  1. Great review and for the most part, in line with my experience. My daughter and I went this past Friday, the 26th. We had front of the line passes, which were an absolute necessity, but nothing would save us from the dreaded conga lines. We saw so many scares happen before we reached it, then had the unfortunate timing to be the reset period.  We were also disappointed by the obscene amount of black walls in all the mazes.

Also, regarding the scares, it seemed like they were all limited to one of three ways

    1. Popping through a doorway

    2. Popping through a window

    3. I'm a "statue" or some supposedly inanimate object  - Now I'm not!

which got old pretty quickly.  Also it seemed that every character had some sort of prop "weapon" to attack with, and the scare was always a checked swing at your face.

Overall, it was a "meh" experience - it probably didn't help that we had gone to Knott's Scary Farm the night before, where they totally knocked it out of the park!

  2. Thanks for the info , guys!  I've decided we're going to forgo the RIP this year, and just make do with the passes.

This is going to be a busy weekend for us - we fly down tomorrow night, hitting up HHN Friday night, Disneyland Saturday, then flying home Sunday.

I was trying to decide what to do tomorrow night - Anyone have an idea how crowded Knott's will be?

I wanted us to go to Creep LA, but I slacked and didn't get tix in time..

Now I'm looking at Zombie Joes Urban Death Tour of Terror. Any thoughts?

  3. Hello everyone!

After a couple of years away, my mini me (she's 20 - not so mini anymore! Lol) and I are coming back to HHN for a night of thrills and chills! The last time we went, a few years back, I sprung for the VIP  (the bonus tour was the Insidious scene on the backlot),. It seemed like a lot of money then, but I can't believe the prices now!

Buuuut... my daughter is a HUGE Stranger Things fan, and since this is a special mom and daughter trip - Should I spring for the RIP?

I'd really appreciate it if someone who does this year's RIP could post a review, or at least provide some details specifically around the ST experience and the buffet (great food can definitely be a dealmaker! lol).

    Thanks in advance!!!

  4. Wasn't there a thread specifically for the VIP experience? I'm not finding it.

    Anywho... I'm stoked about this!:

You also get VIP guide & trolley to escort you to all the backlot experiences, Metro sets, Terror Tram and exclusive VIP backlot experience

So, we not only get a separate trolley for the VIP, but for the backlot stuff and the terror tram too! Woot!

  5. Dammit! Typed an intro an accidentally closed the window... hate when that happens!

Anyway, at risk of turning this into the 2014 spec thread, I'm gonna toss my 2 cents into the mix ;)

Take note gentlemen, because I'm calling right now.. (drum roll, please!)....

  6. I would say since Evil Dead exits into the Tranformer's queue go into Evil Dead first then into Tranformers then head to DOA..

so this is a ruff draft of my plan and I will tweek it as the event goes on depending on how everything goes

    1. Head to the lower lot go to Insidious first

    2. Jurassic Park

    3. Evil Dead

    4. Transformers The Ride

    5. Backlot Ride To Walking Dead

    6. Black Sabbath

    7. Quick bite in Dead on Arrival (No pun intended)

    8. back to Lower depending on time and wait The Mummy (willing to let this go if we have to)

9/10 Terror Tram or El Cucuy (which one is first is again based on wait and times)

    11, UMR

    12. The Last showing of Bill and Ted and A little shoping while we wait.

I'd put JP at #8 with The Mummy - when we went, the queue for this was zero, we walked right on to a boat that we shared with only 2 other people.

  7. Hey guys! First I wanna say thanks for all the information you guys have posted so far. Here's the run down. I will be doing the unthinkable...5 parks, 4 haunt events, 6 days! I basically plan on doing Howl-o-scream in Tampa, Knott's scary farms, Halloween horror nights Hollywood and Halloween horror nights Orlando on back to back respectively in that order from oct 10th- oct 15th. Here's were you guys come in...

Finding a hotel in Orlando is simple since they are sprawled across the entrance to universal Orlando. I have had a tough time finding something close to universal Hollywood. And since I am a walker (but im not dead hahaha) It would be nice to find a location close to the park as possible. Also, even though with a trip like this it seems im a Saudi millionaire but unfortunately I am not so money is an object...with that said, money wise, is the VIP experience worth it? I only have one night to do everything and reading what all it involves with the investigation it may hinder me from enjoying the park since its my first time on the west coast period (south Carolina here) and a difference of 100 dollars is pretty big to me just for dinner and 2 beers.

