HHN Hollywood 2014 Speculation

Recommended Posts

They would have some idea though. HHN probably contacts AMC and then AMC inevitably has to contact Skybound since some of the producers are some of the creators of the book. Their approval would be needed.

I'm pretty sure this means the end of the Walking Dead era. Honestly, I thought it was going to go on for longer, but it was fun while it lasted.

Since kirkman is a producer on the show, AMC doesn't need to consult with Skybound at all. AMC (Fox outside the U.S) has distribution rights to the TV property. they might know some details but I don't think they know the whole picture. The biggest "rumor" from the more reputable sources is that it's gone from Orlando's event but will still show up at Hollywood's event to some degree (House or Terror Tram etc.)

Yeah it isn't really a confirmation. It could just be old fashioned corporate confusion. But if it is true, then TWD really went out with a bang last year (loved the maze, sz, and tram) and it is almost certain AHS would come. So. That's cool in theory. Otherwise we get another massive and awesome TWD maze. Which is also cool in theory.

1. When Orlando used it, they made it into the goofy comedy house for the year. CITW, which is a horror comedy, was played straight. Resident Evil was made into a joke. It doesn't seem like Universal really respects the franchise. We know that Orlando can make a great IP house if they want to, but didn't with Resident Evil.
2. After two years of the most successful horror franchise of all time, going with another zombie franchise that doesn't have nearly the fan following that TWD does seems like a bad business move. There's still the "Really, more zombies?" factor without the "season premier during the event's run and being the most popular thing to ever be in horror" factor.
3. Nothing to promote this year, but there is a movie to promote next year. Evil Dead got skipped over for the same reason, and that's a franchise Murdy loves.

It's not impossible, but don't count on it.

EDIT: Looking back on the Orlando threads...

Reports of really short lines and it got some rewards for being "improved" by the later part of the run.

I don't think it was joke per say but like Dr. Jimmy said it was a little too faithful to the source material. So if you weren't a hardcore fan then it was a house you weren't going to enjoy. Same problem Murdy had with Silent Hill in 2012. Based it mostly on Silent Hill: Downpour and only the bigger SH fans picked up on that and enjoyed the maze. Unlike the GP who didn't know what was going on.

Perhaps joke was a bad word, but "campy" or "fun" at least. As Jimmy said it's not meant to be taken seriously. I'm not against that kind of house exactly, but considering how Black Sabbath was chosen because it was more scary (against Murdy's Cooper wishes) it doesn't bode well.

Doesn't kill the chances, but I would put it as an underdog. Then again, so was Resident Evil.

Interesting. Maybe advertising it at HHN would be a bad call if they are going for the family fantasy route. So even if they shoehorn "Hey! Guys! Vampires! Vlad the Impaler!" into the HOH it could damage the Dracula Untold brand in a major market.

Also wait, a family fantasy movie about one of history's most brutal despots? Alright.

A horror/action flick like Underworld would make a bit more sense, but a family fantasy movie? While we're at it, let's make a prequel to Chucky which shows Charles Lee Ray's childhood. It'll be a family comedy! This seems like an extremely odd direction to thake that movie. It's like film nowadays is trying everything possible to make vampires un-horrific. I never thought I'd see the day where being into ponies would be "manlier" than vampires.

Needless to say, I think we can cross untold off of the list. I really don't know what IP-based theme would fit into house of Horrors except Bram Stoker's Dracula. That movie already has a scene in there. Everything else could very easily be rethemed to fit the ambiance (Save for Franky and Chucky).

Yeah it would be bad promotion on both ends. First you have a family fantasy movie being named alongside (insert name of horror IPs used for the event) which would make it not look like a family movie. And then you have a family movie at HHN, which would make casual fans and die hards wonder why a family movie is at the event.

And here I was with my hopes up for bodies on stakes. Sigh...

Well maybe The Purge will give me some of that.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (the one from the 90s with Keanu, Anthony Hopkins, etc) isn't owned by Uni. I believe Sony owns that.

So... I doubt that would be randomly thrown in there.

A modern day twist on Dracula though, I see why not. However, we had years of that with Van Helsing: Fortress Dracula, and also Vampyre.

The other biggie done before is the Wolfman and also Chucky.

To expand on elements in the HOH for an entire maze that hasn't been done there before, the best bet would be Frankenstein, Psycho (which would be horrible) or zombies (which I suppose is possible).

"the maze I'm currently working on is Chris and I's ORIGINAL conceptso not assigning it a code name because it would be impossible to guess"

"What can I tell you about this original maze? Well, it's not based on a myth...or a legend...or an historic event or character..."

"... I can tell you it was inspired by a news report I heard on NPR. One of those crazy little stories that goes unnoticed by mass media..."

"... I can also tell you that I'm going to use a prop that we acquired from a movie in this maze... A rather large prop..."
