  1. I thot these FB pages weren't legit? I read here that there was one for like all the big icons and it was believed to be run by the same fanboy not with Univ.

Yeah I really doubt it means anything, just thought I would share.

...OR MAYBE IT'S A CINDY VS PREDATOR HOUSE!

  2. I think Uni is laughing their asses off at all the energy and thought being put into the search for faces and images in the flames. Of course they threw gasoline on the flames (pun intended) with the actual faces on the flames coming out of the lantern on the second update, but seriously, before we continue with the hunt, there is something called matrixing. It is the minds ability to find familiar shapes in complex patterns. Take a look at the artciles below;

Just throwing that out there as I hate to see anyone continue this hunt which is kinda ridiculous. Uni put those faces in the second update because they knew someone would find them. This update of course has more flames and more fire so there will be the inevitable search and scouring of every last one. I think it is a snipe hunt. This is to throw us off the scent as they continue there masterful job of hinding the details of the event. They took every step to protect the permits this year and the very slow and methodical reveal of the website and then the announcement from Aiello that 70% of the roles were code names suggests a huge desire for secrecy. The Lantern's shape and then the flames are big distractions. I like the fact that they included the blueprint/concept photos this update. That is some juicy stuff we can discuss. Well, this is just my 2 cents. Can't wait for another update!

    Cheers!!!

    F.U.B.A.R.

Hooray! I agree! If you stare at anything long enough you'll start to see things in it anyway. I'm betting we get another update within the week. I'm sure there will at least be more photos added, so then we can have some useful speculation. I feel like we've learned more from one of those photos than days of staring at that lantern.

  3. I see screamface and Dr. Jonathan Crane...

...which goes to show you that I probably failed a few rorschach tests

Hahah, Dr. Crane would fit in, seeing as he uses the gas to make peoples worst fears come to life. A Batman villain themed year would be pretty cool in my opinion. :)

I must have a terrible imagination. I never see these faces in anything. HHNRumors said that "It's coming on July 31st". Think we'll get another update so fast, or think that's for something else?

  4. Before this post I was thinking about where the flames came out of the lantern, but I was unable to determine this on my own. Given JWFearman's high-tech ability, it is obvious that the icons' presence in both the flames and their respective frames of the lantern is not a coincidence. I am not one who regularly tries to see things on HHN websites, but there is clearly something to be said about this lantern and its contents. The only icon that I could not recognize in the frame was the Director, but as gwarfan points out, you can see a profile of a person, but it doesn't look like our good friend Paolo. However, it must be. Then, thinking of "wasted space," I started looking at the other frames and noticed some things. The bottom frame (opposite the flashlight) appears to have a bow, which has been pointed out before. It was said to be Cindy's bow, and is appropriately placed over what appears to be a "C" in the lantern's frame. Also, to the left of the bow appears another side profile: could this be the Nightmare Man either hunting Cindy or being called by Cindy? Then, in the upper, right frame (above the flashlight) I see another face, but only one eye, part of the mouth, and a finger pointing upwards. I noticed this about a week ago, but thought nothing of it. Who is this? It looks like the Caretaker, but of course this is left up to your imagination. The only remaining frame appears to contain letters and I have fully exhausted myself from figuring it out. But it appears to be QGLC, which leads to one dead end after another. I even held a mirror up to the computer screen (as a tribute to Bloody Mary) and the reflection doesn't appear to yield anything besides "Jer," or something like that. I wanted to post this to see if anyone else is as crazy as I am and sees these other things (again, a habit in which I don't often partake) and to figure out if there are indeed other things in the three remaining frames of the lantern.

In the picture below, I did my technological best to highlight the features as best as I could. The red resembles the five icons, the blue are the two images that I mentioned above, and the green encompasses the "letters." I also circled mouths and eyes to make skeptics (some of whom are my own friends) see the figures a little better. Again, sorry for the bad quality (I would compare the image to JWFearman's original one) and remember, I'm not really that crazy.

