  1. Not to de-rail into Knott's discussion but I -really- like the art direction in Dia. It reminds me of Pyschonauts (Blackvelvetopia in particular). I fully argree with Vegas though. It'd make such a great dark maze, instead it was just plain.. goofy.

I meant the whole use of black light florescent paint, that's tacky, the set pieces and backgrounds themselves are beautiful. I was a little pressed for time as I was on break so I was typing what came to mind at the moment.

If W2MN's music is played on the escalator then it should be fine. Who would really pay too much attention to the music, when they're conversing with their friends while travelling down the Starway the music is just like background noise. The tracks on W2MN are varied and best as that, the Underture works as queue music since there is no lyrics and its a medley of the album's tracks. That is why I think that track in particular would work best in the queue.

  2. I would like Dia De Los Muertos if it wasn't the tacky glow in the dark 3D boat of fail that it is. I liked the idea and concept for it, of course.. Its just the art direction that I don't like.

Lost Vegas is the same, I wanna see a serious demon/haunted casino concept or else I'll write one myself dammit. I was actually starting to do one when I was bored at work, but I cancelled it.. Need to get back to that.

    ANYWAY!

Back on topic, I'm giving this maze the benefit of the doubt and taking what I can out of it. Like DTH said, this is an experimental attempt for Murdy to do a vaguely original maze alongside La Llorona. If these come out as huge successes then we may as well expect more throughout the years, this year may be a turning point for us.

Um.. Did we say that last year, too? I forget..

  3. When I was listening to both Welcome to my Nightmare and Welcome 2 my Nightmare, I just had the impression that this would be the "fun house" of the group. Sure, there will be some scares.. But to me the music was kinda "feel good" (the instrumentals and most lyrics for W2MN) and fun, to listen to. Not "hokey" at all to me.

  4. I remember that happened to me last year, too. Not like missing the tunnel is much of a loss, just maybe have some narrative of the tram icon describing how he's gonna kill one of you when you get to that spot. Tram takes the left instead of the right, icon gets angry, and we're still treated to a scene of mutilation and death if thye set up a small scene of the icon killing an actor/"guest" off to the side in a slightly more realistic setting... like if he/she was trying to escape from the the backlot and WHAM! tackle and stab!

Wouldn't that be even a little better than just ho-hum we're driving into the Mummy's Tomb, tunnel starts rotating, icon says we're all gonna die in some way, lights go out, spray by water, exit while that the skinned/burned/mummified/whatever tram guide dummy is shown on screen before VIOLA! he or she is back to normal again!

  5. I can't believe I really put up an extended suggestion to marketing at work about how a maze on-grounds can work out.. has my desperation to become a scareactor really reached such a point where I'd write up a letter saying how a maze could work for a casino?

  6. You're right, most people start swaying and grip the sides of the tunnel in HoH, the Mummy tunnel is twice as long as that isn't it?

Personally, I miss the blacklit Mummy guards in the tram tunnel.. if some time can be invested, it would be cool if they would use the glow in the dark paint to make the tunnel tied to the Terror Tram. Aside from the on-tram video that gives a reason why we're sprayed from the sides, of course. Like say for this year, it would be a nice little detail to paint the Ghostface mask on the walls of the tunnel. Just saying. But that would be too much money and mostly time for them to invest, right?

  7. Yes....yes they do. They're high school kids with a passion for HHN and season passes. Plus I think their parents are loaded or something. Whatever, I'm not gonna complain, they give us good updates most of the time.

I'm not complaining either, just makes me a little jealous that people can be so close and with little to no time on their hands to do anything else. Although if I could do regular construction updates for our little community here, I so would in a heartbeat. But seeing that I'm so far it seems like just a tremendous waste of gas to drive for two hours, hang around the park for a couple of hours, and then be struck in 3 hours of traffic to head back so I can have the satisfaction of seeing this go up. I love HHN and everything, but I'm afraid that I don't have the disposable income for that sort of thing anymore..

