  1. It's a redirect. It could stay like this for a few days. This isn't even a generic, HHN site but pushing it right back to the Universal site. Even with the Facebook post, "soon" in Universal marketing is turning into God-time where a day is a thousand years and a thousand years is a day.

    LOL

    Fantastic perspective!

Do we even know the dates for sure, yet? Is today the 90 day mark, or is that next Friday?

  2. This is probably old news to most on here but imagine a house based on this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVBbH15YENE

It could be like the Spawning, with a dash of the Blob, and some of the scareactors could be in the process of being eaten by these "things". It would be cool to have a house where the main antagonist was something like this (and not something that could be identified as a human in a costume).

If Uni could find a way to manipulate a material (like a slime, blob, or some other kind of "organic" substance) to make it appear alive and hungry, that would be insanely cool in my opinion. Almost the same idea as in "Creatures" but without the static, or humanoid looking aliens.

Imagine a room where the walls and ceiling were "alive" and writhing/reaching for you as try to escape; or even a hallway where this "blob" chases your across the floor or comes sliding towards you down the wall; or maybe a windowed hallway where the organism is outside and pushing it's way in through tiny cracks of glass, with the window just on the verge of breaking. The trick would be making it feel close enough to be uncomfortable, but far enough away so that drunkards couldn't touch it.

The final scene could use the inflatable walls. With nowhere left to run, we all accept our fate and are "engulfed" by the creature, only to come out the other side at the exit of the house.

Just a fun thought to pacify us while we patiently wait for a freakin update

    OMG that is disturbing.

  3. Well see if a house has an Up Scare, then Yeah no roof is fine, because there is something for you to look at, BUT those kinds of scares do not happen often, besides dracula and wolfman, I dont remember any others, (Jason had one but that was different)

at the same time, Seeing the empty space and the roofless is worst when They SHOULD have had an up scare, it still baffles me to this day that Legendary Truth did not have an actor hanging, if any house needed that type of scare it was Legendary truth, and they didn't ( maybe they had a reason) but I just feel that a roof is really needed for all houses, I really wish they found a material a cloth or something that wont be a problem with fire codes,

I am completely behind the faux-ceiling for houses, in every opportunity possible. The Freddy house in 2007 is my favorite example of that. It was just cheesecloth with holes in it, fire-retardant treated, and certainly nothing to keep any light, sound, water, etc out of the room but it still offered the illusion of a ceiling. It made huge difference to me. It was sorely lacking in the LT house, to be sure.

yeah I agree, also with roofs I think the houses would be overall scarier, a lot of times I am taken back to reality because of the roofless houses like Legendary truth, seeing the sound stage roof , some houses would be really scary if you looked up and saw nothing, or a black roof, that would freak me out

That is another aspect I totally agree on. Looking up and seeing the tops of the tents, soundstages, parade buliding etc...really can give you that sense of feeling that ok you are just in a house that isn't real. With having the entire house covered in my opinion really makes the experience come to life. Your brain can't recongnize something if you don't see it therefore making the house feel more alive...

I thought that was the point; to be totally immersed....

I agree to that to some extent but some rooms within a house need their own setup. You don't want to be walking through a particular part of a house and get distracted from the sounds and flashing lights coming from another part of the house. The anticipation of a scare coming from just around the corner is what makes a house so great. Sometimes it's good to be left in the dark... ;)

If the scareactors are doing their job, you won't be looking up.

Ah, but up-scares become more and more popular....2009 had a feral bride in Dracula:Legacy of Blood at bout 10 ft up and there was a clear view of the ceiling when she was there. It did detract for me, but I am only one.

  5. I am fond of the idea of the "Tom Sawyer and the Undead" treatment. Shoot, they could just do one house with that and "Huckleberry Finn and Undead Jim". The horror 'revisions' of classic lit are so popular currently, that I can't see why they wouldn't go for the 'Classics + Zombies/Vampires/Sea Monsters" theme. It would allow for great sets and costumes, plus keep HHN hip and trendy (something they seem to be more concerned about than most haunted events).

Personally, I believe Pride and Prejudice and Zombies would be AWESOME.

  6. Traditionally, how bad is the Wednesday and Sunday of "Hell Week"?

Even if Sunday isn't that crowded are the scareactors as into it after 4 days of torture?

Certainly not all of them, as it has got to be physically debilitating after that length of time, but there are many who seem to grow more...energetic. Or creative. Or both. I suppose the exhaustion can lower those 'normal' filters and make a scareactor a little less conservative.

