^I was wondering if they were going to de-gore the event last year because of Pulse (ala 2001).

Well, there was def a lack of guns. I mean I think GT had a few (could be wrong) but other areas where you'd kind of expect them (I.E Survive or Die, Walking Dead (can't remember seeing any in videos, as I myself didn't go?) they were absent. I remember a Purge zone being heavily speculated last year but people believed it was scrapped because of the tragic event.

Wait- wasn't it The Director who said that art requires sacrifice?

These little clues are actually getting me really excited. It's fun to actually have something to speculate about instead of literally grabbing at air for scraps of nothing.

When I saw the 'Ultimate Sacrifice' email, my mind  went to Caretaker because all I could think of is all the innocence he sacrificed for his work. But, truth be told, nearly EVERY icon ever has that motif. But with Caine, perhaps because that's who's already who I have in mind, that's who popped up first. Although I could honestly see this being Director too, because how important sacrificing others in the name of his work was. But IMO, the website design and the tagline "all our times will come" fits more with Caine as well. Also, that tweet about "we want what you can't live without", the answer soul  is screaming at me. Which, once again, was something Caine was trying to harvest from his victims.

    EDIT:
Now THIS may be stretching a bit, but I have yet to see anybody comment on the similarities between some of this years website font and that of the Terra Guard's.

I'm sure it's nothing and the font's probably been used since 15 (can't recall atm) but I just thought it was a neat little think I'd point out.  ¢

Also, has anyone who has seen Alien Covenant (without spoiling) say whether it would work well as a house. I know Universal works well with Fox in the past, and even if the movie isn't as good as Alien or Aliens, while we wait for them to come eventually I would love to see the xenomorphs back. If Covenant is anything like Prometheus, the sets for the Engineer stuff would be amazing.

I mean... it could, or at least some moments could. But I think a house based on any of the other Alien films would honestly work better (and that includes Resurrection. I'm NOT saying Covenant is bad or as bad as A:R BUT it's just that A:R with it's setting, moments, and pure # of xenos would make for a better house.)

So because I hate waiting, I went back through the threads from HHN26 to see when the house announcements were made.  I had to laugh because the first house announced was on 4/14/16, and the comment was that was the earliest a thread for a house was ever started.  So, we already beat that this year with the AHS announcement happening on 3/29/17.

I'd love to know what you all think about this.  Since we received our first house announcement over two weeks earlier than our first one last year, can we hope to get earlier announcements on all the houses this year?  Here was last year's list:

    TCM         4/14/16

    Exorcist    4/26/16

    TWD        6/3/16

    Chance     6/9/16

    Halloween 7/7/16

    Krampus   8/4/16

    Tomb       8/6/16

    Ghost       8/10/16

    AHS         8/16/16

My guess is at least one more house announced this month, and I'd be willing to take a step a little further and say it'd either be (despite ya'll's feelings) TWD or The Mummy. I could be wrong, and probably am- but with the Mummy coming out soon, they could be use that as some extra promotion. And... if it's TWD (if it's returning, or FTWD if they're going that route) they could just be "ripping off a band-aid" by announcing it.

  5. I personally think that the Director, Usher, Fear, and Bloody Mary have got to be the most underutilized icons Universal has. What's more, they have the potential to make for great pairings. We now have this Jack and Chance duo dynamic, but those four could make for some really interesting partners, or cohorts, or whatever the hell you want to call the relationship.

The one I ship the most would be to see an Usher and Director team up. Come on, it's practically begging to happen. One makes movies, one works at the cinema where they show them. With Universal now going IP heavy, it just makes the most sense story wise. With Fear and BM - Fear is this demon that's  purpose is to terrify every living thing, and throughout 2008's marketing Mary made it clear that people's fear gives her strength- so there's a connection there.

I have a feeling with AHS, we will get a Coven and Asylum year and then a Roanoke year. Coven doesn't have enough content to be a full house and I feel the same about Asylum.

I'd actually disagree. Last years house devoted about 6-7 scenes/rooms per season.

