There’s no such thing as evidence in this game until summer. It’s all rumor and speculation. About a week before the first announcement is the first time “evidence” happens. Before then, it’s all whispers, conjecture, and wishful thinking. And while I can just blurt our all the rumors I’ve heard, all that does is get people’s hopes up without changing the fact that it’s still just rumor. That mess used to be over here, too. Whether I instigate it or it follows me is open for debate. But without the mess, HHN boards become ghost towns.

My coworkers insist that I go to "Disney" every year, despite me explaining several times what HHN is, and that it's at Universal. They also think that Harry Potter is at "Disney" BTW.

And yet 80% of that map absolutely sells ME on going to the event. Different strokes.

In my opinion, if ever there was a year where things are up in the air, it's this one. Even with IP contracts in place, I can imagine ANYTHING can change at this point. Look at how movie studios are now pushing out their release plans. Those delays will ripple. For example, who knows if Candyman will be pushed out or if it will even release this year. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear originals announced first or if all announcements will be late. So this year may be like the good old days - when no one knew what was coming until it was announced. I wouldn't even be surprised if Hollywood backed off the "apocalyptic virus zombie house" (a.k.a. TWD) if the US has a much higher than expected death rate. Bill & Ted may get a go simply because it's a show intended to make you laugh. Might even be a very light year for gore, as they did in 2001. And number of houses? I seriously doubt 11. Heck, 10 might not even happen. Think about this: some major airlines have already said they are not resuming international service with Asia until OCTOBER. If similar happened with Europe, that's a non-insignificant amount of the HHN GP. The crystal ball is very cloudy as to what domestic travel will be like a short 6 months from now. Remember, viruses tend to flare up again later in the year... You had better believe theme park execs are video conferencing right now as to how or if they might be able to enforce a 6 foot separation rule in queues. I'd give the event about a 90% chance of happening at this point. Expect anything. Believe me, it's not fun being the pessimist in a room full of optimists. But that's what a pessimist would say...

The rumblings are still in favor of Scarecrow appearing at the event, though in what capacity is still TBD I think it's safe to say that any plans to have a zombie/virus related house/scarezone, are out the window. Here's an interesting exercise to help pass the time: Anyone want to compile a list of zombie/virus related scenes for a theoretical anniversary house or full houses(both original and IP, or speculated) that they will NOT be doing? I think it's safe to say we can rule these out. Also..... NO WALKING DEAD! C0NF1RM3D!@#

How about this? Give the children and the moneygrubbers what they want. Give her a stupid lagoon show and maybe a zone or a house, but then make EVERY OTHER house and sz original, icon or mashup of the two or sequel to an original(minus IT and Conjuring). Then the kids can all go watch this Billie Eilish BS and leave the rest of the event to the fans of the actual event. Edit: This is not an attack on her personally, as I know she's a fan of the event and maybe a lovely person, but her music is just as unoriginal as the next pop princess, imo(get off my lawn).

I'm pretty sure the 80s theme is done now. The theme in 2018 wasn't originally planned to be 80s, it was more of a coincidence, which is why it was only featured in certain areas and then loosely represented everywhere else. Once they saw how much people loved it they went all in on it in 2019 with over the top merchandise, shows, drinks, signage, and heavy synth music everywhere. With it being an anniversary year in 2020 I'd expect a more traditional HHN with things like Icons making a return. Although...if they wanted to keep Marathon of Mayhem around for another year I wouldn't complain.

First - hello all - long time.. excited to be back reading spec for this year. I would LOVE it if they finally got a Conjuring house. I've said for ages that I thought the original Conjuring movie was the scariest horror movie in 10 years. I was so disappointed that it was pulled due to legal issues a couple years go. Other than that - my wish list is the same as it has been for years. I figure if I keep repeating it, maybe some day, one or all of these will happen: Phantasm - I've wished and wished for this every single year. I've told TJ and Aiello and David Hughes directly that we needed this. Hope I planted a seed. Stephen King - yes, I know. I, of all people, know of his resistance to allowing a haunt to do a house based on his stuff. But, I can still wish. However, as SK himself says, "Wish in one hand, crap in the other, and see which fills first." Bloody Mary - if they were able to bring her back, I would lose my mind Legendary Truth - how can we have a HUGE anniversary year without LT??? Body Collectors - another version of BC would be great. We've had SO MUCH FUN in the BC houses previously. The actors have been amazing, and they all play with us An original as breathtaking as Winter's Night A scarezone in Central Park like Grown Evil - one of my faves of all time Monster of Mayhem Part 2 in Lagoon And here is my last big one: A "limited edition HHN only Horror Makeup Show". I've laid this out many times, but it's a new spec year, so I'll do it again. Every year at HHN, we walk by the Horror Makeup Show and wonder aloud why this isn't used at a HORROR event. There are always so many of us asking for more shows.. so why not use one of the best gems they have sitting RIGHT THERE? Theme the limited edition show to include whatever content is out there for that year.. create a script around that. Play some clips from the trailers of whatever IPs are being featured that year. Give a little makeup / FX history in the script for those same IPs. It's pretty much a no-brainer.. and they would fill that little theater for every single show. It would also be the humor show we've all been missing since the loss of B&T - but this would be better because the humor would be tailored to the event and the jokes wouldn't be stale. I presented this idea to A&D last year.. the response was "can I steal that idea?". YES, YES YOU CAN. Let's all start hoping now.

