Rikku
We so frequently are discussing best and worst houses of the years however was just thinking of houses that I liked that may not be as popularly liked. Certainly not saying they have to be your favorites of all time but houses you enjoyed but popular opinion may not have been as high. Some houses from recent memory for me include: Urban Legends: La Llorona Asylum in Wonderland 3D Dracula Untold From Dusk Till Dawn
ForeverEvil1
Would be interested in seeing a reverse thread of this. Dracula Untold - People put way too much focus on the "promotional maze" aspect before even going in. The Purge - Was one of the more fun mazes at 25, which IMO is sort of overrated house-wise. TWD 2015 - Always got good scares here, only bad set piece was the tubs. Exorcist - Don't get entirely what was wrong with this and why Hollywood's is portrayed like this god-like maze when it seems it have the same issues they're complaining about this year. Ash Vs Evil Dead - The opinion has curved so much on Blumhouse I can't list it here. But apparently this maze is bad...somehow. I don't know, I think people have too much expectations of 20 episodes in 10-12 rooms. Also apparently one-liners don't fit Evil Dead, which is a huh? Thought it was fun and a great adaptation. At least it was interesting, unlike the Shining.

Some houses from recent memory for me include: Urban Legends: La Llorona Asylum in Wonderland 3D Dracula Untold From Dusk Till Dawn I agree with you 100% on Asylum. 2015 was the first year that I went more than once and at different times, once towards the beginning of the run and then on the last day. There was one room with the floating heads, after passing the queen of hearts, (my memory of it may be a bit fuzzy) and it felt like the actors were creepily whispering right into my ear. I don't remember what they were saying but it's one of my most memorable and favorite moments at the event since 2010. It was the only house we repeated that night and both the person I was with and myself agreed that Asylum was our favorite house. That year was great overall but Asylum was a real standout. It was shocking to see that most people didn't care for it, but to each their own.
StupidStupidDan
I think my main ones that people crap on, but I really liked are Asylum in Wonderland, Lunatic's Asylum, and Ash Vs Evil Dead. Granted, I'm a big Ash fan, so that house really caters to me, and I have a thing for 3D houses and that crazy vortex tunnel.
AbeLinkedIn
I liked Ash Vs. too because it served as this year's comedy house and most of the hate I've seen is from people who might not be used to the show. At least that's my takeaway from it. Also Shining is a difficult concept to turn into a house and they got all of the iconic scenes integrated which is all I asked for. One from the past that was not well received but I loved was Run Blood Sweat and Fears. It was the weakest of HHN 25 in terms of originals, but because they didn't implement the theme well into the actual house. The queue was fantastic but the execution inside felt different.
killswitch22
Universal house of horrors is the big one for me. A lot of people thought it was boring and unoriginal. I really liked the seeing the classic monsters in their original form. And I though the black and white effects were done incredibly well.
zombieman
I guess maybe Exorcist, because people were very polarized - loved it or hated it. I loved it. To answer the reverse question: Catacombs: Black Death Rising (2010) and Dead Exposure (2008). These were fan favorites, but I was underwhelmed by both. Didn't hate them; I just didn't see what the big deal was.

Now, given that the top five were masterpieces IMO (yes I liked Creatures) that’s not saying much. But yeah I thought it was pretty overrated. Im with you on this bc Im a classics purist. It was also a last minute replacement for something else that fell through if I remember correctly. Jediwhit82
I didn't know Ash vs Evil dead was bad, but since apparently people think it was I have to say that they are wrong. Eivl Dead was great.

Eivl Dead was great. theme + atmosphere wise great, just shitty scares, subpar costumes, and way too many breakups from action 3 hours ago, themazethinker said: the saw maze in 2017 i honestly liked, captured the feel of the movie well. I actually really agree, I think the people who don't like saw wouldn't like the house
littlegreenghouls
Reflections of fear. Blood Ruins. American werewolf in London (2015) There was any need to redo a maze that we legit just had about 2 years prior. Cabin in the woods. - I feel like it was over hyped and the actors rested upon the namesake of the house. I don't recall getting scared in this house. That, along with IT (Interstellar Terror - not the clown with the red balloon) were two of my faves that didn't get a lot of love from many

Hallow was pure Halloween porn, and IT was just a very scary concept (it was based off Event Horizon, I know).
