  1. So I went Friday, Sept 26th but was on vacation from my new location and didn't have time to review so here I am doing it late. Doesn't matter, let's get to it. In order. (Note. I had front of the line passes so I'm only reviewing the mazes and not mentioning the wait times).

    1. American Werewolf in London: Going to have to admit that I wasn't amazed by this one. The facade was great. The Bar was Great. But lots of it felt really lacking. The moors were kind of sad and there were a lot of dark areas between rooms where nothing happened. Sometimes a lot of that is forgivable at HHN, but the killer for me was the puppets. They looked SUPER cool. But when you're stuck standing in front of them for ten seconds it's a really weak effect. On top of that, you turn a corner and you see a wolf in front of a blanket and you know exactly what is coming...I just felt the 2nd half of the maze had too many wolf puppets and not enough character actors. I LOVE the movie but wasn't the biggest fan of the maze. 6.5/10 for the night.

    2. From Dusk Till Dawn: I wasn't a huge fan of the show but didn't mind this maze. Sure, I would've preferred a different property, but I'll be honest, this maze was great at having multiple scareactors in many rooms to keep you fooled where the scares were coming from. The cast did an outstanding job and even though it ended abruptly I thoroughly enjoyed my walk through. 8/10.

    3. AVP: This is the frustrating part of HHN. Knowing that some walk throughs will be great while others wont. In this specific case it wasn't very good at all. Might have been a crew change (probably) or something else, but for the first four rooms or so NO ONE jumped out at us. My cousin thought they were trying to 'ramp it up' for later by not having anything early, but I knew that the scares simply weren't there. With that said, the sets were really fun to look at and the middle to 2nd half of the maze were great, so I just wish I had a chance to go through again to experience it one more time (but didn't since the line was over an hour). The final scene was pretty awesome, I was tempted to take a picture and kind of regret not doing so now. My walk through wasn't amazing but I still give it 8.5/10.

    4. Walking Dead: I enjoyed the facade and maze in general, but I guess you can clump me into the group that is a bit sick of zombies at this point. I did very much enjoy the tunnel scene towards the end though, and the scareactors did an outstanding job there. The horde thing being the final scare was a bit of a letdown. 7/10.

    5. Clowns 3D: Not going to lie. I really really liked this one. It was the most messed up, goriest, grossest, scariest maze of the night for me. There were more than 1 room with 3+actors which is a HUGE plus since by now I'm usually prepared for where the scareactors are coming from. The biggest downside was the mirrors with zero scares for the first 2 full minutes of walkthrough....I didn't get that at all. Never been a maze that started as slowly in the history of HHN in my opinion. But after the slowness it was outstanding. Yes, some of the props were incredibly reused such as the Evil Dead chainsaw through the mouth chick, but I had the best walk through in this one than any other. 9/10.

    6. Face Off: Best overlay of HoH so far....by far. I thoroughly enjoyed it the whole time, and it was a nice change of pace to have a house that took a good long time to walk through. I had my hands in front of me most of the time to guard myself from dudes that would jump out, and it seriously seemed like this maze had more actors to scare you than maybe any other. Good job, crew. You did HoH justice. 8/10.

    7. Dracula: Well...I had no idea what to expect, and this maze was way weirder than the others but I enjoyed it. The long hallway is back from El Cucuy, but this time someone poked my ankles with a broomstick or something in the total darkness there so that was different. To be fair, I had my biggest scare of the night in this maze when two robot horde things attacked me from each side and then a second later something jumped at me directly in front of me. I wasn't the biggest fan of the obvious rubber masks on most of the scareactors and the horrible TV screens of fire, but still was scared pretty well in this one 7.5/10.

Terror Tram: I personally felt like this was the best tram overlay and experience that I've received from HHN in the 5 years I've gone. Outstanding job by the crew, especially the teams that would team up and wait for a group and come at them all at once and get in their face, etc. The people I was on the tram with were screaming like crazy, and it was a lot of fun. Good job crew, best overlay I've seen. Not going to rate it since TT is kind of it's own thing. Also, props to the chainsaw crew at the very end. We were all basically standing there waiting to be told to get on the next train and there was one guy who was great at scaring someone nearby and made it a hilarious experience.

Overall I had a lot of fun at HHN. I wish I had another chance to go through a few of the mazes because I know that sometimes you simply get a bad walk through and need to do it again. Unfortunately on this trip I only have my one to judge it by, but I still had a blast at the event. The sets were pretty amazing and I know I'll be back in Hollywood for it again next year. Cheers

  2. 1. AVP

    2. AWIL - Kind of goes without saying why these are at the top.

    3. Dracula - This one will be the sleeper hit of the year. No one will have seen the movie so it will basically be another original maze based around Dracula killing/torturing people in medieval dungeons. Sounds pretty cool to me.

    4. FDTD - I think this one will have some really cool environments. The temple/ruins sounds awesome.

    5. Clowns - This one should be fun but I'm not a fan of 3D mazes. Would prefer it without the glasses but it sounds like it could be cool. I like the story behind it.

