Do you think HHN will bring back the smell of death?
I enjoy their smells in their houses but if it's only sweet smells, then it gets boring.

You are giving me terrible flashbacks of almost getting sick in the 2004 Psycho Scareapy house, that bathroom with the poop smell was so bad, I feel bad for the scare actors in that room.

    Lagoon show announced:

The lagoon show sounds cool however it not something I am going to go out of my way to go see, that being said I am concerned about the audio and lighting from the show bleeding into Central Park and killing the vibe of Vikings and to a lesser extent San Fran and Zombie

They've done screens before.  They can spend a little and jazz it up again.

What they can do with intelligent lighting and projection mapping could make the front gate look incredible.  Daytime show wouldn't be affected.

Since the area right in front of the gate\security gets super crowed having the projector tower right in the middle of that area might cause even more congestion, thou I like the idea. I miss the themed entrances from back in the day.

I've never had any issues bringing my DSLR, Lenes, GoPro and Video Camera in either in a backpack, messenger bag, or just hanging on my shoulder.   I've even brought in a monopod and I know others carry a compact/travel tri-pod as well.

We'll see what happens this year with the security setup they have now.

Interesting, I have never knew you could bring a mono pod in the gates during HHN or Regular Hours. I understand mileage will vary per day.

  5. All this talk about two parks, and I'm curious how many here have hoofed it from Jurassic Park to Men in Black. It's not easy, and it's definitely not fun.

There is a lot of truth to this for those who didn't experience it in 2004 well it may seem like a good idea 2004 was a beating walking from Spider Man to Beetlejuice.

  6. This meal thing is only the first 2 weeks, right?  If not, my friends and I would (literally) eat it up and sign up in heart beat.  The food isn't high end cuisine by any stretch, but it sure beats most of the cafeteria food in Universal.  And for the photo ops with the scareactors alone, it would be well worth it.

I would say this is just a trial run to see if it profitable and to see if people are interested. We probably wont see it return for the rest of the event but if it profitable we will see it return in full force next year.

  7. Anyone who attended HHN16 and/or HHN17, can you please mention your experience with having a show in this location and how it affected the scare zone in CP?

06 - Went on a busy Saturday and I don't recall any issues with the scarezone.
07 - Went on a Saturday night the area around the stage was packed but we where able to get around it  there were no scarezones this year due to New Lines Restrictions on the event

However you can't compare the Pre-TWD era to Present day. The crowds have grown expediently on a hell night (Legacy Term not mine) that area will become a traffic nightmare. I personally have always love the stage show in front of Mels but after talking to Legacy I can see why there are concerns.

  8. Thanks. I had my doubts that was the blender. Putting one random prop on the stage before a set is even built would be bizarre even by Universal standards. They still need house speakers and amps for the RTU bands to plug into. Those would be put on stage before anything associated with HHN.

I am glad I could clear that up for you Legacy :)

  9. Here's the thing: if that is where Jack's show is going to be, then I'll be curious to see how long the show last. They cut a show in the same spot last year because it was too long and the crowds were too big (supposedly). Are they thinking a show featuring Jack will be less of a draw, or will this confirm the Voodoo sacrifice was cut for other reasons? I wouldn't be shocked (again, if that is Jack's show) it's less than 10 minutes long or it gets cut after opening weekend. Again.

I am not sure I understand all the complaining about the "Jack Show" stage location (if it is indeed in front of mels). They have used this location during previous icons shows and had no issue at all.

Yes, understand that attendance has skyrocketed since then,

  10. I'm liking the look of those tickets. Also, holy shit, everything that would actually be on the Publix display was revealed already. They've FINALLY LEARNED.

It's kinda a double edge sword.

On 1 hand your not revealing the entire event early.

On the other hand what happens if the GP is not interested in either of the IP listed on the display you could potentially lose those customers by not enticing them with more.

  11. Amen brother!!  I don't have to fly all the way from Canada, but Chicago is far enough.  Every year, i envy these people here who can get a FFP and go any time they want.  I am lucky in that my family owns a condo not far from the park, so that takes a huge cost out of it for me - but I still fly down with my fiancee and our best friend three separate weekends.. and yes, it costs.  But to me, it's worth it

See the trick to going especially if you traveling long distances to come is fly in on a Wednesday and get a FFP.

This allows you to go 2 nights for the cost of 1 admission. Hell this year due to the dates I am going I get 3 nights for the price of 1

  12. I get where you're coming from, but you would be doing yourself and everyone else a disservice by simply being happy they put on the event.  All of us that attend pay a loooot of money to do so. Therefore I'll never just settle for being happy they threw sometime together.  And sure, more actors, one extra house, but still not as many zones as there used to be.  And...they increased ticket prices to offset that. With the amount of money this event makes, we should have 12+ houses and many more scare zones and shows.  Those of us that have been attending for 10+ years have seen them do A LOT more with less budget.  What's actually going to happen is they'll hit their peak in the next few years and then people will say enough is enough (already happening).  The cost/benefit ratio is getting out of hand for many.  Attendance will start to plunge like any cyclical trend.  Then they'll start doing up charge houses which will open another revenue stream.  Once those open, they don't typically close.

TL:DR - I've said it a lot this week; I'll bitch about parts of the event, I know what the current M.O. Is, but I'll have fun regardless.

I disagree with the attendance plunging because as 1 generation of fans gives up on the event for what ever reason a new generation will take its place.

  13. I rarely post and just simply read. However, I do have a suggestion... a new thread should be created and reserved for members who do not wish to attend HHN (which a few members have stated) and choose to continue ranting over how things are going down the "commercialized" tubes.

I for one enjoy HHN and what it brings each year and am willing to pay the ticket prices offered. I must say that I started late in terms of beginning my attendance at HHN (2008 to present) and regret not going to earlier years. My wife and I are happy making this our yearly getaway and give many thanks to UO for putting this on. /endrant

I wont lie I miss the golden years but I still take my vacation in October and fly home from Texas to attend the event every year and I still manage to enjoy myself even if it is an expensive night(s) drinking with close friends

Like I said a couple of pages back "The event is what you make it." Sure you might not like the IP's from one year to another but you can still go an enjoy yourself. Hell my favorite thing from last year was standing in the purge scare zone and watching the scare actors blend in with the crowd and watching them scare the hell out of someone.

The event to me is the Atmosphere that Park has when the show lights are on and the fog is running. The event has never been scary to me but I enjoy watching other people get the crap scared of them.

Am I disappointed this year is not a retro year like Sweet 16 sure but I am still going to go and make the most out of it
