    Your Top Most Anticipated Houses of 2012

    7. Gothic: The sets are sure to be beautiful, but that's not necessarily why I pay eighty bucks to get into the event. The scare-factor just isn't here.

    6. The Walking Dead: I hate to be the echo in the room, but I'm not sure how this house is going to be much more than a generic zombie walkthrough when what makes the show such a hit is not present--the characters.

    5. Penn and Teller: 3D houses have a tendency to be hit-and-miss...as do comedy houses. Put the two together and what do you have? The potential for either a horrifically fun time or a generally lackluster experience.

    4. House of Horrors: While the concept overall does pique my interest, what earned this house such a luke-warm location on the list is my uncertainty as to whether or not it will be able to deliver in the department of scares. These films are iconic, but when their makeup/prosthetics are compared with the horrific creations that have created since, do they really still measure up?

    3. Alice Cooper: I was a bit apprehensive about this one at first, however after doing my research (and seeing the shining reviews from last year) my mindset has changed quite a bit.

    2. Welcome to Silent Hill: I fully expect this house to be the most frightening of the night. From what I've seen, the lineup (in terms of characters) Universal has planned is nothing short of spectacular.

    1. Dead End: The ambiguous qualities that surround this house ultimately knocked it up to the top of my list. Something about the mysterious aura surrounding it really intrigues me.

    Dark Legions: Vampires

    I personally believe that we'll receive a decent variety of vamps, but the one movie I really hope they draw inspiration from is 30 Days of Night. A lot of the imagery from that film has really stuck with me over the years, and the idea of coming face-to-face with one of the 30DON vampires just sounds amazing.

    Come on, how can you resist this face?

    Have you guys all but given up on a possible Trick 'r Treat theme? I don't know why, but the idea of seeing Jack get a house of his own just makes me tremble in joy. I just would like to see what they would do with the "rules of Halloween" and how that could be intertwined with the event.

    I also agree with Forever. An Insidious maze would be absolutely amazing, as there are so many different ways they could go about creating it. Also, while watching the film one of my main thoughts was how well the scares could translate to a HHN maze. : D

    I was browsing a site dedicated to up-to-date movie news, when I stumbled upon a few pieces of information I found to be quite interesting. Four major franchises of horror films are scheduled to release new films come Horror-Nights time. And, although I may be in the majority, I feel as though Universal will want to capitalize on at least one of these releases. The films being:

    -Resident Evil: Retribution (September 14th)

    -The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D (October 5th)

    -Paranormal Activity 4 (October 19th)

    -Halloween 3D (October 26th)

    Now, some may be quick to write Resident Evil off but I wouldn't be so quick. If Uni does indeed decide to opt for an end of the world theme, then Resi would go hand-in-hand. Personally though, I would love a Halloween house. This year being my first, I have yet to encounter one of the major movie killers (Jason, Freddy, Michael) in person, and it's something I imagine would be a thrill.

    Scare Zone of the Year

    1. Acid Assault. Honestly, I’m surprised it isn’t getting more praise. Perfect execution, perfect design, perfect placement. I really loved this zone; it had me running for the hills each time I went through. On a side note, there was one scare actor dressed as an old woman pushing a cart…and my dad, thinking that it was a legit old woman, tapped her on the shoulder to ask her if she needed some help…only for her to turn around and TERRIFY him. The combination of location (slightly congested area, not many places to run/hide) and great makeup made this the scarezone of the night for me.

    2. Seven. This was my first ever scarezone. The cast was super energetic and I have so many great memories. My brother’s girlfriend and I approached one of the minions and asked for a photo…but only ended up receiving a grunt and the summoning of some of the chainsaw crew. At about eleven our group of five was split by that same chainsaw crew (which, I have to say, were just spectacular throughout the night) and we were forced to regroup in a local shop. Early on in the event (about seven-ish) when I was shying away from the smallest sound, I was triple-teamed by a few gluttons. That was before I realized how much a mistake running away really is.

    3. Your Luck Has Run Out. The atmosphere of this one was perfect. I just really adored the fact that the chainsaw revs just seemed to be getting louder the closer we got to the alley-exit. Really builds up the tension.

