UPDATE from Legacy on the forums:

- Hive is a very atmospheric house, and will be very creepy

- Angels vs Demons is actually very atmospheric, contrary to past info

- The music in Angels vs Demons sells it even further(basically makes it a better house than it already is)

- Hive is going to be a very scary house, contrary to the theory it was a "rush job"

- Scareactors are going to be a HUGE influence in every house, apparently sets/mazes as a whole are amazing but will suck with bad acting(pretty normal it's just it seems to be even more important this year)

So yeah it sounds like there are 0 duds this year and every house will deliver amazing quality

On the bright side there is more to look forward to in the next few weeks. It will all get announced. I'm going regardless and plan on having a great time.

Would like Ike to see marketing that connects more with fans, but personally I think the marketing has nothing to do with the quality of the event. I will occupy myself further by finishing season 2 of Ash vs Evil Dead and other movies.

Angels vs. Demons sounds very inspired by Paradise Lost, which is interesting, as I remember reading Legacy's idea for a literature-themed event, which included a Paradise Lost scare zone. It sounded great.

"Paradise Lost - The Mel's Entrance to Central Park features the statue of an angel, weilding a flaming sword overhead. As you enter the park (on both sides), you must walk around the ridges of a crater. The crackle of flames are heard, with an occassional boom as another angel falls. The park is lit with flickering red's and oranges. The scareactors wear distressed, and ornate, armor. Wounds are seen on their arms and slightly deformed faces (not "demonic" just different). Most scareactors have bloody nubs where wings use to be (think the movie Dogma), though a couple have half a wing- hanging limply behind them. Some angels carry swords."

If it makes you feel better I'm legitimately terrified of chainsaws (it's a long story) so I've avoided haunts like the plague. Last year was the first year I attended and I had so much fun that despite the shitshow this morning, I cannot wait for this year!! I found that I loved the funnier/lighter houses (AHS & Krampus were my favorites) and hated the very first haunted house I've ever been in (The Exorcist).

So prepare to potentially dislike the first house you go in no matter how much you're looking forward to it (The Exorcist is one of my all time favorite movies so I thought I'd love it but NOPE). If that scenario does happen try to enjoy the scare zones (Vamp '55-a lighter one-was my favorite to hang around in), go on some rides to calm down then try a funnier house next. We did Krampus after The Exorcist, and even though we were timed to pretty much all the scares, it was such a fun house that we loved it!!

Another great way of getting used to the scareactors is Scareactor Dining. It was such an easygoing atmosphere, that I wasn't even afraid of the chainsaw geisha when she got to our table (it probably helped that she wasn't revving it lol) and we had a terrific interaction with her-even though she couldn't talk!

I hope you have a great time and if you need people to do any of the houses with I'm local so I'll be there!!

While I appear to have a few bars...

I'm in the mountains so forgive any oddities with this post.

Let down doesn't cover my feelings regarding the recent countdown. It simply confirmed my suspicions that marketing is inept.

You don't create a page people need to join for a chance to win (the initial premise listed by sacrificing our souls was to win prizes and be the first to see content), create a countdown, then have the count down "reveal" another page people need to submit info to daily so that they can win the previously mentioned prizes.

They've created clickbait. The disappointment and frustration exhibited by many is not unwarranted.

But...

I wasn't surprised. I had no hopes for any info. I guess my cynicism regarding the recent marketing spared me the frustration.

Honestly, try your best not to look scared or they will go after you. I agree with DraculaTeeth that your first house is probably going to be the worst because you don't know what to expect, but just get yourself a twisted tator and all will be good. My very first house ever was Halloween during 24 because I figured since I was familiar with it, it wouldn't be as scary. I'm pretty sure the people behind us thought I was part of the house because of how loud I was screaming. Fortunately, there was no one in front of us. Diagon Alley is another good spot to get your nerves down.

I've also found that trying to (politely) banter with the scareactors makes it more fun. There's a good chance they'll still go after you or partner with another scareactor to get you, but at least you'll have a laugh about it. Like last year I went and got a fishy green ale from Diagon Alley and started to walk through fisherman's wharf when one of the scareactors approached me and got in my face. I said hi and he pointed at my drink and I went "oh crap is this inappropriate to drink here?" And I could tell the scareactor laughed and then shortly after I had a hook inches from my throats from a scareactor behind me.

But real talk, you'll be fine and you'll have a blast! Going by yourself is amazing because you get to do what you want and you'll notice more things. Have fun, man!

^ This is all really good information and you're going to have a blast. My first year was to impress a girl (I had an interest for a long time but never had the nerves to go) and I ended up loving the event.

I'd like to add a counterpoint to the first house comment. In my opinion there we're two points my first night where I was the most uneasy:

1. Standing outside the front gates

and

2. In line for my first house.

At both those moments there was an overwhelming since of awe.

You may even walk out of your first house with a mix of excitement and "huh, that was it?" - not because its bad but if you're like me, an overactive imagination will convince yourself that you're about to experience terror beyond comprehension.

What I would give to experience this event blind again. Honestly I wish my first time had been solo. HHN does a wonderful job of world building and when things go right the end result is fantastic (this is why this forum harps on cohesion). Going by yourself will really let you be immursed in realm of vampires, monsters, rogue supersoldiers - all sorts of badass stuff. If I'm able to go this year I might specifically go one night by myself.

Do what houses you want to do first but feel free to take a dip out of your gameplan for a short line. Your favorite houses will probably be different than your expectations. Watching source material beforehand will help you enjoy details but I had never seen Halloween before I did it and its one of the best houses I've ever done.

