Halloween Horror Nights 26 : Security Concerns and Questions

Can anyone answer my question about bringing an iPhone stabilizer in? Looks like a cross between a selfie stick and hand held tripod. Planning on filming with my phone in the scarezones.

Might want to call them to ask.

I saw someone last year that had what looked to be a horizontal tripod with no interaction with the ground.  Didn't have a gyro like a steadycam, but it was on some weird mounted sliding bar.

BUT, as I've stated many times, if you're not doing Stay and Scream all bets are off with security.  Some will let you through with a suitcase, others won't let you through with a change purse.  You never know...

True. Last year I had to toss out cliff bars and energy chees. Security guard was being a real dick about it too.

Might just go go with a small iPhone tripod and use a stabilizer app.

Since my shaming and escort out for buttons a few years back, I've smuggled things in bags attached to my body or in my shoes. Of course they weren't metal though. I won't bother with that nonsense anymore though. Handing out things was nice but not worth the harassment of security.

I've never had any issues bringing my DSLR, Lenes, GoPro and Video Camera in either in a backpack, messenger bag, or just hanging on my shoulder.   I've even brought in a monopod and I know others carry a compact/travel tri-pod as well.

We'll see what happens this year with the security setup they have now.

You do this during stay and scream or regular entry?

Stay & Scream, but I've brought just my camera in before for regular entry.   If your unsure call guest services and explain what you have and that you'll be entering HHN for regular hours non stay & scream and if you'll have issues with security.   Get  the persons name you talk to, and the date/time you called for reference that you could use in case you encounter an issue.  I would do this a few times to see if you get different answers,  if you do ask to speak to a manager and explain your getting conflicting information that you wold like to know for sure before you arrive to the park.  If they say yes you can, see if they will email you a something as well stating that you can.

As some have said security is never on the same page and it's touch and go on who you get, the mood of the day, etc.  Hell weeks and school off nights tend to be a little more strict.

Speaking of bringing things into the park... I know each year they've given us a bit of guff for even bringing in a small vial size bottle of Advil. This year I plan on bringing in my pain meds in the prescription bottle. Anyone ever have issues bringing in meds like this? I honestly can't see how they wouldn't let me through, but with each year security everywhere we go gets more strict.

Make sure it has the Rx label clearly readable on it and you have your photo ID to show it's yours.  If they give you any shit, ask to see their supervisor.

I've been some places that wanted to make me leave my Rx's in a first aid station and go there to use them.  Screw that.  Especially for pills...just crotch it and they'll never pat you down there and the wands won't detect it :)

last year I saw a woman in a wheel chair get wheeled through the metal detector and security was giving her all kinds of shit about her Rx bottles. They were actually opening the bottles and asking what each medication was for. Im no lawyer but Im pretty sure addressing that kind of info in public is highly illegal. PLUS... and I hate to sound mean... but this dummy is a security guard. Not a Dr or a pharmacist. I doubt she could even pronounce has the names of the pills. So the lady in the wheel chair asks why she think she can ask about her meds and what they are for the security lady says "this is standard practice". No its not and I would think they would be placing themselves in a bad position for a law suit. But again, Im no lawyer. But this was a real shit show and it held us up a good 15 minutes bc we were right behind this group. I get the need for safety but unless this chick had a pistol or some dynamite HURRY IT UP!!!! lol

I always take in ibuprofan. I put it in a plastic bag and put it in my pocket. Just dont address it. They arent cavity searching anyone.

I has been two years since i've attended but for four years in a row I had made it a point to make it to Orlando, it was interesting to watch the severity of security procedures increase.

The last time I went, it took my party 45 minutes to move from the spinning globe just outside the park into the gates to a point where we could walk without being caught in a crowd.  That's 2-3 houses with an express pass.

But as you said, there's a greater need for security based on events occurring in the world that hadn't been considered or prepared for.  We're all going to suffer for that garbage in the long run.

How has HHN handled security towards suspicious people and whatnot in the past?

If anyone calls guest services regarding camera equipment and/or prescription medicine please post what the outcome is and who you spoke to so we can keep tabs on the information.

I'm interested in how the whole metal detector scene will play out. We all know how crazy that mass of humanity trying to get through security at the front gate for HHN each night was. Well now that the metal detectors have taken permanent residence in the parking hub, does that mean there's no more security at the front gate for HHN? If so then what kind of a nightmare is this going to cause for crowd control in the hub with the HHN crowd trying to get in and the normal guests trying to get out?

Interesting, I have never knew you could bring a mono pod in the gates during HHN or Regular Hours. I understand mileage will vary per day.

Stay and scream never gives me any problems, but if you can't do that, I would try to go through citywalk early and get a early dinner/late lunch so you only have to go through 1 set of heightened HHN security.

Not to mention I never got my gift I was tirelessly searching you out for.

Any idea on how security has handled vape pens in the past couple years? Curious if anyone has had any issues bringing one in to the park. Also, I'm doing Stay and Scream each night, so I am not sure if their is simply a metal detector wand or full-blown walk-through security arch at the holding pens.

This year is a bit unprecedented as they now have full blown metal detectors just to get into Citywalk. No idea if they will again check at the gate or if this will be considered enough. My guess they will check again because... Well i have the worst experiences with HHN security.

Vape pens, as of last I heard, was regulated to designated areas just like any other smoking. There was talk at one point of banning them but they decided on handling them like normal smokers.

Following up...

I called guest service and they said hand held phone stabilizers are OK.  When I asked if they could email me that in writing, they said no and it is 100% up to security.

So, *shrugs* ?
