  1. EDIT:

Yes, it's possible he would think that we would think it's a red herring and use it as the obvious clue, knowing that we would end up debating whether its a red herring or not!

True...but I don't see it being that. I either see the clue being the obvious answer or not. I don't have any reason to back up why I feel this way, I just do. Maybe it's part of my denial towards TWD returning.

  2. I've been thinking much of the same things as others on here.

Actually, just before I caught up on speculation today, I thought to myself: Isn't 'surname' a bit too easy of a clue? And then I thought, well so was 'Winnebago.' But Chris beat me to saying it haha.

But, surname could be a very "sufficiently cryptic" clue. If it's not The Walking Dead then anything is fair game really. It could even be Ray Bradbury, who was mentioned several times in the wishful thinking thread a couple months ago. He is a master of the macabre and anything from him would be wonderful (he's my favorite author, so excuse my bias). As a fan of reading, Shakespeare is perfectly fine as well.

  3. It figures I would miss the headless horseman in 2008 by one year...regardless I love the more traditional concepts related to Halloween. Not that I don't appreciate the more "out there," things HHN has to offer but the traditional haunt type things like last years Dead End really stand out to me and I'd love to see something in that vein return this year.

I would also love to see Catacombs make a triumphant return as many have mentioned before seeing as how it was one of my top houses I've experienced ever. One day.... one day....

I like your tastes for Traditional Halloween. :)

  4. This is a stretch, and I'm kinda forcing it to fit my La Llorona spec.

lccothuaa + the i from the misspelled oscilloscope.

Cihuacoatl - Aztec motherhood and fertility goddess. She abandoned her son at the crossroads and returns there to weep for him.

She may very well be the inspiration for part of the La Llorona myth.

In some legends, she was seen in a white cloth saying "Oh my son!" Or "Oh my children"

I actually don't see that being much of a stretch. Good connections, Mysti.

I honestly don't mind a La Llorona house; I mean the story is creepy. It's just the fact that I feel this is being forced upon us again. But if A&D really wants to do a La Llorona house, then that's a different story. It's like the IPs of last year, IPs aren't bad, but there has to be passion in their execution. A&D should want to do them. That would ease my apprehension.

So, I just hope that whatever IPs we get, they are not forced upon Orlando. I'm not a person with connections or mysterious sources, so I have no idea what's going on now...but I hope it's what I said...but it might not.

Just give us some damn good scary houses and a damn good scary year.

  5. The is one reason why Orlando does not "push the envelope". It is the mouse down the road.

Orlando is seen as the "family friendly" vacation spot. You cannot destroy your image for an event that lasts 24 nights a year.

Think of the "horror" expressed by people regarding the Eyegore or the Mary billboards. We must "think" of the children!!!

Like last year's B&T debacle, most of the arguments and offense and horror was "OMG! There were kids in the audience!!"

And it was Universal's responsibility to protect those children! Not the parents, Universal!

Orlando is unfairly treated, because every theme park in this area should be just like Disney. Everyone knows the people in California are "depraved".

Be glad we aren't stuck with Spongebob's Halloween Adventures instead of HHN.

I really didn't want to believe that the answer to this was Disney or Orlando's friendly attitude. But, I remembered some old YouTube videos I had watched that had to do with billboard controversy, and now after re-watching them, Mysti (and others who mentioned it) are in fact correct. Living in Orlando (about 20 minutes from the parks) and also being a student, you really sometimes forget that you're in the tourist capital.

Anyways, here are the videos. This first one is absolutely pathetic, and the YouTube channel name is "ChangeBillboard"...give me a break.

I couldn't find the original one of this video, but it was re-uploaded by horrornightsarchives. I think a lot of people remember this story. God forbid if another controversy like this happens. It's a shame Universal has to worry about problems like this.

It's a shame that the family-friendly mantra is a reason the event is being held back. BUT, at least it's not all bad. A family made a response video to the second video listed, and it's quite hilarious and awesome. The father even states, "I guess that soccer mom was wrong." Classic.

*Sorry for the lack of proper speculation in this post, but I just had the urge to post it.

  6. Depends on what you consider to be "graphic". I find the scene where you see the children drowned in the river to be disturbing.

    20111014_060238_do14%20halloween%20horro

Okay, you answered my question. I was wondering if they actually depicted the scene to a wide magnitude and they did. I'm sure at night it's pretty effective, but I agree with Dr. D, it's not disturbing enough. It would be really bad-ass if they actually showed the kids being drowned, but that would be too much for a lot of people...and I'm not aware of a dummy that would actually look real enough to pull that off. Could you imagine a scene like that with just a standard baby doll, that would be hilarious. Though, if a scareactor just keeps the dummy submerged and yells/cries/struggles or whatever, then that would be satisfactory to me, and of course you at least have to be able to make out a figure of a child in the water and be able to understand what's going on.

But if we are getting a La Llorona house or something similar involving children, I'd like it to be dark, intense, and push the envelope. Which brings us back to HHN needing to grow a set. (Unless they don't want to do something so dark like that in light of a real life tragedy, that's understandable). But if that's no the case, then come on!

  7. I don't mind a house based around children, drowning, or some parent-children relation, but I certainly don't want it to be Mama, and I'm a bit iffy towards La Llorona.

Another thing that this reminded me of was Shutter Island. *Spoilers if you have not seen the movie*

Well, in Shutter Island, Leonardo Dicaprio's wife drowned their two kids, which caused his character to go insane. Note, it might have caused his character to go insane, the ending is ambiguous and it's also one of those mind-screw movies. Anyways, you could link that to a maximum security prison for the criminally insane (which is where the movie takes place). I'd be down for that. I'd be so down for that.

  8. Hello, future Sam. How are you? I understand that it is now June 2013 by the time you read this. So it is finally summer; I bet that feels fantastic. Oh, and I almost forgot...speculation season has most likely just begun. How is that? Are there any credible rumors going around yet, or any good ideas on houses/streets for that matter? If so, what are you excited for? Any ideas that you despise or any that you really like? Enjoy summer and speculation season. Make the most of it.

-From, Past Sam as of April 7th 2013.

  9. I have friend Anthony C. He can't remember what legion he joined. Anyone know how to possibly find out for him. We already contacted Ray and he said there is no way of telling until the game comes back. Any info would be cool.

The really only way is unless someone screen capped the boards...

  10. the problem with doing that is that the people that are working inside will keep telling you to move and will ruin the scares lol. Sometimes I try to slow down when there is no one behind me, sometimes there is no one behind me at all but there is a group in front of me, so I try to wait for the group to move, but then the people working inside won't let me. They keep telling me to catch up to them... It got pretty annoying. Specially because I had no one behind me, but they wouldn't leave me alone.

Every time in Gothic before the final wall scare with the zip line I would slow down because I never wanted to miss that epic scare. Never really worked out in my favor. I went 10/11 times and I think I only caught that scare 3 times at the most. That's some shit right there.

  11. Pulsing is the only thing I can think of that would help. And I know it's not practical. That's why I try to leave space between myself and the people in front of me.

I wish there was a way to have pulsing work out. Being separated from groups and being able to be more immersed in the house is always a plus and it helps to contribute to the scare factor. I swear to God, every time I went through Dead End, I would be stopped on the transition hallway that lead to the nursery for about 1+ minute(s). It happened so often. And it really takes away from the house itself when you're not even looking at the house, you're just staring at people's backs the entire time.