I now have a full treatment going for my goofy idea, "The Dungeon of Terra-Cruentus" that I should post in the creative thread, and it's a little more developed than what's below; but here's what I first sketched out for the random scene ideas I had in the early-going: 1. ENTER - Dungeon Wall Facade (2 actors = Eelmouth on top of the dungeon entrance, watching over a captive Storyteller suspended in a cage, who is being forced to read a new chapter in Cruentus's history) 2. Spider Room (1-2 actors = dying monk, combating monk/soldier) 3*. Spider hallway half-room with animatronic 4. Rat Lady Chamber (probably stopped seeing the Rat Lady at HHN for a multitude of safety/ethical reasons, so not an exact replica of this room but a twist of some sort) 5. Dining Room/Chainsaw Sacrifice 6. Sacrificial Chamber - Terra Queen using her knife on a victim actor 7. Skool in the Graveyard (3 actors = tombstone scare kids) 8. Bridge Back to the Dungeon (Knucklegrunt actors & static figures lurk in the "waters" here) 9. Body Collectors Dungeon Takeover (classic DoT & Collector gags here - hanging man, spine rip, etc...) 10. Body Collectors Dungeon Takeover 2 (more aggressive Collectors in tighter spaces here) 11. Finale - Terra Queen is sacrificed to complete the cycle, Queen's bike-prop scares guests as they pass by exiting the house Soundstage 24, maybe? I only thought that because my idea for the facade is fairly close in scope/style to Scary Tales: DEA. That or a parade building could probably house it too, considering how tall the scenery reached in Monsters & Graveyard Games this year. None of this will likely happen. But this would be a sweet, gory, delicious trip back in time.

So it's almost Halloween and I wanted to post some final thoughts before my last night in attendance. This year has had some of my favorite houses ever. Surprisingly for the first time ever my list really didn't change from most anticipated to what turned out to be my favorite. The only exception was Nightingales briefly, but what a comeback they had! A couple of people have commented that this year seems 'weird' or 'off'. I think a better term for this year would be experimental. There are some amazing houses that really clicked with what I wanted from the event. In addition US, Ghostbusters and Killer Klowns were amazing film-to-house adaptions. In my personal opinion an issue some of the fans had with these houses were not with their quality but their scare factor - that's not anyone but the IPs fault if that was an issue. Quite frankly Ghostbusters, US and Killer Klowns are not scary films - especially when compared to IP houses such as Halloween or Poltergeist which achieved being the best adaptation and one of if not the scariest houses in their respective years. I now understand one of the reasons why we've gotten Halloween 4 times over the past few years. Michael Myers is scary and the character works regardless of the quality of the film it's based off of. One of the reasons the originals ended up being so much scarier than other houses is the same reason Nightingales went from a rough house to a worthy sequel. The actors could find their groove and intensity to develop an already scary creature and environment into frightening experience. No matter how good a Ghostbuster is at filling his role, he will simply never get scarier. Ghostbusters (and Stranger Things last year) are some of the best theme park attractions Florida has seen in years but are only decent Haunted Houses. A final note on the issue of IPs: Us is so different and ridiculously good at the end of the night/ when it's empty. The scare actors are incredibly creepy and its unlike anything I've seen at HHN. With all of the above said, adaptation preference is simply that - a preference on what elements the event has. The REAL issue this year was the scare-zones. This is where the experimental issues were the most present. It's like every different zone had different testing elements. I do truly feel that they're trying to figure out how to proceed with scare zones now and into the future. I expect them to eventually hit the mark, after all, HNN does this event better than anyone else. I still don't like a single thing about Vanity Ball though (and I really don't like saying anything like that about a part of the event. I know A&D and the actors work very had to make the event so fun). I had a great time so far this year and can't wait to go back for a final trip. I loved hearing everyone's experiences and stories and I appreciate all those who post who keep me coming back to this forum. Happy Halloween everyone! Make sure to follow all the rules and avoid a visit from Sam because it's almost speculation season again!

