  1. I mentioned the slasher IP's because those mazes were less varied in the amount of characters compared to what a Conuring maze would include. And if John said he has an idea on how to execute an Exorcist maze, he'd definitely be able to do one on The Conjuring...

Right. And I pointed out that comparing these films to The Conjuring isn't the best support because Freddy and Jason had something to do or someone they killed in every room of the house. Bathsheba was more subtle in much of the film as some of her biggest scares were knocking things over, pulling hair, and banging on doors.

Anyway, the creative liberty argument obviously works here. One could just load a maze with Bathsheba and recreate the basement scenes.

Also, The Exorcist argument is pretty sad to me as well because all I keep hearing when people throw that out is "You can't have this immensely popular, classic horror movie that has terrified audiences and stayed prominent throughout the past 4 decades, but you CAN have this newer one that got a good score on Rotten Tomatoes."

  2. The Conjuring is not a slasher, the films only death is a dog(if I remember correctly), and most of it's scenes in which the characters are directly victimized by Regina George Bathsheba, while terrifying on film, are quite few and uninspiring for a maze adaption. That last bit was my opinion, obvi.

I'm indifferent, to be honest. I'm not a big fan of the film, but I'm also not against it coming. Hooray for apathy.

  3. I wonder if the HoH close is something they'll be advertising to the public. I'm sure that would call tons of people to flock to the maze to see it one last or even for the first time. I mean, the sets may be very been-there-done-that but they're still impressive. Fun at the least.

TT and HoH have mostly been my throwaway options for trips when I couldn't fit every maze in, but if they were closing for good, their priority skyrockets.

  4. Hopefully they find an actress close to the age of the character in the film; maybe 40-50 at least. Nothing irks me more than a production trying to pass off a 20-something-year-old as elderly. Although, I realize that the pool of actors willing to audition for a halloween theme park event isn't even deep enough for one to dip their toes in so I digress...

I still hope we get ole megaphoney yelling her revision of Christian hymns ("I am the father, the son, and holy shit!" I love it!) and maybe even Carmelo on a giant TV screen warning you about death and such.

  5. While there weren't really any big surprises, I feel like this retelling is a lot better than the original story. I'm just not the biggest fan of campy horror as seen in the movie. Also, the acting wasn't terrible in the series... I say that with love. Kind of. Tarantino, you're a great director, but a horrible actor.

When you get to the end of the season, I'd be happy to discuss.

  6. Clearly the maze is going to feature the horrors of being on the reality show.

Scene 1: "Oh God! My mold is locked!!"

Scene 3: "I'm not going to be able to get to my paint job until... last looks!"

Scene 8: Vi disapprovingly states "Honey, you've really missed the mark on this one."

  7. If that's what Atlas is talking about, I don't know how that makes it a completely different story...

Oh, girl... did he say my name at all in that post? Don't jump to conclusions now. That is not what I am referring to.

I'd also like to point out that I did say "pretty much" as in "almost". Obviously it is still a story about two brothers who kidnap a family and get trapped in a bar full of monsters in Mexico.

Also, I third the request for the penis pistol.

  8. Unfortunately, I don't see this as a big hit with people who don't watch the show. And for those who do, it will still probably be very hit or miss.

I, however, am the happiest fucking camper who ever camped. Maybe they'll even bring back some of the past contestants for the behind the screams preview event like they did with Laney last year. Even though she already works for Universal...

  9. Color me furious. That's cool, Murdy. As a theater nerd, I totally did NOT just review everything I know of Sondheim for hints.

Well, some commonly used words in his lyrics are "coming tonight", "before dark", and "they're here". So.. announcement tonight.

Useless as it may be, there are also many uses of "the woods" in Into the Woods. Obviously. Thought maybe that could lead to a particular cabin. Oh well..

And just a thought... do we know if Minion Mayhem will be open for HHN? If so, that could generate more foot traffic on the upper lot enough to justify a lower awareness IP going into the Parisian area. Appealing could mean desirable or irresistable, but could also simply mean interesting. As in, "El Cucuy? That's interesting."

  10. I just finished watching the series. It's pretty much a completely different story from the movie. I suggest everyone watch it when it comes to Netflix because you're sort of expecting the wrong thing by relying on the movie.

It's almost like they made this series with HHN in mind. You can see it in their sets. I'm sure that's the influence Nicotero had on the production. They have a ton of different rooms and monsters. Making this into a maze would be no problem and I'm EXTREMELY excited to see it all now!
