  1. So the "The Thing" is confirmed, great, now can we please move on to other speculation? All discussion related to "The Thing" Facebook posting by universal will be removed. Also Speculation thread is not for your opinion of the event itself in such a matter that steers away from what was previously being discussed. You are more then welcome to create your own thread about the event in the General HHN Discussion. Sorry but with the event drawing near, we need to be a bit more firm when it comes to keeping threads like this organized.

    Thank you, DS.

I'm still insanely curious about the parade building. My mind keeps going back to the cathedral photos Aiello posted earlier this year... (let me check that I'm thinking of the right location...eta Yup! I was!)

  2. Nice find on the variety article about the Thing house Horror Lover. That's one house's identity down seven to go. I just hope the article is more accurate about the house than it is about who made the 80's Thing movie. Roger Corman? I always though it was John Carpenter or am I living in an alternate reality lol?

It is a John Carpenter joint; I can't take the article seriously due to that error. I mean, that's a BIG error. Maybe he made a mistake, like thinking one thing and saying another, but this is Variety. THE entertainment trade paper. I just can't see that getting through unless there was a reason.

  3. This is my most unfounded speculation, so members with greater knowledge feel free to step in and elaborate.

SS22 for The Thing Prequel is absolutely believable to me. It's the most logical. Not to be that person, but I was a cast member of Dead Exposure in 2008, and I can testify. Those tents FEEL like there's no AC. Even on the rare cold night, I'd swear it was closer to 85° in the actual maze despite it being around 50-60° outside. I don't know how they compensated for that in 2007, but with this one being a theatrical promotion, and the fact that a lot of fans loved the original house, SS22 is a much more naturally affective area. More potential, more room, more control, more variables already aligned and out of the way. (small edit)

Side note... I swear we were told by our ASM and SM at the time that the tents weren't air conditioned...

    From the HHN 17 guide:

A secret facility in Florida studying the Bio-hazardous remains of Artic outpost 31 accidentally unleashes some-THING.

The Thing: Assimilation was never supposed to be in the Antarctic. The remains of the two men were transferred to Florida.

In the case of a prequel, I think moving it to the SS with buttkicking AC is necessary.

  4. 1994 was my first year and words cannot describe how hard I fell in love that night.

1995 we went on my birthday and my friends had the entire queue of Back to the Future sing "Happy Birthday" to me.

    2000 parade!

2001 the last Bill & Ted show was amazing; the cast and audience sang our national anthem before everyone left.

    2004 parade again!

2007 NOES house scared all of the guys in my group. YES

2008 EVERYTHING eta: a very specific memory of Path of the Wicked; went through at a particularly crowded time, got separated from my husband and friend, trapped by the Lion and Tin-man. Went through again a little later and was accosted by the Tin-man once more "I remember yuuuuuuuu..." Got it on tape.

  5. As it seems that Fate and Chance will be our Icons this year, my wish is that the scenario would be that Chance growing tired of always being seen as just a sidekick to Jack got fed up and killed him once and for all. Then she ran off with Fate the way that Harley Quinn ran off with Poison Ivy in the Batman Animated Series. Only more permanently...

Perhaps their relationship may even be like that seen between Lady Gaga and Beyoncé in the music video for Telephone?

How about it? Some hot girl on girl Iconic action? Well, this is wishful thinking after all!

    PERFECTION!

To a new age of gods and monsters!!!!!

  6. This prob means nothing but they all have ties to Disney. Disney just signed a three book deal with Eoin Colfer. Steve Jobs is on the Disney Board of Directors and Peter Falk was in the Disney film Corkey Romano and ABC aired the more recent episodes of Columbo.

    The icon in zombie Walt?

My vote is the Noir/gangster angle. It's been thrown around a lot in the past year and there are far too many clues pointing in that direction.

  7. Another REMOTE possibility involving the code-name "seagull", there were a number of Spanish horror films in the 1970s about the Knights Templar returned as ghoulish horseback riding zombies. Unlike other Living Dead types these Knights were blind and were known as the Blind Dead.

For some odd reason one of these films was given the unusual title La Noche de las Gaviotas, literally "The Night of the Seagulls".

I do NOT mean to suggest by any means a house based on these films! But rather it may be, that characters somehow similar to these Blind Dead Knights have been given this code-name by somebody in A&D who enjoyed the films.

(then again, if this does turn out to be a casino house, well haven't you ever heard of Bugsy Siegal??? hmmmm Bugsy, Bug-Eye, hmmmmmm)

Oh, man, when you said that I got chills.... I remember watching those movies on Cinemax, far far too late in the night when I was 12 years old. They certainly weren't the best of movies, by today's standards, but for sheer creepy atmosphere there wasn't much better. The soundtracks were amazing, too. I would loooove a house based on those movies! (Off to get them from Netflix to reminisce...)

