  1. Well Murdy finally tweeted some more about the scare zone, surprisingly he didn't mention a location. However a couple key tweets does point to where it is.

"We always have a "talking" character at HHN, let's just say that you might be "auctioned off" for the purge!"

"The Purge will also factor into our opening "Scare-a-mony" and will be the theme of the GoGos, everyone is getting into the purge spirit!"

Talking character, opening scare-a-mony, GoGos...sounds an' awful lot like New York where all of that has been for years.

  2. Instead it was a very low rate action movie and a lot of the scenes just didn't work because it was obvious they needed more time and money to do the things they set out to do.

There is a fantastic irony to that comment, considering they admitted they gave the film a bigger budget to do what people wanted them to do which was have the film take place outside. The Purge: Anarchy was given a budget of 9 million, compared to first film which only had a 3 million dollar budget. (That's how Blumhouse Production works, make a film on a micro/low budget and easily rake in enough cash for plenty of sequels.)

  3. This makes sense.

I also realized that, once construction in the Mummy queue starts, we should be able to rule out certain IP's based on which end of the tent the Facade is on. Woodsy/outdoorsy facades tend to be on the side near the escalator, so if that's where they build a facade then I'd say that CitW is a very real possibility.

You won't be able to figure out the theme of the maze due to where the entrance is, after all they've been having the entrance to the Mummy venue be on the escalator side ever since Transformers opened. Add in the trams going to the Metro lot, they're just not going to have the entrance be where it used to due to lack of space for the queue.

  4. If B&T doesn't return, oof...that'll just strengthen the idea they're downright pushovers if someone get's offended by a joke.

Hopefully B&T or some show will happen this year, because I really do feel that DM and a 7th maze won't spread the crowds out as much as some think. Heck, I think the addition of a 7th maze will help increase the overall attendance, which simply adds to the crowds. Even if you don't see them, shows are surprisingly important to these events. They really do help keep a good chunk of people off the streets and the lines for the mazes, especially considering a show is much longer then a maze or ride.

  5. Wow. So much to catch up on. If Dracula: Untold is coming to HoH, I don't think the chances are high for FDTD. Again, it was supposedly coming to Orlando before it got scrapped, so...huh.

Let me catch you up to speed, the current rumor in Orlando is FDTD is replacing the original soundstage house. So it might not be scrapped after all.

Why would we need to place bets? When TWD was announced on returning it was openly announced that the Terror Tram was going to be Walking Dead themed again. You even replied "Here's my only thought about the Terror Tram: It's going to suck anyway so...." and posted a picture stating "Who cares?!?" in the Terror Tram thread in response to the announcement.

  6. For AHS, a quick reminder on what happened in Orlando last year. There were certainly talks for an' AHS house at the event, however the creators really wanted particular scenes to be featured in the house. The problem is, the scenes they really wanted in the house were scenes Universal doesn't do. The creators and Universal butted heads, then the house was scrapped due to creative differences and was replaced by the Evil Dead house.

Unless the creators of AHS bend to Universals will, don't expect AHS to happen whatsoever.

  7. With the talk of people hoping to see icons again and the rumored "Propmaster" icon that's probably not going to happen this year, it got me thinking about previous icons and I noticed something. While the event has had some great icons in the past, they've also had a good amount of icons who felt more of a face for marketing, and either wern't used much anywhere else and/or they wern't that strong in whatever house, scare zone, show they were used in.

Here's how I personally rank the icons, and keep in mind I'm looking at everything they've been used in besides the usual marketing.
There's three icons which stand out on top for me. (Also, I'm not including Eddie or Cindy in this since they've never hosted a event.)

Jack - Weather one likes or loathes how many times he's been featured, one can't deny he's been in a lot of things around the event. He's been featured in houses, scare zones, shows and even a couple rides. I feel the event has gotten great use out of him, and quite frankly I wouldn't mind if he popped up again sometime in the future.

The Caretaker - For me the Caretaker has always had a nice presence whenever he's around, and I feel that when it comes to an' Icon house, the ScreamHouse's have been the strongest icon houses out of all the others. Any time a icon has a strong house that revolves around them, it helps make them a stronger icon/character.

