  1. I have to ask everyone who is worried about the event:

How long have you been going to the event?

I've been going since 98, and I can't help but wonder if we would still have an event with all this worry and negativity.

My first year had 5 houses (Frightantic was dual run so I count it has 2 houses) and 1 official scarezone. There were no express passes. There was no icon. I fell in love with the event. I fell so in love with the event that I made sure I got married in October, so that I could spend my honeymoon at HHN and celebrate my anniversary there every year.

MOTB was a great scarezone, but it did not have the massive props we see now. Until the move to IOA, the zones didn't really have huge props. The zones were still good. The scareactors made the event not the props.

Since everyone keeps mentioning it, 07's problem was not the lack of themed zones but a lack in the number of street scareactors. Having been to the event with only 1 zone, but with a decent number of scareactors in other areas of the park, that's what hurt 07. Not enough street scareactors.

We don't know how many scareactors we are getting in the houses or on the streets, but there are three open auditions. I have to agree with Jimmy. Give the event a chance.

As for a comedic icon, I would like to point out the one icon who seems to be the most popular icon ever. Jack. Jack was dark humor, and has always been well received. People love him. I don't understand it, he's never been my cup of tea, but every year people ask to have him back.

If the P&T rumors is true, they won't have the in park presence that Jack did. It will be more like the pre icon era.

So as a community, we should watch, wait, and see. Maybe if everyone think of this year as HHN: Old School, it will help.

  2. Ray started doing the website in 2006. He's an awesome guy and very talented. Without his services this year, I expect the site to update similar or exactly like the hollywood site. Which probably means no clues no interactivity and just the basic site. However we have our "teaser" page and they do not... so I'm hoping its a little different. But I don't expect a overly elaborte backstory.... or any real link between the various houses

Thanks, Jeramy. Knowing he only started in 06 helps. It amazes me how great he's done in only 5 years, trying to create a site for fans and the general public. He's done an awesome job.

  3. I'm sure they'll find someone else or use another method. Plus the websites the last few years were a little lame.

I believe Ray had always done the website. And while the last couple of years have not been as great as some of the past years, I think it's been a learning process for everyone.

We didn't see an interactive website until, I think 04. 06 was one of the first years to have a slow build with clues. 07 was the first year with "games". 08, the year I think everyone compares websites to, was the first year with multiple weekly updates.

One also has to remember that 08 was the last year we had a truly indepth back story to an Icon. Also, although 09's website was not as great as 08's, anyone who saw the model that was built of of the theater has to see that they really did put a ton of effort into it.

So if we go by 08 being one of the best years, I think they have done great. Trying to please the fans and give the info to the general public is a balancing act. 4 to 5 years of trying to learn the perfect balance really isn't a very long time. Especially since Ray usually didn't start working on the site until May or June when he would finally receive the info for that year's event.

  4. I admit no permit is concerning me.

The building permits were reviewed again on 6-28 and 6/29 with no visible updates except that they were disapproved again. (which is normal until all necessary changes are made).

I even checked the other parcels jut to see if there we somehow sneaking it in under a different project... No such luck.

There is still the possibility of including some part on IOA (Grasping at straws as this year is breaking all the rules :) ).

    Still searching and waiting semi-patiently.

Semi concerned myself, but I'm thinking patience is warranted.

If they are changing house designs, it would make sense that new blueprints need to be made. This will take some time and then the new permit will have to be pulled and added to the project.

Although, so far this year, common sense seems to have been thrown out the window. It is very hard to judge what decisions are being made due to all the construction and last minute changes.

Basically making our jobs of speculating on how things work that much harder.

  5. The one that says "Sprung 1 review" is the permit for the entire project. It says "sprung 1" because it was the first house input into the project.

The "PRJ" denotes that it is the project permits, the "BLD" denotes the individual building permits, the "FIR" is a fire permit, and the "ELE" denotes the electrical permits.

^Completely right. I would like to add that they pull fire and electrical permits every year. They usually have to do some electrical work and they always add extra fire alarms/sprinklers.

I'd have to pull up the individual permits to know for sure, but usually the ELE permits coincide with the FIR permits. The ELE permits, in those cases, are for the necessary electrical work to install the fire alarms/sprinklers.

  6. QUICK QUESTION! IM TRYING TO BUY MY RUSH OF FEAR PASS, AND WHEN I HAVE TO INPUT THE INFO FOR THE TICKET IN THE BOTTOM, IT HAD A BOX TO CHECK AND SAYS "USE PASS FOR BILLING" .... WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

I haven't bought my tickets yet, but this usually means it will use the same information supplied for the pass for billing purposes. So, the name and address info you input for the pass would be used for billing you as well.