I'm amazed that people actually continued to think this event was going to happen. Perhaps it was unrealistic hopeful thinking? We have witnessed situations in the world that have never been seen in most of our lifetimes, if ever, before. The Walt Disney Company with all of their parks closed worldwide for months at a time. Entire seasons of sports being cancelled. Mega-cities literally devoid of anyone on the streets and in public week after week after week. Tens of thousands dead each month and hundreds of thousands infected. Economies in shambles. And some thought a company was going to cram pack a Halloween event with night after night of crowds?

According to my wife, I am definitely non-essential. In California. My kids are doing remote learning. My wife is doing remote teaching. I am doing remote working. Stores are stocked, but waits are over an hour even if you show up before opening. It's like having to buy your food from Hagrid. My 17 year old daughter just doesn't get why she needs to be practicing social distancing. My son is a gamer, so it kind of came naturally... We have a little dog and I looked up what would happen if she got sick. Vets are open by appointment only. You drive your pet to the vet. They meet you at your car window, take the animal and you wait. Kind of like if Uber Eats served pets. We can still eat out, but only for take out, or home delivery. Business are hurting terribly. Everyone is terrified of losing their job. This will end, and the economy will come back stronger than ever. I really believe this. Gotta believe it because of the alternative. If any of you feel anxious and afraid, I REALLY recommend you listen to Scott Adams (the Dilbert comic strip creator), who does a non-political Periscope once or twice a day. He is completely rational to listen to and I feel so much better as he talks about the crisis. Not political. Not happy talk. Not scary talk. Not comedy. Just level headed commentary. There's a good chance you will feel calm afterward. Take care, everyone.

I'm surprised this, from The Ifrit, has not been addressed on here: Seeped in blood, the roots have grown Vines of iron branch like a throne A flame is stoked, the fires lit A blade is forged in the pit Guards await, calm and steady Berries ripe, wine is ready Hold your hope within reason And prepare for the season Is this too obviously Terra Queen?

2011 was a FANTASTIC year - one of the best ever in my opinion. While Lady Luck was not a very memorable icon, the way she was weaved into all of the houses was very cool. The In Between was easily the best 3D house I've been in anywhere in the country. Saws & Steam backstory was described very well above. The final room was very close to that of Depths, but there was a waterfall separating you from the baddie ahead of you. In S&S, the costume was reminiscent of Big Daddy, and he came charging through the waterfall at you. Winter's Night was every bit as beautiful as Graveyard Games (which is my new GOAT) Forsaken was loosely based on The Fog, but was epic in scale, with a massive shipwreck in the middle of it. Nevermore was a Poe fan's nirvana. HR Bloodengutz was a great blend of comedy and horror, served with a side of 'memberberries. And 2011 was where Nightingales began, with the location being the trenches in WWI. 2011 was the last time HHN had overwhelmingly original houses. The pendulum swung hard to IP in 2012 and it took a long time to get back to even a 50/50 split.

If a Beetlejuice house is even close to capturing the movie like the Ghost Busters house I'm completely sold on the idea.

Saws n' Steam, Vanity Ball, and Depths of Fear all borrowed elements from BioShock so that might be the closest you get. Still though, maybe one day.

I'll second the suggestion to look up the story behind the event. It was incredible. This was when HHN took place in IOA, yet they used three of the nearby soundstages. Everyone was coming off of the Lord of the Rings trilogy along with the second Hobbit movie released the year before, so as the site was coming to life, many (including me) were rolling our eyes saying it looked like they were trying to do a LOTR themed event. It was anything but. Between the look of Jurassic Park area and Lost Continent (before potter moved in), the park was ideal for what they did. They even managed to make it seem like you weren't in Marvel Island (mostly). HHN 30 must - MUST - have some reference to Terra Queen. Even though they came up with this under Michael J Roddy (who preceded TJ Mariano who preceded Mike Aiello) the people currently running HHN are well aware of the prophecy and won't let the 30th go by without paying homage. I have zero doubt about that. Personally, I'd love it if they somehow were able to use Lost Continent area of IOA for HHN 30 - had it become Terra Curentus complete with a house, even though there was no house in that area for HHN 15. But they do have the Sinbad theater at their disposal... And since it's so near, imagine if they had Hagrid open during HHN. A guy can dream...