Any help, suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Wow, you're gonna be exhausted when all is done - but have some awesome memories! To answer your questions:

Regarding hotels near Universal, there's a Beverly Garland/Holiday Inn that is a 10 minute walk away. It also offers a shuttle service to the park. I used an online bidder to get our room there for $98 a night (see previous post somewhere in this thread). A lot of the hotels in the area offer shuttles to the park, even ones out by Burbank Airport, which if you could, make arrangements to fly out of rather than LAX.

Also, check out Trip Advisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/HotelsNear-g32655-d104417-Universal_Studios_Hollywood-Los_Angeles_California.html

Regarding getting out to Uni from Knott's (and back to the airport), here's a public transportation trip planner for the LA area: http://socaltransport.org/tm_pub_start.php

And lastly, regarding the VIP - we're doing VIP this year, and for us, I know it will be totally worth it, but we're not trying to do nearly as much as you with the accompanying overhead. I didn't catch if you said you were traveling alone or with a party, or which night you'll attend, but generally speaking, I think in your shoes I'd pass on the VIP and just go FOL. It'll let you enjoy all the "Best of", usually twice over, which will probably be plenty good enough to meet your needs.

Good Luck and Congrats on making such an Epic adventure!

  8. All the tips from Universal's website:

    Terror Tips

    **Courtesy of Universal’s Website **

    • Beat the crowds and the traffic by arriving early. We recommend you arrive at Universal Studios Hollywood before 5:00pm if possible. The event gates usually open half an hour early, and the majority of guests are waiting at the gate to get in. This gets very crowded, so plan on arriving early. Also, there will be a lot of traffic, especially on Saturday nights.
    • Due to the popularity of last year’s event, we highly recommend you purchase your tickets ahead of time. This event WILL sell out and if it does, tickets will not be available at the front gate on the night of the event.
    • Once inside the Park, we recommend you make your way directly to the Terror Tram.
    • Plan ahead with the HHN Park Map – Coming Soon!
    • Want to avoid all the long lines? Purchase a Front of Line Pass which enables you to cut right to the front of the line for all rides, shows and attractions.
    • Get here early for a bite to eat on CityWalk. Almost all quick service and select restaurants are offering specials.Offer expires 11/2/13, valid only on Halloween Horror Nights between 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Cannot be combined with any other offers or discounts.
      • Hollywood Pizza 1 slice of any pizza and a 22 oz. fountain drink for $4.95.
      • Popcornoplis Buy any large cone of any flavor, receive one large cone of Nearly Naked FREE!* *Offer valid ONLY at the Poprcornopolis CityWalk. Between 3pm-11pm with ticket.
      • Jody Maroni’s 10% off any combo

      • Jamba Juice 20% off (any smoothies or juices) any HHN guest
      • Buca di Beppo 10% off any Purchase. No minimum purchase required. Not valid with any other offers, discounts or promotional meal deals. No cash value or return. • Jillian’s Get Happy Hour prices at Jillian’s with the presentation of a Hollywood Horror Night ticket! Jillian’s Happy Hour is $3.99 for well drinks and selected appetizers from our new menu.
  9. Definitely go. They stepped it up last year and they're stepping up the quality big-time, once again. I honestly had more fun there than HHN last year! Be sure to go through Trapped. It should be really good. They'll have six new houses and I'm hearing that they'll all have Trick-or-Treat level quality sets in them (Youtube the maze). Trick-or-Treat will also be completely different so in a sense, that's seven new houses. Give it a shot. I'll be going on Sept. 27h (Friday) If you want to meet up. :)

Hey Freak, we were driving down on the 27th and I was considering finding something do to that night... maybe we could meet up with you! Were you planning on doing Trapped? And if you are, do you have room for 2 more in your party? :)

  10. Just made the plunge and bought our VIPs for Saturday, Sept. 28th! Grand total for two tix: $399.98 (Ow!! Ow! ow! ow! ow, ow, ow! owieeeee!... Lol)

Anyway, to the helpful tips & tricks part. On the confirmation screen this was written at the bottom:

Terror Tram line closes at 10:30pm on Thursday and Sunday nights.

If you purchased a ticket for a Thursday or Sunday night (10/6, 10/13, 10/17, 10/20, 10/24, 10/27, 10/31), please be aware the line for the Terror Tram closes at 10:30pm. Please plan your night accordingly so you don't miss the Terror Tram experience.
