  1. I went the 10th and he was nowhere to be found. Only a zombie with a chainsaw (might have been Eddie I didn't get a good look at him) I don't even think the butcher shop scene was there

It might've been a cast change. Out of the 32 times I did the house, the only times Meatz was missing was during a cast change. They threw Eddie in Icons for the last weekend or two, so if you didn't see him then, that's why.

  2. This was about the floor level boo holes being utilized in the candy room corridor.  I've probably had 5-6 runs since you posted about that addition, including a final go through last night, and I never saw those boo holes used.  I was bummed out.  Anyone else see them being utilized?  Perhaps due to the incident with the kicked scareactor they decided to forego those floor level scares?  But then again, the actor laying on the ground in Body Collectors was still there.

I never saw them, I kept looking though.

That ended up being the only night I saw them utilized. I was pretty bummed, as it was good placement.

  3. My super early predictions for HHN26:

    1 park, 9 houses, 2 shows, 6 zones.

4 IP, 5 original houses, 1-2 IP zones.

NO Walking Dead. There is too much evidence pointing towards it NOT coming back for me to believe this is finally happening. Possible IPs: Purge (90% sold on a house in Parade building and a zone in NY), Conjuring (very likely, especially after Insidious' immense success), something Evil Dead related, Ghostbusters, Underworld, Resident Evil (Mike said he wanted to tackle it again), etc.

For originals, I say 2 sequels, 3 new. Nightingales, Urban Legends, LT, and Catacombs all have the potential to return. My money's on the first 3.

Only reason I say no to 10 houses for next year is this year one house was a complete repeat, save new wolves and transitions, and a LOT of content this year, from props to costumes and more, were reused. Yes, they reuse stuff every year, but with the amount of sequels and callbacks this year, I've a feeling it was more than normal. So next year's budget will have to cover 9 regular sized new houses, and having 1-2 sequels will help lessen the blow. IF (and it's a big if imo) we see a 10th house, then it would have to be a 2 park event .

My first prediction on a house lineup:

    Purge (parade building)

    The Conjuring (tent 1/2)

    Army of Darkness (SS)

    Current IP (SS)

    Nightingales 2 (SS)

    Urban Legends (Tent 1/2)

    original (SS)

original (Shrek, technically a 5th SS)

original (NEW location. My guess is the new parade building being built)

*Legendary Truth (possibly an up charge  interactive experience) that's more wishful thinking than anything

Twister's closing doesn't affect queues for SS's enough to cancel the 4th SS. There is SO much room around the SSs to make up for the thin strip of real estate behind Twister used for a queue. Have an entrance next to DM, Rockit Plaza and NY facade like normal. Then, have the 4th SS enter next to the Twister restrooms. Use the M&M/AWiL exit for Rockit Plaza express queue, have all 4 exit by NY facade like 2013, and you're set.

  4. This is always my favorite review to read. The titles you gave the houses in your rankings are hysterical xD

I do disagree on Asylum (I personally love it) and RUN (I like it, and the interactivity with actors is great, but I can't justify putting it higher than anything other than TWD and Purge), and every now and then I'll get a great run of Purge, but I've had more duds than good ones.

  7. For me this and "Run" were my worst houses.

This seems to be the general consensus outside of the die hard fans who will place RUN a bit higher. I've no info on this, but based on what I've seen/been told, guests are ranking the houses something like this:

Top Rated: Jack Presents, Insidious, Freddy vs Jason, Body Collectors

Mid-Range but still good: AWiL, Asylum, Purge (this house is being insanely well received, but there's plenty who think it's bad to drag it down from the top rated)

    Bottom Level: TWD, RUN

I'm fairly confident this is the last we see of TWD, if not at the very least for a year or two. It's my understanding that we weren't even going to be forced to have it; rumor is that Hollywood wanted to do it again, so they had us share it. Couple that with low satisfaction this year, I think it's safe to say we won't be seeing this one next year. Purge will be the big current IP imo, with maybe another recent one and 2 classic IPs.

