Annual Passholder Nights are the 18th, 19th, 25th, and 26th of Sep. Not sure about Oct 3.

Thanks for the response... I did RSVP to that, but in the past, they still offered RIP on AP nights. I was thinking maybe a late press event or something? I also didn't know if the Scareactor Dining Experience would make a difference, but the dates don't coincide to all of the blocked out RIP tours. I'm thinking something else may be up... It's just very misleading (if not, dishonest) to claim those dates are "sold out" when they were never available to begin with.

Any clue what's going on the 18th, 19th, 25th and 3rd? All RIP tours read "sold out". I contacted VIP Services to see if there is a wait list and was informed that they aren't sold out... they were never available to begin with due to special events. Any word on what those events may be?

Correct I am not going. I always do all of these things. NEVER has it cost so much. I want to enjoy my time... not skimp because of the price.
I loved the UMTH tour and if I went I would want to do it. Then again. It was crowded as hell last year as well. The AP party was so choked with people it was 45 min waits for houses with a restricted audience. I waited longer than I have ever waited for a house last year... in the rain. (Unless you count fright nights... there was only one house.) I'm just over it.
Two nights is all I have the ability to go.
My point is I can see 3 different events in two nights and get a hotel still insanely cheaper than the fiasco and ordeal HHN has become.
I just am... disappointed in what it has become. YOU of all people should know what that is

Unfortunately, I hear you brother... Money for me isn't so much the issue, but realizing the "tried and true" are being so ignored and the pandering to (let's face it, "punks") has sent me looking for greener (darker) pastures. I too am going to Tampa (though I've been many times before). I'm concerned about HOS budget cuts, but with Scott Swenson's "The Vault of Souls" and "Scream-a-geddon" happening in Tampa, I'm hopeful. What are the three events you mention?

For those who've never done it, it's well worth the expense--even without the new interactive element. I've done the tour for the past 2 years. The ability to repeat houses front of the line all night... awesome. Orlando only offers this with the private RIP tour starting at $1250! The private lounge is also a nice perk and you'll actually use it. In the past it stayed open all night (couldn't tell from this years description) and I stopped by frequently. Also, in the past, the buffet was light appetizers and desert. This year the description reads, "extensive gourmet dinner buffet and desert", plus two glasses of either wine or beer if you so choose. On the outside, a decent meal with drinks alone would set you back substantially. So if you need more reason to justify your decision, subtract that from the cost. Finally, the event is becoming so crowded (like Orlando), I wouldn't go without it on a Friday or Saturday if you're from out of town like me. Financially, it's a stretch for me to go, but I've never regretted the decision...

Alright.......and the negative reaction from yesterday...I don't get it!!! I'm stoked about EVERYTHING I've heard so far I mean it could be worse!!!! I am a HUGE Walking Dead fan, loved Evil Dead, not gonna lie didn't care for Cabin in The Woods (the movie), but hey RE, AWIL... dude I think the complaining needs to stop...myself personally!
I'm going regardless and if any of these people have ever been to the little local rinky-dink haunted attractions...well then they should appreciate what we do get!!! That's all I'm saying!!!! Universal you have my total backing and support!!!!!No offense, but have you been to local haunts lately. You could do a short tour of the Dallas/Fort Worth area and see more permanent local haunts, three times as long and with more detail. Don't get me wrong, I love HHN and will always go too, but Universal needs to realize that there is more and more competition. The streets tie the houses together adding to one stop shopping. But they've really dropped the ball lately. Unless you want to get "wasted", if you live in any big city, you can drive to more haunts with better sets and much longer mazes. Before you flame me, please realize, I like you, LOVE HHN! But there's no denying it has gotten progressively worse. I offer disappointment only because I want Universal to "fix" it. Yes, the crowds are bigger. But also, take a look at them. I'm not quite sure it's the demographic Universal wants. This same problem happenend to Knott's Berry Farm's Halloween Haunt. I critisize only because I don't want to lose something I love.
*And by demographic I mean younger punks and drunks. Typically with less money to spend than tourists.