Oh and the Irish Bar in NY (we call in the Winchester) is a great place to grab a pint and wait for it to all blow over if you find yourself in need of a break

Seriously I hope not. That will kill off any affinity I had for the event.

My thoughts exactly when I read that!  If I saw the Cullens in there, that would be the end all.

Re: solo theme parking--it's almost like going to the park for the first time again when you start going solo. It's a whole new and liberating experience. But I would definitely recommend meeting up with people for your first time. And don't be like me and hang on for dear life while staring at the floor for your first ever house (which was AWIL and I didn't go back in....regrets!).

My biggest aid in ridding me of

the anxiety over houses and zones was knowing half of the scareactors. But I think knowing some guests you could team up with would help, too.

I'll be here most nights, and I'll have our stuffed cat George with me--he's a holdover from when Catacombs was a thing and people brought their own 'cats and combs' as a joke. So if you see us, say hello :)

Transition from moaning to advertising for people to protect me from HHN? Totally intentional and necessary haha.

This is is the first time I've gone to the event. I waited to do it until my 30th birthday (January btw). And was supposed to go with a great friend.

Unfortunately she needed urgent minor back surgery, and now can't fly. So I'm going on my own to Florida for two weeks. Totally fine with that apart from HHN. So would appreciate people to help me through!

As a married man with two kids I envy you.... I'd kill for 2 weeks on another country by myself!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto from a married woman with 3 kids!!

Husband and I were discussing the possibility of leaving the kids behind to go to HHN! One can dream but the kids doubt have it. We'd have to lie and say we were going to a conference.

LOL we leave the kids with the grandparents every year, but they are young. My daughter is 4 and tells us that she wont go until she's 25 and our son is 4 months. So we have no problem leaving the kids. Now if I can just trick the wife into staying home Id be set. HHN at night and Id get so much sleep!

The whole thing sounds like the southern rail crap going on in the UK atm.

Southern rail is a private company responsible for running trains in the south of England. Most of these routes are commuter routes in and out of London.

For the last 2 years there have been lots of strikes, distruption, and severely bad customer service.

Yet people still use them regardless. Either because of some sense of loyalty, or because they are the only way to commute for them (irrespective of other routes available).

Moral of of the story is this. Complain all you want. Bitch and moan about what you don't like. If you keep on going back to it nothing with change and indeed will probably get worse. Once they have your money they really couldn't care less. Business 101 I'm afraid.

Anyway. If anyone wants to meet up for twisted taters, a beer/blinky cup concoction, a house or two on Saturday 30 September or Sunday 1 October let me know. As I've said before I'm now travelling on my own so open to making new friends on my travels :D

We will be there 30 September and 1 October.   We will find you, Matt.  I'd love to through a couple houses with you.. although, I am hoping you get express because we won't do it without express unless the wait is 30 mins or less.

Also, we believe the loaded fries are WAY better than twisted taters.  I'm not talking about gravy on the fries.. I'm talking loaded like a loaded baked potato - cheese, bacon, green onions and a little sour cream.  A-Mazing.  Also, I believe they do have a chili option for the loaded fries.  So, you may want to revise your eating plans.

This is absolutely true too-if I had the chance to wait outside the gates it totally would have overwhelmed me & I definitely would have psyched myself out. The first time I went we did Scareactor Dining, so we were escorted in before the event started. Then once we finished I do remember looking down the street towards the entrance to see throngs of people near AHS, so we just walked straight ahead to Exorcist instead. There were only 2 people in front of us, and a family of 4 behind us. The lady up front was super cheerful & smiley, I was so excited!

Basically I walked in to The Exorcist like this...10744td.jpg

A+ gif usage. I don't know about you, but that house was the only one that gave me a sense of impending doom. I had to go buy myself a churro afterwards.

Exorcist gave me chills everytime. Love having that feeling back. That movie truly freaks me out

See, Exorcist did nothing for me. I didn't find it scary at all and never felt the doom, chills, or fear that a lot of other people did. It was in my bottom three.

Now Tomb of the Ancients is a whole different story. That house terrifies me to this day just thinking about it! I had never let out an audible scream at the event, even when I was so scared going into my very first house during 24. However when those walls dropped causing the LOUD band and caused the floor to shake I screamed so loud! The fact that the effect happened so close to the start of the house made me a total wreck the whole way thru.  It was one house that I made a point to go thru at least once a night (sometimes more than once) because I loved the way it made me feel. First house I had been into since 24 and the walking dead forest scene that I felt like that. It didn't help that it was SO dark and claustrophobic in there too. Fun fact, A&D had to fight for a higher budget to put a ceiling throughout the entire maze just to make it feel even more claustrophobic. Ceilings in mazes are pretty rare (especially in the sprung tents) because of the added cost to run water suppression systems required by law. However, after going thru the house without a ceiling, they knew they had to fight for it because it would add so much to the house. I'm sure most guests didn't even notice the ceiling, but it added to the claustrophobic feeling which was the whole point of the house. A&D had never done a house that played so much on that fear and they wanted to see if they could pull it off. To me, they did, and they did it perfectly!

I did feel impending doom right after we passed the house facade and got into the house itself! Then once we were in it was like a dogpile of one awful thing after another! The sawdust/vomit smell was making me dry heave, I somehow managed to get the vomit effect sprayed onto my face & into my mouth, I got stuck in one of the hallways cause I couldn't see and a security guard had to come with a flashlight, etc., etc., etc. I don't know if being raised Catholic and being around a family that hates that movie has anything to do with it but I'm hoping it doesn't cause if the Angels vs. Demons house is confirmed I wanna see it.

Churros sound really good though-I'm definitely gonna have to check out more of the food this year.