And I still love the idea of zombie Mobsters....(Legacy...that still keeps coming up!)

  8. Spanish Inquisition sounds more likely given the Prisoner codename. Knott's Berry Farm did a house a long time ago with the same theme of a sort of Spanish castle with people being tortured by said individuals. And for more information on said Inquisition, check out this link via Wikipedia.

Coincidentally, the majority of the group's actions were held in Seville, and I swear someone on here mentioned Seville as part of speculation...

Yes! I remember that, too! Wasn't Mike Aiello touring medieval churches earlier this year, too?

An Inquisition house would be amazing and terrifying. Aside from all of the Monty Python references, I think it would be highly successful.

  9. So with a prisoner and a Spanish name in the parade building... In conjunction with asking applicants if they will speak Spanish... Francisco Pizarro came to mind. Destroyer of the Incan Empire.

but I'm sure that is a stretch. However, definite Spanish associations.

It made me think of the Spanish Inquisition.

    Horror, indeed.

  10. Hey guys, Yup this is my first post but I've been following for a while and been attending HHN for the last 7 years. I just wanna say I love the atlantic boardwalk, speakeasy feel. And I would love to see a scarezone by the lagoon or even the jaws area playing up the boardwalk feel.

Dave and I were just discussing how they could work Amity into the boardwalk theme, too. Let's cross our fingers...

    Welcome. btw!!

  11. Lots of talk about the Ace/Queen hand. Dave, my husband, watches the poker championships on TV pretty religiously and I heard that this is called 'the biggest trouble hand in poker'. Apparently, as good as a hand as it is, so many other combinations trump it that it has a reputation as a game-killer. I don't know if it's relevant; especially if our theme is Black Jack based, but I thought it was interesting.

    Mae

  12. I'm going to be very honest, I'm not to excited about this theme. But that is mostly because I never really liked gambling themed haunts or casino themed haunts. I can see a Casino being one theme for one haunted house, but not entire event where there are going to be six or seven other haunts. I mean really, with the theme hint given what houses do you think could be made out of this?

    House themes:

    Casino

    Gangstas

Gangsters, not gangstas...two different beings. Same purpose, but you can't really compare a lion to shark....Real life mobsters would torture cheaters and traitors in some terribly brutal ways (instead of just shooting you) and the St Valentine's Day massacre was horror, pure and simple.

I also remember lots of creepy TV things dealing with casinos; Angel:The Series had a couple of super spooky eps involving casinos. Star Trek:The Next Generation had one where they were trapped in a melodrama and couldn't escape....it sounds silly, but it was pretty creepy for ST. Supernatural had the wonderful Irish witch/gambler who would bet with the years of your life. Oh, and one of the most amazing pieces of music ever written, the Carmina Burana, was about not only about morality and religious tenants, it also had drinking and gambling. O fortuna, indeed.....

The music and look of the initial site opens up great stuff for me from Film Noir to German Expressionism. I love the style and the look and they could use lots of very current themes, including games like Bioshock and LA Noir. There's also lots of great lit from that time period, HP Lovecraft, Ray Bradbury, and even dear old Charles Addams. There was also the Invasion from Mars radio scare.

There's LOADS of stuff they can use. I can't wait to see what's next!!!

    Mae

ps There's also this! It was on demand a few months ago....

    Haunted Casino

  13. I agree that the icon as a roaming character would be pretty interesting. And as far as silent characters, Fear was more or less silent, wasn't he? Oh, he talked on the website...I suppose...did his mouth actually move?...but as far as park presence, he uttered not a peep. (He DID, however, wave his hands around idiotically like a spokesmodel on "The Price Is Right" revealing a new car in the Showcase Showdown...but that's another topic altogether.) So not talking isn't really a dealbreaker.

    Oh, and...um...I'm back.

They've all had things piped over the sound systems. Fear was especially prevalent in the area between The Simpsons and Central Park/Kidzone.

I like the idea of a silent icon. There is a house on one of my America Haunts recordings that does not have any speaking done by the scareactors. I find that intriguing.

ps IT'S ABOUT DAMNED TIME MR B!!!

  14. In an update to the previous photo; David went to a craft store, bought supplies, and MADE Dr Moo a fez. Even the tassel. I have the best husband, ever.

Dr Moo also now has a spiffy red bow tie. Bow ties are cool.

David bought me Dr Moo while I was in the ER last Friday. He's been my companion during the recovery, too. He has a blue bow tie on, which you can't see in the photo. I'm currently looking for a fez....