In fact, last year's Havoc was (IMHO) the best of the whole run that Sunday. It was downright dangerous.

  7. As much as I love the regular Beetlejuice show during regular park hours, I wouldn't mind seeing a "revised version" just for HHN. They used Beetlejuice shows in the earlier years of HHN, so I could probably see them doing it again.

I'd like a revisit to the old-school Beetlejuice show...with the Phantom and sans the cheerleaders. I liked the old show just fine and haven't really warmed up to this incarnation.

  8. I had an idea where, for XX opening night, everyone from the SZ and houses would all gather at the front gate with fog machines making a huge wall behind us and that Fear would be in front of all of us making a speech to the guests as they stand there waiting to get in. As he wraps it all up, we can all start walking through the fog as we cackle, roar, scream, just plain be creepy as we start making our way to our places and of course they would give us atleast 15 mins in advance to get back to places so you wont waste all of your energy getting back and it would be JUST for opening night like an exclusive one time show. Of course it has its issues but damn it would be kickass to make the crowd feel overwhelmed with ghouls and psychos all standing in front of them as a mob of freaks and demons lead by the ultimate evil and we vanish into the fog as though we may still be there but when the guests come in we seem to vanish into the park to take it over for the night.

They did that in 2001 up by Mel's...it was pretty spiffy.

  9. A rock wall! It's Stonehenge! We're getting a "Seven Wonders of the World Theme!" A celtic/Stonehenge theme (probably in Tent 1 with the Rune Room). I Chinese/Mongol/Great Wall theme (the Terra Cotta Warriors will be awesome!). An Arab/Hanging Gardens environment theme. A Pyramid/Mummy's Curse Theme. Eiffel Tower/Catacombs sequel. A Zombiefied Taj Mahal. The Colisseum/Roman Warrior theme... They'll have the entrance in IoA so they can use the Lighthouse of Alexandria!

I really could do this all day. Why do I not work for A&D again?

EDIT - I know this post probably reeks, because I just pulled it out of my @$$. I'm joking, but hey, we can at least get three pages of discussion out of it.

That rock wall is the one we keep slamming our heads into.

And, Legacy, the stuff you pull out of your nethers is 10x better than half the stuff out there. I wonder why you don't work for A&D, too.

  10. I used to get nervous but...I can't anymore. I don't get nervous, I know to many actors, I know how the scares are set up, etc. It's hard for me to get scared when I know my friend is the one doing it. The first two nights I go I might get scares but.....after that it's doubtful. When I was 15 I could get scares easily; if it was as easy as lets make myself nervous and jumpy then I would but alas, I can not.

At this point I'm going more to just enjoy and appreciate them practically making movies come to life. I'm thrilled when I get scares but it's a rare occurrence that brings me joy when it happens.

I get what you're saying. I'm more thinking about the folks who do nothing but complain the entire time and every sentence starts with "I've been coming since..." then goes on to say "...and it's not even fun anymore."

Honestly, why come? There's one gentleman I can think of in particular, I've seen him at least the last 4 years, maybe even before that. Being near him in line drives me absolutely crazy. Plus, I've actually eased up on going with some of my friends because of that very same attitude. I can compare it to sports fans who's team may not be in its prime anymore, but they still pay to go to games only to sit around and badmouth the players and the coaches....are you really that wealthy that you can pay so much for something you apparently don't enjoy anymore? If I ever get that unhappy with it, you can bet I'll save that stack o' cash or find something else to do!

  11. Dr. Jimmy is correct; I'm Nicole, AKA Pumpkin 2.0, apparently. People's hopes keep getting falsely raised when they see the handle, which I promise wasn't my intention when I picked that name. : \ I joined the Vault less than a month before it went down, so I didn't really create my presence -if it can even be called that- in the community until I came here.

That's okay! I can still be happy to see you! Let's party!

    For legal purposes:

Would flash mobs be appropriate for HHN? How cool would the 'Thriller' mob dance (as seen in various YouTube videos) be right outside the front gates? I'd think it would have to be on a non-peak night, either 1 or more hours before the gates open OR an hour or so after. I don't know if anyone else would think it was cheesy, but I know the night one of our line monitors did an impromptu performance of it he got a rousing applause afterwards.

