WixFlix
If all goes as planned, I will be attending college next year at Cal State Fullerton. If this does indeed happen, then I will for sure be auditioning for HHN. I have worked a haunt before and have learned much from it. (Timing, playing off of the guests reactions, improvising) but if anyone else would like to give their "two cents" to auditioning that would be great. Also if anyone would like some tips, I will do my best to give them. (Keep in mind I have never worked HHN, just a local haunt in San Diego "The Haunted Hotel") PS: its good to be back. Im sure most of you don't know who I am, but I have been around for awhile, back to the vault days. -WixFlix
Freak
Yes! Ladies and gentlemen, Wix is back in the house! Welcome back man! We've missed ya! I haven't seen Trevler or Havoc lately. They could give you some input on the issue. Since I've never been a scare actor (Except playing Michael Myers at my friend's house for a low-budget haunt on Halloween), I can't give any input here. DTH316
Wix! I'll give a few tips from the perspective as to what an attendee wants so maybe that'll help: Remember not to act the character but BE the character Never break character Give 200% dedication and come in filled with enough energy to give even more Go absolutely fucking insane Go in shape and ready to go. Build up your stamina and make sure to stretch before. You don't wanna get hurt before the event even starts. If you fuck up, "fake it until you make it" and make it seem intentional. If you fall or trip or something, don't get up and say "sorry." Find a way to include it in your routine. Those go for any audition as a matter of fact (in their own little ways)
AgentOfChaos93
I'll be auditioning this year as well! I've only worked my home haunt last year so DTH thanks for the tips
Zombie Robo
Going to try to become a SA this year too.. I worked Knotts but now that I live so close to Uni I won't have to spend so much money on gas and risk killing myself driving on those sleepy tired saturday nights... I remember that you were a couple days shy of 18 last year. As for advice all I can say is be confident and ready to show your skills. You have some experience under your belt which will help. Prepare your statement on "Why you would like to be part of the show", they always ask that question, even to the returning scareactors. be prepared to perform as a group for about a minute. Something along the lines of stalking each other, aggressiveness w/o touching, and style, (bob, weave, crouch). Most important thing is to have fun. This will hopefully be my third year, and it would be great to work with you guys. Once you get in, as I'm sure you will, it will be an experience you won't forget. ticktock
Universal is very specific on who they hire. Not every walk in or open call is guna get picked. You also gota join agva which is the union they belong with before playing any roles. If its guna be your first year your better off going too knotts or the queen mary to be an actor. Ya universal does a better job on what they have to offer. Buf they are no way the easiest too work for when it comes to hhn. They rely on the "rehires" too keep coming back. Hence thats where the mass amounts of people are picked from too work the event. But the choice is yours. Of course murdy is guna say everyone gets picked. Cause he need to get the mass amount of people interested to go and try. But wont tell you everyfhing else.

Just to comment on this, I know every year this always comes up, but I don't think that it is always true. If you want to go and audition go for it, I am going for my third time this year. The first time I went to audition I go the job. I never had any type of experience working for an event like this, but I just went in with a positive attitude and gave it my all. I don't know if I was just the average guy that would have fit any role, but I got the job. Every year there is always individuals claiming that Uni just lays out BS about the audition process. My two cents about all this is just go for it, have fun and go in with a positive attitude. If you want to increase your chances go and audition at Knott's & Queen Mary like tick suggested. Trevler
They don't do a type-out at the initial audition or really care about experience. . If they don't pick you to move on to second part of the process its cause you suck.

iRampage
Okay, couple questions i'd like to know for the near future: (i'm turning this upcoming Jan) 1) I'd love to be a slider, is there certain training i must go through BEFORE auditioning? And what is it like? I'd like to ask Heckler (from HHNVault) but i dont think hes signed up here?? 2) CAn you audition for both Knotts and HHN? Because if I get turned down by HHN, i'd love to go work for knotts, as long as i'm scaring haha
Trevler
Universal does not cast sliders. They're contracted out from a vendor. ZackT would be able to answer more questions in regards to that, since he's a former slider, but I dont know if he's been around lately. To slide at Knott's you have to be on Streets for one year before they'll let you take a slider test. Its usually very difficult to get a street spot your first year at Knotts, though now that they let people audition at New Hire, its not as impossible as it used to be. That being said... if you've never slide or scared before you really shouldn't be a slider right away. You can do whatever you want in regards to Knotts or HHN. One isn't going to know that you applied or auditioned at the other. Knott's open hiring is usually in August and you'll find out right away if they're going to hire you since for mazes its not an audition process. However, you're gonna have to camp out over night the first night of open hire because monster slots are more or less first come-first serve and they fill up VERY fast. iRampage
Camping out doesnt seem too bad because it'll be summer time lol. Hmm, well since sliding seems like it wouldnt be a high possible option for my first year scaring. Obviously I prefer street scaring instead of house scaring (because of the space I can use), does Uni give you your position based on how you do during auditions or no? Or will it be based on your body type, size, etc.

Trevler
Its based on a number of factors, including your type and how you do at the audition. There are a lot less licensed characters on streets though, so its not as much of a factor. Your ability plays a bigger part since its arguably more difficult then working a maze or at the very least takes a larger skill set. Im not sure how it works for new-hires, but as returning scareactor, you're asked what you'd like to do and they do take that into consideration. Knotts doesn't really cast, per say. You're allowed to pick your role out of whats available when it comes to mazes and the majority of street positions are generic characters so height and body type are not a factor.