It's crazy that there is going to be less nights for 30 than there was for 29. I wonder what they do with their ratio of IPs to Originals for 30. We just saw 6 IPs and 4 Originals for 29. What are the odds they do more originals than IPs for 30? I think it's extremely low, but from Universal's quote: “re-imagined haunts inspired by the past”, they may go heavy on the originals. It's just hard to believe since the event relies on the IPs to draw the masses in. In terms of bringing people in, unless Universal acquires the rights to It, this may be a slow year. Not slow, but the event will definitely see less people than the last couple years. ST4 is probably going to come out after 30 and I doubt they do a Stranger Things mashup house or strictly season 3 house next year. They almost have to get It. No current horror property other than It is big enough to bring in the amount of people that Stranger Things did. I believe this was Universal's plan all along, though. They knew that once there wasn't material to work with with Stranger Things that not as many people would show up. However, they got so many people to buy tickets to 28 and 29 and those people enjoyed everything else HHN has to offer, so now those people will return to the event no matter what IPs they have just based on how good the houses and scarezones are. But they still do need a big IP to back the event and, again, It really is the only true horror draw of the past couple years other than Stranger Things. Gotta see how Dr. Sleep does in the box office and if they bring Haunting of Hill House or something else that people really enjoyed. Either way, those two properties aren't nearly as big as It or Stranger Things. 30 will be an interesting year that may cater more to the diehards than the masses, which is an awesome thing. But that's not how a massive corporation like Universal works. They strictly care about selling tickets and boosting attendance numbers. They don't care about old money, they want the money of those who've never been yet to add to their dough from the old money they know they'll get year after year. That's why they're probably doing everything they can, if they haven't already, gotten the rights for It and are going to bring back big names like Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, and Chucky. Excited to see what this coming year of speculation and announcements bring!

My line up I would love to see next year would be 1. Nightmare on elm street:cause you can never have to much Freddy. 2. The Witcher: if a Netflix property is to be featured I think a bad ass monster hunter house would be cooler then haunting of hill house. I just personally feel like hill house wouldn’t translate that well into a show. 3. Candyman: Jordan Peele got a US house this year and is apparently happy with the final results so I can absolutely see his sequel coming to the event next year. 4. Halloween 2018: having the first before Halloween kills comes out a month later just makes sense to me 5. 13 Ghosts: it’s probably the least likely of the 5 IPs but would love to see this house eventually!!! 6. Dungeon of Terra Cruentes: it’s been said why this house needs to be done above and I just absolutely think this is a bad ass name and could be a seriously twisted house! 7. Slaughter sinema 2: the first house was such a huge success and the ideas for this house are endless and I could see it becoming the new scary tales. 8. Nightingales vs Body Collectors 9. Scarecrow sequel 10. A brand new original house because I don’t want to see just old properties the entire event

I have a speculation map to come with this. Dungeon of Terra Cruentes (Soundstage 21) - Thanks to FaceBagman for that amazing name. This would be half Terra Queen house, half anniversary house, and take Monsters & Mayhem's place for longest house of all time. IT (Soundstage 22) - With the IT films finished (for now at least), I think it's now time to bring Pennywise to the event. All Nite Die-In: Usher'd In (Soundstage 24B) - As FaceBagman also came up with, a mash-up of The Director and The Usher. Psychoscareapy: Bloody Bolts (Soundstage 24A) - With the new Shadybrook Junkyard open, the ruthless inmates take the opportunity to set up a weapon station. A Nightmare On Elm Street (Soundstage 25) - Freddy Kreuger is inside Depths of Fear this year, and I believe it may be this year's "house hint" for next year. And not just the first film, but the original trilogy. RUN: Havoc Forever (MIB Tent) - Teaming up with the escaped Dogs, this newest airing of RUN is even bloodier than ever. Carnival Graveyard: House of Horrors (Sprung Tent 2) - The House of Horrors that Jack himself was found in has been shipped over to Sal's Amusement Salvage, where Jack has now taken leadership over the carnies, and their new main home being the House of Horrors itself. Scream (Sprung Tent 1) - Let's get Scream back, come on! Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (New Parade Building) - If they're continuing with their Halloween pattern, then Halloween 5 is next. Vanity Ball: Devilish Delight (Parade Building) - Scare zone to house treatment, and Vanity Ball has been insanely popular this year. Plus as many have already said, it would make an amazing house. H.R. Bloodengutz Presents Holidays of Horror: Rerun (Shrek 4D Theater 2) - The magnificent return of our glorious H.R. Bloodengutz.