Bloody Mary - When it comes to having a presence in the event, Bloody Mary was all over HHN 18. She would show up in scare zones in a couple ways, she also popped up in various houses. Speaking of houses, there's Reflections of Fear...while it has the severe downside of being an' overall terrible house, I will give it this. It was a house that was focused on Bloody Mary's backstory, I really appreciate they did something like that, it's just too bad the excecution wasn't good. Either way, it was still another thing which made Bloody Mary have a strong presence.

So that was my top three in terms of icons, now for the bunch where I feel they really were just a face for marketing.

The Storyteller - Gee Hollywood, thanks for forcing an' icon onto the event who just didn't fit whatsoever into elaborate Terra Cruentas world created that year. Besides a banner or two, you didn't see the Storyteller anywhere in IOA for the event. She was only in a blip of a cameo in the Where Evil Hides house, and I don't think she fit even in that. She's popped up a couple times like in the arrival show at HHN 16 and hosted the Dungeon of Terror...but the only interesting use of her I've seen was a creepy video of her telling a story about a guy who lost a ring in the garbage disposal. Other then that, she's just not a strong icon.

Fear - I will say I like the idea behind Fear, but ultimately he was just a stilt-character photo-op in one scare zone. For someone who was supposedly in control of everything, he didn't have much of a presence in the event. Hell, I thought his minons were cooler then him.

Lady Luck - Another prime example of why you shouldn't force an' icon on the event. Didn't have much use in the event, and she only had a scare zone. But you know it's really bad when that scare zone somehow finds a way to suck in Sting Alley. This was another case where the minons were cooler then the icon, wasn't too hard considering the Lady Luck masks were terrible, seriously I felt bad for all those who had to wear the bug eyed anime masks.

Now for the remaining two, they're not the best, but also not the worst.

The Director - First off, I do know he's a big fan favorite of a icon. Heck, I really like the concept of him. But I feel his potential has never really been tapped into. There are bright moments here and there like him hosting Infestation in HHN 13 and his little bit in the Arrival show of HHN 16. But the main thing he's a part of is the All Night DIE in houses...which let's be honest here, the main star of those houses are whatever IP's are being featured in it. The Director just shows up in the beginning and end, and that's it.

I would personally love to see a house showing the Director filming his own films, like his whole backstory and concept entails. But until then, he's an' icon with great potential, but is given a backseat to IP's.

The Usher - Personally I put the Usher above the Director, even though house-wise Silver Screams falls under the same problem I have with All Night DIE in...however Silver Screams does feel a bit more tailored to it's icon with it being hosted in the Universal Palace Theater. The theater is connected to the Usher's backstory and it even shows his demise in it. Also, when it comes to connecting an' icon to IP's, I feel it works better with the Usher since said IP's would be shown in a theater.

So those are my thoughts on the icons the event has had before, while some have been fantastic...others offer a good argument that an' icon is not needed if it's not given much use in the event.

  8. Yeah, Halloween doesn't have any massive locations/set pieces that would need a soundstage to pull off. An' for reference, the awesome Halloween maze that Hollywood did years ago was in a tent structure that was smaller then Orlando's Sprung tents.

As for Ghostdude's comment, ummm...absolutely nothing? While Voodoo is hitting the streets...Native Americans are probably getting kicked out of their land by Mexicans.

  9. I have heard that the ratio changed too but could it instead be that the generic clown house is now KKFOS?

I'd say no, simply due to how on the fence things were with what's planned for the parade building. Both Cassilda and Dr. Jimmy had to hint at both From Dusk Til Dawn and the original house since it could've gone either way, that's how close it was to either of them getting built.

  10. Could Universal have changed the release date so that the movie didn't bomb before HHN and the possible house? Or are they hoping that the house will be good enough to generate a little buzz for the film?

Welcome to the boards, Grendel! An' to answer your question, I don't believe the release date was changed due to the house being at the event. A lot of times when there's a IP of a current film, the film is released way before or after the event. An' even if the film flopped before the event, the house is still made. (Dead Silence and Doomsday come to mind with that.)

