Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood - Event Discussion

Recommended Posts

Yesterday and today were both fucked up guest-wise (among other things, but that's a different story).

Just a question, do any of you as guests witnessing wrong shit that people do ever say anything to them? 'Cause you should. If anything, follow them to a security guard and let the security guard know the situation or something.

As a scareactor, it's really hard for me to distinguish people, especially mid-set when I'm completely zoned out and just repeating myself and not focusing on the people. When something happens, the person's already gone and I couldn't point them out if I wanted to. It's actually hard for me to distinguish people when I'm focused right on them, might just be my problem, though. And location.

I do, I actually will hide my badge/name tag whatever when I'm on break or lunch or in the park as a guest. Every haunt I've ever worked I've patrolled even if it's not my "job" to do that, I'll spend every hour I'm off/on break (and also when I'm in the park as a guest) actually walking the park, checking on talent, asking if everyone is okay or needs anything, and if I see A-holes I'll follow them out of a maze and find security quick, or I'll take it upon myself to take care if the problem.

Ill vouch and say ditto to terrible guests this weekend, I don't know how many I got booted from the park, but I know I contacted security six times and took matters into my own hands four or five times Friday night, and three or four times last night. I'm there for you guys, I wish I could be a maze/zone lead if I didn't love makeup so much I would, but I'm looking out because I remember being an SA and not having anyone to help I'm bad guest situations until it was too late. If you see a girl come through your maze alone/almost alone (I trail behind groups as best I can), and give you a thumbs up, give one back if you're okay, if you're not, TELL ME!

Why aren't you a manager and damn near running the place?!

Mellie deserves her own appreciation thread and award.

Haha! Thank you thank you but no, I've just been working in haunts as an SA, and then a makeup artist for 13 years, so I GET the frustration of jerk off guests. As for being a lead of some kind at universal, unfortunately, I've got tattoos so I can't have that kind of title per universal policies.

BUT, that aside, I'm here for all you SAs, like I said, if a girl with tattoos is alone and doesn't spook at your scare attempts but gives a thumbs up, give one back or pull me aside, it's the least I can do!

Finally saw videos of Orlando's Dracula and TWD.

Dracula has way better sets, but overall, it doesn't look as scary.

TWD looks like its miles better than ours. It has everything I would've expected from a season 4 version of the maze, not just 2 or 3 measly new scenes. Plus some good scares and LOTS and I mean LOTS of scare actors.

So if the videos are any indication -- Hwood vs. Orl:

AWIL = Orl all the way. 2+ points

Hween = Hwood all the way 2+ points

FDTD = Toss up. 0 points

Drac = Orl sets, Hwood scares. 1/2 points to each

TWD = Orl all the way 2+ points

AVP = Hwood all the way (although Orl puppets) 1 3/4 points to Hwood. 1/4 point to Orl.

Hwood total: 4.25 points

Orl total: 4 .75 points

Again, this is just from what I've seen in VIDEOS.

I'd say the coasts are pretty even this year in terms of IPs past & present being used this year. But Orl's better AWIL and Alien puppets gives them the edge!

What do their alien puppets look like? Could you link to a video?

Didn't we used to have one? Maybe that was back in The Vault days but I could have sworn we had a "HHN your way/creations/etc" type thread. Someone start one, I'm sure there's several on the forum who'd join in.

There was a contest on here but I swear I remember there was a creation thread separate from that. And I've only been here since last year.

I'm looking forward to doing HHN Hollywood one more time before doing my comparison! This was an amazing year overall.

Orlando's TWD maze was so awesome, ours was crap in comparison. The sets were huge, the environments were more detailed and interesting, and the scare actors all had so much energy.

Our Dracula maze made me jump way more, but the two scares I recieved in Orlando's during one of my walk throughs was much more intense. The interaction in Orlando's version was awesome though, and the scares were more varied.