  8. Some of these instances are, like Legacy said, out of fear. If it's an accident like that, and you can see the person didn't mean to harm the actor and was acting out of reflex, then it's understandable. But to SPIT into someone's face, yell sexual comments at the female actors, and overall just be a dick, is completely inexcusable, no matter the job description. And there's nothing anyone can do to stop that from happening, because these people, even sober, are just assholes, and you can't fix that problem by stripping zones or making the event dry. As an actor, it's definitely something you'd have to expect and accept would happen, but I can't justify some of the actions towards actors by saying that.

  9.

    Tell-Tale Heart Room from Nevermore.

Saloon or Sheriff's Office from Ghost Town

Severed triceratops head from JP Evilution

Director's Screening Room from Horror Night Nightmares

Add in a Catacombs room and I 100% agree. Also, turn the finale into a room with ALL icons, not just Jack. Take out HAVOC, Forsaken, and Castle Vampyr rooms to make all this happen. I was hoping for a wider variety, but I LOVE what we have sans those 2 rooms so I can't really complain.

  10. The chainsaw in the Canadian room IS A GAT. There's a small red button on the handle. When pressed, the chainsaw vibrates and produces a practically inaudible saw noise. It's nothing major, but it's there. I've pressed it several times, so it's definitely true. If any tour guides are saying it's not there, then they're wrong.

  11. Honestly, even if the movie was successful, I never expected it to come next year. Why would they do it the year AFTER it came out, unless it was a well known movie/character, like FvJ, Halloween, etc. The closest comparison is doing Cabin in the Woods 2 years after it came out, which I thought was odd, but A&D really wanted to do it and it was VERY successful. I just couldn't see a movie like this (which is great, I saw it last week) being a giant hit. However, with a probably unrealistic budget, this could've been the greatest ghost house of all time, with some incredibly impressive effects/setsand intense   scares.

  12. I definitely thought the event was better than it was while it was still going on last year, but yes, I've come to think it wasn't as good as I originally thought. I don't think it was weak, as I enjoyed all the houses and loved The Purge and MASKerade, but my biggest issue was that outside of Halloween, the event was aggressively NOT scary. I mean, the event's never been terrifying; but I only legit jumped in ONE house. FDTD was a lot of fun, TWD was great but bored me out really quickly due to the excessive use of zombies, AvP is the biggest disappointment in HHN history imo, Drac had nice sets but not much merit, Giggles was a lot of fun, Dollhouse was my favorite as it was incredibly creepy and decent on scares, and Roanoke was a great campy house-but that's not what it was meant to be. Halloween was SCARY. It was a phenomenal house.

B&T last year is one of my favorites ever, alongside Hollywood's impeccable 2012 show. The final B&T last year had me literally tearing up from laughter. So I'll agree scarewise, it was probably the weakest year I've seen in the past 11 years. But overall, I still really enjoyed the event. It does seem like they listened and upped the ante scare wise this year, which is great.

  13. Amazing that on a Wednesday it gets that crowded.

It's crowded for a Wednesday, but for today's standards for crowds it was very empty. FvJ/Insidious hit 75, nothing else got over 45. RUN and AWiL never made it past 30, and after the rush of people at opening, M&M stayed at 35 or less. I took my friend through all 9, including BC, RUN, and Purge a second time, Mummy, both shows, through Diagon, and stopped for food. One of the slowest days I've seen.

Everyone going tonight trying to get into the park from 6-8 while they're doing the grand opening of the NBC Grill and Brew restaurant: have fun. LOL

  14.

Jack Presents 25 Years of Monsters and Mayhem: You know, for a jacks presents house, there was barely any Jack. Any other rooms I didn't mention were either ok or just not that memorable.

Wat. Maybe you missed some of them, but there's 8 Jack actors, plus the entrance and 2 finale rooms are devoted to him. In a house that's celebrating ALL of HHN's history, while still being hosted by Jack, I think that's a perfectly acceptable number.

  15. foREVer what were the worst scare zones at hhn orlando since you didn't mention them.

To be honest, pre 2010 I didn't pay much attention to the zones at all. So my best/worst zones are based off the past 6 years plus whatever I actually do remember from 05-09.

    -Zombie Gras (10)

-Your Luck Has Run Out (11)

    -Face/Off (14)

Also the scarezone in JP in 05 is another favorite. One of the first zones I've ever seen, people disguised as plants was the coolest thing ever to me lol

  16. Here's the thing, though. Wait times aren't a good indicator of actual popularity. So many factors, on top of sheer numbers, affect wait times. The two greatest impacts on wait time doesn't include people: it's house length and "speed."