I asked during my UTH tour and the answer was a definitive YES. You die at the end. They worked very hard to make that black hallway soundproof, so the only things you heard were the whispers of the dead calling to you. I don't think that's a spoiler for anyone. This house is right up there with Poltergeist as GOAT. So funny, because I didn't expect either to be all that good before I went in. Usually I go through houses with a big grin on my face. But for these, my mouth was hanging open from start to finish. Was so blown away by the visuals and storytelling. After that, the big stupid grin appeared every walkthru.

Just had a thought. Would this not be the perfect year to open up HHN at IOA and USO? Bring in the same capacity, but double the space and maybe use IOA as the "holding zone" for guests that have a virtual queue reservation for the houses at Universal? You can add food, a show and some scarezones to IOA, but that way the capacity could be cut in half while still entertaining and feeding the guests. Yes, operational costs would go up, but I think guest satisfaction would go through the roof knowing that people could spend less time in line and more time walking around a general haunt vibe that has been expanded. Just my 2 cents.

Annabelle & The Nun would be used at the marketing for the films because those films are centered around them, they could find a way to make the house work, they did with Insidious, they can do it with this one but not rush it. Universal Monsters was a big opportunity, of course they took advantage and did it last year because also coincided with Hollywood’s sequel house. King has ownership of his property, so it’s not WB’s permission they need to ask for the film, they would have to go to King but I am sure King is still hesitant since they went behind and did Shining but then again maybe they found a way to work on an arrangement and it could happen but at the moment, everything is tight lipped also with this said by Murdy I’m not sure this could be a joint ip or exclusive ip for them but I’m sure it’s leaning towards joint.

