Halloween Horror Nights 28 Speculation

There's a possibility this is a misdirect, but that's not really Mike's style.

So, instead.

I'll go ahead and confirm that Poltergeist is happening in 25. It's strictly the first movie, and doing some unexpected things.

Oh. For some reason I thought you meant August 25th as the announcement date.

Wait a sec does that mean Poltergeist will be our megahouse this year?

There isn't a "mega house" this year. You're getting ten houses instead.

Ah.

Actually, I'm pretty thankful for that. We've had four years in a row now of overly long houses, I'm ready for regular-sized houses to take over again.

Legacy’s doing Orlando’s PR for them, hahaha.

Either I misread earlier tweets, or they were deleted and replaced, but think I did read Mike say they were planning to announce something brand new today not announced yet. Guessing plans changed last minute. Oh well, not long to go now anyway. Can almost taste those twisted taters :D

A little off-topic, but what is our most anticipated house? Mine is most excellently Slaughter Sinema.

Meteor

Carnival Graveyard: Rust in Pieces - Seriously, the names this year are on point. Vast improvement. This was one of the houses I first started hearing about; specifically that it would be built almost entirely out of props and curtains. It should give it a very "open" and organic feeling that they have never done before. The big question will be, does it actually "work."

Surprise

Coach

Trick R Treat - There's a couple of fantastic set-pieces at the tale end of this, but I feel like other segments of the movie aren't really getting their due. It'll be a quality house. I'm just not as intrigued by it as what's above it.

Slaughter Sinema - Despite the fantastic name and fun concept, this suffers from humor. I am not, and never really will be, a fan of comedy houses. Even though they are decidedly striving to be not funny with this house, it's going to be funny. It's a personal taste thing.

Dead Exposure: Patient Zero - We've seen this all before. Audio selection should be fun though, especially in the first scene.

Stranger Things - This, in theory, should be higher. It's not for a reason. I've seen a lot of it and... creative differences.

Poison

At the moment I'd say Carnival Graveyard, not from the official promo but from the descriptions it has been getting from Legacy and the designer on Twitter. Sounds like something next-level for HHN.

The original houses this year have me concerned.  I have never been a fan of “funny houses” (excluding ash vs evil dead).  So I am really not that excited about slaughter sinema.  Cult of the beast baby and Amazon canibals from planet hell sounds wayyy to cheesey.

Carnival Graveyard seems very promising

I really really hope that Oz is not a house. I never liked Houses/scarezones based on fairytales (Asylume in wonderland scary-tales etc.) sooo I hope the map is wrong but so far it’s been 100% accurate to date.

I know it’s hard to follow up such an awesome year for original houses like last year was... anyway just my two cents.

"Cheese" has an important place in horror history. Over the top gore bordering on the ridiculous were genre changers. Schlock horror can surprise with scares and gave rise to the "torture porn" that is so well loved today.

Fairytales are the original horror stories. The "happily ever after" that Disney created does not exist in the original stories. Baum's Oz has always contained imagery that is downright terrifying.

Someone mentioned Return to Oz and wonder if some of the imagery could be seen in an Oz style house, the answer is yes. While direct copies from the film couldn't be seen, the characters themselves could be used. The Wheelers, Tik Tok, Mombi, Princess Langwidere, Tip... The steampunk stylings needed for The Wheelers has already had groundwork lain.  PoW was very steampunk. A hall of screaming heads for Princess Langwidere. Those thirty heads weren't a Disney invention. They are Baum's. There were 14 Oz novels by Baum. There's plenty of source material to mine.

People keep assuming it's Oz though...

Assumptions made...always.

I suppose one should temper their Oz hopes while leaning towards Oz. Which probably makes no sense, but trying to make sense is beyond my capabilities at the moment.

Also, since you decided to confirm...

I stated previously that sometimes I can still speculate and still be right. Those who followed the guess the codename game may understand what I meant now.

Welp, I obviously have nothing concrete to go on but the Map.  I am not cleaver enough to decipher clues. So I guess I’ll just have to play the waiting game with everyone else and secretly hope that OZ is not a house.

The mid-summer scream HHN panel gave some great incite on some of the big name IP houses.   So I am super excited about those and who knows slaughter Sinema could end up surprising me.

Like I said before, last years original houses are a tough act to follow.

I'm excited to see Meteor so high on your list, if it is what I think it is, it's the house I had the most reservations about when I first heard about it. I'm also disappointed to see Poison so low, again if it's the house I think it is I was looking forward to it. I suppose we'll see.

I wouldn't assume your own opinion on a house based on only the projected opinion of another's.

Different strokes for different folks.