I honestly tried for a good 15 minutes to see all of these. I find it amusing that you ended this post with "Im not really that crazy". I still don't see the director in the lantern. I think Gwarfan was saying he could see the director in the flame, but didn't say anything about the lantern. At least that's what I got out of his post. So I don't think his face is in the lantern. I see the glasses, pocketwatch, flashlight. Jack I can see, but the frame below (with the flashlight) looks more like a clown to me than the one above. But I can see it. Cindy's bow I suppose I can see also, but it doesn't really look like a bow. It looks like they just made a shape and it happens to be similar to a bow. I see the "20" though. I'm just not sure why some would be blatantly obvious and some would be horribly obscure and hard to see. I really tried to see the "nightmare man", "caretaker" and the letters... it's just not happening. Maybe I just need Figment to teach me how to use my imagination. I think using logic and reason, I see what's put in front of me. But who knows, maybe it's just me.

  5. We have a Treak!

    UPDATE: Treak #2

I will go ahead and assume Hollywood...

Treak as in one of Cindy's playthings? Perhaps Cindy will have a larger role in the event?

For those who may not know what a Treak is... (from Cindy's backstory)

TREAKS & FOONS - Warped combinations of circus freaks and cartoon characters, the mischievous Treaks and Foons thrive on scares. The odd creatures need the power of screams to feed their very souls.

Inhabited by TREAKS (females) and FOONS (males), this is place where nothing is as it seems and none of it is good. Neutered (and not very happy about it), bloated and full of nasty surprises, TREAKS and FOONS have genetically mutated and as a result, smile all time… ALL THE TIME. Their voices are gigglish gibberish and their conversations are playing throughout the island. They always carry “treats”; bouquets of balloons (which they will promptly pop in your face when they offer one as a present), bouquets of flowers (that spit), and all manner of hand pranks (hand buzzers, bike horns, popper guns, fake ketchup/mustard bottles, whoopee cushions, snake cans, noise makers, pizza boxes full of rubber dog doo, plastic puke lollipops, etc.) The ground is covered with pieces of blister pack bubble wrap and you never know when you’ll step on one that pops like a firecracker. They roller blade, bound around on bounce boots, and pop out of hiding places to offer their “treats.” As annoying as they are scary, by the time you get out of TWISTED TOONS, you’ll hope to never see a TREAK or FOON again.

  6. Im not buying any of it. The HHN logo could have been easily photo shopped off the banner on the current site and the photo of the women looks way to fake be anything actually in the parade building. If this was actually from inside the parade building I would expect to see a set piece or something that proves where in a museum. Not some badly drawn image of what clearly is suppose to be Bloody Mary.

Agreed. How is this picture supposed to be in the parade building? Is it supposed to be a picture on the wall, or a drawing somewhere in the house? It doesn't make sense.

  7. Where did he single you out for saying that? He was talking to everyone.

also, someone posted a possible hint about the Disaster house... "I'll be home for the holidays"... Possible Christmas house again?

Anyone know anything about The_Insider? "I'll be home for Christmas. You can count on me". Think it means anything?

  8. The reason people have been saying Bloody Mary won't be back this year is because of Universal not reknewing thier license to use her like they did in '08. Which, if you ask me, is a crying shame because I really liked Bloody Mary hah But yeah...thats why nobody is talking about her being apart of this years festivities.

Oh that's right, I do remember reading about that. That's too bad since she's such a big part of Carey, Ohio. If they were to use Carey, I wonder how it would be done without Bloody Mary.

  9. I feel like I'm the only one who didn't like Dead Exposure. I just felt silly walking through the house with glow in the dark zombies. The only reason it wasn't a complete fail was due the the photography backstory, and the room where you had to navigate your way through the zombie crowd. I don't think black and white houses work, and a scarezone would just be a disaster in my opinion.

I believe that Carey, Ohio will be back in some form this year, as Voorhees has been saying for awhile now. I really hope they connect all the icons back to the history of the town, but that would have to include Mary Agana. I have seen people saying that she will not return this year? Is this just because she wasn't in the Shadows of the Past scarezone? I may be behind on information so correct me if I'm wrong. The family tree/genealogy concept is interesting and would be an easy way to connect backstories. Maybe a significant event in each icons story occurred in Carey, Ohio? Perhaps Carey is located on a Hellmouth which could have influenced the icons? I'm just throwing stuff out there for pure speculations sake.

