So just got done auditioning...unfortunately no selection again this year!! But on the audition slip it had 9 houses and 7 scarezone codenames??? So im assuming 2 roaming hoardes as usual as well?

Uh are you sure you should have let that slip by the way? Info is appreciated though.

Let's not get into an argument about one's opinion of the event.  Some will like it, some won't.   We love to see everyone's views, good or bad.

But....but.... I thought MY opinion was the best.

And everyone else's opinion is just wrong.  :D

So if the leaked/speculated list is true then the 7 scarezones are:

(1) Front zone IP mashup

(2) The Purge

(3) Trick R Treat

(4) 50's Sci Fi

(5) Day of the Dead

(6) Horde #1(probably a Chainsaw Horde)

(7) Horde #2

and the 9 houses are:

(1) American Horror Story

(2) The Shining

(3) Ash vs Evil Dead

(4) Jigsaw

(5) Blumhouse Mashup

(6) Bayou of Blood

(7) Harvest of the Souls *Icon House*

(8) Urban Legends: Black Eyed Children

(9) Angels vs Demons(may be Cathedral in Hell)

*sorry for listing everything just wanted to update the list to the current speculation*

I know in 2010 they had a zone called "Esqueleto Muerte." Is the "Day of the Dead" zone supposed to be any different, aside from being in SF instead of Plaza?

Very excited about 50s Sci Fi and Trick R Treat (I haven't seen that movie but I desperately need to--Nostalgia Critic called it "Halloween porn.") Plus it inspired the Skoolhouse.

Does anyone know where I could watch Trick R Treat? Is it on Netflix or something? I've actually never seen it and I feel like I need to watch it before I go this year, and just in general as a horror fan. And speaking of hordes, I would LOVE to see a scarecrow horde near the dust bowl house. The scarecrows last year were really fun.

No one has a clue honestly.

I imagine the inspiration is coming from Singapore's March Of The Dead.

As far as I know the zones name will be Festival of the Dead

I haven't been on this site very long but this is bizarre. Is this really what it's like on here every year? This is supposedly a thread speculating about what will appear at the event and we are so late in the process that there are posters who actually know because they are either insiders or who have auditioned and no one will say definitively what the line up is and other posters are admonishing them not to? We've been looking at that 'official' map that gets changed every two weeks and reading meaningless teaser tweets for months and we aren't allowed to hear what the last house will be for some reason? Why? Universal clearly doesn't care who knows since they're apparently showing the names to every unemployed 19 year old in Florida and California who applies for a temp job and, from what I've gathered, half of the mazes every year are just disappointing retreads anyway so what is the big deal? I thought we knew most of them already so why can't we hear the last few?  Ridiculous.

'Trick 'r Treat' rules! Ever since it first got its direct to DVD release in 2009 (I remember it taking me three full days, a lot of searching, and a lot of luck to find a store that wasn't sold out of it), it's been traditional Halloween viewing for me. Even if they don't make anything out of it this year (And if they do, I'll spontaneously break out into a Happy Dance wherever I'm at when I read the official confirmation of it), it's an awesome movie that you need to see.

I think it's on Netflix, but I could be mistaken. If not, most stores that sell DVDs have it for a very reasonable price, or you could buy a used copy on Amazon (Trust me, it's worth the investment).

The audition forms don't have the names of the houses and zones. They have the Entertainment code names, which are also different from the A&D code names. So only the casting directors know what the houses actually are.

Also, not to be rude, but scareactors aren't 'unemployed 19-year-olds', they're people from all walks of life who sometimes even work 'normal' day jobs. :)

Exactly.

Entertainment codenames usually have similarities to one another. House codenames in the past have included watermelon, melon, strawberry, sweet tea, etc...

How would a severe weather House work? My only thought is maybe elemental monsters/ demons that each embody some kind of severe weather.

Thanks for embracing the ideas and providing critiques! I am thinking a "dust storm" set in the Kansas plains, another room will have a hurricane come through, another has a tornado, another volcao, another etc etc. Probably logistically a nightmare to build, but hey it's an idea :) Or, if they can't do the effects, simulate it with screens and have the set pieces react appropriately.

We've got a new Tweet for Ifrit that I think is interesting.