  7. ok for the 20th year it started a new era of fear right... fear was a representation of Phobos the greek god of fear. this year it was Fortuna the greek godess of luck..last year in caticombs there was a plaque that stated a clue about this year. this year there was a plaque in winters night that i will post a pic of. the last word on the plaque was Fury capitolized which gives it personality

I hate to be picky, but I have to point out that:

1 Fear was a representation of the Sumerian god of fear, Adaru.

2 Fortuna is the Roman goddess of luck. Her Greek equivalent is Tyche.

But yes both have been deities, just not Greek deities.

  8. I don't know if this has been mentioned but they're selling a girls tank top this year. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't get a picture of it but it's black with red lettering and it has the house always wins or something like that written on it.. And it also has Halloween Horror Nights written on it too. I will definitely be picking it up.

    ^ THIS!!

    Feminine shirts are +1.

  9. Automatic Writing is the concept that led to Ouija.

While Ouija Boards are considered by many to be nothing more than a game, and their creation to be nothing more than a capitalistic act that preyed upon the popularity of the Spiritualist Movement, there are some who will tell you to never tempt fate and to not play with things you do not understand.

Doorways can be open in many ways, through various means and forms. Mirrors are considered by some to be doorways but we still stand before them and preen ourselves.

In modern times, we have seen other games associated with the opening of doorways. Think of Jumanji, while a childrens story, it is the concept of a board game opening a doorway to another world.

Why couldn't we have it both ways? Ouija boards were a modern interpretation of another form of spiritual contact. With the popularity of RPG style dice games, what's to say that this is not a game that is a more modern interpretation of a Ouija?

  10. But she doesn't speak with a British accent...

Why would Lady Hawthorn speak with a British accent? Considering her tombstone is very reminiscent of the ones in Salem, Massachusetts, I wouldn't imagine her having a British accent. A New Englander accent would be far more appropriate.

As to our Icon, I say everyone give her and A&D a chance to reveal her true potential. We have not seen the whole package or picture. The commercial is jumpy in places as if scenes have been cut. It's flow seems interrupted. I'm guessing the full commercial will remedy this.

  11. Love the new game.

With the mention of rats in it and the specific titles of the tomes, could this be giving us a hint to one of the NY scarezones?

Should have added as well to this post.

Could this game point to more than just the Poe house?

We have spec on the Rat Lady being in NY, we have very specific titles to books, and we have books that have been eaten by rats.

We have seen Uni give hints to both houses and zones with one clue (08 case files), so I was just wondering if we are seeing the same thing this year.

EDIT: For those worried about copyrights, each of the works that are referenced in the game fall within public domain.

  12. New game is up! must be for the Poe House in Sprung Tent 2. Yes I bow to Jeff and admit there will be a Poe after all, and boy am I pleased by this!!!

You click passage to Baltimore of course that's where Poe lived!

Now about the books. The five tomes of not so long-forgotten lore in Mr. Poe's Library are all Gothics and include:

Wuthering Heights by Ellis Bell (the pseudonym used by Emily Brönte) 1847

Faust by Johann Wolfgang Goethe 1832

    Frankenstein by Mary Shelley 1818

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge 1798

The Vampyre by John Polidori 1819

All of these books published before Poe's death in 1849.

    Love the new game.

With the mention of rats in it and the specific titles of the tomes, could this be giving us a hint to one of the NY scarezones?

  13. The new image they uploaded to HHN's Facebook was posted here but not discussed, everyone was distracted discussing the coin. (Besides Goo!) What are your guys thoughts on what house it's from?

I could see it being from the Disaster house. Less likely, I could see it being in the Jaws house if in Saws n Steam you're walking through a house or something being taken over by them chainsaws... Although, from what we've seen in Jaws it seems like it'll be more of a factory.

    Disaster House.

I believe there are construction pics from Disaster with blocks in them.

EDIT: I double checked and yes there are construction pics on Rumors from Disaster showing the blocks.

  14. I agree this could be our WWI house.

When I first heard of nurses being cast, I thought of the novella by Stephen King "The Little Sisters of Eluria", which is a story linked to The Dark Tower.

Short synopsis about the Little Sisters

Roland and his horse arrive at a deserted village, Eluria, where he encounters a feral dog bearing a cross-shaped spot in its fur attempting to eat a dead body. Roland scares it off, and while looking over the corpse, finds a rectangle-shaped medallion. Roland takes it, and is immediately attacked and rendered unconscious by a group of slow mutants, but later awakens in a hospital marquee run by a strange group of nuns. Calling themselves The Little Sisters, they use tiny bug-like creatures they call "doctors" to heal his severe injuries. At first, they seem benign, but Roland slowly discovers that they are actually vampires, who bring stray survivors back to their "hospital" only to feed on them once they've recovered.

