  1. Please don't think you ever have to tell me to have an open mind. I am NOT one of those people who will ever go to this event "expecting crap". NEVER. HHN is my favorite thing of every year, and I go with much anticipation to see everything they've done. I know they work hard to make this event great, and I love it. I also know they have to please a wide variety of tastes, and sometimes certain things may not match my own. So what? There will be plenty there that will. I'm good with that. I was simply stating my personal preference when it comes to source material. I loathe when a movie series starts getting into 5, 6, 7 or 8 versions. I personally feel this shows a lack of creativity and thought, and it's usually a cash grab with garbage. Nightmare on Elm Street was a great original movie, and by the time they stopped making sequels, it was a joke. Same thing with Friday the 13th, Saw, Halloween, etc. Some people like seeing the same thing over and over with a new version. I don't. Give me something new. So, this was my thinking when I said I was disappointed t see Saw on the list. It really had nothing to do with crapping on any house sight unseen.
  2. I'm with you on this. I liked the first one - at the time, a unique take on this kind of thing. The second one.. meh.. after that, I didn't watch. Annoyed that this may be coming back. However, at least it's not The Walking Dead for the millionth time. I have yet to hear a rumor that that overused crap pile is returning.
  3. REALLY??? I vividly remember this convo... two British guys we talked to outside the bathrooms by Men in Black. It was one of the years we had AWIL, I"m pretty sure. I think we mentioned we loved the UK, and the reply was something along the lines of - if you get back to the UK, you MUST go to York. It's the most haunted city.. or something like that. So, I took that seriously and made note. And the recommendation was spot on. If this was you - THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I truly love this community. I've made some great friends here. Back to topic at hand - when do you all think the next announcement is coming? Compared to last year, we are severely lacking in this area. In a couple days, we will be exactly 3 months away. That really isn't that long.
  4. Plan on two full nights for sure.. and then you'll be addicted.. and you'll tell City Walk to piss off because you won't want to leave. As long as you're physically going to be there for the last seven of the ROF, you have the ability to play with the timing a bit. You lived in York? What a great little city. Spent some time in the Black Swan pub and did the Original Ghost Tour. Loved it. The Shambles looks like Diagon Alley come to life.
  5. I am thrilled you went that route! The Rush of Fear with Express is, by far, the best deal if you are traveling for the event and can only travel once. Smart move. Plus, 30 is a big deal! You should be celebrating properly! Happy birthday, late! So, which weekend are you going? Just curious if I'll be around at the same time or not. I already owe Critical a beer, so I figured I'd offer you a celebratory pint for your bday. I have a fondness for the Brits. My wife and I just returned from 11 days in England (London, Manchester and York) and pretty much didn't want to leave. It was at the suggestion of two Brits who we met at HHN a couple years ago that we visited York which we LOVED. I wish I could find those guys again and tell them thanks. Anyway, have a fabulous time, Matt. You're gonna love it! BTW, agree on Saw... I mean, who gives a shit about Saw anymore? They ruined it, IMO, by making so many movies, and I don't think it translates to a good house.
  6. Your life just sucks, doesn't it? Question on The Conjuring fiasco. Let's suppose we know for sure that this was actually supposed to happen.. didn't the whole lawsuit thing come out months ago? Would they have even built the physical maze for The Conjuring ? I doubt it. They may have had to redirect the plans, but I bet they aren't having to use a Conjuring literal house as something else. Just a thought. Also, to the "new guy" coming to HHN from England - be sure to attend multiple nights, and absolutely buy the express pass. I know this has been said, but I wanted to reiterate. When I was a newbie, I used to travel to the event for a single weekend. We'd get two nights out of it, and that was it. I regret doing it that way. I started going in 2005 - during a time that everyone here still raves about - and, I can't remember as much as I'd like to. So, now, we travel to the event three different weekends - and this year will be four. Granted, I don't have to fly 10 hours to get there like you do, but I'm just saying, make the most of it. Also, be sure to get plenty of rest and drink lots of water. It's hot as hell in Florida during at least the first half of this event. I hope you'll come back with more questions and update us on what you think.
  7. Ok, not to be a dumbass, but what is Dark Fortune?
  8. I really hope THIS is correct. God, I hate TWD with a passion.. <trying to refrain from a tired old rant, but it's hard>
  9. If this lineup is correct.. a few questions: Why Insidious? I know the 4th chapter of this is due out, but not until 2018. So, none of us will have seen the movie to compare it to the house. Why Saw? Who cares about Saw? It's been done to death with too many sequels (the actual movies), and wasn't this at HHN before (not that they won't repeat.. just wondering why this, why now?) Evil Dead? We just had Evil Dead a few years ago. While I liked that house, I don't need to see it again. Honestly, if they were going to repeat a house from the recent past, Cabin in the Woods would've been a better choice. If they replace the Conjuring with another Walking Dead, I am going to lose my shit.
