  1. I hope it's an apocalyptic theme. It can work. I don't like Silent Hill and The Walking Dead - cash grabs and not creative. The design was created already through the series'.

I would love to see scare zones that are right outside of the house entrances with a nice transition between the two. For example, a snowy/fog ridden zone for Silent Hill, then zombies that are on the other side of the fog.

  2. Still related to Silent Hill..... BUT regarding a completely different aspect...

So we all know that Hollywood's event is a lot more graphic & sexualized than the Orlando event, but it seems that even with Hollywood's puppet masters pulling some of the strings this year, our event can't escape its dreaded PG rating....

    HHN Hollywood's Announcement:

    HHN Orlando's Announcement

The event hasn't even started yet and it is already being "censored" <_<

    Hint: The lack of cleavage.

One has a lot more legs showing, the other has cleavage. The bottom looks more vicious.

  3. All the complaining is just absurd. As several people have already stated, Universal continues to outdo themselves year after year with HHN, and there is no reason to believe that 2012 will be any different. Instead of dwelling on negative aspects that haven't even come to pass, why doesn't everybody try to think positive and have some fun

No, they don't outdo themselves every year. There has not been genuine, overarching atmosphere in years. The event hasn't been connected with a solid story in years. The scare zones have not seen scares in years. HHN 18 was the last year scare zones were genuinely entertaining and, at the same time, creative. Since HHN 15, there has not been cohesion to the event.

Ask ANYONE what were the best houses, and long time vets often will site older houses (Scream House, Body Collectors, Ghost Town, etc.). Yes, there are houses which worked well in recent years, I can't deny that - but those houses had something different about them. It may be the actors waiting even in FRONT of the queue's entrance, it may be the overall event was tied in better, but it was something.

When was the last time we had a genuine icon that wasn't rehashed to death?

  4. 1991. I was 14. The only thing I remember anymore is:

a.) You parked right in front of the arches and the parking atendants were dressed in cheesy (homemade?) costumes and

b.) D.O.T. the first house ever is burned into my memory.

Would you agree with me that the general atmosphere and excellence of the event peaked around HHN 14/15?

My only regret is not being able to see Body Collectors sad.gif curse you 2 hour wait! dry.gif

    Best house they made.

  5. Overall, a great weekend despite the downpours. The event has potential, as always opening weekend is always lacking things. Hoping they change a few things in weeks to come. I will start off by saying that I believe that it is the "scareactors" that make a house good....

Great weekend = low scores? Hmm. Disagree with your "actors make the house" comment, it is equal.

Otherwise, agree with the low scores.

  6. I'll take the illusion of a roof over no roof at all. Obviously it's not going to be a solid roof. I think they probably compromised with the inspectors this year so we at least get the illusion of a roof. I will just be happy we got what we got honestly.

I watched an Unmasking the Horror walkthrough on YouTube and the gentleman said that Universal purposely did not include roofs lately because they wanted ambient lighting and sound to add to the atmosphere.

  7. I feel your right when you say we're on an up swing. Or should I say I hope your right. If this year is like last year I don't think I can get my wife to allow me to spend the several thousand dollars necessary to attend HHN next year. She was disappointed last year to say the least. I liked last year based on the sets and the nostalgia feel. Overall last year was lacking in certain areas last year. The sets were amazing as always but overall there was just something missing for me. I still can't place what I felt was missing. Maybe it was the fact that Fear was just a photo op and had no real other presence in the park. I hope the rumors of houses being longer are true. Although if you say some are longer some are shorter I think it will all even itself out in the end. I do know they plan on using effects we've never seen before and that has me excited to no end. I think expectations being high this year is a good thing. I honestly can say I'm more excited for this year than I've been since 18 which is saying a lot.

With you on that. As I've said before, the sets are good, but the fear and atmosphere is gone. That's what made HHN 15, for example, special.

  8. One word for this year... Original. I love how everything is a new concept. Not that I don't like Dracula or Zombies but this all seems very creative and fresh. I can't wait for this year. I just have one question... Where is Lady Luck's house????

Fear didn't have a house, so that's fine. The event does sound original, finally, which is refreshing. The horrendous icon (why even bother at this point with one) has a scare zone.

  9. I have to think that they will improve on The thing house. You know they know that The thing Assimilation wasn't the best house. Honestly I'm not sure they could do anything but improve on that house as it really wasn't one of my favorites to say the least. I'm not excited but at the same time I'm not pissed off.

I wonder why Universal does not try to create a movie franchise from an HHN house. Nobody who was not willing to go to HHN in the first place will say, "Now I must go, they have The Thing!" Nobody who is there will be more likely to see the movie after the house. If they can create character(s) that do well, create a movie off of that!

  10. So the Thing house is officially...not as excited as I thought I'd be but not distraght either. It should be fun at the very least. And it's a prequel house, which means it won't be exactly like 07. I'm just...idk...not thrilled

With you on that one. I'm not feeling the theme nor the announced house this year.

  11. And all those that swore there would be no movie houses, because Universal told us so, maybe take away that there are no certainties when it comes to this event. Same is true of the whole "new era" idea. This house, while I'm very excited about and looking forward to, is rehashed and in no way "new".

I may be one of the few who enjoyed the first Thing house but I do hope they can improve on it.

I wished they didn't have it. The original was not great. Talk about a disappointment into hoping they would have truly new material.