I could see our nurses being something similar (not the exact characters) to these "Little Sisters". So, I am in agreement with the thoughts that our nurses are some kind of vampire/succubus that are preying on the wounded soldiers.

Dr. Jimmy, while anything whovian is most likely wishful thinking, we can hope that our nurses have some feline attributes.

  15. Some have suggested that this could be a house based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Even though I would personally love to see such a house, as it would match some of my jokes in my April Fool's videos, I cannot help but think that this seems unlikely. We would need something a bit more solid, I think, a clue that was more confirming, than the few possible connections between the scareactor codenames and Poe.

Doctor, I can tell you that the formation of my speculation began with a conversation that is in the Our Mutual Friend thread. As for the reasons I finally posted it, I am not at liberty to say. Further, I am not 100% sure of my speculation, but I am one who would rather post a speculation that could be wrong, if that speculation can spark a discussion that leads us to a more sound possibility.

Onto the question of the casino, I feel from the information we have seen that there will not be a casino. I feel the Icon House will be in SS22 and is connected to the graveyard we have seen in the HHN game and the one referenced by our mutual friend. Once again this is pure speculation and a reasoned deduction rather than sure knowledge.

Now for an observation. It has been discussed in the website thread that we will only have 6 games. This leads one to question what each game is representing, for they surely can't each represent a house. Unless of course, the House of Cards represents a house and The Thing is completely left out of the game.

The other option is that 2 of the games could represent 2 houses. I find it interesting that the language we hear in the Machine game could be Spanish when the Spanish house is thought to be on a ship and the Machine game is very SnS. What if there is a greater connection between the houses this year then in previous events? Could our ghost ship link back to SnS?

And of course there is that Raven inside of the Rune game.

  16. I think I heard French toward the end (but Spanish and French are so close)

At 00:18 it sounds like a little girls saying "I need homework" haha

If not Spanish, it could be Portuguese. Those two languages are actually closer in sound. Although, the main voice we hear may not be in any language we know.

    Ran backwards, perhaps?

  17. This is a speculation I have been contemplating for awhile, time to let others see how they feel about it.

Way back when, when speculation first began, there was talk of a house based on E. A. Poe’s work. With HOS announcing their own Poe house, speculation died down and it was assumed we would not get one. I, now, believe we were mistaken.

When the clues from our mutual friend began to come, it was noted that they were arriving in couplet form. This inevitably led my mind back to thoughts of Poe. And I feel that there is a strong likelihood that we shall see a Poe house in Sprung Tent 2.

The following roles are from HHNRumors.com. The interpretations are mine.

    Link: http://www.hhnrumors.com/?x=casting

    Sprung Tent 2:

Blackjack Dealer – As has been mentioned by others, a blackjack can be a weapon. It is a baton that has been used by law enforcement. My spec for this role is a character from “The Murders in the Rue Morgue”.

Bug Eye – a character from “the Tell-Tale Heart”. The old man with the vulture eyes perhaps?

Seagull – Birds of a feather? Could this be our Raven? Poe also wrote several short stories with nautical themes.

Wing – This, too, could be The Raven. I shall have to think more on it.

Cards – This makes me thinks of “The Fall of the House of Usher”.

Interrogator – “The Pit and The Pendulum”

Aristo Dead – Fortunato from “The Cask of Amontillado or Prospero from “The Masque of the Red Death”.

    Writer – Mr. E. A. Poe Himself.

  18. This may have nothing to do with this HHN, but I love etymology.

    Elizabeth Hawthorn:

The name Hawthorne came about due to Nathaniel Hawthorne's desire to be separated from his relative, Reverend Hathorne.

Hathorne was an intrical part of the Salem Witch trials.

It would be interesting if Hawthorn was a variation that came about for the same reasons.

  19. Legacy, you have misunderstood me.  I am not concerned with the rhyming of words, but interested in the meter and cadence of them.  A rhyme, a poem does not make.  Poetry relies on meter, cadence, rhythm.  It’s the number of syllables in a couplet that matters not if the end words rhyme. Although, they usually do. Or better put….

When it comes to words that rhyme

It oft can take such precious time

To find the words with proper pace

That gives the poem its proper face

The ebb and flow of metered voice

Does not rely on rhyming choice

Instead it needs the words to meet

A certain set o’ syllabic feet

Sin, I could not agree more with your thoughts on haunts and would like to add my own.

Hasn't everyone noticed how similar movie themes seem to come about around the same time?  This is not because movie studios share their ideas and decide to release similar movies all at once.  It’s just part of the creative world.  Certain concepts seem to gain popularity at the same time.  Chalk it up to the string theory and morphic fields.

Kudos to anyone who gets the morphic fields reference.