Our AVP facade looked way cooler, but Orlando's maze as a whole was WAY scarier. The puppets looked more realistic and less "floaty" than ours, and the predators were very aggresive. Our ending scene was grander with the alien queen, but their ending scared me more. There was a final alien puppet and predator in one room, then we ducked down and walked through a vent with an alien head puppet scaring you. Also, the Predator cloaking effect in Orlando's maze was well done.

I had a fun time walking through our FDTD maze, and I'd say Orlando's isn't much better than ours but it still wins for a few reasons. There was a lot more interaction, with the gecko brothers being in the final bar scene. They were shooting at vampires, there was at least 3 vampires in that room, with Santanico on the stage, and the daughter was scaring with a chainsaw. A lot more was going on in Orlando's version. I also liked that they didn't do two bar rooms like our version.

Although both event clown mazes were very different, I'd say ours was better. Orlando's felt very generic and the costumes and clowns weren't scary at all.

As of now though, I'd say Orlando's even was MUCH better and I'm going to definetely be going every year from now on. Their mazes had a lot more scare actors, scares were varied (some of the scares from above got me really good), and the amount of detail compared to our event is ridiculous.) Hollwyood does win in regards to prosthetics and make up though. This is shark23 btw, I changed my username.

I understand what you meant. Are there any pics/videos of the orlando one? And what part of the Hollywood one was it in? It must have been convincing cause I didn't see it.

Here's our AVP:

Sadly we don't have full walkthroughs this year. And remember you really can't judge anything via video, except our terrible facehuggers.

How about the zones? At least in terms of The Purge and us both having Masquerade based scarezones.

I'd say our Purge zone scareactors have much more intensity when trying to scare. A lot of the actors in Orlando would just walk around and stare at people, with a small handful of them trying to scare me or my girlfriend.

Orlando's zone is MUCH larger though, and they have a lot of props all throughout their New York street.

For the Masquerade zone, I liked ours better. The masks used in Hollywood looked pretty cool and I could see them scaring people if someone was caught off guard. Orlando's had plain masquerade masks with a little blood on them, so they weren't scary at all. The majority of actors were on stilts there. It was very similar to our Skulls Scarezone in terms of there not being many props (2 large candle props with heads in them, and a chandelier.) Which is better than what we get on the lower lot, but it was still bare-bones. Also, most of their actors were either just dancing or walking around.

With the more narrow streets, I'd say that contributes to the more frequent scares here in Hollywood, especially when fog is used. Orlando's scarezones were very cool to look at, and the audio and props used throughout the park made it actually feel like we were a part of whatever was happening. Overall I'd say even though our scarezones are not as large, our scareactors make up for that with much more aggressive scares compared to Orlando.

Hollwyood = Better scares and costumes

Orlando = Better atmosphere and use of audio / more props

Yeah, your Mask-A-Raid looked pretty awesome. Our Maskerade is my least favorite scarezone this year. Yours actually seemed just a BIT lengthier as well. How about the non-shared content (Our originals). Oh, and Face-Off. Though, it's really not a fair comparison.

I'm actually curious to what you thought of Halloween as well in comparison to ours. You haven't touched on that yet! haha

Oh, and as you guys can see in the video for Orlando's AVP, the aliens' jaws move and have the second mouth action. Way more convincing looking. Ours are only cool if you see them in the dark and if you walked by really fast lol

Mostly, my main complaint of Orl's AVP is they made an Aliens maze (based on the second movie) and just threw Predator in there. So I feel like Hollywood lived more up to the task of an AVP maze based more on the AVP movies. But again, that's just what I'm getting from the videos.

I agree. I keep telling my friend this but he doesn't see it.

I'll save all of that good stuff for the actual comparison review! Lol don't want to say too much and compare them until I see Hollywood besides on Employee preview night. It would be an unfair comparison.

I'm not the biggest Alien or Predator fan, I enjoy movies from both franchises but I'm not a die hard. So as a casual fan of both aliens, I'd say Orlando's was scarier and there was more going on in each room. Also, when I wrote my review for Hollywood i said the puppets were really good but after seeing theirs, I'd say ours just look okay.
