HHN 23: Rocky Horror Tribute Show

Recommended Posts

Umm...I hope it is edgy and not sanitized.

Also, I wish they would do "The Devil's Carnival" instead but maybe I am alone on that.

No I agree. Anything other that the show we've had 2 years in a row would be better

This is shorter version, they show stills of the movie and have some actors. You can see a better version as close as City Walk multiple times in a month.

Maybe, just maybe, they'll put it in Terminator and do it like an actual shadow-cast.

The first year was the best. I don't think they would want it to be like every other RHPS you can see anywhere else including Citywalk.

It's still better than what we've had since it went away.

What's a showing of RHPS at the Citywalk Amc Theatre like? Are there live performers? Do fans bring props abd dress up? Or is it just a movie? Ik this has nothing to do with the tribute, but It has something to do with RHPS.

Now, I haven't seen the screenings in person, but from what I do know the performers are a troupe known as the Rich Weirdoes, and some of the fans do dress up (all while trying to ensure that Universal Security don't bust them for dressing scantily) and there are props involved (except for candles and buttered toast, of course.

Love this movie and first year since i can see it, since in 09 was going in and it started to storm really badly, what can i expect?

it's an abridged version of the film, and like the screenings, there are callbacks which can be obscene at times (what's hilarious is that even though the maps say that swearing is something that can eject you from the park, the RHPS tribute is the only place where you can get away with swearing since it's part of the callbacks).

the maps really say that?

what does that mean? does that mean that if you say a curse word in a house while getting scared can get you kicked out?

It means directly offensive language at someone (or saying something so offensive it draws attention) can lead to your removal from the park. It's more to prevent potential conflicts than anything.

It more applies to outside of houses, though.

this makes me wonder if someone has actually been kicked out from that. it's such a common thing sometimes I am surprised about it.

I think it's more of a CYA than anything else. So that if someone is being truly obnoxious they can point to the "no swearing" rule as their grounds for ejecting them.

Cursing as an exclamation when you get scared shouldn't be an issue. Cussing out the scareactor afterwards might be... :)

A couple dozen fans who are incredibly into the show, who know all the call-backs, and who jump up to do The Time Warp. Many more people looking at them strangely and not sure what they've walked into. Also, more walk-outs than I've seen in any other theme park show.

Oh, you meant the show itself. Essentially a 30 or 40-minute heavily abridged version of what you'd see in a theater. Time Warp is in there. "There's A Light" is in there. Meat Loaf's character (and the best song, IMO) is not. No audience props.

Haha. Last time I went there was some teens saying "WTF is this?" I was laughing because it is pretty strange if your not familiar with it.

Even worse this year with people not knowing WTF was going on. Was at the first show yesterday, and there were a couple of people doing call backs and maybe five stood up to do the Time Warp. Very disappointing, as I'm sure it won't be back if this keeps up. I felt sorry for the cast because it was a very small, unenthusiastic audience overall (including the requisite jackass with their young kid).

What makes me kind of sad (But it is funny too) it is to see people leave in a hurry when they see Dr. Frank-N-Futer lol (It is funny because they freak out)

but I still feel pretty bad that it finally comes back and people are being dumb like that. I also noticed the first weekend there was not that much participation, I mean, There is always some...

Not Trying to be negative or anything but I don't think Rocky Horror might come back.... I mean I hope it does, but i won't be surprised.

I'm honestly surprised it is back. HHN was the first time I was introduced to Rocky Horror and I walked out, but that show actually got me on to the movie and I fell in love with it. But like I said, I did walk out because I just didn't get it. It doesn't help either that the show is only bits and pieces of the movie.

They really should have done what Legacy suggested with the shadow cast in terminator. I think that would have made it a lot better.

ok, I spoke to one of the black-shirt wearing staff members, and they told me that when it comes to the callbacks, their requirements are that they don't use the word fuck, contain overly sexual overtones, and especially that other f-word which has now been considered too much for the tribute.

I wonder how this is handled, do they ask those people to leave the park?

Every time I've done the show, the callback "F__ the back row" has always been said. Even if it's a small group of people, but it has always been said. So it makes me curious.

other F word?

So basically it's pointless for them to have this show. The ones who would be offended at the callbacks are the same ones that will flee the minute the Sweet Transvestite makes his appearance. The ones who understand and love the show won't come to see it in its neutered form because, really, what's the point? Rocky Horror is the sort of thing that, if you're going to do it, you have to do it completely or it's just not worth having at all.

other F word?

for those who do the fully vulgar callbacks, a "Naruto Orange" or black shirt staff member kindly tells them to tone it down (which serves like a first strike), and I take that the next time they call someone out, they get escorted out of the show. However, I did hear some who got away with the "F The Back Row" callback, so it might be ok with that one.

As for that other F word, after the show when I spoke to that black shirt staff member, he told me that the reason why that other F word was not allowed anymore (hint: Ann Francis stars in Forbidden ******), it was because it's now considered a strong homophobic term which is too much for the park's atmosphere.

I hate to say it, but they need to just kill this show. Without callbacks, there's literally no point because no one cares. Yes, it's obsence and offensive. That's what makes it Rocky Horror. Either have the balls to do it right, like it was done in years past, or don't bother. I long for the original days when they first had it and emphasized that there would be filthy language and offensive words right from the start and encouraged the crowd. Too bad they're not as dilligent about kicking out people who smoke in line as they are in attacking those who use the F-words. Heck, I'd like to see them throw out people screaming swear words in other parts of the park. From what I've heard around me already this year, Rocky must be the only place that swearing is banned.

I hate to say this but you're right. What good is having RHPS when you can't use the good callbacks which were used in 2009 which were usually the foul mouthed callbacks which were usually used by the Rich Weirdoes groups?

everytime the one callback that never gets missed is the F the back row, that and the a-hole-slut callbacks are always said,

but, Man... talk about a tough crowd.

It feels weird when only like 2 people are doing the callbacks, Specially when everyone else starts to look weirded out (which is kind of funny, people start looking at the callbacks like if they are crazy or something, the people in front of me today kept rolling their eyes and wondering what was going on hahaha)

but yeah, sometimes I barely hear anyone shouting back. It's sad because the show is still pretty awesome. I really love it this year, everyone in the show is pretty great.

today there was a guy smoking while watching the show... I kid you not.