  10. Unrelated, but this just made me laugh my ass off.. thought you all might appreciate
  11. I have been waiting for a king property at HHN since I started going in 2005. I realize they are promoting this as Kubrick's Shining, but the story is still King's. I HAVE to have faith that they will make this another epic passion-project house. I know they've been trying for years to get King involved, so I can't see them not putting every bit of effort into this.
  12. I hated that house.. not as much as I hated Chance.. but I HATED the Exorcist. That head spinning thing was so cheesy, and I am still SO PISSED that the house didn't start with her playing with Mr. Howdy. I mean, WTF?? The best part about it was the facade and the theme music at the beginning. Oh, and the flash to the desert scene was cool. The rest was crap. There is more to it than the less money vs big money idea. I think things are more directed. I don't think A&D have the kind of control they used to have AT ALL, and I am sure they are being told what they have to do with more than half of what will be at the event. It's not their fault. I feel bad for them a lot of times because they are the ones who bring all the passion and who literally make this event what it is. Then you've got the corporate assholes who have no idea what they are doing, and they are grabbing at whatever looks most popular and forcing it onto A&D (i.e. YEARS of the Walking Dead). I guess knowing all this, I still love to go with an open mind. I still want to see what A&D will do - how they will try like hell to give us the best of whatever they are tasked with giving us.. and then, the real gems are the passion projects they get to do - i.e. Halloween, AWIL, etc. which are MIND BLOWERS. Do I wish we could have awesome scare zones like we did in the past? Absolutely. Do I wish we could get more original houses? Yep. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the creativity and hard work they put into what they have. AHS was gorgeous last year, and that was the big IP. Kudos to them for rocking that! Too much cynical shit here.
  13. Another tweet from Ifrit You could see what I am bringin' With just a little singin' To help with the refrains
  14. And yet, you're still here. Do you also sit on your front porch and yell at kids to get off your lawn? I mean, seriously, man.. we get it. It's not the same. Things change, and it isn't the event that seemed to be more for the hardcore fans in the past. The higher-ups finally pulled their collective heads from their collective asses and looked at the data on how many billions Halloween rakes in every year. They realized - holy mother of god, we have a cash cow here! Slowly, Marketing has crept in and put their shit soiled hands into the mix and have taken away some of the things that were most loved. What can you do? You can either not go, OR, you can go and enjoy what there is to enjoy. Personally, I love the event. It's still my favorite thing to do every year. Do I get pissed sometimes? (see my endless rants about The Walking Dead) - of course I do. But would I get pissed and disparage the event as whole? Not on your life. I am realist which I prefer over pessimist. Life is too short to be that goddam miserable.
  15. Ok, let's hear the analysis of this tweeted by Ifrit minutes ago: So unravel every riddle This one falls along the middle On the difficulty chain
  16. I still maintain that a "Very Special HHN Horror Make-up Show" would be AWESOME. It's one of my fave things at Uni, and I still laugh every time. They have writers who could craft a more mature version of that, heavy on the sarcasm, some actual special effects behind-the-scenes, and it would flow so nicely with the event. It's one of my dream shows for HHN
  17. I would be shocked if we don't AT LEAST get Sean Spicer via the Melissa McCarthy version. For comedy writers, it must be very difficult not to do Trump
  18. That, and I think they really needed the actual dictionary definition of "soon". i was glad to be of service
  19. Holy shit, they are really doing it: I actually agree with you on the NOT playing up the sexuality. I totally agree with that statement - stupid as fuck for horror stuff. YEP. Bloody Mary wasn't "sexy" at all, and she was SCARY. Her commercial gives me chills every time I see it even now. I think The Shining could be a GREAT house. There is a lot of visual to work with that will have nothing to do with Jack at all. I will forever disagree with you on AHS. Last year's version was one of my faves of all time. They did a TREMENDOUS job with it, and I expect no less this year.
  20. This dual park speculation comes every year. I never believe it. Furthermore, no one said anything about any permits at IOA. This is one of those, I'll believe it when I see it things. No matter what the rumors are, you'll never get me to believe two parks. Another day, another round of silence. At least Aiello would play a little more when he ran Twitter. This sucks.
  21. I was just thinking the EXACT same thing.. so I sent them a tweet with a screenshot of the actual Merriam Webster dictionary definition of "soon". Feel free to check it out and retweet it to them with your own sarcastic comment.
  22. Whether the Ifrit is legit or not, at least he/she is giving us something to play with and talk about... unlike our "good friends" at Universal. If I get one more tweet about AHS, I'm gonna lose my shit.
  23. Well, at least that's interesting. <sigh> I don't have patience for this. There is so much garbage going on in this country right now that a little HHN news would certainly brighten things up. I realize I might sound crabby, but wth?
