Get Here Early to Beat the Rush.
Come in September, since October is the most popular month for the event. Whenever you go, plan to get here at least an hour before the event starts so there’s less traffic driving over and less of a wait to park and pass through security.
Stay the Day and Be One of the First in at Night.
If you have event admission the same night as your daytime theme park admission, you don’t have to exit and reenter. Instead, when the park begins the switch to Halloween Horror Nights, you’ll wait in a Stay & Scream area until the event starts. Then you’ll get a head start right as everyone else is entering the front gate.
Stay Close to the Horror at a Universal Orlando Hotel.
Add hotel accommodations to your ticket so you can stay where you scream. Plus, guests of Universal Orlando hotels get special access^ to a dedicated entry gate each event night until 8 pm.
Start in the Back.
Don’t make the first-timer mistake of going to the first haunted house you see. Head to the back of the park first for a better chance at seeing more haunted houses.

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida – Freestyle Cup
Is it just us, or is September in Orlando hotter than ever before? Despite taking place mostly after dark, we were still sweating our ‘lil frog legs off all weekend at Halloween Horror Nights 30. Wear cool, comfortable clothes.
On top of being deceptively hot and humid, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida is a pretty intense event. Bring a water bottle to make staying cool a breeze and save money or purchase the HHN Freestyle cup for a fun souvenir. Aside from that, only bottled water is available for purchase.
Only Bring the Necessities
As with any visit to Universal, you will go through metal detectors … so we always recommend traveling as light as you can, but this holds especially true for Halloween Horror Nights. When walking through crowded haunted houses and being spooked by scare actors in the streets, you won’t want to be hauling too much with you. We recommend a small bag that securely closes … you don’t want anything important spilling out when you jump in fright!
Respect the Scare Actors
Last but not least, please remember that the scare actors are people too! No matter how monstrous they may seem, the scare actors will not actually touch or hurt you … so please treat them with the same respect! Keep your hands, food, drinks and any unkind words to yourself for the best experience for everyone involved. This event is all about having FUN! Avoid using flash to photograph any “creatures” in the scare zones, and just ask if you really feel the need. They’ll usually be happy to pose for (or with!) you.
Follow These Guidelines.
- No costume masks or costumes allowed. Your own terrified face will be enough.
- No food, drinks, bottles, video recording, flash photography, flashlights or laser pens are permitted in the haunted houses. Screaming and sobbing are perfectly fine, though.
- If you mistreat any of the Halloween Horror Nights performers, you’ll be sent home (possibly in pieces).
- Line jumping, foul language, and behavior that is not appropriate in public will be dealt with accordingly, including possible expulsion from the event.
- Warning signs can be found at the entrance of each attraction and haunted house to help determine the attractions that are suitable for guests based on their abilities.
- You may bring 1 sealed bottle of water through Security and into the event.
- The following items are prohibited, including but not limited to:
- Wallet chains
- Flashlights/laser pointers
- Fish hooks
- Clothing w/ sharp metal spikes

How old do you have to be to go to Halloween Horror nights?
There is no official age limit, this event may be too intense for young children, so we would recommend a Halloween Horror Nights age limit of anyone over 13.
Is there a charge to park for Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights?
Universal Orlando’s standard parking fees apply on Halloween Horror Nights event dates until midnight. After midnight on event dates, self-parking is complimentary.
Why do I need to select a start date for my Fear Pass?
Due to high demand and in an effort to help preserve the event’s unique guest experience, Fear Pass purchasers will be prompted to select a start date for their pass. We strongly encourage guests to purchase their Fear Passes early as nights are expected to sell out.
Why are some dates that are supposed to be a part of my Fear Pass entitlement not available as a start date?
Due to the event’s popularity and high demand, Halloween Horror Nights event nights are expected to sell out. If one of the applicable dates for the Fear Pass selected is not available as a start date, that means the event is sold out for that evening.
I purchased a 2023 Halloween Horror Nights Fear Pass and I need to change my pass start date. How can I do that?
Guests can change the original start date selected for their Fear Pass by doing one of the following:
- Utilizing our online Guest Services tool within the Universal Orlando Resort app
- Calling the Universal Orlando Guest Contact Center at 407-363-8000
- Visiting a Ticket / Pass Sales window or Guest Services window on Universal Orlando Resort Property
Please note that your new start date must be a date your Fear pass is valid and have availability.
Will prices for the Fear Passes vary based on my selected start date? And will I be charged if I change my start date?
No, the prices for the Fear Passes will not fluctuate based on the start date that is selected, and there is no charge to change the start date for your pass.
What will happen if I attempt to use my Fear Pass for Halloween Horror Nights on an event date prior to the one I selected during purchase?
Fear Passes will only be valid beginning on the start date selected upon purchase – they will not be valid for any visits prior to that date. Guests can adjust their start date by visiting a Ticket / Pass Sales window at the theme parks, calling the Guest Contact Center at 407-363-8000 or by utilizing our Guest Services tool within the Universal Orlando app. Please note that your new start date must be a date your Fear pass is valid and have availability.
If the event sells out on a night after my selected Fear Pass start date, will I be able to attend?
Yes, guests will be able to use their Fear Pass for any eligible event date that occurs after their selected start date, regardless of if the event is sold out.
Which dates are valid for Premier Annual Pass admission?
Premier Passholders receive one (1) free night admission^ to Halloween Horror Nights (on select nights only). On the night of your visit, you must present your valid Premier Annual Pass at any Universal Studios Florida turnstile.

What is Stay and Scream and how does it work?
Stay and scream is a feature of HHN that allows you remain in the park when normal daytime operations close at 5pm on HHN nights. HHN houses open early to Stay and Scream participants, before the main gates open at 6:30pm. The advantage of this is to let you skip the long line to get into the park while waiting inside, near the first house of choice. All of Universal, except some refreshment and restaurants, is closed during this period.
How do I get into Stay and Scream?
You must have both a) any valid daytime ticket. (An annual pass, a single day ticket, a S&S ticket – see more below), plus b) a valid HHN ticket for that night.
You must be inside the park gates before the 5pm closing for that day/night. Don’t cut it too close. Even with a valid HHN ticket, you can get caught up in the security sweep and forced to leave the park if you’re too late getting to a S&S holding pen. Best bet is to be in line for S&S area by 4:40pm at the latest.
Recently, Universal has started selling a “Stay and Scream” ticket that allows access to the parks beginning at 3pm. This also qualifies the ticket holder access to the Stay and Scream holding areas as long as you have a valid HHN ticket for that night. Currently, we are not aware of a requirement to have an HHN ticket in order to buy a S&S ticket.
I am in the park and have my HHN ticket, what’s next?
Once you are in the park for stay and scream, You need to pick a location to stay in. There are multiple S&S areas spread throughout the park. After 3pm on an HHN night, you will see fencing appear and ticket gates will be created inside the parks with team members ready to scan your HHN pass and let you in.
Each location is assigned a house (or two, if you’re in NYC or Springfield) so be sure to pick the right Stay and Scream location for you and your party. Once Stay and Scream opens, you will get your ticket scanned and then let into a “holding pen” in one of the designated areas in the park. Once inside, you have about an hour or so until a house queue opens. You will not be allowed to leave this area until the entire park opens up again at 6PM.
What are the Stay and Scream Locations and what houses are included?
Stay and Scream locations can change from year to year. Notice that not all houses have a early entry queue from S&S.