  8. Those Christmas Trees look terrible... I would pay to see somebody start decorating them while going through the maze. I know it's vandalism and not actually a good idea, but it would still be epic... The maze doesn't look bad to me but when I saw the trees I was like "Ummmmm.... What???".

What did you expect, honestly, for them to somehow make a new batch of matching tree trunks and branches to be consistent with the previous scene before the spinning tunnel? Preposterous, sir!

    I'll admit, it's cheap but...

HHNH loves to recycle props..cough...all the scarezones.... At least now they are being creative and recycling from Grinchmas instead of HHN...lol

...Because recycling is Green, and Green is Universal! :D

    Pardon me, I had a dull day at work and I need to let it out in a positive, non-critical way. ^^;

  9. Well at least they put a mannequin of the Feral Child in the HoH, so that's nice. The torn up bodies in the lab are a nice touch. But what were you expecting them to put in the blackness after the spinning Wolfman tunnel? I don't think they can put the fake tree trunks in that space, seems too narrow. It looks okay from what I can see for the overlay, some effort is better than none, right?

That black tubing, A/C pipes for The Thing? It's gonna be a freezing in there like it was in the Nancy's Room scene of NOES last year! Awesome! I'm gonna love it in there!

Alice Cooper... pretty much looks the same now as it did when I went, although now it looks more distressed and old looking. Anyone think that if they would play music on the outside of the facade, it would be The Underture from the recent album? I was listening to the album on my way to work, and I thought it would fit nicely to hear that before entering.

La Llorona.. oh my god that church looks beautiful..

4 more days... dammit the wait is unbearable.

...And seriously, do these kids live there or what?

  10. I've reached the point where if I'm in the typical conga line style of a walk-through of a maze of any sort, or if I'm in one of Knott's mazes when it's just my partner and myself, I find that I don't get scared at all. Instead, I become like a living camera and just look around at every little detail and just enjoy the show.

However, if I'm isolated from anyone else and its just me going solo through a maze where I feel total immersion into its world or with one other person then I become the mostly silent, natural sort of afraid. I creep slowly through scenes, aware of what may be around the next corner or what may pop out of the next boo-hole, or appear where I would not expect it. But no matter what, I'm not a screamer.

You ever hear of a local maze that didn't seem to last very long that was in Ontario? The Haunted Vineyard? I'll admit that was my first maze ever, it was extremely well themed, had a backstory that wasn't abandoned as soon as you entered it, and kept you immersed in its world at all times. I was silent, alert the whole time, felt like my legs had become tremendously heavy and although I never screamed once, I just kind of spring backwards or cling to the wall temporarily. I make slight noises when I get scared, but nothing over a subtle grunt.

I recall one time fairly recently during the normal season for Universal that it was just my partner and myself in the House of Horrors... despite all the times we have gone through it, I found myself feeling those same symptoms all over again, although I just try to dart out of the way of where I know the scareactors are placed. So it's mixed for me, but I know that if lines were pulsed properly, I would definitely feel some level of fear.

  11. The property would have worked far better as its own maze. You really can't even consider it Talbot Hall because nothing goes along with it..aside from the catacombs, but even that is pushing it with the screaming, light up skeletons and the unmasked Phantom of the Opera hanging that one guy... then of course the masque Phantom at the top of the stairs.

I'm sure Universal is very proud of their preservation of the remaining Van Helsing props, but the whole location just kinda falls flat when an overlay is used for HHN. That part needs to be a hallway of sorts to enclose the catwalk, which it probably can and quite easily made to still fit in with things.

I lost my excitement of seeing a Wolfman maze the moment I saw it was in HOH.. but if it was either that or something like La Llorona or Alice Cooper, I'll accept it that Wolfman was shoved in there.

Although I'll pin the blame on HotC's return as to why Wolfman was put in the HoH.

  12. Yeah, usually I can wait it out to get more of a Halloween experience but just sitting by and reading reviews on SCREAM or THE THING or even LA LLORONA would just kill me knowing I'd have to wait longer. The way I see it, it's like the midnight screening of a movie you've been waiting for.