  10. I don't post very often, but I've been trying to see how everything we "know" (or think we know) and the placeholder website might just be tied together. I'm going with the idea that Cindy is going to be a pivotal character in this year's event and that her father, Albert Caine, is trying to raise her (or has already risen her) from the dead. I'll try to keep this brief (I know it is hard for me), but I'm a person who likes to gather information and analyze it before just rambling about tons of ideas; I guess that's the science background talking.

So . . . we know that Cindy is dead and that Albert has been investigating ways to find the souls of his poor victims, right? What if this year is all about Albert Caine searching through the years past of HHN to find a proper soul for his daughter. Think about it. Why did Universal give us those four specific pictures on the updated site? I really don't think it is random. Dr. Caine is searching places such as the Island of Immortal SOULS (Nightmare) and the Harvest of SOULS (Punpkin Head) as a starting point; it is also not a coincidence that these were represented in last year's Shadows of the Past scarezone. The next piece of the puzzle, how to make the sacrifice to bring Cindy back? Easy, use Eelmouth who welcomed people to the Terra Queen throne (part tree) to make sacrifices for her so that she can contine to live. It is also in the backstory that the Terra Queen comes back every five years, which would be very convenient since this marks the fifth year since 2005.

Now, for the other characters in the scarezone last year . . . the gentleman, the skool kid, and the vampire are merely secondary characters whose souls can be used to make the sacrifice. It's not by chance that Albert and Cindy Caine were the only two main "icons" walking around on the ground; Albert as if he was looking for someone and Cindy as if she was just brought back from the dead to join the HHN party. He was literally searching through HHNs past to find the proper soul. It also makes sense that Jack led us into the scarezone as he was the first icon in the modern HHN timeframe and that Julian was ushering us out of the scarezone as he was the most recent icon. He also held a flashlight to help Albert find his soul from both the physical beings (scareactors in the scarezone) and the audio "beings" (the sounds from the audio track).

I can see this year having Icon houses (reimmagined, of course) that represent us voyaging along with Dr. Caine on his quest. Screamhouse has been one of the best series of houses and I can see it, or the infamous tree that has been discussed time and again) being the (if not one of the) main "icons" this year. However, I am still going back on my hunch that I have posted before regarding the Skoolhouse. I really think it will make its reappearance this year given its significance in 2008.

Sorry this was so long - I hope it made some sort of sense.

    -- Voorhees

So Albert Caine is going to take the souls from the other past icons in order to find one for Cindy? Some of the icons are "dead"; do dead people have souls to take? Maybe Albert will collect souls to make one super-soul for Cindy, then she will take over! :)

Or were you thinking the past icons will assist Albert as Dante was saying? I don't like this as much though.

    Cool idea :)

  11. There was a Body Collector, we found out in 2008 that the Body Collectors were active in Victorian London, what if they were active in Ancient times?

Or, what if the roots of our icons run truly very very deep, and they are somehow twisted incarnations of ancient gods and figures of myth? A dark pantheon, so to speak?

If so Jack could = Dionysus the trickster god, and Eddie = Ares god of war.

The Caretaker and Cindy could be a modern version of the myth of Hades and Persephone.

The Director could be a dark Apollo and the Usher an evil Hermes.

The Storyteller might be a twisted version of Athena goddess of wisdom, or even one of the three fates.

And the there's Bloody Mary who is "safe" when she is only seen in a mirror but becomes deadly when she emerges from it. Medusa?

This is a really cool idea! Each icon representing an even more twisted version of their corresponding God/Goddess. However, we are probably looking too far into the names for the house permits, but who cares.. it's speculation!

  12. As for why they are bringing back the old icons, maybe they are just getting closure? Have them all at the park for the last time to say goodbye, so we can have a brand new set of icons the following years.

Also, going back to the "I want new original ideas every year!" discussion... Sweet 16 was the reunion, which was acceptable at that time right? 17 had the NLC characters which I thought was great because I love the movies. It's not like they had done these houses and just repeated houses again. Sure we've seen the movies, but it's great to see them as a house too, especially since how they have changed the horror genre. Then 18 WAS completely original with one of the best websites/Legendary Truth. And 19 was during a bad economic time, so I believe they used that year to make as much money as possible by getting the general public more interested in coming by doing something more familiar to them. The Usher was also original... So I say, stop complaining about never getting original ideas anymore and just enjoy the event... who know's what's to come in the following years.
