  1. OH SHIT!!!

A few things. The big one for me: Bloomberg mistakenly published an obituary or steve jobs at one point, and when rumors started going around that he died, he went on Apple's "key note" and said "Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." quoting Mark Twain!

Colfer has a new novel coming out in the Fall of 2011 called "Plugged".

(wikipedia) Plugged, by Eoin Colfer, is an upcoming Noir/Crime Novel due for release in Fall of 2011. The first glimpse of a cover was shown in a 2011 interview on YouTube with Artemis Fowl Confidential. It is now up on Amazon and the publisher's webpage in a slightly revised format.

And as for Peter falk, he did Murder, Inc which is named after an actual gang in the 1920's.

(wikipedia) Murder, Inc. (or Murder Incorporated or the Brownsville Boys; known in syndicate circles as The Combination) was the name given by the press to organized crime groups in the 1920s through the 1940s that resulted in hundreds of murders on behalf of the American Mafia and Jewish Mafia groups who together formed the early organized crime groups in New York and elsewhere. The name was a journalistic invention.

  2. I wish to put my vote in for the return of Rocky Horror i have the urge to do the time warp and sing Hot Patootie with the cast....who agrees :timewarp:

We generally skipped the review, but we went for the first time two years ago, and I loved the idea of it. The actors weren't amazing... (no offense if some are on here), so I would love to see it done with a better cast.

Plus, it's hard to go wrong with Rocky Horror. Not impossible, but hard.

  3. Interstellar Terror was one of my favourite houses in '08. They did a good job on that then.

I wasn't a huge fan of this house only because I feel like Uni has the ability to make you feel like you're in SPACE. I just felt like I was walking around a trashy spaceship set. I would want that feeling of being far away from any kind of help what so ever.

I mean, imagine like I said walking through a cockpit and seeing earth and all the stars outside the window while you're being attacked

  4. So, as for wishful thinking, I would like to see a new "futuristic" house, cause I dont think Uni has gotten it right just yet. Something like Jason X kind of stuff. Space serial killer, spaceship feel where you walk through a hallway or a cockpit where you feel like you're looking out into space just as someone sneaks up behind you...

  5. bruinsfan, I think you made the exact list I would have. Good job.

Also, I would have to agree I dont see the big deal of catacombs. It was a great house, but I have definitely been through better.

As for a few more to add to bruinsfan's I wouldnt mind seeing again:

-"Run" style chainlink fence, MAZE feel houses.

-"superstitions" the idea of mental psychological fears brought to life

-"house of wax" only for the confusion between props and real scareactors

-"Creatures!" with the redneck, shotgun alien battle sequel. Who wins?!?

  6. It seems to me that this more closely resembles HHN 19 where the backstory is not so much the icon as it is the building influencing the icon. HHN 19's Universal Palace Theater was an entity of it's own that affected those around it. While Julian was protective of her she was ultimately responsible for the deaths. Perhaps this casino is in close proximity with that.

I think this is a great point, and it's very possible we'll see something along these lines. Maybe we'll be seeing a specific fictional casino or "House" to go through. But if you also think back to HHN19, it was also the year of the three Chuckie, Wolfman, and Saw, which all had their own houses. So maybe we'll see a list of characters dealing with Fate, Chance, Luck etc. who will have their own backstory and theme, as well as a main icon that has the connection to the fictional casino/House.

  7. One more thing: Could this mean we will be seeing a return of Ghost Town, the best HHN maze thqat no one ever talks about? One can only hope. Wow, I'm actually excited about this, after only one little teaser. Of course there is still plenty of time for it all to fall into the crapper, so let's just wait and see. In the meantime color me cautiously optimistic.

I was just talking about Ghost Town in the wishful thinking thread, and based on the update, I would love to see the old school western blackjack table as opposed to any Las Vegas modernized theme.

  8. Please be patient with me. I just got a smartphone on Saturday and I am learning how to use the hnn app. My question is why can't I see an update on the hhn website on my phone but I can see it on a PC?

I was having the same problem while I was on vacation. If you try to pull up halloweenhorrornights.com on your phone's browser it will only send you to a generic information sight, and houses are still up from last year. I haven't found a way yet to view the actual sight on a smart phone (ateast an iPhone, which is what I'm using)

  9. How many of the originals did you go through before going through the rehash/sequel? If all you know is the return than it's great, but it doesn't do a blasted thing for people who remember the original fondly.

All the ones I listed, I went through their originals and sequels (minus People Under The Stairs) and enjoyed them all immensely. I liked the idea of seeing a sequel or a house that I enjoyed in years past. Im not saying they necessarily were better, but I think they at least did them justice, and made for great houses.

Besides, at least it's not an every year sequel, like HoS

  10. I think it would do better as a house; the decorations around the park are kind of "set" as they are, so you can't really make any changes other than adding removable props. When placed in a soundstage, you can make all the buildings and interiors to truly immerse you instead of the whole thing being zombies in flannel.