Just returned from a 5 night stay. Attended 4 nights (9/25, 9/26, 9/27, 9/29). Didn't attend on Saturday because I caught the creeping crud and was sick as a dog. Pro tip that I failed to heed: Purell is your friend... I say that this event took place in the Upside Down because everything I thought was going to be great was not, and everything I thought was going to be so-so was great. Almost without fail. As usual, I'll go category by category HOTEL Stayed at Sapphire Falls once again. Big plus is the water taxi. Big negative is the water taxi - because it's mobbed by people staying at Cabana and Aventura. I really wish they would check hotel keys... Another big negative is no vending machines on site. The worst hotels I've stayed at have had vending machines... But the rooms are very good and the price is good. Pro Tip: This year was my first time using an annual pass. I got the AP rate for the room, saving me $100. Saw the rate only a week out, so keep looking for it. Although you can make the reservation without first having a season pass, to actually get that rate you need to present your AP at check in (really, just show them a pass that says UOAP).... But here's the tip: you don't have to get your pass processed at Guest Services. You can go to the Universal desk at the hotel and they will process it for you right there. Saves you a buttload of time. Get your season pass from the desk, go to front desk and check in, and you're done. The only catch - they can only give you a pass if you paid for the whole thing up front. If you are making monthly payments, you have to get your pass from Guest Services. Also excellent was that they have UOAP appreciation days going on, and one perk is that ALL levels of passes get 10% off dining. So this makes the bottom rung Seasonal Pass quite a great deal! Saved at least $40 eating in the park, because the discount applies at HHN. Thanks, Universal! TOURS For HHN, used Rush of Fear + Express Tool the six-house UTH tour on 9/27. The 6-house UTH Tour included: Nightengales The Depths House of 1000 Corpses Stranger Things Ghostbusters Yeti Learned something new: The 3-house UTH tour had unique houses, so taking both tours will let you see 9 of the 10 houses. The 3-house UTH Tour includes: Graveyard Games Universal Monsters Killer Klownz Us is not included on any UTH tour, unless one of the other 9 is unavailable. I was going to book the 3-house tour but didn't because I was sick... They did not allow Video recording or Audio recording (the audio prohibition was new). Pictures were also restricted. In originals it once again made no sense. "No pictures allowed in this first hallway" (where there is nothing to see). "Take as many pictures in here as you like" (viscera and gore abound). In IP houses pictures were highly restricted. Ghostbusters was insane. "You can take a picture in this room, but ONLY of this object, and ONLY framed in this manner". If you can get past the picture rules, I do recommend the tour. As usual, you do NOT need a daytime park ticket or an HHN ticket to take the tour. When the tour is done, they escort you to the Blue Man building and then out the door (no staying in the park after the tour, but there is an entrance gate near the Blue Man exit). Instead of a free lanyard, they give you a free pin at the UTH tour. Supposedly exclusive for UTH. FOOD AND BEVERAGE Weather was hot but not humid. Weather-wise, it was one of the best HHN vacations I've had. Event food was not great. The Hero sandwich at the Starcourt food court (aka the shacks near Monsters Cafe) was the standout. Small portion, though. When staying till the closing of the night, I recommend grabbing a sandwich at the Today Cafe to take to the hotel. They are one of the ONLY places in Universal that will give you something to go. Lines are not horrible, but the food comes sloooooowly. Tried all four specialty drinks and bought three of the four glasses (blinky cups) What sucks is that each bar serves only one of the four drinks. There are at least 8 bars, so you will find your favorite drink at only two bars across the event. Stupid idea, HHN... The cups are: Ghostbusters, Universal Monsters, Arcade, Killer Klowns (to be released 10/4) Drinks: The Saturn - Hayman’s London Dry Gin, Velvet Fallernum liqueur, passion fruit puree, sour mix. My favorite Vampire's Curse - Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, fruit punch, sour mix. Tasted like fruit punch and nothing more. Twilight Galaxy - Corazon Blanco Tequila, Mr. Boston Watermelon Schnapps, pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine. Even with all the sweet flavors, this was really NOT sweet. Very bitter and "Watermelon" was straight melon. Blood Pit - St. Augustine Vodka, Finest Call Blood Orange Sour, Bols Peach Schnapps, orange juice. Strong orange flavor. Not great, not bad. I wouldn't want to try to make any of these at home. Last year's Totally Rad Punch was memorable as all hell. Regarding the Freestyle cups - the "good all HHN season" cup is no more. You now need to buy a $9 recharge every day you want to use the cup. Now, I can tell you that if you recharge during the day in the park, your cup is good all the way through HHN that same night. So you could recharge at, say, 9AM on a Saturday and it would be good through 2AM Sunday. I don't know what happens if you recharge at HHN, though. My understanding is that the cup remains charged through at least part of the next day, during daytime park hours. Not sure. I also tested my park-charged Freestyle cup at Aventura - it did NOT work at their Freestyle machines this year (did last year). I was really disappointed to see that an UNCHARGED cup will not let you get ice water at a Freestyle machine. You can get ice, but no water. This makes no sense. One more thing, totally unrelated to HHN (but this is why my posts are TLDR, right?) Universal is no longer selling the Impossible Burger, and has switched to Beyond Beef. I'm not a vegan or vegetarian, but I really latched onto the Impossible burger, because it tastes so good - like a good burger with no gristle. Most theme park meat burgers are really not very good at all. I've tried Beyond Beef and yuck. Oh well. It was good while it lasted. IMPORTANCE OF EXPRESS PASS With an Express pass each night, was able to easily do all 10 houses, and repeat any that