Loooooong time lurker, but I have to chime in... I'm from out-of-state and have come every year since '05. Last year, I brought newbees, and no offense to the actors (who are always pretty awesome), I was completely embarrassed by the streets. I told them how great they were in the past and how you could walk through multiple times. And while I knew there were no defined streets, I thought there would be something... It was horrible in my opinion. You can only watch the "hordes" so many times and that was hit or miss if you even saw them. I used to be able to sit on a bench and watch the scare zones and people's reactions for a good, long while. Sorry, but thank goodness HOS is having scare zones this year (albeit only three), so at least I'll be able to show them a little of what the streets used to be at HHN Orlando. I go to Hollywood HHN too, and sad to say, even though they have fewer houses, at this rate they're going to outdo Orlando very soon. I write all this only in hopes that someone, somewhere reading has the influence to correct the event (of course it's too late this year). HHN Orlando is slowly becoming an every couple of years event like HOS used to be. Please don't be angry and slam me, but I'm looking more forward to HOS and Hollywood this year and I'm a HHN Orlando fanatic.
Of course I'll give it a chance. It might be great. But odds are I'll go through each house with Express then either wait in 2 hour lines to repeat or (more likely) leave early. I'm really disappointed in this news. I hope I'm really, really wrong.

I guess I missed it. Did anyone guess it? It was most likely referring to Tom Sellek. He was in a movie called Quigley Down Under & turned down the Indiana Jones role...

Please don't blast me. I've visited the website. I've followed the forums as best I can. I've read the reviews. But does anyone have a more detailed description of the house back stories? I totally get the general ideas, I just don't want to miss any of the intricate story line details that are usually present. If this has been covered, I'm sorry about duplicating. But could someone post a link to where I may find this?

In the past when some brought up Spanish Inquisition, I had been hesitant to accept the notion. But I did point out that event began in the year 1492. I had hoped someone would remember the other big event of the same year.
Not sure if it's a big event, but some of Columbus's ships reported seeing an unusual light from the surface to the sky. Some claim it was Alien in origin???

Gotcha. I don't really understand these things. I guess Dreamworks made it, then sold it to Touchstone(Disney). I didn't realize distributors owned rights. Too complicated for me, but worth a shot...

The 2011 remake of Fright Night will apparently be distributed by the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures group.
Also, did anyone else think of this movie when we started brainstorming about holidays in the Disaster! queue?

Actually Dreamworks is the studio that made it. Touchstone is the distributor. I just double checked. Not sure who owns what... Otherwise, a house related to late night horror hosts? What else could Nurmi stand for...

Has anyone considered the new Fright Night movie? It's a Dreamworks picture (which has ties to Universal). Vampira (Maila Nurmi) hosted a show called "Fright Night". The "Fright Night Film Festival" is held yearly in Kentucky and somehow has ties to Floyd county. Maybe just a coincidence, but maybe not...
Also, there's Joe Flaherty's, "Count Floyd" from SCTV, but I'm not exactly sure how that fits with "Fright Night". I also dug up some kind of Blue Grass Jamboree in Floyd county that also hosts a Fright Night.
Still, I'm well aware that there are a zillion Fright Night events. But I'm pretty sure only one Maila Nurmi who hosted a show called that.

Actually, Universal Hollywood has had a variation on the concept for the past two years now... The submissions aren't related to the houses or themes, but just scary 5 minute videos. My suggestion was in lieu of the Universal produced theme related videos (which we know some years they don't produce at all). Instead, why not show some fan created videos. Heck, they can be about past themes or icons even. Or, heaven forbid, Creative release a broad, general theme a little earlier and let the fan's creative juices flow (Isn't that what we do on these boards for months anyway?). I personally would rather see some kind of video projected on the walls whether it's related to the event or not, instead of just those house titles we've had in years past.
But like I said, it was just a thought. Ideally, I'd want long, Universal produced, theme related videos. But don't underestimate what our avid fan base can produce. I've seen amazing work done in far less time than 6 weeks.
The main reason why A&D probably won't do something like that is because of continuity. The queue videos that had been built specifically for houses, many times, were actually filmed in the house itself. Even some web promos are shot in the house (last year's Havoc and OrFanage games come to mind). An aspiring film maker outside of Universal itself wouldn't have the access to accomplish that. Also, with how late Universal seems to want to reveal the specific themes and stories of each event (end of August, beginning of September), allowing film submissions would require films to be conceived, shot, submitted, judged and selected for each individual house in the span of (tops) six weeks. While I would LOVE to see a "Submission" contest tied into HHN, to attempt something like this in such a short span of time (especially when there would be no true continuity with the house itself visually because no one eligible to compete will have seen the houses) is far too impractical to actually attempt.
I firmly believe there is potential in doing a sort of "Fan-Submitted" house of scarezone, which would allow submissions to be turned in the summer of a year prior, top-picks selected by A&D/Management from August-September and then online voting during the event with winner announced on Halloween Night. Then, the winning submitter gets to "Work with" A&D on the development of the house (get to visit the facilities, see concepts develop during the design process, etc) through out the year and then gets to see their idea come to life the following year. That would be more logistically feasible than a six-week film contest.