    6. Walking Dead - As much as I did enjoy the last two I'm just not excited at all for this one. This season of the show bored me and while I'm sure the house won't be horrible I don't see anything being cooler than expected here.

    7. Face Off - Just going to be normal house of horrors with a few extra scareactors in the face off outfits thrown in for good measure. Meh.

  3. Yeah we haven't really seen the movie, but I have the feeling there will be quite a bit of creative freedom. Like Murdy's quote said, he's going to show a lot of the horrors that Vlad did, so there's plenty of real life material to work with.

Just kind of unfortunate that no one will be able to see the movie before walking into the maze for 3/4 of the length of HHN (movie comes out Oct 17). Not thrilled with this, but still looking forward to the line-up overall.

  4. I'm excited but nervous. Last year Murdy said Evil Dead was going to be super advanced and awesome looking and we got dummies and awful robots that are neither scary or impressive looking. He hyped up the raining blood scene and it was minsters with a red light on it...

Hopefully he sticks to puppets when possible for the xenos, but I'm concerned what the predators will look like. Actors with rubber masks? Taking on a big risk with this property and hopefully it pays off!

  5. When the video leaked announcing this IP, I was kind of bummed out because it wasn't exactly high on my list of IPs that'd make good mazes. After seeing the video and hearing Murdy talk about it though, I am quite excited!

I think the maze should have some great environments for HHN and a good variety of scareactor outfits/costumes. This could be an underdog contender for surprise house of the year. Also, it was a pretty good promotional idea by the show because I'm now planning on watching it on Netflix when it's available because it looks pretty cool!

To those complaining, it's going to be the seventh house of the event so just think of it as a bonus :)

  6. With all we've established, what else could be the FREAK OUT maze other than The Exorcist? Other than The Shining or a Stephen King property which won't happen because as far as we know Murdy won't ever get the rights, I'm having trouble trying to think of properties it could be. Orlando HHN twitter was freaking out about getting the call allowing them to do the property as well, so it's got to be something pretty exclusive. Has Murdy directly shot down any chance of Stephen King's work coming this year? Any ideas otherwise?

  7. While I was initially a little bummed with the Walking Dead announcement (especially the Terror Tram part), his explanation makes sense and it's still a new house despite the repeat IP. Also, I LOVE hearing announcements this early in the season. The picture saying that there are more houses than ever and Murdy's comment that no repeated IPs in mazes this year sounds amazing.

It seems very likely that the Purge will be a house and AWIL fits the clues so well. I'm holding on hope that The Exorcist is the freak out maze, which already sounds like an awesome lineup without the rest of the mazes. I'm pumped!

  8. So I guess maze 3 is the FREAK OUT one. So the clues that match Maze 1 to Ghostbusters kind of eliminate that from being Maze 1, since that is a FREAK OUT property.

BTW, his favorite Irish punk band is either Dropkick Murphy's or Flogging Molly. But I'm going with Flogging Molly since Dropkick Murphys only play their St. Patrick's Day shows in Boston, and I don't think Murdy travels there very often.

  9. I'm more inclined to think it's Exorcist than Ghostbusters. Keep in mind he said fans should FREAK OUT over this property, so it shouldn't be something that's been done before (i.e. Halloween).

Ghostbusters would make people freak out, but I have a very tough time imagining what the scareactors would be in this maze. There's not any 'human' looking ghosts in GB like there is in Insidious (a do-able house), and you can only have so many puppets. Every single scare can't come from animatronics/puppets.

I really have a hard time seeing how GB could work logistically.

  10. No, I get you DTH. I don't want HHN to become a total ad-fest either. Just as long as I don't see banners all over the place and ads messing up the mazes I don't think I'll mind it so much. I didn't notice the radio spot on the escalator last year, just the usual hijinks.

I'm curious to see how these themed scare zones will be. Will there be a poster advertising the dvd's, or will they just be on the map or something? Should be interesting to see.

  11. We all saw this coming, but I now kind of view the HoH as Hollywood's version of a 'spoof' house. A 'humor' house to ease up the crazy scaryness a bit. This house isn't really meant to be taken seriously, and I had fun through it last year in a 'Oh this is going to be lame and not scary' kind of way.

What else are you supposed to do with HoH. Honestly? I didn't think Vampyre was scary either. You might as well have fun with the HoH and just do something kind of silly like this each year.

  12. Murdy just confirmed AHS is not coming this year.

When asked about having more than one TV show, he said TV is competitive so it's hard to have more than one TV show represented at the event per year.

    1. @HorrorNights @DrewskiBoom (And I hope you evolve into having *two* mazes based on TV shows this year)

    2. @JoshtopusRex @DrewskiBoom I'll tell you right now that's not gonna happen and I'll tell you why...its pretty simple really...

  13. Don't you think there's something to be said about off with your head coming from Alice in wonderland, and that we've been bombarded with wonderland clues all offseason? I don't think it is a wonderland maze, but maybe an offshoot of one?
