movie.

No one seemed to pay attention when I mentioned it.

  8. I pestered my hubby into looking at the pics of burnt wood (he works with wood and is in the construction field)....

First and foremost, if there was a small fire, the wood would not be burnt in select places. Fire rises, if it was not a designed burn, then you would not see an area of burnt wood. Three boards with very random spots of burning? The only way it could have burnt in a pattern like that is if it was held over a fire sideways or a torch was used. The middle piece was most likely held over a fire.

Secondly, 2x4s cost $2 or $3 dollars. If these pieces of wood were burnt in a fire Uni could have bought more and not used them in a house. An inspector would never allow these pieces to be used for a structural setting.

These are prop pieces. Or they are waiting for the junk pile.

We will probably see an old burnt down building in the Jaws que.

  9. I've been having a few discussions with friends regarding HHN and we have found at least one discrepancy regarding house locations that has us confused. We have also been discussing the possibilities for the Observation Deck.

Let me explain the discrepancy first.

From HHNRumors (bolds inserted by me)

Anon writes USFPG an email asking about the availability of SS24 for October 2010. Uni writes back saying that SS24 won't be available for the entire month of October. Simple enough, Uni goes on to say that part of SS23 would be available during the month. Leading me to believe that these soundstages will be used for HHN and that Anon may be on to something.

It may be a mistake, a typo, or red herring, but why is half of SS23 available and SS24 totally unavailable. Does this mean SS22 will hold two houses instead of SS23? Why will SS24 be unavailable? Will we have another que line in a soundstage? Just confuses us ever so slightly. I would have thought SS23 would be 2 houses and SS22 only 1.

    Onto the Observation Deck.

  10. Is everyone remembering to check the LT site as well? It was still redirecting last night.

Since it was renewed, it may get the update we are all waiting on.

The teaser site with all of it's clues is for us the fans, but now that Potter is open a simple page would be a far better advertisement for the GP.   Could the LT site become our clue site?

  11. Hope this is in the right thread.

Out of curioisity I sent HHN10 to Uni's text number and received this back.

Universal Parks: Thank you for signing up for HHN Updates. U will get 1-3 msg/wk. Std msg chgs apply. HELP 4help; STOP 2 quit. www.HalloweenHorrorNights.com

The mobile site is stil for 19, but it appears they have updated the texting service.

  12. Medusa is a Gorgon and she doesn't have wings. I've actually never seen any gorgon with wings before.

Oh an I'm just not getting how people are saying Greek monsters aren't scary or relevant to teens. Is not God Of War relevant to teens AND nothing but Greek Gods... Percy Jackson (which I couldn't care less about)... Clash of the Titans movie? Even Harry Potter has aspects of ancient Greek monsters. Again its all in the packaging. If they can twist 'ole boring flat top Frank into a gruesome, steam punk monster it really isn't that hard.

JW, I couldn't agree more. Greek Mythology is as relevant as Cirque Du Freak and 100 times more frightening when it is pulled from it's traditional source. Just like many fairy tales are darker than the "disneyfied" versions we know, most myths have been watered down or changed by Hollywood.

As for the gorgons having wings, I have two links.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorgon

Gorgons sometimes are depicted as having wings of gold, brazen claws, the tusks of boars, but most often with the fangs and skin of a serpent. The oldest oracles were said to be protected by serpents and a Gorgon image often was associated with those temples. Lionesses or sphinxes frequently are associated with the Gorgon as well.

http://www.theoi.com/Pontios/Gorgones.html This second link has a classical depiction of the gorgon C5th B.C.

The three Gorgones were depicted in ancient Greek vase painting and sculpture as winged women with broad round heads, serpentine locks of hair, large staring eyes, wide mouths, the tusks of swine, lolling tongues, flared nostrils, and sometimes short coarse beards. Medousa was humanised in late classical art with the face of a beautiful woman. In mosaic art her full face was wreathed around with coiling snakes and adorned with a pair of small wings sprouting from the brow.
  13. My two cents on the scene names.

    SS23:

    5. Medusa/Gorgon - Gorgons have wings. Will we see a return of the Bungee scare or will it be more like the scares used in Drac and Wolfman.

7.Army of Hades - One house with two references to Greek Mythology leads me to believe the entire house will be based off of it. Will we see the Minotaur's Labyrinth, Mt Olympus, Hephaestus' Forge?

    Sprung 1:

    9. Museum Hallway - With a possible hhn history type theme to this year, will this house take us through HHN's history or will it in some way connect to the Greek Mythology house and history in general?

    Sprung 2:

    0.Facade - Doesn't help much

    3. Observation Deck. - If this is Frightanic, I hope they can pull it of in a tent. The first thing I think of when I hear Observation Deck isn't a ship though. I think of the Empire State Building or The Gateway Arch. I also think of observation points used by scientists in a lab or the watchtowers used by park rangers.

    Parade Building

    1. Vortex - This vortex could be more like the one used in IT instead of the ones used with Jack, Chucky, and other funhouse type houses.

    9. Rat Lady Corridor - Others have said it, but this brings to mind Dungeon of Terror. The Rat Lady's original home. And since Mae asked about her being in the floor, I don't think they will do that again. I vaguely remember hearing comments that the Rat Lady's view from that position could be very disturbing at times.

These scene names seem to create more questions than they answer, but it's a start.

  14. I have been reading the forums the past few days, and I have had an idea fermenting. I apologize if this is long.

Actually, it's an expansion of other speculation. I am not sure if it's mature yet, but here goes....

The idea of an "entity", a root to HHN has been mention a few times. I haven't keyed into it until someone mentioned Cindy as being the root.

I have actually always felt that the Storyteller's story fits Cindy. The story about the little girl who eats the monster. Anyways, the idea of Cindy being the "root" made my brain wander and made me realize we do have a common thread and at least two cases of possession with the icons.

The common thread between the icons is one of those things that is so obvious, that you really don't see it. All of our icons, including Eddie and Cindy, have been defined by obsession/profession.

Albert - defined by his experiments to resurrect the dead. It's an obsession and profession. He progresses from just playing with dead bodies to creating his own.

Jack - from his continued use of the clown to the fact that he drove an asylum to emulate him, one has to wonder why he is obsessed with his profession as a clown.

Mary - she killed people to cure them of there phobias, need I say more.

Elsa - she makes her fictional worlds come to life.

Cindy - Obsessed with revenge, she builds a world to help her.

Eddie - an obsessed slasher fan becomes disfigured while trying to build the perfect haunt.

Julian - becomes obsessed with "his" theater, ultimately resulting in his death and continued haunting of the location.

Paolo - The obsessed director who wants "real" reactions and emotions, so he begins to create snuff films.

Building off of the idea of a "root" is really not hard. An entity that promotes the singular obsession of a given person. Driving that person to a manic and homicidal point, at which the entity is able to feed.

As for the two cases of possession.

We know Dr. Agana was possessed. One can assume that was by her grandmother. I may be wrong, but I don't believe that was ever pointed out as fact.

Elsa Strict gives us a poem about a little girl eating a monster. Taking in and beating the monster. It rings of possession.

I have no idea if this will come to fruition, but I can see it as a 20th Anniversary reunion. A family tree. Something that brings everything together. An entity that feeds on fear and obsession has controlled our icons. Influences them. What or who that may be, I can not even begin to guess.