An' speaking of IP's, I'm getting a rumbling or two from scources that the ratio has changed and it'll be 5 IP's to 3 originals. If that's the case, we might be taking a trip to the Titty Twister after all.

  11. *The big Dracula Untold rant*

ThNdIzNiR, it would be best if you just accept that a Dracula Untold house is happening. All the scources are pointing in that direction, and over here...if a bunch of scources/independent individuals etc. are saying there's going to be Dracula Untold house, then there's going to be a Dracula Untold house. Simple as that. The only way it's not happening is if there's a sudden change, and the scources are good at letting us know if something like that happens like with the From Dusk Til Dawn house getting replaced by the rumored Thanksgiving themed house.

So on that note, with the various scources pointing at AVP, Dracula Untold and Halloween as the other IP's...those are the ones that are gonna' happen. As Legacy has pointed out before, when a bunch of people have the same info, it's hard to deny the accuracy.

Also, calling any IP or orginal at this moment "a waste" is very premature simply because we don't know what the house fully entails and how it'll ultimately be executed. Year after year there have been promising sounding houses that turned out so-so or terrible, and on the flip side there have been houses that we didn't think much of from it's announcement, but it turned out great.

Another good thing to mention about IP's is the quality of the house can be much different from the IP it's based off from. One of the greatest examples is the film Dead Silence. The film came out in March, well before HHN 17. The film was a flop, yet HHN announced a Dead Silence: The Curse of Mary Shaw house. The film for me was so-so, but the house was downright awesome. So much so that it's in a lot of people's top 10 favorite houses lists.

So no matter how the film of Dracula Untold turns out, the house itself could be a lot of fun.

  12. I personally wouldn't be excited for AVP. Yes it's a cool movie but I didn't find anything scary or creepy in that movie.

Word to the wise, never underestimate a maze adaptation of a IP. Time and time again there have been awesome mazes from so-so movies. Case in point, over in Orlando in 2007. I didn't think much of the movie Dead Silence, but the Dead Silence: Curse of Mary Shaw house was downright awesome.

  13. Let's see, with this revealed information these are the clues I can connect to the known houses. (At the moment I don't know all the clues connected to the houses, so I'll only say what I'm certain on.)

"Crows" fit's with Cassilda's Clue #14, Dr. Jimmy's Cryptic Performance 13a and b. An' the cat pictures of a Native American Cat and a Mayan God Cat. The scources wasn't sure if this was going to be a From Dusk til' Dawn house, or a original house based on Thanksgiving. So both Cassida and Dr. Jimmy hinted both at the same time with their clues. (Food, Glorious Food is the matching cryptic performance for the house to be built.)

"Charlie" fit's with Cassilda's Clue #13 (Both Amanda and Annabelle are well-known haunted dolls), and the cat doll picture from Dr. Jimmy. (Not certain on the cryptic performance. Both 11 or 12 could fit.)

"Smile" fit's with Dr. Jimmy's Cryptic Performance #2 (You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile), it fit's well with clowns who usually have a constant smile painted on their face. The cat picture with the clown face certainly fits this as well. Cassilda's Clue #4 and #10 fit the best here, possibly the whole Who am I? as well.

"Ritual" fit's with Cassilda's Clue #7 and Dr. Jimmy's Cryptic Performance #9, and the cat under a bed picture. This one's interesting due to it's pointing to both a ritual/summoning gone wrong, and some sort of Boogeyman. CC's clue points to the ritual/summoning part. While Dr. Jimmy's performance of "Kiddy Widdy Winkies" refers to the Child Catcher of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, he goes after children. An' children are certainly prey to the boogeyman.