    4. Nightmaze. I would have rated this lower, had it not been for one of the hooded guys. It was getting close to closing and this was the only zone we hadn’t hit. My brother’s GF is the total opposite of me. As the night goes on and my adrenaline kicks in I become jaded and just tend to laugh at others reactions, while she gets progressively more scared as exhaustion takes over her. There was one actor that targeted her almost immediately, scaring her a total of four or five times throughout the maze. He just hung onto her like a leech. :D

    5. Canyon of Dark Souls. This seemed like something pulled straight out of the silver screen. The actor’s played their role perfectly and were very intimidating. The façade of the zone was what got me to love it though. It just looks so dark and menacing. The only negative is that the concept didn’t really click in my mind…so I wasn’t that scared, but everyone around me seemed to be.

    6. Grown Evil. Very similar to CODS in that it’s great from an outsider’s perspective, but going in just doesn’t offer that many scares…which kinda disappointed me a bit. I feel like this zone had so much potential and in the end it just felt like something was missing. The tree scare got my dad and sister real good, though.

    Overall, to me there was no zone that I would call bad. Some were better executed than others, some had better setups and design, but as I exited each zone they consistently left me in a state of either awe or terror. As I trekked through each they only made me more excited for what was to come…and so, in that sense, each area was successful. This was a great first year…and I know it won’t be my last.

    in General Halloween Horror Nights - Orlando

    Alright guys, this is my very first year at Horror Nights and as you may expect, I am extremely anxious/giddy. My knowledge is rather thin in a few areas, and so I was hoping that you guys could answer a few of my queries:

    1) How long do the lines tend to be? I've heard various things from different people and some say that the time you spend in the lines tends to put a slight damper on the event. I don't have any problem with waiting, although my friend and brother (who are both two of the most impatient people you will EVER meet) will be attending along with me.

    2) Can you buy merchandise at the event? Couldn’t really find much information on this. I really want to buy a few mementos. : )

    3) How many nights do you recommend we stay in order to gain the full experience?

    And finally...something that has me checking the HHN site every day:

    4) When will we be updated on the new houses/scare-zones? The people in the speculation topic are bringing up some amazing ideas, and I am excited to see how many of their "predictions" come true.

    Sorry to be "that guy" and go back to something that was mentioned a while ago (hey, I've just came back to the forum after a long hiatus)...but I really love the idea of literature gone wrong. But I think it would only work if it was non-horror literature. I mean, there's plenty of obvious horror literature targets (Frankenstein, Dracula, anything by Poe, Lovecraft, etc.). But sort of along the lines of taking something that has very few horror ties and twisting it would be good, but not in the vein of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies or Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. That's more along the lines of adding absurdities for the sake of quirkiness. I mean like, something has gone terribly wrong with these books and they're being twisted to the point of pure, unadulterated horror. But there is the problem of an Icon...while I could see an event like that working without one, having one would cut it too close to the Storyteller. Although an evil librarian would be cool, as mentioned before.

    Or maybe someone who writes too much fanfiction and starts twisting classic works to meet their sick, fanficiton-y needs. Some fanfiction writers are pretty scary.

    That was all more of wishful thinking than speculation. Sorry guys. I'm still a bit rusty. Here's to a new update soon!

    I read quite a lot of literature nowadays, and so this idea is very appealing to me, however I'm not so sure how much it'd appeal to the masses. I mean, in reality, do people know the story of Morrie Schwartz and Mitch Albom as well as the tale of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers? Sadly (and oddly, in my opinion) most don't, and so, if Universal did decide to do something like this they'd have to focus on literatures that's known by both common schmuck A and common schmuck B...but I do love the of common books being twisted into something evil and demented (maybe have Phineas come back from the dead to wreak havoc in search of Gene...and revenge? ; D)

    The Black Death and killer-plagues are always frightening to me, and they aren’t exactly difficult to craft a story around...so I'd really like for them to make more houses with that basis. Hell, I could see that being as a potential event foundation (although it would work better if it was focused around end-of-the-world events). I think it could work, and it could pull together some brilliant houses. ; D