I know it's all about money... But I don't get why Creative doesn't get...well more creative. Do the in queue videos really have to match the houses if it costs too much to produce? What about just addressing the theme? How about having a contest and let fans create their own videos that we can watch while we wait... Once the theme gets out, let the future autuers get crackin'. Get the creators to sign a release (which of course they will) and maybe have a place to vote for a favorite which can be announced Halloween night.

Enough already! I am merely one of the many fanatical, annonymous "fan (aged)boys" who've attended HHN faithfully for over 10 years. I travel world wide raving about the event. I don't live in FL. I stay at Universal Hotels. I drag my reluctant (at least about HHN) family with me (usually with others)... Universal Creative, Emeric Belasco, Daniel Myron, God, the Devil, whoever...

Many, many, many months before the event he keeps me interested by his amazing (albeit, archaic) knowledge. If he's this good reactively, I can only imagine the original ideas he could bring to the event

I've been three times already this year and will return at least three more times. Needless to say, I enjoy the event. But, the main point I agree with is the shortness of the houses. Why aren't more people complaining about this? I've been going for the past eight years, and I can't recall a time when every house was so flipping short. Granted, unlike this reviewer, I did enjoy what was there.
Maybe I'm crazy... but I'd swear most of the houses this year lasted like four minutes tops.

I'm a long time HHN Orlando regular, but last year decided to do both (actually I did Knott's and HowlOScream as well). First thing you should know--HHN Hollywood is much cheaper. I did the VIP tour last year at Hollywood for about the same price as a Peak night and Express Pass at Orlando. In Hollywood last year, the VIP Tour included admission as well as some other special perks. As far as comparing the two experiences, Orlando has more mazes, but Hollywood has the Terror Tram (where last year on the VIP tour they let you out to explore some set areas with nothing but a flashlight). Some of the mazes seemed longer at Hollywood, but Orlando had 3 more than them last year. I actually probably enjoyed Hollywood better last year, as I hadn't been before and everything was new to me which added to the excitement and disorientation. I'm going back to both this year.
As far as Knott's, it's even larger than HHN Orlando, but the atmosphere is different. For example, some of the sccareactors in the scare zones would talk to you and pose for pictures. Don't get me wrong, I still loved it, but it had more of a carnival like feel. HowlOScream is an event I'm enjoying more and more each year. To me it's about on par with HHN Orlando, except the crowds aren't as large or unruly. They also have really cool scarezones and still use sliders.
Long story short, if I had to choose only one location, it would still be Orlando/Tampa. Aside from HHN admission, transportation, hotels, directions, etc... are so much less expensive and easier in Orlando. The distance is about the same between HHN Orlando and HowlOScream and HHN Hollywood and Knott's Berry Farm, but LA traffic is a nightmare. You've got to really know your traffic patterns and routes. Either way you decide however, you're in for a great time.

Each year there seems to be a "surprise" like that where it's DEAD on a weekend night and then a Thur or Sun is packed.
I agree that has been my experience as well. However ticket pricing gives a pretty good hint at what to expect. I would guess that Saturday, the 2nd this year probably won't be that busy either. Why? Like last year, the entire weekend before and the Sunday following are FFP days. It's unlikely FFP holders will pay for that particular night and for others who plan to go that weekend, most will opt for Friday due to cheaper prices. Later in the run, all bets are off...
I'm not even upset with the decision. I'm excited to try all new (to me) events.