"Evac" - CC #2, and the cat picture with the Xenomorph. Dr. Jimmy's CP #6 (Stars)

"Home/Captain, who cares, IT'S HALLOWEEN!" - CC #1, the cat picture with the big knife that Myers is a fan of. Dr. Jimmy's CP #7 (Home)

"Synergy" - CC #12, the cat picture wearing a vampire cape. Dr. Jimmy's CP #10 (I get a kick out of you)

The Purge SZ - CC #5, Dr. Jimmy's CP is tricky...I'm leaning more towards #1 (Masquerade), however for some strange reason...#5 (Rainbow High) seems like it could fit as well. As for the cat pictures, oh holy heck. The one wearing the masquerade mask fits due to everyone wearing masks, but the news picture of them taking back the streets fit's as well.

That's what I got so far...could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain on most.

  14. With the rumors of Alien going pretty strong in Orlando, for me Alien is certainly possible for Hollywood. Now I do recall Murdy tweeting that the budget for something like Alien would be "Astronomical", however with the way he tweeted that it didn't come off as "We're not doing Alien because the budget would be astronomical". He just simply stated that the budget would be astronimical.

The carny tricks can be pulled in simple statements, just like the infamous one that people bought hook, line and sinker about him working with Alice Cooper. All he tweeted was he'd love to work with him, but never met him in person. Now a whole lot of people thought a Alice Cooper maze was totally not happening, until the maze was announced and Murdy confirmed my thoughts. Sure, he never met him in person. Via phone and email was a whole 'nother story.

  15. So 4 IP's and 4 original houses? That's nicely balanced and I look forward to seeing what's coming, and I won't lie, I really hope Alien is coming since that was one of the first horror films I've ever saw. The very first was American Werewolf in London, so if A&D treats Alien with the same respect and enthusiasm...it's gonna' be terrifying in the best way possible.

As for Dracula Untold being a house, it's certainly possible. An' a word to those who're worried about that since the film isn't out, Orlando has done great work with IP's that have been so-so. One of the best examples was from 2007, Dead Silence: The Curse of Mary Shaw. While the film itself was so-so, the house was awesome and quite frankly it was the biggest surprise that year.

  16. When you think about it, it's not that hard for them to get 4-5 IP's that haven't been done before as mazes. An' it's incredibly easy if you take things in a carny trick. (eg, the Purge was never featured as a maze before)

I can't wait till AHS comes to HHN and blows WD out of the water. FREAKSHOW should be awesome.

That's only if things go smoothly between Hollywood and the creators of AHS, remember over in Orlando AHS was shelved due to creative differences. AHS was very firm on having particular scenes featured in the house, one's that Universal Orlando didn't want to do. The end result is plans for a AHS were shelved and Evil Dead took it's place.

  17. This article confirms it's a soundstage.

    http://www.bizjournals.com/tampabay/prnewswire/press_releases/Florida/2014/06/09/FL44947

Universal Orlando's maze will be the largest maze ever created at Halloween Horror Nights. It is literally double the experience and will feature more scareactors in one single haunted house than ever before. Guests will encounter iconic scenes from Season 4 of the hit show – beginning at the prison, fans will enter the cell block where the infection began, escape into the massive Big Spot location with a crashed helicopter ripping through its ceiling and journey to the dilapidated country club overrun with walkers. These and other incredibly immersive environments culminate to the maze's finale taking you to the End of the Line – Terminus. This year's maze will be an entirely new experience, featuring never-before–seen walkers and brand new scares.

"Bringing a horror property back for a third year in a row is always a decision that is carefully considered. Fortunately, The Walking Dead is unlike any horror brand around. Its appeal spreads across so many types of viewers. Hardcore and casual horror fans alike are watching week after week, and season 4 offered many new and unique environments and walkers," said Michael Aiello, Creative Development Director for Universal Orlando's Entertainment team. "This year, we are taking this partnership to the next level, with a monstrous soundstage maze and a scope that is bigger and badder than anything we've ever done in the history of our event."

  18. Here's what the tweet said

There is MUCH more to come for HHN 2014 HOLLYWOOD, all of the maze properties to come HAVE NEVER BEEN FEATURED AT THE EVENT. Stay tuned...

It's definitely maze properties that have never been featured at the event before, so that probably does exclude the Purge from being a maze. Though the Purge could be a returning scare zone.
