HHN Hollywood 2014 Speculation

Recommended Posts

Since I've had a few moments to catch up here, and AvP seems to be viewed as semi possible on this side of the forums now...

I would like to revise my original speculation from way back in April.

Beauty is only Skin Deep

The hint that isn't the red herring is:

@HorrorNights: Hint #2: the code name "Beauty is only skin deep" refers to the BUSINESS of Beauty products...

The bonus hint assists in narrowing the Business down:

@HorrorNights: Bonus hint for maze #3 code-named "Beauty is only skin deep" The hint is, "Ding dong..." Can you guess what it is?

The business is Avon. The line is "Ding dong, Avon lady calling"

This line of business is a major plot mover in Edward Scissorhands. Dianne Wiest's character is an Avon lady, and she finds Edward while trying to sell her beauty products.

Winona Ryder is in Edward Scissorhands, and is in Alien: Resurrection.

This is where I initially stopped my speculation on the code name, because I was originally going with Alien/Aliens has the property.

Further research has allowed me to connect this to AvP.

Winona Ryder's character is an android like Bishop from Aliens and Aliens 3.

Lance Henriksen plays Bishop in Aliens and Aliens 3. He also plays Charles Bishop Weyland in AvP.

That's my guess for Beauty is only skin deep.

I wonder how those outdoor London scenes will look in the JP tent... they should've done this in Parisian square. Missed opportunity! Althoguh i understand they want something appealing up there to drive traffic to that area

So we literally have one hint for this codename and it's surrounded by 2 red herrings.

That's what I get for attempting to catch up on 30 to 40 pages of spec in one seating.

Being Cassilda's messenger kept me focused on HHNO.

Although, removing the Bonus hint doesn't negate my spec.

The first things I thought of when Murdy gave Hint #2 was Avon.

While there are many cosmetics/beauty product companies, only two fall into the category of BUSINESS of beauty products for me. Avon and Mary Kay. Avon and Mary Kay consultants are usually viewed as subcontractors or franchise owners. Each consultant owns a business that obtains merchandise from Avon or Mary Kay. It is similar to Pampered Chef and Party Lite and other party based merchandise opportunities.

Take out Ding Dong, and you are still left with the same speculation. The business is Avon which leads to the rest of the steps and connections.

I think the Avon clue is too obvious especially since the gag hint was ding, dong. Seems like Murdy wanted people to come to that conclusion to throw us all off. Either way might as well try and figure out clues with each individual hint.

Hint #3: I came up with The Exorcist

Linda Blair was a FORMER MODEL and STARS in The Exorcist. Another is Trick r Treat. Leslie Bibb was a FORMER MODEL, but I don't know if her role qualifies as STARS in the film.

Hint #2: AVP. Avon Products Inc abbreviation=AVP.

Hint #1: has anyone even come up with something for this one that isn't AVP or Exorcist?

You guys probably saw this but Murdy tweeted a hint about the original maze, saying that as far as the 3 main characters go, it's a domestic (not foreign) family affair, and it's as "American as Apple pie."

Also Murdy heard the npr news report earlier this year, and if you calculate the date of the first comment about the maze (4/21/14), then the npr report had to happen between Januaryearly April. Just wanted to narrow down the clues :-)

You know, I think Dracula Untold won't be the HOH overlay. It's going to get a standalone maze. If it's a good enough IP to get Orlando to do it, we aren't going to get Vlad Tepes hanging out in Frankenstein's lab.

Dracula Untold
AWIL
TWD
AVP
Original
?
HOH

Cabin in the Woods maybe?

Yeah... Trick 'R Treat was my #2 pick.

I have 2 questions...

Are people still stuck on the idea that Soap Commercial is AWIL?

Has anyone come up with a good answer for Teen Spirit?

I think it will go in House of Horrors. Remember, one of the five codenames is going in the HoH. Besides, there is the possibility they could build new sets in there.

I see Cabin in the Woods as a very good possibility in the Mummy venue. For one, they have a good partnership with Lionsgate. Also, every maze the past two years has always had a "woodsy" facade and I assume they would continue with that trend. Besides, they could reuse props from Evil Dead which would save a lot.

Disclaimer to everyone: What I'm saying here is just speculation and nothing more. I have to say this because I have noticed my wishful thinking and own theories have turned into actual rumors.

It was closed for the weekend when I went recently, so that could be a possibility. I still find the other venue theory more plausible, but that isn't impossible.

Speaking of, I wonder if Murdy's buddy Greg Nicotero is helping with the Predator fx? He did design them for Predators.

He also worked on the special effects for (the movie) Hostel. And Scream. And (the likely planned but canned) From Dusk Till Dawn. And Evil Dead 2/Army of Darkness. And Nightmare on Elm Street 5. And Halloween 5. And Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2006. And Jason Goes to Hell.

He even did the animatronic effects for the Transformers movies. He's been involved in a lot of the IPs that HHN has used over the years, and now he's head of the biggest IP in HHN history. That's kinda cool.

Yup, soap commercial's facade has been constructed in the JP queue...and it's fairly close to the slaughtered lamb. AWIL is all but confirmed at this point.

I've seen the picture of the facade. How do you know that one is for Soap Commercial? Was this info given out at some point, or are you just guessing?

Do we even have clues for the 7th house yet?

Vampires are there every year for day time. There's like a parade-show in the streets. Been doing it for about 4 years now.

- Murdy said Soap Commercial was JP.

- AWIL was originally designed for JP 2 years ago.

- The facade appears to be AWIL.

I mean... it can't get anymore obvious lol

My issue is its an old property with very low awareness with today's kids. I honestly probably would have never seen it if I didn't work at a video store 7 years ago and wasn't a huge horror fan. I mean, its cool, but pisses me off when other things don't get a chance for the "low awareness" issue. Honestly, TrT probably has more awareness at the moment. But also, it is a Universal property, so they can do it whenever they please.

I love it when "low awareness" properties get a chance to shine at HHN. There is no problem with having at least one maze that is outside of the kidz* wheelhouse. And, to top it off, some of those attending will view the film before the event, increasing their horror culture.

If we settled on what the youngin's want, we could have an event full of sparkley vampires, whiny werewolves, and teen alien hosts (16 & Pregnant).

Well... Resident Evil or not, the clues don't fit AWIL.

The facade picture I saw was posted recently so I didn't go back in twitter far enough. That façade was the 1st one to go up?

The façade could be The Slaughtered Lamb... or it could be just about any house with a door and 4 windows.
