Here's a conversation topic: what's been your favorite interaction you've had with a scareactor?

Not really a scareactor...but when Billy Mays humped the crap out of me at the last B&T show in 2009.  It was glorious

Any more asylum trope houses would annoy me. There's probably a way to do them more respectfully but it's honestly really jarring to walk into a house or SZ and see abled people acting the way they THINK a 'crazy mental patient' would act. It's either a horribly over exaggerated caricature or it's actually the way some people are, either way it's off-putting when you (or people you know) are who they're supposed to be acting like.

I dont mean this to be combative at all, cross my heart!  I think the asylum trope is so common because the idea of being surrounded by criminally insane people (which do actually exist) is super scary and unnerving.  Innocent and harmless people were horribly abused in asylums, sure.  But innocent and harmless people have also been mass murdered, put in torture chambers, been eaten, etc, etc:  all sorts of common tropes that we see at HHN.  I would give the creators the benefit of the doubt and assume they're not purposefully trying to portray the dark realities of historical asylums.

You mention being more "respectful" about it, thats certainly fair.  Would the theme be more palatable if the backstories behind future attractions explicitly stated that the inmates were violently insane or something?  Just trying to find a happy middle ground i guess :)

    • Hollywood has been the target of Social Justice Warriors who are deeply offended by HHN themes.  They successfully got Bill & Ted show banished, as well as a face character that insults the crowds.  Both of these are alive and well in Orlando, because California is populated with whack nuts.  Contrary to what John Murdy is saying, Hollywood is not having AHS Asylum this year because SJWs attacked haunts last year that used any theme having to do with mental disabilities.  So Hollywood will lay off AHS Asylum theme for a couple of years.

I still see red every time I think about that fiasco.  A show that had been an HHN tradition for years was pulled from the event because one concerned parent got his feelings boobooed.  I understand that certain subjects can be offensive to people but they warn you before each and every show to expect those kinds of jokes and to leave if you don't like it!  Its one of my greatest fears that the Orlando B&T might get pulled because some SJW claims the show gave them PTSD.

The 2009 Wolfman house worked out that way bc the film got pushed back months last minute. It think originally it was supposed to be a Halloween time release.

Haha I remember that house, it got me all excited for a movie that suuuuuucked!  Heres to hoping Jigsaw is better :)

  5. Well because you said "DREAM" hhn, here we go in no particular order...

    -$5 dollar alcoholic drink refills

-The return of the old Ted actor in B&T

    -A yearly Chucky's Insult Emporium

-HHN EVERY night of the event season

-No more gimmicky 3D houses that aren't scary

I think Marketing is dragging their feet with the icon reveal because that's the only think that hasn't been leaked yet.

So to whoever leaked the event, shame on you.

But does Joe the Plumber who's wondering where to take his family this fall have any idea about the leaks we all rave about?  You'd think it would benefit Universal to have more buzz about the event earlier on

Then again Ive never managed a marketing initiative for a multi-billion dollar company so I should probably shut my mouth lol

We've been far too spoiled with the announcements starting in March/April. If it goes to August you'll have people ripping their hair out.

Those early announcements are how they get people to book/plan their trips early though.  It seems weird that theyre starting their big marketing initiatives so close to the event.

Im with CriticalAnalysis, Universal Marketing seems to have made a miscalculation with their strategy here.

I'm not getting the Dia de los Muertos thing at all. This screams Victorian aesthetics a la Caretaker.

I looked up pictures of voodoo altars, and it seems like that is what the homepage picture is pointing too. The site could be trying to tie together Catacombs, Voodoo Queen, and potentially Cindy if she truly is a fortune teller.

I try to avoid you, but she was amazing so I have to disagree with your negative comment. The actress that played her played the part so well! When she was out in the streets interacting with  guests, her banter was so good! Plus, a whole voodoo/bayou themed house would be awesome and something different.

AMEN!  At the end of the day this is a big win for HHN fans, we're getting an original maze instead of an IP that theyre bound to do in the next couple years anyways.

Plus theres some poetic justice in this character getting her due after being axed in 2014 for dumb reasons

Ok that last tweet is 100% about the voodoo queen! She was silenced a day or two after the event began because people cried to guest services about how evil the fake voodoo ritual was. I loved her as a character and would be 100% ok with them bringing her back!

I think you are absolutely correct. So does this mean she's getting her own house? It seems like the Ifrit is saying he hasn't started talking about scare zones yet according to one of his tweets.

"The shift, the tide that you seek

Is not from houses to zones

It's cause is found in a leak

    And things that became unknowns

I wonder if the leak he means is the Conjuring and it's replacement? I would be so happy to have this instead of TWD again.

So "The Ifrit" after doing a bit of researchis hinting at a Scare Zone based on Pagan Witchcraft or more commonly known as a Religion known as Wicca. The Rainbow symbolizes hope, connection, and unity of spirits. "Under the full moon's light" is a Prayer or a Chant and also referring to the Dark Moon. Steamers could refer to a Boat. Or something else. Finally the river could refer to ancestral river which refers to the Lady of Blood. Basically a Wicca Scarezone based the Three Nights of the Dark Moon.

Is it possible that the setting could be something concerning a bayou or swamp? The "steamer" and river reference almost reminds me of Huckleberry Finn.

So combining the two theories, could witchcraft and steamboats point to some sort of New Orleans/voodoo themed scare zone?  Seems like a strange theme considering Bayou of Blood was only 3 years ago.  And I doubt that the Coven season of AHS would get its own zone.

Is there some other riparian paganism theme that im not thinking of?

I feel like we are going to get another year of dancing shows or whatever sells more.
I wish it more interactive. I didn't watch AoV last year.
I do feel that we are going to experience a lot of censorship despite being 13 years and up.

I know what you mean about the lack of interactiveness.  I would love it if Orlando would add Chucky's Insult Emporium.  Its hilarious and a chance for people to engage with the event rather than just observe.  It definitely wouldn't make it past any censorship though haha

  13. There has been talk of IP rights issues when it comes to Jack Nicholson's image in the Shining maze.  The Walking Dead houses suffered because we were not able to see any of the characters we knew and loved from the series.  While I choose to believe that Universal wouldn't have signed on the dotted line if they weren't able to create Nicholson masks... im still a little nervous.  A Shining house with a bunch of dudes dressed in Jack's red jacket and jeans just wouldn't cut it.

That being said, Im looking forward to how they do the hedge maze.  Seems like they could build in some great scares in that environment and make you really feel like youre lost.  A hedge monster from the books would also be a nice touch
