foREVer56
2013 was the Walkers at the front for the opening "show" I believe. And I'm almost positive 05 would be Body Collectors and 07 Elm Street.

ForeverEvil1
I recall 2013's scarezone of the year being specifically the Plaza of the Stars/Opening area. I know I saw that somewhere but I can't seem to find it again. I think it was actually on HHNYearbook. ThNdIzNiR
The In-Between won in 2011? It was probably the best 3-d house I've been through, but it was just that, a 3d house. Those houses come a dime a dozen at haunted attractions. I also wasn't a fan of Havoc in 2010. I just remember lots of yelling from scare actors and not being overly impressed with the scenery or makeup (which is a main reason I attend). 2012 forward I more or less agree with. I really like Cabin in the Woods from 2013, but can also see why AWiL won. It was one of their best ever. My favorite scare zone of all time was in 2010 (Saws N' Steam), but 20 Years of Fear was awesome too. I think I liked Grown Evil a little bit more than 7 in 2011, but it's close though. In 2013, I liked how the zones from the walker eating the deer blended into the survivor camp and then onto the farm/barn. That whole stretch was enjoyable in my opinion. I imagine I would have liked the Bayou of Blood more if I got to see the heart rip in 2014, but I wasn't lucky enough to catch it before they took that part out (booooo). Legacy
Bear in mind that guest opinion is only a small part what earns of the Year honors. Criteria included: Total number of guests pushed through Amount of downtime Amount of call-outs (scareactors not coming in when scheduled) Amount of quits Amount of injuries (scareactors and guests) Polling data Management opinion (arguably why ties occur) I've seen houses effectively knocked out of the running because of a two hour shutdown (Hades) or because of a mass exodus of scareactors (Saw). I get what you're saying about all the variables that go into it, just tossing in my 2 cents as a guest. I guess technically there should be 2 separate awards for house of the year... a business type award for a lot of what you mentioned and a guest voted. And the award isn't for the guests to know or even care about. It's only been in the last 8-10 years that guests and the fans even knew about it. It's strictly for the scareactors' motivation (and it works like a charm).

Other than bragging rights, do they get anything as a reward? I think it would be cool to get a prop or something from the house they helped bring to life. They can also be undeservedly knocked out by the actors playing along with guests a la Catacombs. Had that not happened, even without the 2 hour shutdown, Hades still wouldn't have won. Lol (Personally either could've taken the prize for me. Even Orfanage was better than HAVOC)

I didn't want to bring that one up. Tent City was just glad we beat Hades that year.
RockinSight
Hmmm now this gets me curious... were there any other years that were like this? Does this happen almost every year or is this a once in a while thing where potential HOTYs are knocked off?

Only every so often does the backstage drama get so severe a house is pulled. Logistical things impact all the houses, so that doesn't really disqualify anyone. But I will say an outdoor queue house has never won, and they typically have the highest dropout rates.
hunnylvr
It's stuff like this that makes me love this forum even more. I am still aghast that Grown Evil wasn't scarezone of the year in 2011. smh

zombieman
Hmmm... Walking Dead as scarezone of the year in 2013 was pretty much a gimme. I think that one was rigged.
