  1. Heres a vlog from The Tim Tracker showing off all of the scarezone pieces that are out in the streets so far:

Darryl's truck and the Sophia station wagon are pretty much right when you walk in the park, so I think you can count out any sort of evil takes root scarezone at the entrance.

At 3:40, you can see some irrigation tubing rigged from one of the coolers and into the fire pit. Thats more than likely going to be a fog chiller, so some sort of flame/fog effect will definitely be happening there. Also at 5:05, they point out some sort of bar/handle on top of the RV for an actor to use to support themselves when they stand on top of it. Pretty cool stuff.

  2. ha I love how people here recommend getting early see everything before 7 then start using Express for 2cnd pass, lol!!! If my family and friends be that active, they only be peeing, eating, looking for drink stands, looking to do the houses ASAP and getting tired before 11pm.

If you're going to be in the parks during regular daytime hours, I highly suggest the crossover from Islands. You can find it next to the Seuss bathrooms, and you enter the Studios right under Rockit. It'll let in at the same time as the Stay and Scream holding areas, but the advantage is that you can pretty much be riding things at Islands instead of sitting around in a holding area.. unless of course you would prefer to grab a bite and have a drink. To each their own.

Never use express the first few hours if you have one. I've seen plenty of people walking into the express entrance for houses at 6:45 when its pretty much a walk in. You have the express for a reason: to have things to do when it gets crowded. If you use it when you dont need it, what do you do later?

  3. About the sticks, that was something I kept thinking about but didn't say anything. But even if they are props, it still makes me wonder how are they going to do that.

I guess they could make the sticks really really long? so that no one can get hurt by them?

You can work wonders with foam. Ive seen many things carved by haunters, sticks/stakes included.

  4. La Llorona by a longshot. I was excited for it to come over here, and now seeing those teasers I have officially hit that excited mode. The only two houses that also have my attention are The Walking Dead and Havoc. Not too crazy at all about the storyline for Havoc, but the sets look like they are going to be fun. So I guess my list is: La Llorona, The Walking Dead, Havoc in that order.

  5. With the r.v out at uni. It's looking less like scare zones and More like hoards exclusively with some props from the show scattered around the park... I miss haVen the elaborate setups of the past

This was probably just the first night of construction setup. Lets wait until the rest of the park starts taking shape before we jump to conclusions.

Also, I happen to run into a picture of a large deer prop with a huge gash in its neck on Instagram that said it was for Halloween Horror Nights. I'm thinking it was the prop manufacturer's account, because it was deleted when I went looking for it again last night. It might be under one of the tarps. So there's that..

  6. Is "scary clown" that much more original than zombies?

Nope. Clowns were the hot thing in the haunt industry when Jack was brought in, and zombies are the hot thing now. No difference really.

Just because you aren't afraid of zombies, doesn't mean the thousands of people who walk in the gates aren't. Everyone's different. I am not at all afraid of clowns as you are, for example.

  7. They say they are going to recreate scenes from the 3 seasons but it makes me wonder, What are they going to do? We know they might get a tank and the barn, but what else?

What are other scenes from the show they can do in the streets? (instead of indoor scenes that were done in the house last year)

There's plenty to work with. The original camp (they have the RV already), Morgan's zombie traps from season 3, the downed helicopter (I think it was confirmed Hollywood was getting this), any kind of forest scene can be done in Central Park, the gas station from the pilot, etc.

I'm hoping that the barn is like the Skoolhouse where you can walk into it.

  8. Legacy, my reaction to your post:

Holy crap did you hit the nail on the head. Well done.

The biggest irony I’m finding though, is that the zones we are getting are EXACTLY the types of zone people have been clamoring for for years. Everyone has screamed for the Skool to return to Central Park and Mel’s, and you are now getting the spiritual successor in Herschel’s Barn! You want big, complex set-pieces in New York, and you are now getting a tank (and likely a bunch of other vehicles) in New York. I mean, they’re turning Hollywood into Woodbury! I can’t even imagine the type of set-pieces they’re going to need to build to make that work. Isn’t this exactly what everyone wanted last year; unique sets? That’s what you’re getting.