A short, "fast" house that people can quickly go through (typically brighter houses) will have shorter waits than a long dark house. The scares themselves impact this. Do they scare forward or back? Most of the AWIL and AiW scares push people forward, speeding up the house. Body Collectors, M&M and Insidious appear to have a couple of vicious backward scares that slow the line (Cindy). Also, if the cast isn't scary, the house speeds up.

Total numbers (which we don't see) and polling (which we don't see) are the only true indicators of popularity. If wait times really mattered, then black-out houses like Fear Factor and Cold Blind Terror would a yearly occurrence since those always had inflated wait-times.

This is all true and I agree. Sheer number of people in line plus express also inflates wait times. Insidious is a longer, dark, creepy house, and the line crawls because of it. RUN is fast paced and not very scary, so the line moves quickly. Ive gotten stopped for a solid minute in M&M several times and once in FvJ, so you're right about that one.

However, my point with AWiL still stands. In 2013 it was that long, slow moving line because it was very popular and scary. I got held up behind people unwilling to move more times in that house than in any other house I've ever beeb in. However, this year it is NOT the case. There's been scares taken away, and it is not being viewed as popular or as well as 2013. When every single house still has a 15-75min line and this is a literal walkon, that tells me this house is not being received as well as they'd like when you compare it to the queues of 2013.

I'd love to see poll ratings, see which houses are being viewed as best-worst on the whole. I'm willing to bet M&M, Insidious and FvJ are highest, RUN, TWD and honestly AWiL are lowest. Purge, BC, and AiW all seem to be very well received as well. TWD will have fans of the show/easy scares/first timers to back it up, but it seems to be the least liked TWD house ever. RUN is fun but for most people its just not that good.

  17. This house is HUGE with the GP and usually gets just as packed as FvJ and Insidious. This honestly surprises me, and it's proving to be way more successful than Scream would've been imo. Most aren't looking for the whole package of a great house, just scares. And when the actors are on the ball, this house is very intense and will get people talking about it. When this comes back next year I won't be even slightly surprised, as we'll get a proper Purge house and it's insanely popular.

  18. can't agree with that on the whole. The 4 scenes i mentioned are meh scare wise, but still work for plenty, and the house is by FAR the most popular/considered the scariest by most guests, with FvJ and M&M right behind it. The house gets more and more intense as it goes on, and especially with Cast B, delivers some powerful scares. If both casts were the same strength, and those 4 scenes I mentioned were reworked, this would be one of the most terrifying houses of all time. It's the lack of consistency that ruins it for me.

  19. Inspired by a thread on the Hollywood sign, what would you consider to be the best and worst houses and zones of all time?

From my 11 year run of the event, my favorite houses (in no order after #1) are:

    1. Nightmare on Elm Street: Dreamwalkers (07) [This is forever irrevocable for me. I was 11, and nothing has made me feel so terrified or threatened in my life, and I could never have the same feeling inside a haunted house again.]

    -Screamhouse: Resurrection (06)

-Scary Tales: Once Upon A Nightmare (08)

    -Catacombs: Black Death Rising (10)

-Hades: The Gates of Ruins (10)

-Winter's Night: The Haunting of Hawthorn Cemetery (11)

    -Nightingales: Blood Prey (11)

-Nevermore: The Madness of Poe (11)

-An American Werewolf in London (13)

-Jack Presents: 25 Years of Monsters and Mayhem (15)

    Scarezones:

    1. 7 (11)

    2. 20 Years of Fear (10)

    3. Fractured Tales (08)

    4.Grown Evil (11)

    5. Evil's Roots (15)

    Worst houses:

-The THING: Assimilation (07) [Yes, this is a fan favorite, but I did it once and at the time was not looking for sets/puppets etc., so when I received no scares I didn't like the house.]

    -Reflections of Fear (08)

    -Doomsday (08)

    -The Spawning (09)

-Zombiegeddon (10) [Just didn't work for me. Didn't enjoy it at all.]

-Welcome to Silent Hill (12) [Not their fault, as this wasn't originally planned, but the house was BAD.]