Asylum: asylum facade and/or present day asylum with present day Bloody Face, Woods w/ monsters, death tunnel with aliens, exorcism room, main rec room, Bloody Face's torture room, Sister Jude's office during Christmas

Coven: morgue during resurrection, Madame LaLaurie's torture chamber, outside house during zombie attack, inside house with Axe Man and/or board room attack by Axe Man, general voodoo ceremony and/or Papa Legba room

I will agree that Roanoke def could fill its own entire house, but that I look for Uni to combine seasons 2,3, and 6 like they did last year.

  7. EDIT:- not sure what's up with the font/and strike-throughs in this post. <.<

What I think we will/could possibly get next year:

    - AHS - seasons 2/3/6

    - The Mummy (since around that time the DVD/BluRay should be released for the new film- for better or worse)

    - TWD (sad but true)

    - SAW theme'd house to correspond with SAW: Legacy

What I'd Like to See (that's realistic IMO:)

    - A Vamp house of some kind (but that is tied in to Vampyr- as I've mentioned before, because I'm a sucker for story/continuity)

    - Nightingales

    - New Icon and/or previously unused Icon getting their due

    - WAY more atmosphere in the streets (be it sets, actors, or whatever)

    -Return of connective story

    - Way better website. Okay, yeah... I doubt we'll ever see those truly interactive sites again pre-22, but this years was just sad. Look at USS' HHN6's site. Something like that. Please.

What 'd Like to See (probably will not happen)

    - 'Urban Legend' house return.

    -Alien

-It (yeah, yeah I know- but it doesn't stop me from wanting it any less so stfu :P)

    -Hellraiser

I could list tons of other things I'd like to see I guess (as I'm sure we all could) but I'm really trying to keep this list (even the "probably will nots") somewhat possible-ish. In heart I'd love for more originals and less IPs and going back to really fully immersive streets but I'm also not naive. I think the streets are something that is possible to get close to achieving but I also know that it'll probably always be 50/50 or more with IPs from now on (as I'm sure we've all realized.)

  9. Hey everyone, I posted this in the Knott's section but apparently they had to close down their VR experience because guests complained that it stigmatized mental illness.

I'm curious as to if HHN/other haunts are really going to feel the effect of this this year or in years to come. I mean, I can't imagine something as extreme as Lunatics having to be shut down would happen but I'm thinking more towards the future... which would suck considering some of their best houses have been centered around  psych-wards. Hell... that's generally most haunts.

  10. I wasn't really sure where to put this post since it technically deals with music, but could also potential be a general discussion topic as well- so if a mod feels the need to move this post, go for it.

Maybe I'm the only one, or loosing my mind, but has anybody else noticed or felt like a majority of the music in this zone is very... emotionally driven? Does it seem odd to anybody else? To me most of the music in S&D it's not the kind of stuff I'd expect to hear in a scarezone, even one like this which is mostly action based and less "horror." Those more "emotional" sections (or even some entire songs) could have been cut out but the mixers left them in and I'm curious as to why that is (if there is any reason.) Typically in theatre or film you have those moments that are intended to trigger or resonate with audiences on different level and not just "get the heart beat racing." Chapter Doof, Walhalla Awaits, Going Commando, Dream is Collapsing, Final Frontier and several others have portions in their songs have those more "subdued/emotional" moments and when I'm watching the videos of the zone and they come on it really seems to clash for me and take me out of the feeling they're seemingly trying to establish- I.E a scary postapocalyptic world.
Now I haven't actually physically been in this zone (as I probably won't be able to make the event this year) so maybe it's just because I'm watching it via videos. But it's just odd. These songs seems like deliberate choices, and we know that they've changed at least a portion of the park-wide music this past week and nothing (musically) seems to have changed for S&D so that means they've kept the music the same. If they've chosen specifically this music it makes me wonder why; why the more emotional musical motifs in this zone?

Some IP got there knickers in a knot perhaps?

I'm going to assume that that is probably what happened, although if it is I'm curious of the story as to why. Hell, I'm curious anyway. Def seems to have caused a huge uproar, and it makes me wonder if it IS  a problem one of the IPs getting the tour if they'll change up the schedule and do a different house for future weeks so people can keep taking pictures.

Regardless it sucks, especially for those that were not really giving any forewarning and it being advertised otherwise.