This is why I am so excited. At 6'1 and 20 years old, the actors in the streets never even look at me, so all I really want out of scarezones is some pretty sets to look at. While I am a huge fan of cemeteries and crypts, it just wasnt enough to do it for me last year. The least I expect for New York is a tank, some barricades and debris, and lots f fog.. I cant wait, its going to look awesome.

  9. Of course it always seems to be that when things are going YOUR way then they are doing it right.. and I guess that's natural.

I think you misunderstood me. If I had to pick, I prefer the original houses to the IPs. My 5 favorite houses happen to be originals.

I was trying to come from the other side of the argument. Just trying to shed some logical light to the "HOW COULD THEY DO THIS!?" reactions.

  10. I should have included that the price is also now 90 bucks. It's almost 200 bucks to go on a friday night with an express pass. I honestly can't justify going anymore. There's a point where it just isn't worth it. I'll probably be attending HOS this year. At the end of the night, I wanna feel like my money was well spent... I do agree though. Cabin in the Woods and American Werewolf are very cool houses. But beyond that, I'm not very happy with anything they've revealed this year.

There's no denying that Horror Nights has become something else. It's no longer what it used to be. Sure the idea is still there but it's not the same. I used to be OBSESSED with this event and I followed it religiously. But it's not like that anymore. Sad to say, but that's the truth. You can say reserve your judgement, but these passed years have been disappointing to me and to a lot of other people too. I'm pretty done with reserving my judgement because I know there's a good chance it's gonna be just like last year and the year before that. I'll come back when they go back to the roots of HHN, which was scaring the shit out of people and originality, not recreating movies and tv shows.

And no, I'm not asking them to cater to the fans. That's dumb. But expanding the walking dead really doesn't do a thing. I honestly doubt that it will boost their attendance that much more. Having the house already does that. Like I said, it's overkill. Not every watches the show and not everyone likes it. It also goes against what horror nights was. They can cater to both the fans and the general public and still make a lot of money and maintain the kickass image they used to have. If you think otherwise, you're just a sucker who will say, "well, it's because they're trying to make money." They could easily do both. It's what a smart business who cares about their customers, and their fans, would do. It's what good business would do. You can say it's silly of me to argue with it, but I'm gonna say you're silly for not. Fans are equally as important as the general public.

Selling out isn't always a good thing. Horror Nights got popular for a reason, and it wasn't because they had houses and scare zones that were themed to movies and TV shows.

    They've only revealed 3 things..

Expanding the Walking Dead doesn't do a thing? Have you looked at the response on AMC's Facebook page? Incredibly positive. The same goes for HHN's Facebook page, which is mostly positive with a few scattered complaints here and there. The attendance numbers will speak for themselves. Again, sorry you don't like the theme, but you're very wrong.

IP's have been in the event since it began, so technically it is also in the "roots". Guess what? IP's and movies are what Universal Studios has been all about since the park opened.. "Ride the Movies" anyone? I don't really know what point you're trying to make by saying it goes against what Horror Nights "was".. If you're talking the scare tactics they use and the conga lines, then sorry, that is going to have to happen at the nation's largest Halloween event at the 16th most visited park worldwide in 2012 (IOA was #10, both were in the top 7 in the country). The park has and will continue to grow and learn to deal with higher crowds than ever before, and the event will grow and learn to grow as well. Those ball pit slides and houses where you wear light up helmets are gone and won't ever be coming back, so forget about the past.

They still do cater to the fans. Who do you think last year's Horror Unearthed was for? The fans, who complained to high heavens about there being no interactive games. They still offer things like the Unmasking tour as well. They could EASILY say "screw the fans, we know they'll come anyway" but they don't.

Selling out is always a good thing. I want to see the event and the parks do well. Would you rather the event bombed this year? That would not be good for anybody. Whether people like it or not, this is a business, it will always be a business first, and thats the way it should be.