Agreed, but I'd have to say the War of the Living Dead scarezone did pretty well for me. And I'm thinking something along those lines, only with flats and facades along one side of the street and moveable props/fixtures throughout. Something to give the illusion of a strip of stores and saloons. You could even make one or two accessible, kind of like the Skool House. But yeah, I would have to agree it would make a better HH.

It's not about standards. It's the fact that I distinctly remember most of every house I've been through (If I do it more than twice, I'll remember almost all of it). I didn't even go through Frightanic and I recognized Ship of Screams as Frightanic-Lite. I am firmly against rehashes, repeats and (unless it coherently continues the story) sequels.

That I'd have to disagree with. The majority of rehashes or sequels I enjoyed quite a bit. Scream House, Psychoscareapy, Scary Tales, People Under The Stairs. I think the key is to not take the concept of an older house and call it something else. (I.e. Frightanic/Ship of Screams)

  11. The idea has been occasionally kicked around, especially in terms of a revival of 2004's Ghost Town. I think it could potentially be a very interesting experience, though veterans might find it too similar to what we had 7 years ago.

Then again, if you're complaining that it's too similar to a house that hasn't been seen in 7 years you probably need to adjust your standards.....

Yeah, I remember Ghost Town. I was a pretty big fan of that one. Maybe then for more of a scarezone than a house, but to actually create a old western zombie hoard. Spare no expense on packing 50 scareactors into one scarezone (half way exaggerating on the number) and set them amidst dilapidated saloons and general stores. Yeah buddy! I'd be more rightly scared than a jack rabbit pounced on by a bobcat, dun diddily!

  12. Now, with that, the silence of the Library could add a lot, and I would love to see the visuals of "Readers" having their mouths sewn shut to keep them quiet (in accordance with the Library rules). Honestly, I think it would be creepy, if we're going to have an icon, to have the Librarian have no mouth. Make it be a birth defect, which is why she got into reading (nothing else she could do). Her deformity led to her being constantly teased, which is why she turned evil and turning the stories she read into nightmarish reimagings. Initial images can show her using a book to hide her face, but the book drops and she has no mouth. Just nothing beneath her nose.

Ah, crap... I think I just came up with a good idea for the icon I don't want...

    O.O

I shit my pants a little...

  13. It's hard to bake a cake when even the servers, kitchen manager, and dish washers want to add or change ingredients.

haha I think that's the perfect way to describe Uni.

As for the updates, I'd think they're truly trying to get everything set I stone before they update. I mean, theyve been hardcore secretive this year compared to what I've seen in the past. They're probably just holding out until every tiny minute detail is straight.

  14. HORRORORLANDO Posted Yesterday, 09:37 AM

Ah, but up-scares become more and more popular....2009 had a feral bride in Dracula:Legacy of Blood at bout 10 ft up and there was a clear view of the ceiling when she was there. It did detract for me, but I am only one.

    Mae

There have been several houses with "up scares", and I would have to agree that seeing past the faux ceilings can definitely take you out of the mood. Dracula's bride and wolfman both crawled over the crowd on suspension. I will say, however, that there have been moments where I have enjoyed being able to see the ways they have made a scare or set the mood for certain rooms. But as a general note, I would much rather be "backstage" seeing this than in the middle of a scare.

  15. I don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with an extreme house, but I don't think HHN will ever do it, simply because they have a lot more traffic than HoS. You think the lines for the regular houses get bad, imagine how it would be for an extreme house at HHN.

  16. Oh, that really sucks; although it sounds like a great plan in theory...I guess there'll always be idiots who enjoy ruining things like this for others. Maybe, if they decide to do something in total darkness (like in a cave, for example) they will just have 'ta find some other way to highlight the scare-actors.

This may be a stupid question, but does anyone know why they serve alcohol at the event? I doubt the people attending are on some sort of extreme liquor-binge or anything like that. Meh, the point of it just goes right past my head...it seems like, by not allowing alcoholic beverages, that there might be a few less drunk d-bags running around.

The fact that they serve alcohol own the problem, it's that some people don't know their limits when it comes to being in public places, like theme parks.

But I must admit, the themed drink for the year is pretty amazing. Fear in a glass was soooooo good. Another reason why I can't wait for this year's theme!

  17. I'm on vacation, no access to a computer, and the only HHN website i can see is the mobile version. If something happens while I'm here, I'll be pissed.

As for scary tales, I think we're all in agreement that it would be amazing to have again, but judging by the way they've tied the Scary Tales houses in with the years themes in the past, it would make sense to have a revised ST in a literature based theme. Maybe a possible storybook scary tales. The Evil Giving Tree, Curious George who's curious about what your insides look like.

  18. I'm going to put this in wishful thinking since it's probably not true, but someone that worked at uni came in and we were talking about HHN, and he was saying that he heard through the grapevine that Eddie was making an appearance this year. Now of course since I've heard that all of the old characters are at rest for a while I didn't know what to think, but figured I would share

I'd say that's worthy of "speculation". But if any icons were to make a return, Eddie would be the one I'd want to see.
