  1. Whether it was simply better, or because it was my first time, HHN 21 topped any of the HHNs I've been to growing up. Except for '97 as that was my first and I will always hold the nightmares it caused a six year old me dear.

Same! 22 was the most fun I've had at the event and 21 had the best houses. And being in grade school in 2005, nothing will scare me like Body Collectors did. They scared me so bad that their image was burned into my head and I always remembered their faces. When I joined the community in 2010, I had forgotten where they came from, but then I saw them again and it was so cool to have that connection.

This is exactly what I do! I actually managed to scare myself silly at HHN 21 this way. :P I just let them happen and more or less, I WANTED them to happen and I wanted to be scared very badly, and with that mindset...I was. :)

And no doubt this is the greatest community out there. Horror Unearthed and the friends I had made kept me coming back and will continue to keep me coming back. :)

  2. I also don't need blood or fake guts that much, some houses need it but some house don't need gore. I mean, gore is good depending on the subject of the house but a house doesn't need gore to be scary.

    It depends.

What I wish they did for houses was bigger scares. The actors flying is a good way to surprise you and get you scared. Big puppets are another way to surprise you and scare you. Like the Llorona puppet example from Hollywood, the really big puppet they used. I kind of want to see bigger things at HHN, literally bigger things, bigger effects, bigger masks maybe.

Bigger scares would be cool, and I know other people have mentioned wanting something like the Llorona puppet, so I may be the odd one out, but I don't think that puppet is scary at all.

  3. I've smelt the smells of the past, even the smells from last year, but those smells weren't of blood and decomp. That's why it loses reality for me. Those two specific smells. I also know A&D could never use those two smells. People would complain and probably get sick.

They actually have used the smell of decomposition before, or "simulated rotting flesh." They used it in the original Screamhouse from 2002. It's mentioned in the Art of the Scare movie. To be specific, this is the section where they talk about it:

It happens at about a minute and half in. They briefly touch upon it and then later in the film they explain the logistics of pumping scents into rooms, but I'm not sure where that portion is.

  4. I don't know if anyone cataloged them, but someone might have.

The only two I remember were Psychoscarepy and Dogs of War. Psychoscarepy was a choose your own ending kind of ordeal. At one moment in the game you were hiding in the bathroom. Someone was coming down the hallway and so you had the option to wait and see if the person came in, or hide in the bathtub full of blood. I think the right choice was to wait and not go in the tub (I think the person was the security guard, but I could be wrong on that one).

The Dogs of War one was like a survey. It asked you info about yourself (weight and things like that). It was essentially filling out your form to become a dog of war.

That's all I really remember. Sorry. I hope someone cataloged them. *crosses fingers*

Here's a picture I took of the sign for the text game when I was queuing for Psychoscarepy way back when.

Oh, and when I went to get this photo, I found that I actually took more. :)

If I remember anything from the Catacombs one, it's that it had a lot, or at least a little to do with claustrophobia...go figure haha.

I also vaguely remember the Legendary Truth one now...

Oh and if you're gonna try to text the numbers to see if they still work, they don't. This past summer while waiting for HHN 22, I was bored and tried it...but it didn't work.

Well until someone sheds more light on the games, I hope this will tide you over...but probably not...my memories are pretty lackluster at this point.

Oh and tell me to "save it for the wishful thinking thread," but I want these to return. I had fun doing these. Approved for 23!

  5. I just completed a project on the religion Voodoo. I think it would be really cool to have a house based on the black magic/dark side of voodoo, known as Petro. There you'll find human sacrifices, hexes, and all sorts of really interesting things. I think it would make a really cool house, but it could be seen as offensive to the practitioners. But, just a wishful thought. :)

  6. Rick said, "Well, I can't get specific, but if you liked Horror Unearthed last year, you won't be disappointed this year." .

That makes me really happy. I wonder exactly what it will be. I hope they start hyping the games in the summer like how they did for 2008. That would be the bees knees.

I'm with everyone on how I hope they make it scary again and keep the primary original influence. But that seems to be a unanimous thought and I'm just reiterating myself and others.

  7. EDIT: On a side note, this would also be a perfect event for Universal to prominently bring back Midnight Syndicate, as they have a new album coming this summer that's all about the classic silent horror films, as well as Universal and Hammer.

That album sounds like it will kick some serious ass! And I'd love for Midnight Syndicate to return to the event as well, and also the website.

As far as an overarching theme that I would enjoy would be traditional-Halloween based. There's a myriad of things that could be done, much of which I have mentioned so I'll spare the specific details. Now because these are my ideas and my own theme, I'd of course have 8 houses. Now to me, 2 IPs are perfectly fine in an 8 house event, but no more. There's plenty of IPs that could fit the traditional theme, my personal favorite would be the Halloween franchise. I know Hollywood did this a couple years ago; I'm not sure how well it went or if it translated well, but Michael Myers is my favorite killer and the Halloween movies are my favorite horror movie franchise, so I'd love it...if done well obviously.

  8. irrelevant, meme is 30 seconds long

I really doubt bill and ted will use it for longer than a minute maybe.

Yeah, I don't see them using it for more than 30 seconds at a time. I think the Harlem Shake will be one of the jokes that will occur every now and then in the show, like the Katniss' "I volunteer," joke which was said several times during the show, or the Madmen "You're fired," joke. I don't think every time it will happen it will be 30 seconds long, but just a few seconds to get some laughs out of people. The comedy of familiarity.

  9. 5. Make the Scareactors less picture friendly (unless its us HNN members, then be as friendly as you want with us XD) I hate going into a scarezone and finding camera flashes thrown everywhere like its a Disney character meet & greet. Not only does it ruin the experience, but it sometimes takes time away from the actors that wanna scare instead of having a camera shoved in their faces every 2 seconds.

Scareactors do have the option to say no to pictures with people. If they were not aloud to take pictures with people, that would not stop all the flash photography or just pictures in general. People would still be taking pictures (just not with the actors). I know a decent amount of scareactors and most of the ones that work the streets and like to work the streets are the type that don't mind taking pictures with people. Not all of them are this way, of course, but you see my point. The ones that don't like pictures deny them, it's as simple as that. In fact, most actually like the attention and like to see the pictures of themselves in their roles online and in videos as well.

I always (and others as well) had an inkling that Nightingales would return. I feel that would be a great franchise house and I'd like to see what would be next for them.

Because other people mentioned artist they'd like to see work with HHN, one in particular comes to mind. I think it would be really cool to see something from Jhonen Vasquez. His art style is dark and so are his stories/shows. He created Invader Zim, which was a kids show, but was extremely dark. One episode involved the main character, an alien named Zim, searching for ways to look more human in an attempt to blend in with his classmates. His consensus was to eat and swallow the organs of children at his school (because aliens didn't have human organs in this show). At the end of the episode he becomes so bloated with the organs of children at the school (or Skool - yeah that's actually how they spelled it ), that while speaking to someone, an intestine falls out his mouth and he quickly slurps it back up and acts as if nothing happens. Classic Nickelodeon is where it's at. Also, the show got canceled because in the final episode (which I don't think aired - I could be wrong on this), he actually killed his greatest foe (who was of course a child - they were all at Elementary level I believe).

Now I'm not saying an Invader Zim house, but another Vasquez story that is wonderful is Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. With a title like that, need I say more? This would translate well in my opinion.