-Alice Cooper: Welcome to my Nightmare (12) [After seeing Hollywood's WtMN house from 2011, I was SO excited and I ended up really hating it. Had no merit to it at all imo.]

-Afterlife: Death's Vengeance (13) [Lazy, cheap, thoroughly unscary and downright annoying at some point. Everything I hate about 3D houses and then some.]

-HAVOC: Derailed (13) [What most people seem to not realize is that the concept of HAVOC and the actual house are not why it was a fan favorite; it was because of the CAST. They are what made that house so popular. The first half of this house was almost literally the exact same room over and over. The second half after the train crash got interesting set wise, but wasn't threatening in the slightest, and I received no scares.]

-The Purge (15) [Another case of unfortunate circumstancing. Some of the worst sets of all time, very bad actor placement, but one of the 2 casts are really energetic and make the house at least fun. It's not the worst ever, but from a catalog of mostly good-great houses, it ends up in my bottom 10.]

  20. An update on wait times. From what I've seen so far (I check the app every day/have been there quite a few nights), the highest wait times for each house so far have been:

    FvJ: 150

    Insidious/Purge/TWD: 140

    Asylum: 100

    M&M/Body Collectors: 90

    RUN: 80

    AWiL: 65

As I suspected, lines aren't as bad as last year, partly due to having a 9th house, and also due to a strong house lineup. Last year every single house save FDTD hit 120-180, and this year only 4 have gotten above 120, and none to 3 hours. When people hear most/all houses are great, they won't go to only the major IPs.

Also, AWiL's performance this year SHOULD make them think twice on bringing back exact repeats, especially really recent ones. The house is 20 min or less by 12 on the busiest of nights, and on most nights is 10 min or less by midnight.

  21. In the Further scene, every now and then there will be black tubes in the middle of the hallway, making it easier to see. Is this for crowd control? As I feel it completely neuters the experience.

The 2 scenes with the mother and Lady in Black from Insidious 2 are my biggest problems with this house. The "If she sees you.." scene with the child is very ineffective scare wise, and the "My name is Marilyn" scene is great with cast B, but Cast A's Lady in Black barely walks out of his hole before going back in, showing literally no effort at all, rendering the scene pointless.

The first 2 scenes are designed rather weird imo, as they're not amazing for scares. I love this house and it has a LOT of great scares. But much of it, especially the first half, is very time dependent on scares, especially with Cast A in my experience, and that drags it down to the 4th spot on my list. Cast B doesn't seem to have that problem, as whenever I do it during their set they're fucking ON POINT and that's exactly how the house should be.

  22. I'm pretty sure at least one of the actors run the account, and it is SO much fun to follow on twitter. Really great aspect of the event, even if it's unofficial! They've conversed with the official HHN twitter as well, they're well aware of it.

Also that Jack's been there since day 1. The suit of armor blocks the spot quite a bit though, so it works better without it there.

  23. My first night will be Sunday the 25th. I'm not using express or S&S but am going the next two Frequent Fear nights while I'm on vacation. My must do's for my first night are Freddy vs Jason, Body Collectors, Run, Bill & Ted, Monsters & Mayhem and Insidious so I'll skip one of my less anticapated house if the lines are really long.

    My plan:

    Freddy vs Jason

    Body Collectors

    Asylum in Wonderland

    Run

    drink break at Diagon Alley

    Bill & Ted

food break, maybe while watching Carnage Returns (can you see the show from Mel's)

    Monsters & Mayhem

    American Werewolf

    Walking Dead

    Purge

    Insidious

That night should be INSANELY packed. I'm talking over 40,000 people. Believe it or not, it's still possible to see it all on a night like that.

Get to the gate at 5. Once it opens, do TWD-Purge-Insidious-FvJ-Body Collectors one after the other without stopping for food/drinks etc. Longest you'll wait is 30-40 for the last 3. Asylum and RUN take until at least 7:30-8 to get above 30, but I reccomend seeing them (in either order) right after those first 5 to ensure the shortest wait. M&M will climb as soon as the park opens as it's the first thing people see, but that and AWiL will lose momentum after 11pm. AWiL will be less than 15 minor even a walkon from 12-2. So after those first 7, see the shows, eat, etc. Then come back for M&M, AWiL, and repeat whatever you'd like.