were short waits at end of evening. Each night I didn't even enter the event until around 8-9PM. In addition to all 10 houses was able to do AoV show three nights, grab a sit down meal, and spend quality time in the scarezones. Granted, the was early in the season. Even peak season, I think you should be able to do what I did armed with an Express Pass and getting to the park when it opens. I saved my HHN shopping for the daytime. MILES LOGGED Wed Sep 25 - 13 miles (Just HHN - went direct from airport) - 12 houses, AoV, Marathon of Mayhem Thu Sep 26 - 11 miles (included a bit of daytime visit to IOA for Hagrid) - 10 houses Fri Sep 27 - 14 miles (included 6 house UTH tour) - 12 houses (+6 in tour), AoV Sun Sep 29 - 13 miles - 12 houses, AoV EXPRESS MERGE POINTS The Express/standby merge points are very similar to last year. Some notes: Nightengales, Ghostbusters, HOTC, Stranger Things and Yeti had great merge points. There is a very short wait following the merge. 5 min max KKFOS, Depths, Graveyard Games and Us had the same so-so merge points - 10-15 min max Universal Monsters had a crappy merge point with a good 20 min wait post merge HHN APP GAME There is a section called The Arcade, where you can play a Stranger Things game or a Universal Monsters Candy Crush type game. For the life of me, I can't get the latter to work. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but the app locks up. You can get badges for scanning a QR code at a sign near each house.. But there's huge problems. First, the sign is a scavenger hunt - some are HARD to find (especially Graveyard Games). Some are right at the entrance - right where they tell you to turn off cell phones. Some are at the exits, but you can't stop or you will back everyone up. None of that really matters, because most are in total darkness, so you can't scan them unless someone shines their light on it. What I did was take a flash photo of each sign. But that sucks, since you need a second phone to scan the first. This game is just stupidity. And don't think you can scan the codes from home. Once you leave the park, that function turns off. You can scan them from your onsite hotel room, though. In fact NONE of the in app games work off site. The trivia is back, but for the original houses, they use general trivia unrelated to the house. For instance, for The Depths, they ask questions like what the deepest dive is, and when it took place, etc. Some of the Stranger Things questions were the same as last year's game. And UNLIKE last year, Terror Trivia locks once you leave the park. Last year I could continue to play from home. And I'm not a big fan of "get a badge for spending money" - you get a badge for buying Pizza Fries, the HHN Freestyle cup, and the UTH tour. MERCHANDISE Way too much merch to go into deeply, but here are some points of interest They do still have AP HHN shirt, AP HHN pin, and free AP HHN magnet, but you need to get those during daytime at the AP lounge (NOT available at Tribute store!) I think they should be at the Tribute store, because they are HHN, and can count toward your 10% off for an AMEX purchase over $75. Custom Ink shirts are once again in the Tribute store. The print is much higher quality. The ones from last year feel sticky and flimsy. These feel like they are part of the fabric. There are very few custom house designs available. I saw one for Yeti. Everything else is custom IP shirts. All stores are sold out of XL and XXL House of 1000 Corpses shirts. I assume they will reorder. I was told they sold out immediately after Sid's passing. No light up pins at all this year. Tribute store is HUGE this year. Individual rooms for KKFOS, Ghostbusters, ST, and general purpose room. They are selling 2019 tokens in the arcade. Be on the lookout for them. Williams of Hollywood store has almost nothing in the way of HHN memorabilia this year. Life size Chance statue is gone. (No, I didn't buy her, but a guy can dream...) SHOWS Loved AoV House of Fear in 2016. Did not like 2017. Really did not like 2018. LOVED this one. It's as if they listened to me, and gave me a HHN themed show in the spirit of House of Fear. The music was great, the story was great, the acts were great. They didn't haul someone up on stage to embarrass them. They didn't force the wave, or slow motion, or freaking Mr. Roboto. The only slow point for me was the aerial silk acrobat, and he wasn't bad at all. I'd still prefer Bill & Ted (and the survey they just sent me asked a couple of questions about B&T...) In my 4 visits, I watched this show 3 times. Also made a video of it. My trick was to turn screen brightness fully down. Marathon of Mayhem Oh. My. God. So much better than I ever expected. I really hope they bring this back time and again with new content, but the 80's theme was so well done. SCAREZONES My Scarezone anticipation list: 1) Zombieland 2) Vanity Ball 3) Anarch-Cade 4) Rob Zombie 5) Vikings Undead ....and after my attendance, almost a complete reversal: 1) Rob Zombie 2) Vikings Undead 3) Anarch-Cade 4) Zombieland 5) Vanity Ball Rob Zombie zone was just plain fun. I spent a long time there and loved every part of it. Favorite use of that area so far. In no way scary. Vikings surprised me with its brutality. The pumpkins were not missed; lanterns made sense for this zone. Wouldn't mind a Zombie Vikings house sometime. To me, Anarch-Cade was beautiful to look at. That laser ceiling was so good, and it was the best thing that area has seen in years. Reminded me of being in the arcade at the mall. Zombieland was cute but boring. The little "shows" were all of 2 minutes of nothingness. It was weird that "zombie kill of the week" was the exact same kill regardless of the character doing it. I chuckled at the Bill Murray zombie but didn't like anything else. It was really low energy as compared to last year. Shadybrook is still my favorite for this area. Lots here have loved Vanity Ball but even though I gave it a straight uninterrupted hour, it was blah. And this was after the UTH tour got me all excited with the backstory. The tour described it as two competing "body designers" who each have runway fashion shows. Their "designs" supposedly will talk to endlessly about what they had done and how much better their designer is than the other one, etc. Other than the runway shows, I got none of that. They had