"For San Fran, and what it Features Look no further than its Creatures"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creature_Features#KTVU-Channel_2_.28San_Francisco.29

It looks like what we thought was a simple 1950's Sci-Fi could be classic Universal Horror movies from the 1930s and 1940s, like Dracula, Frankenstein and others. Plus several old films like King Kong, Son of Kong, and the original Mighty Joe Young. They also aired all the movies produced and distributed by American International Pictures. This included all the Roger Corman B-movies of the 1950s and 1960s like The Raven, and The Terror, plus most of the Japanese "monster movies" produced by Toho Studios, and Daiei Motion Picture Company (famous for their Godzilla and Gamera movies).

They also broadcast all the best British horror films by Hammer Film Productions, like The Curse of Frankenstein, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, The Phantom of the Opera, The Curse of the Werewolf, and The Hound of the Baskervilles. Later, during the 1970s, Amicus Productions, and Tigon British Film Productions produced such films as Dr. Terror's House of Horrors, and The House That Dripped Blood, which became popular.

Creature Features also aired many "nuclear monster" and "space alien" science fiction movies. Created in the 1950s these movies were based on the idea of giant mutant monsters or aliens from outer space terrorizing Earth. These included Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, The Amazing Colossal Man, Them!, Tarantula, The Thing from Another World, It Came from Outer Space, The War of the Worlds, Forbidden Planet.

I'm sorry.. but this made me giggle.  If Uni actually came up with this "idea" and put it out there just like you did, you'd say, "OH MY GOD!  Dumbest idea ever! How the hell could they logistically even make that work!?  This is going to suck!"   LOL

People are aggravated even with the announcement timer because it's not until roughly only 1 month before the event and by then it doesn't leave much time to discuss or watch the material.

Yeah... a countdown clock SLOWLY releasing material. How slow? How does it even work? So far, it seems like a pointless counter that leads to nothing.

I'm not sure if this year is going to suck, but the leadup has been the worst I've seen since I started attending.

I kinda just want to touch on these points for a second, because I really think everyone needs to calm down. It really wasn't until 2012 that the "new IP era" started the trend of constantly getting updated every few weeks with announcements. A lot of people that started going around that time really don't realize that. For example in 2009 and 2011 we got the major IP's announced first around June. Saw, Chucky, Wolfman in 2009 and The Thing remake in 2011. We basically got our major IP's announced already as well. After that there were no bi-weekly announcements, nothing from twitter. Wasn't really a thing then, no construction photos etc. We got a teaser site, which now we pretty much have a bit of teaser site as well. In 2010 all we had for months was a teaser website because there were no IP's to announce. Then yeah 2009 had little story articles you could find on the site and 2011 had these games. This fueled speculation and to help connect the dots with what was being rumored, while also immersing us into a bit of a story. Which it's those backstories and whatnot that I really miss. But we still didn't get any actual announcements. For those 3 years it literally wasn't until one night in August that everything would be revealed all at once: icon, houses, zones, shows, theme etc. And that night wasn't announced until the week of. It was like opening your gifts on christmas morning being bombarded with all this awesome info. So at least now we have a date to look forward to ahead of time and it gives me hope that when we do get all the info it will be awesome and worth the wait. I just think people that have become fans more recently have become a bit spoiled with a constant flow of announcements and whatnot the last few years.

So you think I'm being spoiled by knowing a bit in advance what I'm spending thousands of dollars on? The whole "they used to announce everything in August and it was so awesome" argument is getting pretty tiresome to me. If they want my money next year, they'll need to start announcing stuff earlier than they are this year. I'm not booking a whole trip from across the country to not know what I'll be seeing. I also don't think it's too cool for them to keep saying soon, soon, and then give us nothing for months. That to me is a total turn off this year.

I mean, technically we do have everything. I'm pretty confident that leaked list is correct at this point though we'll probably see this week.

I'm just saying if you hate it now, you would have hated it back then and probably would have stopped attending if you need to know everything beforehand. Might be tiresome, but it's the truth. We legitimately didn't know what we were getting until August. Just speculation and rumors like what we have now. "A house about a cemetery and blue light","A house in the middle of a war zone with a tank". Just the general concepts. So I don't mean spoiled in a bad way, just that you're used to getting all this info before hand and that's how you're used to planning your trip. Back then you'd plan your trip either because you had gone before and knew you'd have a good time or had heard such good things you were determined to check it out.

If it is correct, then it's even more ridiculous in my opinion. If they know they can't keep their information secret then why not just announce the stuff officially? I just don't see the actual harm in announcing stuff weekly or biweekly going up to the event. This announce mostly everything in August is just awful. I don't think I've seen a marketing campaign rest on its laurels quite as much as Universal has done this HHN run.

I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a shake up next year in this regard. This is the loudest people have been annoyed by it.
