THE PURGE

This year's Purge is more brutal than ever. From the moment you step inside the house, dozens of vicious vigilantes will descend upon you as they exercise their right to purge.

Quote

Are you ready to face the chaos of The Purge again? You better be, because the Purge is returning to Halloween Horror Nights—and this year, we’re taking it to the next level.

You may remember our wildly-successful Purge scarezone from last year’s event—complete with violent and chainsaw-wielding citizens. This year, prepare yourself for the same turmoil and more as you find yourself living your very own “Purge Night” within the confines of an all-new house experience.

You’ll be hunted by dozens of masked vigilantes who will stop at nothing to purge as they are entitled. And just like in the films, you’ll either fight to survive or succumb to the chaos of the Purge.

Good luck.

Universal Orlando’s horrifying “Purge” maze will expand upon the incredibly popular and terrifying films and place guests in the midst of a chaotic Purge night where the tradition has commenced.  As they navigate the maze, they will quickly realize that they are the targets for this year’s Purge.  Guests will be hunted by dozens of masked vigilantes who will stop at nothing  to purge as they are entitled.

“Building on the success of last year’s scare zone, this time our guests will live their very own ‘Purge Night’ within the confines of an all-new house experience,” said Michael Aiello, Director of Entertainment Creative Development.  “Just like in the film, guests will find themselves within arm’s reach of the most sadistic collection of killers imaginable. Their only want and need is to express their right to purge and purge they will."

The Purge (Tent 1) was a late addition to HHN25 after intellectual property issues prevented a Scream house from gracing us with its presence in the tents. Also, HHN just tackled the popular movies last year and no third installment to the film series was released this year to bring something new to the table. So, instead of repeating the past, Wallace said that The Purge house will be their own personal take and twists on The Purge story, which sounds like we’ll be getting an original-style house that is simply based on an IP. Could be promising.

I guess the leak list everyone was sharing is officially bogus. I think it could be a good house but it makes more sense as a scarezone.

It wasn't bogus until Scream got scrapped on Friday.

Actually pretty excited for this. I wanted a Purge house last year, so hey. Honestly, more excited for this than I would be for Scream. There's more characters, and based of the tweets, more unique scenes (Hunting Arena, NFAA Rebels).

And let's be real, if they replaced it with an original, they would have probably have to have made an all new story, and characters, and concepts, and that would take too long, this late in the game.

To be honest, I was really excited for a Scream house (it was kind of my most anticipated house out of the IPs), but I'm open to a Purge house. Really curious to see how they transition it into a maze. Just hope we get some small a Scream Easter egg (you know, for all of those die hard fans that knew what was supposed to go down) ....or at least I hope I can recognize some of the sets that were supposed to be for Scream.

I hope they sneak whatever Ghostface mask they were going to use into the maze.

Meh hated the movies. The Scarezone was just recycling past event's masks (instant scarezone! old masks?... just add weapons!), and this actually makes me want to go less than scream.

They'll use an old scarezone, save money and advertise it as if it was meant all along as part of 25th anniversary. Yay for Universal?

I better see a Purger crushing someone's head with a garage door.

Since this is a last-minute change, I wonder how much familiarity with Scream will be in the house. I'm interested in knowing which scenes were going to be in Scream that Purge replaced (I.e. the Hunting ground).

I really like The Purge and I'm sure it'll be a good house, but man am I disappointed we're not getting Scream. I LOVE Scream. It would've been my 2nd most anticipated house of the year. Purge will be a few lower at leasr

I'm really excited for this house in all honesty, Purge is a top favorite of mine. And I wanted to spend the whole time in the zone last year. To experience it as a house will probably be awesome too. Most anticipated house, beating out Insidious.

I liked the Purge well enough (the sequel more than the first one). I'm excited to see how the scarezone translates into a house. I hope there's throwbacks to the original Scream plans, as well, even if it's just a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sort of thing.

Posting a video for the maze now makes it kind of obvious this was a last minute replacement doesn't it? Regardless, this has a lot more potential than Scream IMO so I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Couldn't agree more with it being a couple days late. However, hopefully it shouldn't be too too difficult to transition since they still have a bunch of Purge costumes, sets, etc. left over from last year. If we were talking original Scream, there'd be a lot more disappointment on this thread.

Yeah, I could understand the disappointment but even if the maze was originally supposed to be based off of the movie and not the TV show, I feel like it would feel too similar to Halloween, just less scary. Regardless, the creative freedom the team has with Purge should make this last minute replacement not too hard to do with the time given. It'll be interesting to see the final product.

why was Scream scrapped? where the sets made already?

First Question: Rights Holders pulled out. Something about using the TV Show over the Movie and stuff like that.

Second Question: I believe that is a yes.

Haha. Thanks! I bought the mask last year and some friends and I did a Purge PSA for video production class. Needless to say, ours stood out from the rest of the videos.
