Expect a very slow update year for us since the "official" social media team now has full control of the Twitter.

Oh I know and it sucks but Mike did say he'll keep us updated time to time..

We should be hearing the dates real soon for 27.

Murdy's second maze has the code name Charles.

He has confirmed all the Hollywood mazes will be IPs again this year, but also that there are "no direct repeats".

Last year all IPs used in Orlando were also in Hollywood, therefore there is a good chance of shared IPs this year.

It might be a bit of a stretch, but bare with me on this...

I'm thinking that Charles might be a reference to Annabelle/The Conjuring.

IIRC, the murders that caused the Annabelle doll to get possessed were loosely based off of Charles Mason and his followers.

With an Annabelle sequel, and a year removed from The Conjuring 2, now's a good time to have that particular IP in both parks.

Charles was Scarlett O'Hara's first husband in Gone with the Wind.  Scarlett is a redish color and Wind is the only noun in the movie title.  Red Wind is a casino in Washington State.  Casinos have slot machines.  There's an online slot machine called Hell Raiser.  We're getting a Hellraiser house!

The clues never make sense until you look at them in hindsight...and then they are so tangentially related that it's a joke.  It's even worse if it's a house you particularly want...as you can link any clue to any movie if you try hard enough:

Killer Klowns from Outer Space was directed by the Choido Brothers.  There are three brothers.  The third letter of the alphabet is "C".  Two of the brothers wrote the script.  Only one of those two played a clown in the movie.  Charles.  We're getting a KKfOS house!!!!

:)

The cardinal rule of John Murdy clues is that you can make basic guesses for them but should neve put an ounce of confidence in the answer. I'd argue you get better info for Murdy talking technical aspects of certain mazes than clues about the fancy code names.

Indeed. From just such a Q&A he gave on Twitter we now know that Charles contains an "iconic scene" that was very hard for him to realize in a maze. He says the code name refers to the property but is "personal". He also said about that one that he was surprised they got the property. Hmmmm.

He also said Lemonade refers to something the filmmaker of the property said to him about the film. That at least reveals the property for the first maze IS a film, rather than a TV series like AHS.

I've seen some mention of "Charles" being The Shining. Now that's a real long-shot in my opinion, but it would fit with him being surprised they got the property.

I think the famous elevator gushing blood scene would fit with an iconic scene that would be difficult to duplicate.

This was my first thought when reading Murdy's clue stating he was having trouble with an iconic scene. He specifically stated he's trying to figure out a creative solution to a technical problem. My mind immediately went to the elevator scene from The Shining.

The first Orlando codename, confirmed via Mike Aiello's Twitter...is Checkmate.

Based on the track records of what code names are revealed for Orlando, this is I presume an original.

Or...AHS's codename last year was "King" and Checkmate (using Wikipedia): game position in chess in which a player's king is in check (threatened with capture) and there is no way to remove the threat.

Perhaps Orlando has confirmed they've checkmated (and REcaptured) AHS.

Or Charles and Checkmate are the same property. In the Q&A Murdy was asked if he would make a maze based on a Stephen King book or film. He said he would absolutely if he were allowed to - an open ended answer. He did not say " we can't we're not allowed to". The next question should have been "are you allowed to this year?"

King famously will not give the rights to his books for haunts. But what about the rights to films based on those books? How much control does he have over the films? Particularly how much control would he have over film rights he sold at the beginning of his career before he became the power he is today? The Shining was shot by Stanley Kubrick for Warner Brothers and King has said many times he was not happy with the film. He had his "own" version made for television many years later. The rights would be controlled, I believe by the Kubrick estate and Warners. And they just succeeded in a difficult negotiation with Warners last year for The Exorcist - a property they had pursued for years and years. The contract allowed the maze in three separate HHN events last year. So Warners has now gotten into a comfortable place with Universal for HHN rights - could they have circumvented Stephen King entirely and got The Shining?

As someone pointed out Murdy said he was surprised they are even doing Charles  which would point to a property long thought impossible to acquire, and the elevator scene indeed fits quite well with what he had been saying as well. So why Charles?

Charles is the name of the future King.

Odds are if they have gotten The Shining it will be a shared IP, how could they not use it wherever they can? I'd expect it in Hollywood, Orlando and Osaka like with The Exorcist.

So could Checkmate be for The Shining as well?

Checkmate is what you say when you finally take the King.

All of this is, of course, mere speculation.

I want to believe because this is more clever than mine,

We also can't forget another famous King novel which has a movie coming out Sept 8th...It! We know Universal loves their clowns and Pennywise would be awesome to see brought to life in person. Plus, we can't ignore the release date of the film. They love to do their cross promotions and with the film coming out a week before the rumored opening night date, it makes perfect since.

They could also include Carrie if they put Carrie, The Shining, and It as one maze like they did with AHS.

Call me crazy, call me psycho, but Murdy may be using an awful pun with Writer's Block and we've all taken the bait.

If I were a clever man I would figure this out.

Also, not to create bad hype, but Orlando twitter is throwing the "soon" word around. Dates within a few days perhaps? Of course, with Aiello not having Twitter, who knows?

A King compilation house would be siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick..... can you imagine the elevator from the Shinning, the kid at the window from Salems Lot, a fuggin Cujo puppet the size of the AWIL puppets, the fog scene from Silver Bullet, the sewer scene from IT, the scissor scene from Dead Zone.... the list would be endless. We can dream...

I think the prom scene from Carrie would fit if Carrie begins the compilation. Unless there are other scenes from Carrie that fits.

I wish my brain would cooperate better.

I know this. I do, but can't pinpoint it.

All my brain keeps coming back to is: "You wouldn't get writer's block while using the word processor of the gods!"

But that's wrong. That's my King obsession. We know it makes me insane. Less apt to find the answer. It makes me cuckoo and my answers tend to be for the birds.

On the other hand, M&N could equal Minnesota. King+Minnesota Google search produces an interesting result. The Shining performed by an opera company.