a little "plastic surgery" show, but only one thing happened over the course of an hour. Chucky was so much better... HOUSES My list based on anticipation 1) Depths of Fear 2) Yeti 3) Nightengales 4) Graveyard Games 5) Ghostbusters 6) Killer Klowns 7) Universal Monsters 8) House of 1000 Corpses 9) Stranger Things 10) Us ....and after my attendance, mostly flipped on its head (mostly) 1) Graveyard Games (BY A MILE!!) 2) Universal Monsters 3) House of 1000 Corpses 4) Yeti 5) Ghostbusters 6) Nightengales: Blood Pit 7) Depths of Fear 8) Stranger Things 9) Killer Klowns 10) Us Graveyard Games (A++) So far and away above the rest. My first night every house was leaving me with a "meh" taste and this was the last one I visited. I wasn't really expecting anything, but was in awe as I went through. It just got better and better. This house was utter perfection. Almost every scareactor has multiple scare points - and each one uses all of them. Over the course of my 4 nights, I went through this about 8 times. Each time I saw new things, and it was just perfect. Not a single bad run. I really wanted to hear the backstory on this one, but at the same time, I don't see how it could improve it for me. This house would be the ONLY reason for me to do another trip to Orlando, and a whole trip for one house won't do it for me. Universal Monsters (A+) This was done completely differently than the way Hollywood did it, but they did it equally great. So many great things to experience in this one. Felt like an original to me. Did not expect it to be this good at all. They ought to consider putting some of these monsters in a film some day I with they had turned the rain effect on more at the start. House of 1000 Corpses (A) I'm a big fan of the movie and was a big fan of Hollywood's take (which was also quite different, as the first few rooms back then were parts of the Murder Ride). Good house, but it very strictly stuck to the storyline; if it wasn't in the movie, you won't see it. Yeti (A) Some really big scenes and scares in this one, along with a surprisingly comedic scare outta nowhere. In my opinion, wasn't as good as any of last year's originals. This will be one I will have forgotten about in a few years. <Last year, houses 5-8 would have still been great. On this year's list, everything after Yeti is a big step down> Ghostbusters (B-) Yes, it's a beautiful house. Yes, I know it's not supposed to be scary. Yes, I loved the movie. The house was just....underwhelming. Nightengales: Blood Pit (B-) Like so many others said, the bird beaks were too distracting. UTH tour guide said that these Nightengales were devolved, being much older. Okay, but without someone telling me that, I'm just wondering what the heck I'm looking at. BEAUTIFUL FACADE. Unfortunately, we immediately go into the bowels of the Colosseum and stay there. As such, it's very monochromatic. I guess the original Nightengales: Blood Prey was also monochromatic with the trenches, but frankly the WWI house was more fun and the Nightengales were more scary. And, man, the water effects were practically turned off. I felt nothing rain-like anywhere. Depths of Fear (C+) This was at the top of my anticipation list. The goofy Mouthbrooders killed it for me. In Seeds of Extinction, a guy dressed as a plant was awesome, but here a guy dressed as a silver angler fish with giant translucent teeth is just goofy. I liked the idea and parts felt underwater, but the transition from above water outside to underwater inside was just not great. I think they needed for the facade to already be an underwater scene. Missed the dog entirely until the UTH tour. The house still looked cool and was somewhat fun, but as far as originals go, this is Giggles & Gore territory (and I don't remember much from Giggles and Gore). Disappointing. As I mentioned in another thread, Knotts' "The Depths" was such a better "We dug too deep!" mining themed house. Stranger Things (C) The casting was once again amazing. The flayer at the end was amazing. The rest was just OK. Killer Klowns (C-) Really surprised this came in so low. And unfortunately it's not because the rest was just that much better. I like the movie, really liked the zone, but the house just seemed like a 3D clown house without the glasses. Honestly, I don't think they could have done better. Klownzilla was a great puppet. The final room was huge but filled with too many static figures. Big letdown. I just think this one makes a much better zone than a house. Us (D-) They killed a perfectly good SoundStage for this. I saw the movie and liked the movie. The movie is hard enough to follow. As a house - forget about it. If you've never seen the movie, you will be lost. So let's put all that aside, what about the scares? Not many. So many actors stand there and do nothing. Most of the actors that DO something do it as part of an insanely long action. In any scene with Red or Adelaide, she just stands there. Forever. Then does something. Those are just no no's in houses. It stops the line. If you haven't seen the movie you exit the room wondering WTF. In 4 trips through the house, I saw most of the scares happen one time each. Sorry, this is just garbage as a house. CLOSING THOUGHTS Can't compare this yet to HHN Hollywood because I haven't gone. Only 4 really good houses out of 10. Last year was 8 out of 10. But last year's show was awful and this year had two standout shows. I don't think they topped 2018. As I mentioned, 2018 was so good, I spent $1000 to fly back a second time. This year was middle of the road as a whole. As so many have said: Not awful. Not great. Graveyard Games, though. Oooh, baby! Instant classic for me; I'll miss that one dearly.

Patrick has tweeted that the team have already started working on the 4th house for next year. It's understandable that Universal would selling the The Dark Night Of The Scarecrow mask, the masks of House of 1000 Corpses and Killer Klowns From Outer Space are from the company Trick Or Treat Studios so it would make sense that they would try and sell other masks from the company that they think would look cool and sell at the event but I don't think we'd see Dark Night at HHN, even though the concept of the movie is interesting, I could see maybe Universal using it as a influence for an original house or something if they'd go that route.