  12. It's been more than a few months since I've posted, so firstly, "Hello, again, everyone!" It's been fun catching up on the speculations so far. And secondly, this isn't so much speculation as it is a general -and probably obvious- question, but are the sprung tents typically the first to receive real construction attention every year? I've been doing a special event this week with Entertainment, and we used an empty SS22 for rehearsals. Also, I recently worked an Events detail for Grad Bash, and I noticed some of the pole bases for the Esqueleto Muerte scare zone were outside in that area. Was just wondering if the tents were used for storage, and if the sound stage houses were built piece by piece every year within their rightful spaces. Someone had once mentioned to me that the materials were stored yearly for cost efficient recycling, but to what extent the houses were disassembled wasn't mentioned.

    OMG PUMPKIN!!!

    The fun can officially begin.

  13. I could not find anything directly relating to "Rune Room" in The Hallow. There was a witch scene, the Halloween tree, and the opening scene with Haloween build up. I remember their being the Samhain's so I'm thinking that might have been what sparked my memory. I definitely remember there being runes in the house I just can't recall what part....

They were in the witch's scene, carved on the cauldron (crypt? the thing they liked to jump out of and scare you!) and some of the surrounding walls.

There have been so many types of runes, heiroglyphs, and pictograms used in HHN over the years, I think trying to pinpoint their source now will probably just drive us all crazy.

Personally, I'd like to see more of The Hallow, meself. Anyone up for a trip back to Caledonia? The Celts weren't only in Ireland, y'know. ;)

  14. That really starts to be a valid argument after a while. B) Not that it's anymore or less scary now it's just harder to actually scare the individual. I don't complain unless I feel it's warranted but I do wish I was able to get scares like I used to 2006-2008

But, honestly, you have to LET yourself get scared. Nothing there is really scary. We all know that it's fake. The fun is letting yourself go and getting scared. If you go into the situation without 'lightening up' you'll NEVER be scared. If you're so far gone that you can't enjoy yourself then stay home.

  15. I agree with many of these (drunks, children unprepared for the event, destructive guests) but my number one, absolute, most heinous pet peeve is the person who has been to the event for years and can only pick and gripe about how 'this year sucks' and that 'nothing is scary anymore' and 'when I went...' Honestly, if it is that disappointing to you, just stay home. It will save you money and spare the rest of us how much you thought it sucked. Shut up, already.

  16. Thinking about games of chance...

There are many themes that that can go with a event themed on chance... These are just overall themes... the details would have to be filled in.

If you take the literal games of course you have casinos (which have been discussed)which I invision as a zombie house for some reason. Either as a ship (dead in the water or something like that) or as a vegas casino (the name possibilites are endless).

But other ideas based of dice... Pirates played dice (liars dice and Hazard) and cards cards (Lanterloo, One-and-Thirty, Marias, and Bone-Ace) primarily. Which we have never really seen a Pirate house. You could have a cursed Pirate ship. (I have a thing for ships or something?) I know POTC has explored this avenue but why should Disney have a monopoly on Pirates?

Old west is notorious for cards. (we talk about a old west house already and I think it is still largely untapped)

Prisons are places of gambling. We saw Hellgate already but not much else along the way of prisions.

How about a game show of death? Like Run! but more like a gameshow.

On the Fate side of it...

You could have a gypsy theme house (the gypsy camp in Wolfman was my favorite scene)

or a snake oil salesman who sells tinctures and salves to help you but in reality they are a curse. (see as Mr. Denton on Doomsday but twisted)

Deals with the devil, demons, death, or witches.

Honestly ANY theme can have an overlying vein of fate or chance... It's simply in the telling. That is why selling the concept of chance/gambling/ or fate is very marketable.

Or taken quite literally, as was said before, have multiple paths in a house where you choose your fate.

I would LLOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE to see a pirate house by HHN, but I get the feeling that they think it's 'beneath' them.

The snake oil salesman could be cool, too...reminds me of something from BPAL...

  17. Seriously what happened? why do all the archive sites go offline...

I'm finally doing what I should have done years ago... mirroring them myself (at least saving them) but it is time consuming and tedious going to the way back machine and reorganizing everything. So far I have an 99.9% functioning 2002 site. (ECard still having trouble and one pic unretrievable) Maybe once I full mirror them Nightmatre's might want them? I could put them on my own site but I don't have THAT much room.

I've been desperately trying to find the site even further back but have only come up with a splash screen for 2000. which I will save as well... It's getting harder to retrieve it for some reason on wayback. Anyone know of a better way to find the old sites? (aside from a time machine that is...) or if anyone has the sites archived that I could have I would greatly appreciate it.

Awesome idea, JW. I wish I knew how to do all of that...I'd start doing it myself!!!