And that's why I'm gonna call in for work for that day and go to HHN anyway, if.. uh.. if it's not sold out by opening night FOR opening night by then. I just don't want to wait until Oct. 22nd to finally have my turn at this year. I guess I started a new tradition for myself, always go to opening night solo and then sate my appetite by looking at video on YouTube, or hopefully what I take myself until it's time to go again.

Hope I can meet some of you guys there!

  13. Then I guess they turn the light off in that room again, and our adjusted eyes will see the Chucky props even though we aren't supposed to. Maybe strobe it up and confuse our vision with an attack? I dunno, in a perfect world they would give themselves a slightly longer prep time in between daytime operating hours and HHN hours to adjust it.

Mummy room.. yeah, it wouldn't make sense to make it another visit into the Talbot family crypt while we had already began in the start of the HOH, wouldn't it? May as well turn this into a full rundown for speculation of the maze..

Since I'm assuming that the Talbot family crypt is what we're implied to be going through at the start of the maze anyway, I'm hoping we see at least see some reference to the crypt scene, even if it's a partially transformed Lawrence where Nosferatu usually is with a full Wolfman attacking before you reach the stairs. Maybe we could even see a living statue scareactor standing in as the dream version of the statue on his mother's sarcophagus ("Look into my eyes, Lawrence. You'll see I'm quite dead.")?

I'm not really sure what could work in the Mummy's Tomb although with its close scene alignment with the catacombs, it could work as more of the crypt. Maybe just have another wolfy pop out where the live, growling Mummy does? Just again, darken the room and strobe it up with a Wolfman attack, since they seem to like the flashing lights and sound to prompt a scare anyway for some scenes of the normal HOH. But then that brings the problem of Chucky's room into light, too. If it's a darkened room, if might act as a good transition in between all scenes related to Talbot Hall or the surrounding areas; a dream or delusion of Lawrence while he's away in the asylum?

But then there's the Frankenstein's Lab catwalk afterward isn't there? I honestly can't think of something that can hide how out of place this venue is for the theme... they really can't hide the large generator in the center of the room. Psycho Cellar... have a human Sir John here to unnerve guests that listen to him, then there's the mirror maze, and I've already voiced my thoughts on that, so moving on. Then there's the projection screen and then the hanging bodies room, ugh, well we can see projections of the Wolfman attacking people as a reference to his attack on the asylum which continues to where the hanging corpses are. Then there's the stairs leading to the first floor and the forest, uh.. just place actors of Gwen and WolfyLawrence in that scene, and after the spinning tunnel just have both the Lawrence and Sir John Wolfmen attack from both sides of the walkway.

For the bottom floor the Lab... I dunno, just have Lawrence and Sir John attack the guests again for good measure. Exit room, one final scare from the Lawrence Wolfman and a beheaded Sir John's body, since they favor the headless scareactor thing.

As much as I'd like to see Aberline represented in the overlay somehow, I'm not quite sure where he'd fit.

  14. My MAIN concern is how they will fit wolfman into the other themed rooms. Mostly Chuckys room and psychos mirror maze.

Well... I think that if the Norman mannequin was redressed to be maybe Lawrence or Wolfman Lawrence, or even take out the mannequin all together and put a live actor in there who would appear to lunge before the light fades, sort of like how Lawrence's own nightmare was in the film then the first part can work. I'm sure there's an access door into that closet to the back of it, otherwise how could they have put Chucky on his shoulders, right? As for what could come from the sheet where Mother usually comes out, well why not another live Wolfman to act as an actual attack?

As for Chucky's room, well, I think it can work it was dressed with black sheets around the walls with white sheets to cover the normal scenery, and have the Feral Boy be there. As odd and out of place as he was in the remake as delusions, and in the memory, I think it might work to have him creeping around and attacking in the first room, then rushing out where Chucky usually is.

My main concern is the big Dr. Frankenstein's lab, though... that is really, really, a theme killer.
